Purgatory- Chapter Nine- Key to My Past Part II

~~Calyx's House, Friday, Three hours prior to Blaise's Arrival Calyx, P.O.V.~~

I was dyeing my hair again. It changed colors when I lost my patience and blew up Fatin's alarm clock. I decided it would be best that I be brunette because Fatin's hair was brown and Rai was forced to dye it brown.

I had to dress as normally as possible. I was posing as a thirty-seven year old woman. I went against wearing my eyeliner because it would look peculiar for a house mom. I tied my hair back in a simple ponytail and put on some jeans and a t-shirt. When I looked in the mirror I realized that I still looked around twenty. I needed to add on an extra seventeen years to my appearance.

I grabbed my make up and grabbed some brown eyeliner. I made a few lines under my eyes and then smudged it making it look like I had bags and aging lines under my eyes. I switched the t-shirt for a button-up white blouse. I went for some simple heel-less black shoes. I looked in the mirror and saw that I looked around thirty-five or so. It would have to do.

I went downstairs and saw Lucas. “Why are you still here?”

I saw him with a bag at hand. “I caught up with Chris this afternoon and she gave me this to give to you, so I took the rest of the afternoon off to get it where it belongs.”

I grabbed the bag and took it to my room. I sat on the bed and pulled out what was in it. After I saw what it was I quickly put it back in the bag and threw the bag in the closet. I went downstairs and saw that Lucas was still lounging around.

“Get out.” It was simple and to the point. I pushed him into the garage.

“Why don't you train for a while because Blaise is coming in a little while and you're not supposed to be home.” I shut the door and went to the kitchen and grabbed my medicine. I muttered out,

“Two hours left to go.”

~~On the Bus, Blaise's P.O.V. ~~

I was sitting with Rey and we were just talking about random subjects. He paused mid-sentence to check his cell phone.

“What is it?”

I couldn't help but be curious.

“Is it your girlfriend or something?” He laughed a bit.

“Nah, it was just my mother sending a text reminding me that I have a fitting tomorrow.” When he said that comment I had to pause for a minute.

Didn't I think that same thing the other night? I brushed off the awkward feeling, thinking that it was just a coincidence. We reached his stop and walked to his house from there. When we entered I noticed that someone was cooking in the kitchen.

“You have a nice house.” It really was nice. The living room walls were a shade lighter than brick red and the carpet was a dark burgundy. They also had a large low-rise cherry wood coffee table. The dining room was in a similar style.

“Welcome. You must be Blaise I've heard so much about you. I'm Gabrielle; you can call me Gabby or mom. Are you all hungry?” We all gave our unanimous vote of yes before she pulled out a bunch of snacks from the fridge.

She seemed nice. “Martina, please help me out in the kitchen, honey.”

I kept thinking how Martina and Ms. Gabrielle looked nothing alike. I blew the thought away, my main concern was Rey.

“Umm, where will we work on the project?” I kept as silent as possible. I thought that it would be rude to be ridiculously loud. “You can all work in the living room.” I knew my voice wasn't that loud. She must have some excellent hearing.

Rey and I worked on our project for a while in the living room. I could hear their mom in the kitchen. I felt like I was being watched. When their mom looked at me I felt like she was reading me like a book. I brushed off the feeling but I still felt out of place. We finished the project quickly. As much as I wanted to stay around Rey, I needed to get away from the house. I had an awkward feeling about it.

~~After Blaise Leaves, Calyx's P.O.V.~~

I went to the garage and opened it letting Lucas out. “Thanks for leaving me in the dark. You forgot to turn on the light in there.” I walked back towards the kitchen whilst Lucas whined. I casually muttered an “Oops,” and ordered him to finish cooking.

“Rai, Fatin get over here. We all sat down around the table and began to converse about what we all read from his mind. Fatin was the first to speak up, “He likes Rey and has no clue what's going on.” I shook my head.

“Wrong, I looked up his real parents and concluded that his only real attack in synchronization—the ability to imitate other attacks. It's a weak attack, but the kind of attack it is makes it all the more, dangerous. Apparently when Rai read his mind on the bus, he read Rai's mind.” My brother tried to defend his pride, “There is no way he read my mind! Not even mother could get into it!”

I held my head in my hand while shaking it. “That's why he's considered illegal. He can repeat the attack with the same magnitude as the original user. In other words Rey and Martina are both going to be absent for that school meeting next week, there would be too much of a risk, I can't protect a pregnant woman while hiding a former cadet to the Hunters. Lucas is coming with me as backup.”

My word was law and no one dared defy it as we sat in silence whilst we waited for Lucas to finish cooking dinner. We later then ate in silence and went to our rooms to sleep. Fatin changed into some simple night shorts and a tank top. I put on some men's pajamas and lied down, soon after, Fatin followed the suite. I held Fatin close, just enjoying the feel of her presence.

I thought back to what Lucas gave me. I needed to end what Maria thought we had left because I had too much on my plate as it was. I left my thoughts to fly in my mind and fell into a dreamless sleep.

~~The Next Day, Calyx P.O.V.~~

I woke up around seven in the morning feeling okay for once. I went downstairs into the garage where we had training equipment. I decided against it and went over to the empty matted area. I did a few stretches and began dancing. I rarely did it but I felt like my muscles were beginning to atrophy due to the lack of training and lack of guardian fights. I felt like I was losing my flexibility and grace.

I did a few pirouettes and pencil turns before gliding into a split. From the split I lifted myself into a handstand before flipping onto my feet. Since the garage was part of the house I could hear someone waking up and shuffling around their room. I left the garage only to see half-asleep Lucas, tripping his way down the stairs.

“Lucas, get some coffee and wake up. I'm leaving in a little bit. I have something to do. If Fatin asks, tell her I'm dropping off some files. I'll be back in a few hours.” I heard him mutter an “okay” and left it at that.

