Muma flapped her wings hard as she soared through the sky. She could feel Kaiban’s energy near. She gritted her teeth as she thought about Kaiban, and him almost killing Sato. He would pay dearly.
The sun was setting. She was now passing over Kyoto. Below she found a large crater in the middle of the city. She couldn’t believe her eyes as she gazed at it, screams of pain still echoing from below.
“That bastard,” she said. “I’ll put him down, just wait!”

“Delightful!” Kaiban cried as he beamed down at the burning and crumbling buildings below him. “I’ve never had so much fun before! With the way these humans squirm nowadays, taking over Japan will be a breeze!”
“Sir,” Risa interrupted, “I sense a presence approaching. It doesn’t seem like much, but would you like me to handle it?”
Kaiban chuckled. “No, it’s fine. There’s more than one approaching; I’ll deal with them all myself. This will be good practice.”
Kaiban glanced to the side quickly and saw a blade of energy shooting at him. He dodged quickly and looked around, seeing Ryomaru nearing, Hasu having just turned back into his wings.
“Stop, demon,” Ryomaru said. “I’m Ryomaru Takedo, a demon hunter. If you resist, I’ll have no other choice but to use the full extent of my power!”
Kaiban laughed. “So, there are some humans worth fighting. Then bring it, demon hunter!” Kaiban threw a hand forward, sending a wave of energy toward Ryomaru.
Ryomaru shot into the air to dodge the attack. He pulled Hasu from his back. The wings instantly formed into Ryomaru’s sword. He fell fast at Kaiban. The sword sliced into Kaiban’s right shoulder and the two dove to the ground. Risa and Totsa remained where they were, knowing that their boss would be fine.
Ryomaru dodged between buildings as Kaiban chased him, shooting beams of energy from his palm. Kaiban’s right arm dripped with blood, but he paid it no mind. He launched attack after attack at Ryomaru. He didn’t care one bit the destruction he caused to the residential areas around.
Kaiban turned a corner and looked around. He lost track of Ryomaru. He glided down the street, glancing down the intersecting streets in search for Ryomaru. “Come on out, demon hunter,” he said aloud. “Don’t be scared. I just want to kill you!”
Ryomaru sprang from the top of a building suddenly. He stabbed his sword straight through Kaiban’s back. Kaiban twisted fast, throwing Ryomaru backwards. As Ryomaru remained airborne, he sent out two waves of energy from his sword, but Kaiban defended himself from them easily.
“Now die!” Kaiban cried, slashing at the air. Five red blades of energy released from his claws. Ryomaru managed to fend off only two. The other three broke through Ryomaru’s armor. Blood flew through the air as Ryomaru cried out in pain. One blade pierced his shoulder, another gashed his chest, and the final tore his hamstring.
Ryomaru crashed to the ground. Hasu changed instantly from the sword into his wolf form. The wolf darted at Kaiban. He jumped into the air, attempting to latch onto Kaiban. Kaiban waved a hand lightly through the air, stirring up sharp winds that tore at Hasu and took him down hard.
Kaiban held up his right hand, blood dripping from his fingertips. “No mortal is any match for me,” he said. A green ball released from his hand and shot straight for Ryomaru.
Kaiban watched with a large smile as he watched the ball of energy explode, shaking the ground. He waited for the smoke to settle to check on his work. He was surprised when he saw a figure standing amidst the smoke.
Muma removed her wings that guarded her. She lowered her hands to her side and stared at Kaiban. A smile spread on her face. “A mortal may be no match,” she said, “but how about a fellow demon?”
“You have your powers back, I see,” Kaiban said, no hint of worry in his voice. “Do you really think your puny powers stand a chance against me?”
“I stand a better chance than anyone else. So come on, Kaiban,”––Muma narrowed her eyes menacingly––“how about you test out my strength?”
Kaiban held up his left hand, a green ball appearing in it. “If that’s what you wish.”
“It is.”

Pinaka checked her map. She was now riding passenger as Kisuro took the wheel. They were going through Kyoto, finding the roads empty, even the main roads. Pinaka looked at the dot on the map. “It says there are two powers in the vicinity,” she said. “One’s that powerful demon I tracked from Tokyo. The other one I can’t say for sure.”
Kisuro put on the break and set the car in park. Pinaka looked over at him. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Look ahead,” said Kisuro. “The road’s out.”
Pinaka looked out the windshield, seeing the road completely gone. She got out of the car and walked toward the end of the road. Jira followed her. Pinaka gasped at the sight. A crater lay before her, buildings toppled, people laying dead, crushed.
“This is horrible,” Pinaka said.
Kisuro got out of the car and stood beside her. “Did that demon do this?” he asked. “This is unbelievable.”
“If the demon did this, then we’ve got our hands more than full. This isn’t one to mess with.”
“Where do we go from here?” Kisuro asked.
“Can you find your way to the Jibushi shrine in Hikone?”
“I can get to Hikone fine, yeah. Why?”
“Go,” Pinaka said. “Find Sato. I’m going to track down those demons. Get out of here before you get caught into any danger.”
“You sure?” Kisuro asked.
Pinaka nodded. She grabbed Jira around the cat’s body and Jira turned into wings that latched onto Pinaka’s wrist, pulling her into the sky and over the crater.
Kisuro stared after her. “I didn’t see that coming,” he said.

