~~Dylan ~~

Dylan blinked open his eyes slowly, letting the world around him come into focus. What the... what just happened? A moment passed before the teen realized he was lying on soft, wet grass. Standing quickly, Dylan brushed the residue from his pants and looked around. The store was gone. Scott and Sammy were nowhere in sight. He hoped they were okay. There was no way of knowing. The full moon shone brightly overhead through a canopy of thick tree leaves and branches, but there were no stars, only abundant blue tinted clouds that avoided the moon.

He wasn't as alone as he thought. The forest hummed with the small sounds of animals and other creatures of the night. Most of them unrecognizable. I've got to get out of here and find the others. The dark-haired teen started walking, hoping to find any trace of Sammy or Scott as quickly as possible without attracting attention of the unknown.

Grass crunched heavily under Dylan's work boots as he progressed further and further into the dark forest. Creatures of the night peered at him in wonderment, as if they'd never seen anything like him before. Glancing about anxiously, a sensation of being followed filled the adolescent with apprehension. He laughed nervously then continued onward, avoiding roots and small pants that stood in his path. Where the heck am I? There's no way this is Peotone.

Suddenly, he stumbled over an unseen tree root and fell facedown to the ground with a thump. He laid there for a moment, then heard a sharp twittering. Dylan looked up to see a small creature no taller then a ruler with translucent green wings. Diminutive dark purple veins were intricately woven and easily seen through her electric blue skin. The little winged-creature's eyes were thin, like a snake's, and were bright yellow; her strikingly violet hair was swept up in a high ponytail and tied with tree vines. She wore primitive style clothes that hung loosely on her petite frame.

"Uh, hi?” Dylan asked, not knowing what to say, or if the creature could even understand him.

“Human?” She questioned. Dylan nodded. “I'm am Aria. What is it you seek?”

“I'm looking for my brother Scott, and his girlfriend Sammy.” He stood slowly as she fluttered her wings and flew up to sit on his shoulder.

“You mean other humans? There have not been humans here for thousands of years. What you seek does not exist. You should not exist.”

“Don't you argue with me...” Dylan replied as he began to walk. “They're here somewhere.”

“I will help you search for them, but you must be well-equipped for what awaits you here. Things are not as they seem and your world has ill-prepared you for this one.”

“What do you mean `my world?' Am I dead?” Dylan questioned. Aria laughed, a sound resembling trickling water.

“You are not dead Dy-lan, merely out of place.” She answered, “Now, to ensure your survival, you must prove capable of wielding a weapon. All I can give you is a simple master sword; anything else you must acquire on your own.” After a short pause, Dylan noticed something heavy on his side. He looked down and realized a sword and sheath had just appeared attached to his belt.

“All right, then let's get moving.”

“That's the spirit.” Aria smiled cheerfully.
