His eyes fluttered slowly open, staring straight up to a white-washed ceiling. The room was bright, so he guessed it was day. Crystal blue eyes glanced slowly around the room; most of the walls were white, and he noticed a monitor near the bed he found he was laying on. A voice distracted him from his wanderings, looking up slightly to the face a young woman, a gentle look on her face.

“How are you feeling?”

“Where - where am I?” The nurse didn't answer right away, but checked the equipment that was attached to his arm, fiddling with the knobs on the monitor for a bit. She finally looked back to him, a relieved and gentle smile on her delicate face.

“You're in the hospital, dear. You certainly caused a lot of commotion down at the bridge.”

“The bridge?” He blinked, not sure what the nurse was saying. The woman looked at him curiously, before nodding her head.

“Yes, at the bridge - you just jumped right off it into the water. In the start of winter no less. You were lucky to be saved.” He slowly pushed himself up to a sitting position, though the nurse suggested that he rest back down. Blue eyes glanced around the room, now able to get a proper glance at his surroundings.

“Don't you remember jumping off?” The nurse's sudden question threw him off guard a little, turning his face to gaze at her.

“No - no, I don't remember anything.”

“Do you at least remember your name?”

“Yes - Gabriel. My name is Gabriel.” The nurse smiled that relief smile again and nodded her head as she moved away from the bed. Gabriel watched her as she walked over to the window, pulling the blinds partly open to allow a little more sunlight to pass through, and warm the room a little. The blond watched her a few minutes more, before staring down at his hands.

// So, now the story is suicide by drowning? I wonder… //

Gabriel looked back to the window, staring through the blinds and to the streets below. Since he was banished for eternity on earth, he could not really die; it didn't mean he couldn't, he could still die, but he would return to life again in another way. For every one time he killed himself, he would take the place of another mortal who had just killed themselves as well. This time, it seemed to be a boy who had killed himself by drowning.

// I wonder how long I will live this one? //

The blond wonder, who was the boy's soul he had replaced - did he have a family he had to deal with, a lover or a companion who may have been kind or abusive. A sigh escaped Gabriel's lips as he pondered his new situation; he was startled by a voice that wasn't the nurse's.

“You seem so sad to be alive, little one.” Light blue eyes widened slightly at the voice, facing towards the door of the room. He caught eyes with the man standing in the doorway - the same green eyes he remember seeing just before he had passed out. Gabriel was silent for a moment, gazing at the man's smiling face; he seemed so warm and gentle.

“Wh-who are you?” Gabriel managed in a timid voice; the man only hummed lightly, as he walked towards the bed, pulling out a stool to sit down on.

“My name is Ralf, and I - well not to sound cocky or any thing - saved your life.” Gabriel stared blankly at Ralf; he wasn't sure why, but there was something about this man that made him feel safe. Perhaps it was his voice, or the aura that seemed to radiate from him, or the gentle look to his green eyes, but something there felt very familiar to the blond. The lack of response seemed to make Ralf a little nervous; he made a small noise, trying to start a small conversation with Gabriel.

“So - how are you feeling? Are you warm enough? The water was pretty cold.”

“I - ah! I'm fine! And - and thank you so much for - for rescuing me.” The dark-haired man let out a sigh of relief, earning him a confused look from the young blond.

“At least you seem better about being alive. I wouldn't want you to have a grudge against me for saving you.” Ralf explained, rubbing one hand behind his head. Gabriel stared at him with slightly wide eyes, before a soft smile appeared on his face, letting out a small hum. They talked for a little while, until Ralf started asking questions that Gabriel had of his own.

“So, do you have any family, Gabriel?”

“I - I don't know… I don't remember anything…”

“I see - well, I can talk to the doctors and stuff and see if they can find out.” Gabriel looked at him rather surprised, pulling back some of his long, blond hair behind his ear.

“They can do that?”

“Of course - in fact, I'll go ask right now, for you. How about it?” Ralf smiled at the blond's surprise that a hospital could hold data about his family. Gabriel nodded timidly, slightly shaking fingers playing with the end of his bed sheets. Ralf stood up to his feet, giving Gabriel a quick pat before walking out of the room to see a doctor about his information.

“…I see.”

“Gabriel, I'm sorry.” Gabriel listened to Ralf's words, hiding his eyes from the man behind his long bangs. He long life on earth had taught how to act in many ways he never could as an angel; it was serving his purpose right now. After Ralf asked around the staff and found the information about his `family', it hadn't been very up lifting news. Apparently, the boy's life that Gabriel had taken over lost his family at a very young age; he had been bouncing around from foster home to foster home and had been abused on many occasions. It didn't surprise the blond one bit that the boy decided to end his life.

“They said your family died years ago, and that - you've been to several foster families already.” Ralf explained folding his hands across his lap, trying his best not too sound too pitiful or sympathetic, but honestly worried. Gabriel turned his head away, not because it was too depressing, but because he wasn't sure he was pulling off a convincing expression.

“It's okay - I really don't remember anything except for my name.”

“I guess its better that way.” Silence fell uneasily around the room, Ralf unsure of how to handle the situation, and Gabriel unsure if he should try to act more depressed about the news or accept it as it is due to memory loss. Severally minutes stretched long as neither of them exchanged words. Finally, Ralf cleared his throat, the cough making Gabriel look to him.

“I know that - we've only just met, and I'm a complete strange to you, but I…” Ralf looked completely lost, scratching the back of his head, his other hand leaning on the edge of the stool he was sitting on. Gabriel blinked at him, waiting for the man to finish the question. “I was thinking - maybe you would like to live with me?”