A ball of energy formed in Muma’s hand as she flew down at Kaiban. He held up a hand fast, releasing a flash of energy from his palm. Muma’s attack collided with Kaiban. Flames sparked from the combining attacks, shaking the ground and tearing the surrounding houses.
Muma covered her eyes as she floated through the smoke. Suddenly Kaiban was coming at her and hit her hard between her breasts. She flew backwards into the air. She spread out her wings and flapped them hard, pushing higher into the atmosphere.
Kaiban floated gently into the air, his arms crossed. “You’re no match, Muma,” he said cockily. “You can try as you might, but you will never win.”
Muma had her hand across her chest, trying to catch her breath. “Well, you are tough,” she said, “but I have an advantage over you.”
“And what’s that?” Kaiban asked.
“I’m fighting for love!” Muma cried as she charged at Kaiban.
She swung fast. Kaiban moved swiftly, coming behind Muma, grabbing her arm and wrenching it behind her back. Kaiban placed a hand on Muma’s shoulder, applying pressure to it. Muma squirmed to free herself, but Kaiban’s grip was firm.
“What’s the matter, love failing you?” Kaiban teased.
Muma reached back with her free hand and shot Kaiban square in the face with a pink beam. She pushed away from him quick and shot out more beams. Kaiban threw his cape over his face to protect against the blasts.
“How do you like that?” Muma said.
Kaiban forced a wind of energy from his body, clearing the smoke. He looked up at her, smiling, a drop of blood running from his mouth down his chin. “You’re quite tentative,” he complimented. “It’s a shame you’re in love with a human. Tell me, do you remember what demons that helped humans were called?” Muma froze suddenly. Kaiban moved his lips deliberately as he pronounced the word. “Zokuto.”
Muma bared her fangs. “Die, damn you!” she cried, shooting for Kaiban. “Never repeat that in my presence again!” Her fist smashed hard into Kaiban’s face. She swung back with her other hand, catching him with a great uppercut, sending him up higher.
“You son of a––” She swung again, but Kaiban caught her fist this time.
Kaiban glared at her with glee. “It hurts, doesn’t it?” he said. “The name just churns your insides, huh? Zokuto.”
“I said shut it!” Muma cried.
She raised her other hand, grasping Kaiban’s skull as tight as she could. Her hand lit up pink and exploded, forcing Kaiban to release her and allowing her to take her distance. She stopped for an instance as she regenerated her hand back to its perfect condition, and then darted down at Kaiban.
Muma raised a flat hand and slapped Kaiban. He caught himself in the air and floated away from Muma. His face was red where Muma slapped him.
“Never,” said Muma, rage filling in her, “ever, say that name again.”
Kaiban smiled. “I’m glad to know that name still has the same effect. Now, I’m late for taking over Edo. I think I’ll finish it here. It’s been a blast.”
Kaiban raised a hand. Muma made no hesitation in dodging the first attack, but she was unable to dodge the second. She let out a shriek of pain as she circled to the ground, her skin smoldering, the membrane of her wings broken.
Pinaka fluttered out of the sky, reaching for Muma and catching her gently in her arms. Pinaka floated to the ground, sitting Muma down but keeping her upright in her arms. Jira released from Pinaka’s wrist and rushed away down the street to another figure lying nearby.
Pinaka looked into the sky, seeing Kaiban for a brief instant before he disappeared from sight. Pinaka looked back at Muma. She seemed lifeless, her tender body ripped and maimed. Pinaka glanced around then to find Jira, seeing her at the side of Ryomaru and Hasu.
“What in the world happened here?” she said, astonished to see the greatest demon hunter down and out.
Pinaka pulled her cloak from her body and covered Muma’s nudity with it. She laid Muma down gently and walked over to Ryomaru, kneeling next to him to examine the body. “He’s alive,” she said, relieved, “but just barely. I better get them somewhere safe to rest, and fast. Jira.” She looked to her companion. Jira meowed obediently and transformed.
