Chapter 11:

“So what's up with your dad?” Sarah asked curiously.

Aiko had her books wide open and she had been reading them thoroughly when Sarah suddenly interrupted. “What do you mean?”

“I mean he's not looking very happy, and he didn't seem too pleased when he saw me at the door,” Sarah told her.

“Oh, that,” Aiko said nonchalantly. “He just doesn't like the fact that I'm out there dating.”

“Dating, huh?” Sarah considered. “Matthew and Tony?”

“Mm hmm,” Aiko confirmed as she stared at a fairly difficult bio problem. She suddenly looked up and said, “But mostly Matthew… I only want Matthew.”

“What's up with you two? You've only went out with him a couple of times and you're so close. Are you exclusive yet?” Sarah asked eagerly.

“We haven't talked about that. But I am going out with Tony on Saturday,” Aiko told her.

“No way?”

“Yeah. He's a really sweet guy. It's hard to say no to him,” Aiko confessed. “When Matthew found out, though, he wasn't too happy.”

“See, he wants you all to himself,” Sarah announced excitedly.

“I guess so. I mean I haven't heard him mention anyone else,” Aiko agreed.

“Aiko,” Sarah started, suddenly serious. “You've seriously got to nip this thing with Tony in the bud, before it damages your relationship with Matthew.”

“You're right! I'll go out with him on Saturday and that's the end,” Aiko vowed.

“Meanwhile, you should do something special for Matthew when he gets back,” Sarah suggested.

“Don't worry, I already have something planned,” Aiko decided, thinking of the key Matthew had given her.

“Thanks mom for helping me out,” Aiko said as she finished kneading the dough. “I think I've got it from here.”

Mrs. Tanaka wiped her hands on a cloth. “All right, don't forget to preheat the oven first. I should get going and make dinner for the rest of us.”

Aiko was at Matthew's apartment. She had called him right after the team had won the second game against Vancouver. He had been so happy and excited about it that she'd promised to be waiting for him in his apartment when he got back. He was due in about twenty minutes and Aiko was busy making his favorite pizza for him.

“Thanks again. I know you're not happy with me, but I really appreciate your help,” Aiko told her sincerely.

“Aiko you've always been a responsible girl, if you think you're ready for tomorrows test, then you are. I trust you,” Mrs. Tanaka let her words sink in as she gathered her things.

“I'll see you later,” Aiko said, hugging her mother good bye.

Aiko began to clean up the mess they'd made while her pizza cooked. Ten minutes later Aiko heard the jingling of keys and went to the door to wait for Matthew to come inside. Quickly, she smoothed down the outfit that she'd picked out so carefully, a pale yellow, knee length, pleated skirt and a matching off the shoulder, button up peasant shirt.

As soon as the door opened and Matthew stepped in Aiko through her arms around Matthew, who had to drop his bags to steady them.

“Aiko...” He said her name so affectionately; he took a minute to take her in before he cupped her face and kissed her tenderly.

In the background, Aiko barely heard the timer go off on the oven. She had to break away unless they wanted a burned pizza for dinner.

“Matthew,” Aiko murmured against his lips. He kissed her again and she had to push him back a little. “Matthew,” she tried again. “Your dinner is going to burn.”

He finally pulled back and said, “Dinner?”

“Yeah.” She took his hand and led him to the kitchen. “See I made you dinner, pizza.”

“Wow, so that's what smelled so good. And I thought it was you,” Matthew joked.

“I smell like pizza?” she asked dryly.

Matthew laughed.

“Do you want to change or take a shower first?” she asked as she slid the pizza out of the oven.

“I'll just go change. Be back in a second,” he told her.

She took the time to cut the pizza and laid it out for him to eat. He came back into the room looking fresh in a simple blue t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Matthew headed straight for her and continued the kiss they had been sharing. Long and sensuous, Aiko again had a hard time pulling away.

“Pizza, remember,” she breathed out.

“I like cold pizza,” he murmured, as he pressed his lips against hers, taking her bottom lip between his and sucking gently. She forgot all about the pizza and deepened the kiss instead. Their arms went around each other and it was getting pretty intense until… a loud ding sounded. And they broke apart abruptly, both startled.

“What was that?” Matthew exclaimed.

Aiko took a second to catch her breath before answering, “That was the timer for the oven.”

“You've got something else in there?” he asked incredulously.

“Ah… no I actually set it just in case this happened.” She pointed to the both of them. “I knew we'd get carried away.” She grinned.

“You did, did you?” Matthew returned the grin.

“Yes I did,” she confirmed, guiding him to a chair. “Now sit and eat.”

“Ok, ok,” he laughed.

She sat across form him and started to eat too.

Half way through the meal, Matthew put his food down and just stared at Aiko.

