Kyle growled under his breath as he remembered what Virgil told him about his wife, “Yes, it was you who killed your mother, and that is all he told me.”
“Yes, and as you can see I did not get away cleanly with my murders. For every sin I commit, a scar is forever carved into my face, so people know of what I have done. It was a way for God to punish me. The reason I killed your younger brother was of what he was capable of doing.” Adann paused as he retracted his hand from his face and rested it on the hilt of his sheathed sword.
“Capable?” Kyle raised an eyebrow in question.
Adann’s eyes seemed to reflect dark anger which his calm voice lacked, “He was capable of killing me and noticing him as a threat I killed him, if you were there with him I would have killed you also.”
Kyle gritted his teeth in anger, “Damn you, just because of that you killed him, how did you know he could kill you?” Kyle held his sword tighter until his knuckles were white.
“We crossed paths in that forest. I was returning from an errand, as your brother was practicing with his sword. To make a long story short he seen me with blood on my sword, I took him as a threat, that he saw to much and so I attacked him. I thought it would be an easy kill for me, but for someone younger then I he was rather difficult to beat. Towards the end of the fight your brother’s blocking became weak, and when I came down with my sword the last and final time, his arms gave out from under him and my sword came down upon his right shoulder.” Adann paused, it was clear he was replaying the fight in his mind.
“Why did you butcher his body further if it was the shoulder wound that already killed him?”
Adann smiled and shook his head, “The shoulder wound did not kill him, he proceeded to fight. Surprising me with his newly acquired strength he was able to get me with his sword.” Adann lifted his arm up and pulled down his sleeve. A thick scar ran down his right arm, starting from the middle of his upper arm down to the beginning of the back of his hand.
“This is the scar that your brother left me, it is a reminder to me that there was one person who was able to defeat me, if he was able to continue. I silenced him though when I ran my sword up into his chest.”
Kyle broke his stare from Adann and looked around the room wondering what his brother’s final fight looked like. He tried to picture it but for some reason could not. “One last final question and then I will finish what my brother had started.”
“And what question would that be?” Adann asked his eyebrow raised
“What were my brother’s final words?” Kyle looked down at his hands that grasped his sword handle then his eyes glanced at Virgil’s sword.
Adann laughed, “Are you sure you want that to be your final question?”
“I am sure,” Kyle answered quietly.
“He said something along the lines of, my older brother will have no mercy when it comes to taking your life. Hearing this my face turned to disgust and I threw him off my sword and he landed by the tree where he took his last breath. Carving my name in that tree I hoped to get your attention since I heard from your brother that you were the strongest in your family. I needed a challenge like that and so I grasped at the opportunity.” Adann unsheathed his sword and shifted into a fighting position.
“Well you sure got my attention,” Kyle sheathed his sword and pulled out Virgil’s, remembering on what he said about this being the only sword to kill me by.
“I see the decrepit old man gave you his sword, but do you really think that will stop me. My powers go beyond the night sky, even though my killings have drawbacks I receive undying trust from the darkness.”
“We will see about that, there are times when the darkness cannot get through the barrier of light.”
Kyle dashed towards Adann’s position not raising his sword until he was right on top of him. Adann looked into his eyes and smirked as he darted sideways, dodging the swift underhand movement from Kyle’s sword.
“I give you credit for a child you sure are fast,” Adann said in a mocking tone.
“I being of nineteen years, at no time do I call myself a child.”
The fight continued as the two men, light and darkness, darted about blocking each others fatal blows. Sparks scattered about each time their blades hit. The polished wooden floor was scuffed up before the match was a reality.
“Is this a warm up or are you always this lacking in ability?” Adann asked ridiculing Kyle’s technics.
Kyle smirked giving off a short laugh “What are you kidding me I am just warming up. If you thought that everything up until now was real then I suggest you lay down your sword.”
Adann sneered, “Never! People like me never bow down to lowlifes like you.”
Every moment Kyle examined the movements and attacks of his opponent. By doing this he seemed to always win his battles, finding his opponent’s weak spot was his number one priority. Preoccupied in the technics of his enemy he found himself unaware of what was about to happen.
Adann raised his blade and they collided only to be forced back from the power of each others strength, Adann found an opening, a weakness, and seized the opportunity.
Gripping his sword he quickly bolted in front of Kyle at an unhumanly speed. Kyle’s eyes did not flinch at Adann’s direct contact but had a hint of surprise behind them. Taking his free hand and flatting it out Adann came down bone crushingly onto Kyle’s forearm, which sent him to his knees immediately.
Kyle dared not to cry out in pain but he dug his teeth into his lip, causing a fine stream of blood to come down his chin. Kyle was in a daze his face was aiming towards the ground, as that was happening Adann side kicked Kyle’s sword across the room where it could not be touched. Adann walked up to him and grabbed his second sword that was still sheathed and also threw that across the room, landing right beside the other one.
“Weak, and powerless.” Adann raised his knee and forcefully jabbed it into the base of Kyle’s chin, sending him backwards landing on his back. “I guess your brother was wrong about you. You are nothing but a shadow to him, same blood same fate. Just like your parents!”
“My parents?” Kyle asked lethargically as he was trying to recover from the blow.
“What do you know about my parents?!” Kyle forced himself to stand holding his fractured arm.
“Nothing really except that I was the one to make them disappear. They would have gotten in your way in your journey to find me.”
As Adann stated this Kyle’s rage surged to a new high. He clenched his hand tightly around his injured arm
“So that is the reason for there sudden disappearance...,” his voice trailed off in low anger but it returned with more bitterness, “You killed them! You just didn’t kill my brother but my mother and father as well?!”
Adann smiled maliciously as he saw he hit Kyle’s weakness, “Correct, so what are going to do about this dilemma that you are in?”
“Yes, and as you can see I did not get away cleanly with my murders. For every sin I commit, a scar is forever carved into my face, so people know of what I have done. It was a way for God to punish me.
