Weakness
Lilly awoke the next morning tired and drained from lack of sleep. Her dreams and thoughts plagued by “Darky” as she was now calling him. Sure he had broken into her house and stared at her threw the window, but he hadn't tried to hurt her. That might make him a good person right?
She contemplated this as she got dressed and headed off to work. She was the receptionist for a local contractor's office. Pretty much she answered phones, greeted people when they came in and read romance novels when it was slow. Over all it was a great gig.
She couldn't concentrate on Derick's embrace to Rosolin when “Darky” was so much better looking then what Derick could ever be. She put her bookmark back in place, staring at the phone wishing it would ring.
Anything for a good distraction.
Her wish wasn't granted and the day dragged on slower then usual. She thanked her stars when the clock struck 5 signaling she could leave. She grabbed her purse and headed for the door practically running to her car. She pulled into her driveway and unlocked the door to her house stepping inside. She never noticed the pair of golden eyes following her every move from the bushes.
Eric cursed at himself for being so stupid. It was stupid to be out this early. True the darkness came early in the cooler months but the sun wasn't even completely set yet. It was still very hot to his skin and he had to stay in the shade. It was stupid to be coming back to this woman's house after she saw him and lived. The last thing he needed was to be exposed as what he was. But being stupid didn't out weigh the need to see her again. If he had never ran by the night before he wouldn't be in this mess. But he did.
He always enjoyed running in the cool night air, especially when he was hunting. As he ran past a, now familiar, one story small home he could not ignore the delectable scent wafting out from within. Wanting to take a taste of whatever or whomever was the source. He entered the home with ease and stood by the door sniffing the air trying to pin down exactly which room the smell was coming from. Lucky for him the “scent” came to him.
As he looked down on her after she fainted so dramatically he knew he could never drain the life from her.
He just didn't know why!
Even after barley making it out before the other human spotted him, he went around back and watched her sleep. When she turned and fixed her gaze on him he wished she would scream. He knew that if she screamed he could will himself to never come back.
She didn't scream. She didn't even blink. Only curiosity was etched on her face.
He mentally shook himself. This was now, and he was in the open before full dark, tailing some human around. A sneer played on his lips as he thought about how weak he had become. It was disgusting and yet he walked over to the little window and looked in.
Lilly walked into the house letting a small sigh escape her lips. She put her keys down on the side table by the door and took off her shoes. Even though it had been a slow day, she was exhausted. She flopped on the couch letting the soft fabric envelop her. Soon she was asleep dreaming lustfully about the man who was slowly opening her front door.