I went upstairs where a sleeping Fatin still lied and got dressed. I changed my hair color again, this time to a copper red. I was wearing a black wrap up tube top and some Tripp red stitch big pyramid stud chain pants. I also had on a black chocker and my wedding ring on a silver chain.

I went downstairs were there was a livelier Lucas drinking coffee. He stared at me for a while. I didn't care; I stole his coffee and grabbed my keys. I drank down his coffee in one gulp. I left without another word.

~~Back in the House, Lucas's P.O.V. ~~

I was still sitting in a stupor as I heard Calyx leave. She looked hot. I didn't know what came over me when I saw her. I admit, I always had some form of a hidden attraction for her. I stayed on the sidelines for two reasons, 1) She's still mad at me over the whole Fatin thing, and 2) I was her husband's best friend.

I was a bit jealous when I found out about her and Fatin getting together. It wasn't my place to interrupt her though. Her husband died out of the blue and I knew that she wasn't completely over it. I knew about the affair that she and Maria had had and I knew that Maria was still pestering her about the whole situation.

I heard Rai waking up—scratch that: more like falling on the floor because he tripped over his laundry. I got myself another cup of coffee and went on my merry way.

~~At Angel's House, Angel's P.O.V. ~~

That letter I received about a month ago was still on my mind. I found it odd that my son went missing that very day. I was worried for my son; who wouldn't be? I knew that he could hold his own anyway. I had my suspicions on who it was but it was only suspicion.

I was sitting in my home office and one of my maids came in. “Yes, Andra?” She was a new maid and probably didn't know that no one was allowed in his office.

“Sir, there is a guest outside looking for you.” She new better than to disturb him over something so simple; a guest was a second priority.

“You really may want to attend to her.” I could tell she was scared. What was this guest doing to scare the maids?

I went outside only to find a girl, no older than Rai, killing my guards. She apparently didn't care if she was creating a scene.

“Indoors, old man. I want to make this meeting as short as possible.” I wasn't going to argue and I certainly didn't feel like fighting, so I walked back inside and into my office. She followed suite.

“Before we start may I ask, why were you killing my guards?” She sat down in my guest chair.

“Simple, I don't need to be tracked.” I nodded. I knew she had no intention to kill me yet or she would have done so already. She looked a lot like Cairo and Rei but she seemed more hostile,to say the least. Her scent seemed familiar but I couldn't pinpoint from where either.

Go back to Raidon's high school on Wednesday.” Her scent was all over the auditorium that day. She must've been the one that killed Jido.

“Why'd you kill him?” I wasn't going to run into battle. I could see that there was a thin line of patience with her.

“Why'd you kill my husband?” I had killed many Lucifers in my time.

“He probably broke the law.” I saw that, that only made her angrier.

“Broke the law by being alive: by trying to allow another person to live?”

I saw the wood in the guest chair splinter. “Please refrain from destroying my pro-“ I never got to finish saying my sentence because she pinned me to the wall.

“Do you know who I am?” I didn't answer. “Let me teach you some new vocabulary. Calyx spelled C-a-l-y-x. Does sepals of a flower ring a bell? My last name means `Of the moon.' Am I ringing any bells yet, old man?”

I didn't believe her. “Sorry, but my daughter is dead.” I could hear her growling.

“Yeah, I did die when you shot me. Thank Mateo for taking me in and while your at it why don't you apologize for killing his son.” I looked at her with disbelief.

“Mateo has no Lucifer children” She was bearing sharp fangs.

“Not anymore, thanks to you. Know this old man: My hate lies in those who hold prejudices against their own.” She slammed me into the wall for good measure and left me in my office with at least a mild concussion.

~~Calyx's P.O.V. ~~

I was pissed, but at least I knew that I had left my mark. I ran building to building where I reached the outskirts of the city. I have to remember to thank Chris for sending me the information as to where Angel was.

“Ugh,” I hated the old man's name. It made him sound as if he was a good person. He was a jackass in a Hero suit. I know that Mateo was on less than perfect terms with Angel but he has the right to know who killed his son but it wasn't my place to do so.

The car was hidden away in a field next to Interstate 277. I began driving around thinking that it would be best if I cooled off before I went inside the house. I parked the car in the driveway and went to the backyard to do some thinking. I sat by the same tree where I passed out a while back.

The idea that I had to fight again in a few days made me feel guilty. Fatin really had nothing to do with this assignment to begin with, but as the time passed she became more involved. Now she was—by law—a traitor, whether or not they know she's pregnant. I don't believe that Fatin realizes that her father, most likely doesn't want to hear a syllable of her name.

While at Angel's house I saw some documents quoting her father saying that he had disowned her and no longer had any connections relating to her except “the pure blood, flowing through her retched Lucifer-tainted veins.”

The house was quiet when I got inside the house. I preferred it that way because that meant I didn't need to spend my time and vocal cords telling everyone to shut up.

I sat by the computer and decided to go through the internet history to retrieve old documents and files on certain demons who I knew were going to show up at the fight to kidnap Blaise.

I noticed that Leandro's file—as well as my own—were previously viewed. I checked the date of the last visit and, to my surprise saw that it was the same night that Maria was here.

Maria couldn't have been the last person to check it in my house. She didn't need to look up my file. She knew it by heart: she made the file. It was probably Rai. If it was Rai, I still had my mind junked up on Maria. I had avoided her as much as possible since that night—and succeeded in not seeing her—but I had to meet up with her regardless because I needed the beginning of the fight to be staged.

There was a letter on the refrigerator saying that Rai and Fatin went grocery shopping and that Lucas was working overtime. If I was to speak with Maria this would be the best time, so I picked up the phone and dialed the number.
