A lone figure stood underneath the glow of the streetlamp, a chilled wind whipping her hair around and across her face. She stared at the black beyond the faux warm light of the lamp over head. Her body was tense and her eyes darted wildly as if she were a caged animal frantic for an escape. She took a tentative step towards the opaque shadows, watching as they seemed to shift and move with a life all their own. Reaching a shaking hand out she moved a bit closer and the tip of her fingers were touching the edge of the light.
She held her hand there almost waiting for some sign. Her breath came out in quick puffs of air as the warmth expelling from her mouth was forced into the cool air. Her eyes widened and her breath stopped as a hand reached out of the shadows and clutched her own extended one. Shadows twirled around the fingers down to the palm of its hand and curled around the wrist before blending back into the shadows. Small tendrils of shadows wound its way up the girls arm and pulled her forward. Her breath came out hard and fast as she began to breathe again. Her feel shuffled forward until they touched the edge between the shadows and the fake lighting.
The shadowed hand released her hand and traveled up her arm, caressing it causing her to shiver, before trailing down her side and grab her waist. Another shadowed hand protruded out of the shadows followed by an arm and mimicked the other ones final movement and wrapped itself around the girls waist and pulled her closer to the shadows. She didn’t resist but rather leaned forward into its embrace the chill from the air warming and she moved closer.
Sliding her hands up where the light and dark meet she curled her fingers around something before her hidden inside the dark. Smiling now all traces of fear missing from her face she leaned forward and fell into the shadowed embrace. Arms pulled her even further in; tighter against it’s now solid but hidden body. The final tendrils of shadows twisted around her ankle and foot before she disappeared into her lovers arms within the darkness just outside the faux warm lighting of the streetlamp which now shines on nothing but cold stone.
