Purgatory- Chapter Four- Mirror of Reminiscence

~~Oakdale North Carolina Rai's P.O.V. ~~

“Rai, I know that you are a guest in this house, but you are also to be treated as a member of this family. Please do us all a favor and do some form of work in this house. The only reason you are even in my home is to prove that it is possible for other species to intermingle with humans without too much conflict.”

Mina was a pest. She didn't really care about the merger between the Hunters, Beings, and Guardians. Mina only cared about the fact that she got an ass-load of money for keeping me in her house.

“We aren't different species, you moronic human. Shut your mouth, unless you have a comment that would match my level of intelligence.” I knew that comment would throw her train of thought off balance. I wanted to get out of that house.

It wasn't that I hated humans—it was just my hate for those who hated me. “I don't need to accomplish any of the tasks that you have ordered me to do. I rank much higher than you think, you moron.”

I knew that I sounded like an egoistical bastard. I wanted her to think I was. I'm usually not as bad as Calyx when it comes to a harsh personality. Calyx was known for the “High and Mighty” personality.

Yes, I do know about Calyx, and the fact that she is alive. I'm a fourth priority mirror. I remember everything that went on in my life, even while in my mother's womb. I can also remember little details about my future. I had a little more control over power than Calyx did at birth. Since I had a little more control, I could hide the tremendous amount of power I withheld. Calyx is still a lot stronger than I.

“I'm leaving. I refuse to deal with your insolence. I might come back later.” I needed to find a few informants. I remember that Calyx had kept Rei alive whilst we were still in our mother's womb.

Rei doesn't know about our sister. I highly doubt she even remembers me. I remember her though. Rei is a little stuck up bitch who doesn't understand the words “Thank you.” The only thing she understood was “Do everything you're told and you'll be spoiled with the riches of the world.” She was starting to turn into one of those droids. This war was getting out of hand. I desperately needed to find Calyx.

~~Calyx's House Calyx's P.O.V. ~~

I needed myself to look adequate. I never usually met other Beings, or Hunters, unless it was to kill them. I needed to give this girl a good first impression so I wouldn't scare her to death. I decided to wear my other uniform that was not meant for fighting in.

I showered quickly and went into my room to get dressed. I usually never wore that uniform. I hated it because I didn't like to wear bright things. They made me look cheery.

It was a white corset with black lining with only one shoulder strap that hung from the side of my arm. The other shoulder held a sign of my ranking. It was a long thick silver chain with a complicated pattern. The more complicated the design, the higher the ranking of the soldier. I selected white dress pants and white stiletto heals to complete the attire.

Renata and her sister were due to arrive soon. I was quite ticked over the new occurrence. The stupid little girl didn't comprehend the fact that her baby wasn't going to be the only target. The fact that she was pregnant meant that she would become an automatic traitor to the beings. Not only that, she would be put on the first priority wanted list.

I had to give her some credit, however. As much as I hated small assignments, I could use her as an alibi to hide for a year or so. That way she could hide her baby from the rest of the war.

When I went to go look at myself in my bathroom mirror I noticed that my hair decided to grow back to its old length. My hair was usually cut up to my neck, or shorter. Every time I used my powers so many times it would grow to the middle of my back. I also noticed that my hair was back to its old color as well.

When I was born my hair was black showing that I had no mastery over my abilities. Now, my hair was white showing that I knew every thing I needed to know about my own powers.

I didn't have enough time to dye my hair again and I didn't feel like using my powers to change it again, so I just brushed it.

When I was about to go downstairs, I heard my doorbell ring. Halfway downstairs I could see Renata and Lucas. This was my first time meeting Fatin. I always heard about her little problems, but this is the first time I actually dealt with it personally. From afar, she looked human, but the moment you got a clear look at her eyes and the tips of her hair, it was obvious that she was a witch. She had reddish orange eyes, with light golden brown hair with white tips. `Cute.' I opened the door and let them in without saying a word.

I closed all curtains and locked all doors. “So I finally meet you Fatin. My name is Lieutenant Calyx Knite.” She stood stiffly and refused to look at me directly. “You don't need to be afraid of me, unless you decide to betray us.”

Lucas was eyeing me from the corner of his eye. I could feel his eyes boring deep into my flesh. Without looking at him I merely spoke “Lucas, move your eyes elsewhere, or you will have personal training with me on Monday.”
He smirked, and that annoyed me. “I wouldn't mind having some `personal training' with you Lieutenant.” I gave him a cheap death glare.

“Sorry, I'm not into bestiality.” He didn't say anything. That at least got him off my back for a while.

“Fatin, you will be living with me throughout the time of your pregnancy. As for the reason why I may not be your midwife is because I am pregnant myself.”