“What?” she asked when she finally noticed, a blush tingeing her cheeks.

“This is really nice,” he told her smiling genuinely. Then he picked up his pizza and resumed eating, leaving a big smile on Aiko's face.

“Dinner was great, thank you,” Matthew complimented.

They were now sitting on Matthew's couch, cuddled up together, just enjoying each others presence.

“It's nothing like the gourmet pasta you made me, but your welcome,” Aiko replied, and then suddenly burst out, “Oh crap! I forgot dessert! I need to go make you something.”

She was halfway out of her seat when Matthew pulled her back down. “Aiko, I don't need dessert. Besides…” he grinned. “I can think of a few things that are much tastier than dessert.”

Aiko looked confused for a second, and Matthew waited until she finally got his meaning. “Oh… oh those are much better,” she agreed.

Aiko leaned into him and Matthew didn't hesitate. His lips moved against hers slowly, rhythmically, lulling her into a place she'd never known, a place she couldn't name.

Matthew wasn't content with just kissing her, he wanted to hold her; without breaking the kiss he pulled her onto his lap so that she straddled him. She gasped into his kiss when their bodies touched in so many intimate and promising ways.

He let his kisses wander from her lips, along her jaw, down her throat, pausing there, giving her neck some much needed attention. And then down further to where her skin disappeared under her shirt.

Her own hands made their way under his own shirt and were spreading wildfires across his chest. Stopping his ministrations briefly he allowed her to slowly pull his shirt over his head. She shyly stared at his bare chest and then put her hands on him, caressing him. He kissed her warmly, letting his hands glide up over her bare legs to rest on her hips under her skit. They both wanted more, to go further. He lowered her down onto the couch and leaned over her.

“Matthew,” she breathed out in welcoming. He kissed her once more and then leaned back slightly. One by one the buttons on her shirt popped open. He could tell she wasn't wearing anything underneath. He wanted to uncover her, to revel in every beautiful inch of her. He kissed the path that he'd uncovered until he reached the waistband of her skirt.

And just as he was about to pull open her shirt and reveal her, a fierce knocking came at the door. Matthew groaned at the worst possible timing ever. He let his head rest at her stomach breathing deeply, taking in air and Aiko's scent. She smelled too good and that wasn't going to calm him down.

The knocking came again and the disappointed couple pulled apart.

“Hey Matthew, we know you're in there with Aiko,” a voice called.

“We saw your cars,” another voice called.

It was the annoying Carter brothers; Matthew pulled on his shirt and looked at Aiko. “Do I have too?” he asked.

Aiko smiled apologetically, as she buttoned up her own shirt. “Well they're here…”

Matthew groaned again and went to the door, opening it his immediate greeting was, “What do you two want?”

Riley and Ray Carter stepped inside.

“What, we can't visit our favorite teammate?” Riley asked.

“You can,” Matthew agreed. “So go visit Jacob.”

“Fine, fine, then we want to visit our best friend,” Ray retorted. “Is that a crime?”

Aiko laughed in the background. Aiko had met Matthew's two best friends at the last practice she watched. They were utter clowns. And she had a lot of fun talking to them. Riley, the older, was a regular defenseman on the team, and Ray his younger brother was one too but had been called up from the minors when one of the other defenseman was injured. She liked to see them, but they'd come at such an inopportune moment.

They stepped into the room and stopped suddenly to stare at Aiko. She knew she must of looked a mess, her clothes all wrinkly, her shirt twisted, the sleeves down. And her hair had become loose from the bun she had it in, letting a few curly tendrils hang down her face.

“Man Aiko,” Riley started, “You look hot!”

“Totally sexy!” Ray added.

They were practically drooling and best friends or not Matthew was going to kill them. He stepped in front of Aiko blocking their view. The brothers protested immediately and Aiko blushed.

“Guys, go away,” Matthew suggested.

“No way,” they both answered.

Aiko stepped around Matthew. “It's ok Matt. Look I made another pizza; all you need to do is pop it in the oven for fifteen minutes or so. You guys eat it and hang out.”

“Where are you going?” Matthew asked.

“I have that test tomorrow morning. I need to go to sleep a little early,” she confessed.

“Don't go,” Ray whined.

“All right,” Matthew answered. “Good luck, but I know you'll do great anyways.”

She kissed him briefly and grabbed her things.

“Guys we should hang out sometime, all four of us, when I don't have a test in the morning,” she said to Riley and Ray.

“We'll hold you to that,” Riley told her.

“So I'll talk to you tomorrow Matthew,” she said affectionately. “Bye.”

“Bye,” he replied, giving her a sad wave.

“Did we uh… interrupt something when we came over?” Ray asked clueless.

Matthew just laughed at his friend and headed to the kitchen.
