Chapter 5:
“So spill, where'd you two disappear to, and what exactly were you two doing?” Laila asked eagerly.
“And how come you get to hog two guys?” Sarah whined.
“I didn't hog two guys,” Aiko protested.
“Yes you did. First Tony only danced with you for like an hour and that whole time Matthew spent staring at you,” Sarah complained.
“That part is not her fault,” Yumi logically added.
“Who cares about that, where'd you go? And why did you kiss him? We know you aren't very frivolous with those kisses,” Laila's one track mind inquired.
“We went up to the patio to talk, and we danced a little bit,” Aiko confessed.
Sarah continued to pout. “Not fair.”
“And the kiss?” Laila hounded.
“It was just on the cheek!” Aiko exclaimed, exasperated.
“Yeah, yeah, and…” Laila again.
“He just helped me figure something out. He was really sweet,” she said gently
“Ooh, how romantic,” Laila cooed.
“But you gave your phone number to Tony,” Yumi stated, a bit confused.
“He's a really nice kind. So it was kind of hard to say no to him,” Aiko confessed.
“You can't lead him on, you know. Especially if you like Matthew so much,” Sarah added.
“I know, I know,” Aiko grumbled. She knew her best friend was right, but she had to wonder why Sarah was acting so obnoxious.
They pulled up to her car that she'd parked outside of Laila's house and she climbed out along with Laila. They said their goodbyes to each other and Yumi and Sarah drove off.
Before Aiko could get into her car Laila had to add something. “You need to choose Aiko, before it gets out of hand.”
“I just met them!” Aiko exclaimed before getting into her car.

“Man tonight was awesome!” Hugh exclaimed as they drove home.
“Yeah it was a killer club,” Jacob commented.
“I didn't just mean the club. I mean the girls, too,” Hugh added. “Yumi is beautiful.”
“She's also about half your age,” Matthew said, chuckling at the frown on Hugh's face.
“She's 24, we're both adults,” he pouted.
“It's all right buddy,” Tony assured him. “She seemed very nice. But I think I'm in love with Aiko!”
Jacob and Hugh both burst out laughing, but Matthew just glared at the back of Tony's head.
“You just met her,” Jacob scoffed. “Did you even say two words to her?”
“Yes we talked while we danced,” Tony replied defensively.
For a second Matthew was afraid that Aiko had told Tony the same things she'd told him. He didn't want that. He wanted to feel like they had shared something special.
“About?” Hugh prodded.
“The songs they were playing. You know stuff like that,” Tony replied.
Matthew let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding.
“Anyways I'm going to call her, maybe ask her out or something,” Tony continued.
Matthew didn't know it could actually happen, but he could really feel his blood starting to boil. It took him a minute to register that Hugh was talking to him.
“Huh, what?”
“I said where'd you disappear too?” Hugh asked, curiously.
“Oh, that.” Here was his chance to make Tony just as mad as he was. “Me and Aiko went upstairs to the patio. You know, we talked, danced, and stuff.” He put a little emphasis on the word stuff.
Matthew had the satisfaction of seeing Tony's head snap around so fast he probably gave himself whiplash.
“What?” Tony demanded.
“What?” Matthew replied innocently. He knew it was childish but he couldn't help it.
Tony glared daggers at him and was about to say something.
“Oh look Tony, we're at your place,” Jacob announced loudly.
Tony didn't say anything. He just opened the door and got out, slamming it behind him.
“Whoa,” Hugh spoke up. “That wasn't pretty.”
“Did you two really go up to the patio?” Jacob wanted to know.
“Yeah,” Matthew answered concisely.
“Man you know you never move in on another guy's girl,” Hugh chastised, but sounded amused at the same time.
“She's not his girl. And all we did was talk and dance,” Matthew said adamantly.
“And the stuff?” Jacob asked.
“That was…just to make Tony mad,” he confessed.
“You know, I once fought over a girl with my best friend,” Jacob started.
“Oh yeah, what happened?” Hugh asked.
“I've got a new best friend now,” Jacob said grimly. “You got to ask yourself, is she worth it?”
Matthew didn't even have to think about it. “Definitely.”
