Doll Parts
There's been another body found tied to a chained fence. Her name
was Jazmin Smalls. Age twenty and dressed in a dark blue cocktail
dress. It was like the first victim. Vince shook his head.
“Damn it,” he said. Jazmin had been crucified with a gunshot to the
chest. The inspector sighed.
“Is there a tape?” he asked.
“Yes,” one of the CSIs said.
“Has it been processed?”
“Yes.”
Vince took a breath. “Hit play.”
“Yes sir.”
Vince could predict what was coming next. Sure enough, he wasn't
disappointed.
“My name is Jazmin Smalls and I am going to kill myself. I want to
say sorry to my sister and that I love her so very much! I never
meant to hurt anyone!”
-Gunshot-
Vince hit stop. Yep. There it was. Two victims killed the same way.
He should've expected this. Will there be more?

Haley stood in front of the mirror, nervous. It had been a while
since she had been on a date. She especially hadn't been on one
with another woman. It kind of happened.
She wasn't looking for June. June found her.
“Hey…” Haley said in a French caf. June eyed her, bemused.
“Hello, dear,” she said. Haley pressed her lips together. What was
she doing? This wasn't her at all. But here she was.
“Uh…” Haley said. Her face felt hot. June pushed a chair toward
her.
“Sit,” she said. Haley's back stiffened.
“Yes!” she squeaked. The teacher quickly sat down. June gave her a
little smile.
“Can I get you anything?” she asked. Haley quickly shook her
head.
“No!” she yelped. Her heart pounded against her chest. June took
her by the hand. The other woman went still. June chuckled.
“Relax, darling,” she said. Her voice. How can such a sound be so
beautiful and relaxing? Haley gulped.
“Tell you what,” June said. “Come out to Lady Blue with me
tonight.” That wasn't a question.
So now here was Hayley, getting all dolled up for another woman for
a date. A date? Hayley slapped herself in the cheeks.
“Come on! Keep it together. You are just meeting up for a drink.
Don't freak out.” The nave woman took another breath. Suddenly,
the doorbell rang. Hayley stiffened up.
Her friend was here.
Hayley cleared her throat. “Right. Act natural. You'll be fine.
You'll be fine.” The teacher sat up and walked out of the room.

Vince looked at the pictures of the two victims. Cher Matthews and
Jazmin Smalls. Two women with nothing in common. They never even
met. So… why?
Suddenly his phone rang.
“Hm?” Vince asked. Unknown caller.
“Hello?” he asked.
“Hello, detective. Did you like my latest doll?”
Vince frowned with a cold look in his eyes.
“Who is this?” The other caller hung up. The detective stared at
his phone. This was the second time this happened. Always the same
question. Vince could never trace the number. He looked down at the
photos on his desk. He couldn't help but wonder…

7:00 p.m.
Haley felt out of place in this club. Her friend didn't ask any
questions. Part of her wished she would. Maybe talk her out of it a
bit. Well, too late for that now. She was here.
“Little mouse!” someone yelled. Haley lifted her head. June waved
her over. The other woman practically jogged to her table.
“You made it,” June said as she stood to greet her.
“Hi…” Haley said. Her date held out her hand.
“Shall we?” she asked. Haley lifted her chin.
“Yes,” she said.
The women slow danced in the club. June stared deep into Haley's
eyes.
“Tell me,” she said. “Why are you here?”
“I…” Haley said. “I…” She pressed her lips together.
“I don't know,” Hayley said in a whisper. June gave her a
sympathetic smile.
“So cute,” she said. She leaned in and kissed Haley on the lips.
Her date hesitated before kissing back. June pulled away seconds
later.
“Any better?” she asked. Haley looked away blushing. Her date
chuckled and kissed her again. This time, Haley gave in easily.
Here I am, Baby