That definitely caught Renata's attention. “Wouldn't that mean that you're having a second generation?” I hated being asked questions, especially one asked with no thought put into it beforehand.

“No shit. I'd rather you keep this quiet because, only God knows what they'll do to my child should they find out. We will be attending the same school for a while. You are allowed to have friends, but never invite them home or give them your phone number. You will dye your hair, and I will change your hair color. You will go by the name Martina Knite and will be posing as my elder sister. I will be going by the name Marciela Knite. I will be a ninth grader and you will be an eleventh grader. I will be working at an ice rink for a portion of the time, and when you begin showing we will leave to another location which hasn't been decided, yet. Is all of this understood?” She nodded meekly.

I know I was going very fast, I also know I was being a bit of a bitch, but she needs to understand the consequences of her actions. It felt weird telling her what to do. She was older than me by a little less than a year.

She was scared of me. Anyone with eyes noticed it. “Fatin, look at me. I need you to stop being afraid of me, okay? We will see Renata and Lucas as much as you want.” She calmed down a bit.

“Lucas I now speak to you—not as your Lieutenant but as the wife of your best friend.” He and Leandro were good friends. “I'm going to kick your ass, you little mother fucking idiot! Not only that but I'm going to castrate you if you do anything of this sort again! Is that understood?” He was pinned to the wall.

“You have a fifteen minute head-start. Go.”

~~Sunset Road. Rai's P.O.V. ~~

I knew that there was a Lucifer informant nearby. I saw a little about my future and saw that he was a worker at the new Wal-Mart. He should be getting off work in a few minutes. I spotted him walking out and ran up to him. “¿Dónde puedo encontrar a Calyx?” He gave me an odd stare.

“Yo soy su hermano, Rai. Tiene que hacer con la guerra de los Guardianes.” I think he understood my meaning. “My friend said that the hot chick that you saw at the club last week lives around Old Plank road and Oakdale Road.” I gave him a quick thanks and got in my car and left.

She was here the whole time. She lived down the block from me and I didn't even notice.

I wondered what she looked like by now. Last time I saw her was when I was still in my mother. I had heard a few things about a “Calyx” person here and there and that this person was fighting back. I noticed two people walk out of a house. I could tell at least one was a Lucifer. That was probably were she was.

~~Inside Calyx's House. General P.O.V. ~~

“Fatin, you'll be sleeping in this room. If this house is attacked while you are in it, you are to hide in the closet. In the closet you will pull out the carpet and open a small door inside. There you will follow the path and make it to safety, understood?” Fatin had learned that she was to stay with Calyx because she was the safest person around.

The doorbell rung and Calyx had told her to stay upstairs. Calyx had noticed a young man around her age outside the door. She opened the door and he said her name. Out of instinct she pulled out her gun and aimed it at his face.

“Whoa, hold on there, it's me Calyx. It's been a few years since each other so you may not remember me.” She was a little weaker than him as a mirror. She quickly overlooked her life and did not see him anywhere in it. “Liar,” was all she said.

“My name is Rai De la Luna.” She gave him a confused look. “Why would you of all people come to see me?” He knew it would take him a while to fully gain her trust.

“I'm sick of being forced to one side. I ran away from my host family. I'm in that program that's trying to merge everybody together. By the time they notice me missing my scent trail would be completely gone.” She quickly leafed through his memories and found no reason not to let him in.

“Fine, but you better make this quick. I have guests right now, however, if anything leaks out about where I am, consider being castrated and being put in a meat grinder.” He knew that she wasn't going to tell him anything crucial.

“I wanted to get away from our dad.” She gave him a glare. “Don't ever call him my father.” He understood what she had gone through.

`What she didn't know was how much he had suffered for murdering his own child in cold blood. He didn't do it on purpose. He was forced to murder you. You didn't notice how many people were around. He was followed that day to make sure you died. There was no way around it.'

He heard footsteps from upstairs and then he heard a door open. “Mrs. Knite, is everything okay down there?” He lost his track of thought when he heard the person ask for a `Mrs. Knite.'

“Mrs. Knite?” She didn't answer my question.

“Its okay, Fatin, come downstairs. A friend of mine is here.” He noticed a short little girl that looked a bit older than him.

“Rai meet Fatin, Fatin meet Rai. Rai is my younger brother and Fatin is pregnant with either a Lucifer baby, or a witch baby.”

That confused Fatin. “Wait, how would there be a chance that I may have a witch baby? I haven't done anything else with anyone.” It looked like the more she thought about it the more it confused her. It was a pretty funny sight in actuality.

“Since you are a witch, you automatically give your child the witch gene. Since Lucas is a Lucifer, he could have given the child either a witch gene—making the child a witch, or a demon gene, which would make the child a 1st generation Lucifer or an unbalanced 2nd generation witch. The only reason the child would be considered 1st or an unbalanced 2nd generation is because you are not a Lucifer.

