Chapter 2 - How could this get worse?
Recap:
“Mama?” She asked looking around. It was starting to worry her, so she ran up the stairs to her parents room.
She heard a creaking from inside the room and placed her hand on the door.
Now the story:
As the knob turned Livie felt her blood pumping through her veins. She pulled open the door to see feet hanging down from the ceiling. A scream sounded from her throat as she realized that it was her mom hanging from the ceiling a noose around her neck.
The police were moving in and out of the house as they took her body. Livie was sitting on the couch her knees pulled to her chest. Her dark brown hair stuck to her pale face because of her tears. The skin under her brown eyes was red and puffy and she felt like she couldn't cry anymore.
“How did you find her?” A black haired police officer asked her for the third time. The first two times she wasn't able to say anything without bursting out crying.
“I had come home from school and I smelt bread baking in the oven and so I thought everything was and I called to her but she didn't answer. So I checked in the kitchen... She wasn't there so I ran upstairs and I opened the door to the room and she was hanging there... Dead.” She finally was able to manage.
“And your father?” He asked after a moments pause.
“He's probably at some pub down town?” She shook her head.
“And your name?” The man asked looking down at her.
“Livie. L-I-V-I-E. Not w. Livie Fiala. I'm Czech so don't make fun of my v's.” She told him frowning at the situation.
The police officer smiled and nodded. He turned and walked away and Livie was left alone again. It was how she would live from now on pretty much. Her father was always in the pubs drinking.
“WHERE IS LIVIE!?!” Someone screeched from the door. “I WANT TO SEE MY LIVIE!!!”
“Sir please calm down…” A police officer sighed.
“Okay.. Okay... What's going on? Did Livie do something wrong?”
“No sir... Your wife committed suicide. And Livie found her.” An officer sighed. “Are you drunk sir?”
“Yes. I am but I didn't drive I never drive...” Her father promised.
“Thank you sir... Go see your daughter...” The officer sounded annoyed.
A man with more than a five a clock shadow and bloodshot eyes rushed into the room and fell at the edge of the couch.
“Livie... Oh Livie you found her? Oh Livie... I knew she was unhappy but...God... Why?” He groaned as he tried to push himself up.
“Papa, it's okay I'll be fine. But Papa you are going to have to get a job and I'll start cooking and...” Livie sobbed into her knees.
Her dad finally got on the couch and pulled her into a hug. He rocked her back and forth crying himself.
“Livie I promise I'll sober up... I promise.” He paused. “When did you grow up? So logical..”
The bell rang for fifth hour and Livie slipped out of her desk and walked down the hall. It was the second week of school and three days after the funeral. At first she thought it was just a bad dream and that she would just... Wake up any time, but she never did.
What made it even worse was the fact that she had an apparent lack of friends. No one would sit or talk to her, so she had to eat lunch at a table by herself.
“Hey... I just wanted to say sorry about your mom.” Someone tapped her on the shoulder. She swung around was surprised to see a boy only a little taller than her with tan skin and soft brown hair.
“Huh?” She asked surprised that someone was actually talking to her.
“Yea... Well I mean...My mom knew your mom... And they were getting pretty close when she did that. I'm sorry I didn't talk to earlier but I'm kinda shy y'know.” He laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head which disturbed the flippyness of it.
“Oh it's fine and... Thank you.” She smiled meekly.
“Yeah, well do you want me to walk you to class?”
“Sure that would be cool.”
They walked in silence but Livie couldn't help feeling it was a little better until the boy with the blonde boy passed. They made eye contact and his eyes seemed to flash black as he bared teeth at her.
She gasped and stumbled backwards. The other boy caught her and glared at the blonde.
“Ah... Don't mind him. He is a loner. I'm Ceri, by the way.”
“I like your name. And I'm Livie.” She nodded slightly. “Well this is my class…”
They had arrived at the Geometry 1. They stood there awkwardly then went their separate ways.
