[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

A/N: I'm very desperate for a review!!! Even one that says that this is a crap story, hopefully you'd elaborate, but that's all. Good or bad I'll take it. I've still been writing this story, and I'm up to about 11 chapters. So I am going to finish it whether anyone reviews or not, I like it too much no to. It's just one review would make me so happy. Ok…I'm done with the whining, on with the story.

Disclaimer: I don't own the Edmonton Oilers and the characters are totally made up by me and any resemblance to real life people is merely coincidental.

Chapter 4:

Matthew stared at the dancing couple, if anyone glanced his way just then they'd probably see steam coming out of his ears.

“Why aren't you dancing?” a voice asked from nearby.

Matthew turned towards the voice, the intruder, and saw Jacob standing there watching him curiously. Matthew didn't respond, he only gave him a quick glare before he turned back around to also glare at Tony dancing with Aiko.

“Ah…I see. You want her and bad,” Jacob added, sounding amused.

“Shut up,” he replied.

“Oh look, here's your chance.” Aiko was walking away form Tony and back towards them. “I'll leave you two alone. Now don't mess it up.”

Just as Jacob disappeared into the crowd Aiko approached Matthew's table, dropping herself down into a chair. “Oh man, I am so done tonight.”

He had to admit she looked exhausted, but still great, which frustrated him. “Hey…” He suddenly had an idea. “They have a patio upstairs if you want to go cool off.”

Her face visibly brightened and she seemed to find some new vigor. She jumped to her feet and grabbed his hand pulling him up. “Lead the way!”

He chuckled at her eagerness and squeezed her hand in assurance. “This way.”

Matthew weaved them through the mass of people to some stairs in a darkened corner. There was a big man standing in the way, but once he saw who was coming he let them through. With each step they could feel cooler and cooler air. Until they reached the top and came out onto a dimly lit roof with tasteful fluorescent lights and mini waterfalls here and there. Most of the light came from some of the surrounding buildings.

“Oh wow, this great!” Aiko exclaimed.

A shiver of pleasure went up Matthew's spine at her approval. He allowed her to tug them towards an unoccupied booth, where she immediately plopped into.

“Thanks.”

“You're welcome,” he replied, glad for the darkness that hid his blush.

They sat there quietly for a few minutes letting the faint music from below lull them.

“So do you want to tell me why you looked so sad before?” he asked, hoping he wasn't prying too much.

She looked surprised by his question but thankfully not angry, and then she let out a not so humorous sounding chuckle. “Oh you know, I was just in the middle of my own mini-pity party. Nothing big.”

“Are you sure? Because I'm willing to listen,” he offered.

She looked ready to refuse but suddenly a more thoughtful look overcame her face. “It's just that…everyone I know knows exactly what they want to do with their lives except me. And my parents, they don't understand that I need time to think. They think the sooner I'm done with school, the sooner I can get a job, get married and have babies,” she divulged.

“Ouch. And how old are you?” he asked curiously.

“Twenty-one,” she answered, “But I'll be twenty-two in less than a month.”

“But that's so young. Too young to think about settling down,” he argued. They were the same age and marriage and kids were something he always thought of for the distant future.

“So I'm in school to be a doctor, something I'm not so sure I want to be, and my parents are already interviewing possible suitors,” she added, laughing to herself. “But enough about me, lets talk about you.”

He ignored her request to change the subject. “But what do you really want?”

A pained expression overcame her face. “I'm good at a few things, but none of it really catches my eye. What I really want is too silly.”

“Tell me,” he pleaded.

She hesitated for a second and then let out a breath before saying, “An actress. I've always wanted to be an actress. But that's too unrealistic.”

“Why?” He looked at her quizzically. “You're more beautiful than all the actresses I've ever seen. You could do it.”

Her blush was prominent enough for him to see it in the dark. “For one, my parents, for another, I'm way too shy and quiet.”

“Shy? Quiet?” he asked confusedly.

“Well I guess not around you,” she added, smiling. “You're really easy to talk to. You know I've never told anyone else any of this.”

Matthew beamed with joy. “I think you could really do it.”

“Thanks Matt,” she said, shortening his name making it sound more affectionate.

One night and he was definitely hooked on this girl. They sat quietly and listened as the music changed from the fast beat to a nice slow rhythm.

“Are you sure you don't have the energy for one more dance?” he asked.

A slow smile spread across her face and she answered, “I thought you'd never ask.”

He pulled her to her feet and led her to an open area where he put his arms around her and pulled her close. Aiko rested her head against his shoulder and they swayed to the gentle beat.

It was one in the morning and definitely time to go home. Aiko and Matthew made their way back to the group and were saying their goodbyes.

“It was nice meeting you guys. I had a lot of fun tonight,” Aiko told them all, but had eyes only for Matthew.

Tony stepped towards her and led her aside for a private moment. Aiko was acutely aware of Matthew's eyes on her.

“Aiko,” Tony started. She liked the way her name came off his tongue, the two syllables greatly emphasized. “I was wondering if you will give me your phone number.”

His question was so sincere, with a hint of fear at maybe her rejecting him. The problem was there was only one person who she wanted to give that phone number to. But she couldn't say no to him.

“Yeah sure,” she answered, quickly jotting down her cell phone number.

“Thanks, you're a very sweet girl,” he replied, grinning broadly.

They rejoined the group and she felt Matthew's eyes on her the whole time, she felt a little guilty.

“Ok, it's time for us to go,” Hugh spoke up. “It was nice meeting you lovely ladies, and hopefully we'll see you again soon.” He directed a wink in Yumi's direction, who had a happy blush on her face.

The hockey players turned to go, but Matthew hung back for a second. He took Aiko's hand in his and placed a scrap of paper there, closing her hand around it. “You know if you ever want to talk some more, call me and I'll listen.” His words were too sweet and she loved them.

Aiko impulsively stood on her tip toes and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. “Definitely,” she answered.

A grin came across his face and he nodded once before turning to catch up to the guys. She watched him until he was out of sight and then turned towards her friends. And she was a little puzzled to see the open mouthed looks on the three faces.

“What?” she asked irritated, stomping out of the club.

She knew that once they were in the car she'd be interrogated.

Well that's it. It starts getting interesting in the next few chapters. I hope you like. And please review.

Thanks