For the child to be a 2nd generation you'd both have to be Lucifers.” Fatin was still processing the information, but she still understood her point.

“Does that mean that your baby can be a witch, demon, or Lucifer?” That got Calyx an odd look from Rai. “Yes, it does, but I know for a fact that I will have a Lucifer. I am a mirror, and I saw that I will have a little Lucifer. A girl if you must know.”

Rai was sick of being left in the dark so he just asked, “Are you pregnant too?”

`Great,' thought Calyx, `another few hours of explanations.'

“Yes I am. My husband died a week or so ago. I just recently found out that I was pregnant with his child. That's why I am no longer considered a De La Luna.” He had noticed that she was called Mrs. Knite.

He began to wonder if her husband had a relation to Mateo Knite. Almost as if she had read his mind, she spoke. “My husband Leandro Knite was Mateo Knite's son.”

He was surprised. He never knew that Mateo had a lover, let alone a witch lover. He said nothing. He sympathized with her. He knew anything else said would have just made the situation grimmer.

“You will be sleeping in my other guest room tonight. I need to call my informant about a Lucifer, who doesn't know he's a Lucifer. He's going to my school. By the way, Rai, do you know a student by the name of Blaise?”

“Dammnit, she disappeared again.” I knew that girl wouldn't stay still. She probably went back to her house.

She had a difficult scent to track. Every time she changed her appearance she changed her scent. I hope I can track her. I noticed a letter by my bed. It had very fancy handwriting. I knew that it was Calyx's. She was the only person who signed anything as `Luna' in my house.

Good thing she left me a phone number, because I needed to give her the location of his home in the Appalachian Mountains. `I'm going to call her in the morning.'

I knew she would bury herself in her work, because that's the odd way she let out her depression.

I needed to give her some medication. A pregnancy with a baby Lucifer could potentially kill the mother. A Lucifer needed more nutrients and blood throughout a pregnancy. They could literally leech all the energy out of the mother until she died if she didn't get it.

That's what happened to my wife. Calyx would also need someone with her on the day she gives birth to keep her alive, because chances were that the baby would have her claws and the child could tear her to shreds internally.

If a woman pregnant with a Lucifer didn't die during her pregnancy, she would most likely die trying to give birth.

I hoped Calyx was okay. She was really out of it; then again she's always been out of it. That was just Calyx's personality in public. Not many people knew Calyx's real personality. She is a very spiritual person who believed in her work and God.

People thought that she never cared for those she killed but in reality she prayed for each one individually every night. She usually would go up to her room about an hour before she goes to sleep and just prays. She started the praying bit when she was living with him.

~~Nine Years ago. P.S. 108 Elementary School Gymnasium~~

“Little girl, come here and I will promise to be nice to you. If you don't do as I say a lot of people are gonna hit you. Do you trust me?” Calyx always knew better. She wasn't as naïve as the surrounding five year olds.

“Know this old fart, I'm not stupid. Get out of my way before I make sure that your corpse is found in cinders.” The fool didn't know that Calyx was stronger than the Lucifers he had met. He had blindly charged at Calyx with a rifle carrying bullets that were meant specifically for killing Lucifers. She did a flip to avoid him and landed square on his shoulders.

“Like I said before, human, get the fuck out of my way before I kill you!” She revealed her clawed hands. He was frozen in place. Being a grown man with grown pride, he wasn't about to die because a five year old little girl. He fell backwards in an attempt to throw her off of him. She jumped making him fall to the ground. When she landed, she landed hands first on his chest. Unfortunately for him she still had sharp claws on the tips of her fingers.

She watched him bleed to death. She acted as if she didn't care. She was having an internal battle as to save him or not. Either way, before she could decide, he was dead. His body was cold in his pool of blood.

She ran. She ran back to Mateo. She was an odd child because she always carried a bible with her. She went to her old room. She sat there praying the whole night. That was the first time she had killed a person.

~~End flashback~~

After that day she was a little colder. She would never smile ever after that day. When she was a baby it took them a long time to get her to give them a first smile. Those efforts became vain that day. I remembered the next day when he left her to fend for herself again. I had to deal with the traumatized children that watched the whole thing.

A week after she left, I had pleaded her to take care of my son, Leandro. At first she refused, but after an hour of persuasion she finally agreed. The first time they met was quite funny. She was in another guardian fight at P.S. 95.

In the end she had one the battle. She was supposed to be waiting for him there, but he had gotten caught. After the fight, Leandro asked her a battery of questions. She just told him to shut up. Being a six year old boy, and thinking you're the strongest thing in the world, he argued back.

She just ended up punching him in the stomach, knocking him out. I hadn't seen my son since, but I did keep in contact with Calyx.
