My Story

 

No man… or woman for that matter has ever told a story quite like mine. I've been through… things… that most people my age… just dream about. How many seventeen year olds can say that they've met a dragon, been in more than one war, or even fought with sky pirates by their side? …How many seventeen year olds have to hide their true life from most of their family and friends…? I've been able to keep most of my life secret from my friends in this world… But then, one year, I happened to stay here longer than expected… All because of him… Damn his eyes…

 

He keeps saying… I can tell him anything… That he'll always be my friend, no matter my past. I always responded with the classic line, `It's complicated.' However, lately… I'm regretting it. It's not the past that I've been worried about lately… It's the future. I don't know what I'd do if I lost him…

 

Lately he's been pushing me away more than normal. With school started again he's been hanging out with all his jock friends… Rika and I rarely get to see him outside of class anymore…

 

“Setasha, it's been three days since you've talked to him… Is something wrong?” Rika stared at me across the lunch table, “You just seem… worried about something…”

 

I found myself staring at Shade across the lunchroom. I sighed and looked at Rika, “Rika… It's… Complica-“

 

“Setasha you say that about everything! Can't you just tell me what's going on?! I'm your friend, okay? You can talk to me.”

 

I found myself grin slightly at the comment, “That's what he said too… both of them…” I felt myself frown again… I never told anyone from this world about Zax, “But when I told him… He pushed me away at first…”

 

Rika blinked and stared at me like I'd gone insane, “Wait, rewind. You just completely confused me. You told Shade what's going on and he pushed you away? That doesn't sound lik-“

 

“No Rika. You know just as much as Shade does about me.”

 

“Which is close to freaking nothing! If you weren't talking about Shade… Then whom were you talking about?”

 

I paused and looked away, “An… old friend… That passed away before I moved here…”

 

Rika frowned, “Setasha… I'm s-“

”Don't apologize.” My hair fell in front of my eyes as I stood up and picked up my tray, “Don't you dare… It wasn't your fault.”

 

Rika stood up with her tray and walked over to the garbage with me, “Setasha… How did th-“

 

“I don't like talking about my past Rika.” I glared at my roommate without realizing it as I put my tray down, “This conversation is over. Never bring it back up.”

 

Rika frowned and set her tray down, “Setasha… I know you don't want to hear it from me… But you can't change the past. Talking about it might actually lift some of the weight off your shoulders…”

I sighed and rolled my eyes, “Damn Rika, you sound just like my stepfather.”

 

Suddenly Shade walked up behind me and placed a hand on my shoulder, “Stepfather? I thought you grew up at the orphanage…”

I blinked and turned to face him, “I did… My stepfather died too… Now would you two please leave my past alone?!” I twitched slightly and started to walk away.

 

Shade rubbed the back of his head and sighed looking down, “First time I talk to her in three days and she bites my head off.”

 

Rika blinked looking at Shade, “Well… she said please…”

 

Shade sweatdropped, “Rika…”

 

“What? You really think I'm going to leave her alone because she said please? Yeah right! She's our friend! We tell her everything, she should do the same!”

 

Shade frowned, “You tell her everything? There are some things I keep from her…” His eyes followed me as I walked out of the room, “But with good reason…”

Rika grinned, “Shade, you like her don't you?”

 

Shade looked at Rika really surprised and blushing slightly, “W-….What? Rika… I…”

“You hesitated… Awww, Shade, you're in love!” Rika's grin became bigger and she raised her hands above her head and spun in a circle.

 

Shade blushed more, “Rika!” He covered her mouth with his hand, “Don't tell the world damnit!” He let go and tried to hide his blush, which wasn't working out that well.

 

Rika laughed, “Who cares who knows. Wait, Shade is that what you're hiding from Setasha? That you like her?”

 

Shade rubbed the back of his head and nodded slightly as the bell rang. He sighed, “Great, now we have to go to class.”

Rika smiled, “That's okay! We've got class with Setasha! You can tell her how you feel and maybe she'll tell us about her past!” Rika grabbed the blushing jocks arm and dragged him to the classroom.