“Huh?” Gabriel was taken completely by surprised at the question; the blond sat there blinking for several minutes, unsure of what to make of the proposal. Ralf watched him for a long time, waiting anxiously for his answer; finally after about a good 10 minutes of staring at each other, he let out a heavy sigh, and shook his head.

“Never mind - forget I asked.” The brunet stood up from the stool, gathering his still slightly damp coat and was about to leave for the door, when Gabriel grabbed him by the sleeves. Ralf stopped, turning his head to face the young blond, looking at him puzzling.

“I - I'm sorry. I was - I was shocked, but I…” Gabriel paused for a moment, letting his hand slide away from Ralf's arm sleeve. Ralf stood there, watching Gabriel, an almost hopeful shine in his eyes. Gabriel looked up at him, a gentle smile on his face.

“I would like very much - to stay with you.”

“Alright then! I'll talk with the hospital and see if we can arrange that.”

Gabriel stared out the car window, watching everything that had passed him by. He found out that he was in L.A. - much different then the previous place he had been in, and he was fascinated by how different the houses looked here. Ralf occasionally glanced at the young blond, smiling at his amazement of the area; it amused the man that Gabriel's amnesia was really that bad. They drove for about an hour, before the car finally turned down one street and then pulled into a driveway. Gabriel gapped at the house, his eyes going wide as he looked up at the building.

“WOW!! This is where you live?! It's huge!!” Ralf laughed a little, patting Gabriel on the head, ushering them inside the house. The blond looked this way and that trying to take in everything inside the house once they were in. It was a simple complex, about two stories high, but it was large and spacey, and had many doors that led to different rooms. The downstairs consisted of a living room and a small kitchen counter/bar area that were connected together; across from that was the main kitchen, with a door on the side that led to the dinning room. There was one study room and two guest rooms on the downstairs.

Ralf ushered them upstairs, so he could show Gabriel the rest of the house. The upstairs had three more bedrooms, two bathrooms with full shower and bathtub sets, and two smaller ones with just the toilet and the sink. Next to one of the bedrooms was a work room/study hall; Ralf explained that he did most of his work in that room, so if Gabriel needed anything, he would find him there.

“So - what do you do for work?” Gabriel asked, his curiosity getting the better of him, as he leaned his head in to peek inside. His eyes went wide at the stack of books and piles of paper spread everywhere not just on the table, but on the floor as well. Ralf closed the door in a hurry, a nervous expression on his face.

“I work as a translator for foreign novels and stuff. Sorry - but the room is a mess right now!” Ralf scratched the back of his head, a sheepish smile on his face; Gabriel blinked, but smiled widely back at him. He didn't understand why, but something about this man felt - safe. The man looked surprised for a moment, before a gentle smile came to his features as well.

“Come, I'll show you to your room.”

“Okay.” Ralf led Gabriel down the hallway to the second away from the work room; he held the door open as he let the blond step in first, taking a gander of the room. Gabriel made a small noise of excitement as he looked around the room. It was a very spacious room, with a high ceiling; the walls were painted white, with the patterns of the sky along the top walls. The floor was carpeted in a rich crème color. There were very little items inside the room - there was a large bed just up against the wall in the far left corner, a medium size dresser in the right corner, a small vanity set and comfy looking arm chair next to the windows across the room.

“So - do you like it?” Gabriel turned to Ralf with a huge smile on his eyes, holding his arms behind his back.

“I love it!! Thank you so much, Mr. Ralf!!”

“I'm glad - and please, you can just call me Ralf.” Ralf smiled at Gabriel's happiness. The blond smiled even wider, a slight blush coming to his cheeks as he gazed around the room more. He wondered - how long had it been since he had last been treated so comfortably, or kindly. Gabriel had been deceived many times before in the past; he had been treated kindly and taken in by many humans before, and always ended up hurt or killed. So why did he agree to live with this man?

“Ralf!” Ralf stopped at the sound of his name, turning to face Gabriel, a puzzlingly look on his face. Before he could ask anything, the young blond had reached for him and hugged him tight around the waist, surprising him a little.

“Thank you so much, Ralf!! You - you are truly a kind person!” Ralf blushed, both at Gabriel's words and at the hug, straining out a small noise of acknowledgement. When it seemed that the young blond was not going to let him go any time soon, he gently pushed him away, his blush deep red, and reaching all the way to the tip of his ears.

“Um - I know you probably don't have any clothes, s-so we should go o-out and get you some soon!!” Gabriel nodded his head, finally letting go of Ralf completely; Ralf let out a slight sigh of relief. It's not that he didn't mind Gabriel hugging him, but in the context of what was said and the hug together was a little embarrassing for him. However, Gabriel didn't seem to mind hugging him for whatever reasons it may be, he seemed to be happy with him. Ralf smiled, patting Gabriel on the head.

= It's alright, isn't it? Besides, what's hug - when it's between two strangers growing into friends? =

“Hey Ralf - show me around your kitchen!!” Gabriel grabbed Ralf's hand, dragging him downstairs towards the main kitchen area. Ralf looked at the blond confused, his jaw hanging open slightly.

“Ha? Why?”

“Because I want to know where everything is - I want to cook a meal for you!” Gabriel replied happily.

“AH?! Wha - wait!” Before Ralf could get another word out Gabriel dragged him down the stairs towards the kitchen door and started questioning about every cupboard, closest and gadget that was inside the room.

(Depends on when I get the penning and other junk done, since I don't have toning sheets).
