Chapter 7: Zach and Kellen
Kellen called Zach several times on Saturday, but his phone was off. The empty feeling that had come over him Friday night blossomed into full-blown depression. He missed Zach. The thought that they might never speak to each other again tormented him. He spent most of the day in his room, hating himself for having sex with Lisa and wishing Zach would call him. He couldn't sleep at all that night.
But he did manage to fall asleep at some point, because he was awakened by his phone late Sunday morning. He nearly dropped it snatching it off his nightstand.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Kellen. You called me yesterday.”
The sound of Zach's voice almost reduced Kellen to tears. “Yeah. Where were you? I thought maybe you were mad at me.”
“Nah, I forgot my phone yesterday. I went with my folks to the art and wine show and we were there all day. I didn't check my phone till this morning and saw I missed some calls from you.”
“Do you have time to see me today?”
“I wish, but Mom's decided the house is a sty and needs a thorough cleaning. I don't know why she doesn't hire a maid, but she says that's because she has me.” Zach laughed. “So anyway, we'll have to wait until Monday. Is that ok?”
“Yeah, that's fine.”
“Ok. I gotta go. Mom's calling me. Bye.”
Zach hung up and Kellen stared at the blinking numbers showing him the length of the phone call: forty-nine seconds. Zach hadn't sounded angry but Kellen didn't feel any better. He dumped his phone on the nightstand and went to the bathroom to pee. He stared into the mirror as he washed his hands afterward.
“You're not being honest with yourself, boy,” he said to his reflection. “You know what you want, you just won't admit it.” He dashed water in his face and leaned on the edge of the sink. “Well, Mom said I could tell her anything. Maybe it's time to ask for some advice.”
Kellen found his mother in the living room folding laundry. It was such a mundane activity and he had seen her do it so many times, it gave him the courage to decide that this was the right time to talk to her. Seeing her sitting there with the piles of folded laundry all around her and a heap of unfolded laundry at her feet, he found the desire to bolt easier to ignore.
“Say, Mom? Can we talk for a minute?”
“Of course, honey. What's up?”
“It's about Zach.” Kellen sat down on the floor opposite her and started matching up pairs of socks. “You asked me before if we were having sex and I said we were.”
His mother nodded but she didn't speak. She made eye contact briefly but she didn't watch his face. Kellen was encouraged. This was her way of drawing him out. He drew a deep breath and plunged in.
“We've been seeing each other for almost a month. We have sex when we get together, but I'm starting to think there's more to it than that.” He dug through the laundry pile for more socks. It was easier to talk when his hands were busy and his eyes had something to focus on. “What I'm wondering is: how do you know when someone is special? If you're already having sex with a person, how can you tell if that person is starting to mean more to you than other people?”
“Do you like Zach?”
“Yeah, I think he's great. He's really smart and he's always helping people. He helps me with my homework all the time. I aced my last math test because of him.” Kellen paused with a frown. “But that's not it. When I'm with Zach, I'm really happy. No one else makes me feel like that.” He looked up at his mother. “Do you think that means…?” He hesitated to say the words, waiting for his mother to pick up the sentence.
“You're wondering if you're in love with him,” she said matter-of-factly.
Kellen nodded, blushing.
“We haven't talked that much about your relationships before, but I get the impression that you don't have a whole lot of experience. You've never had a girlfriend. Is Zach your first lover?”
“No.” Kellen felt his blush deepening. “I… was with a girl once before him. And there have been a few girls since then…”
“It's not unusual for someone your age to start experimenting sexually, including homosexual relationships.” His mother finished the shirt she was folding and set it aside. Then she clasped her hands in her lap and leaned toward him. “Do you think you're gay?”
“I don't know. I didn't think I was. And I enjoy doing it with girls.” He flushed when he realized how promiscuous that made him sound. “But I like doing it with Zach more,” he made himself continue. “I'd rather do it with Zach than anyone else.”
“How do you think Zach feels about you?”
“I know he likes me, because he says so all the time, but he also always says he won't fall in love with a straight guy, so I'm not sure if he feels the same way about me that I do about him. And he has gay friends that he sees. But he says he likes being with me more, so I just don't know for sure.” He stopped, his eyes fixed on his mother's face.
“I think,” she said slowly, “that you should tell him how you feel. Wouldn't it be better to know if he reciprocates your feelings?”
“But what if he doesn't?” Kellen shifted uncomfortably. “Zach's never had a boyfriend before. If he doesn't want to get too involved, he might decide to stop seeing me.”
His mother smiled suddenly. “I think that answers your question.”
“What do you mean?” Kellen stared at her in confusion.
“You're worried about losing him. If he wasn't special to you, you wouldn't care so much. But you'll have to decide if only having a sexual relationship with him is enough. If you want more, you'll have to take the risk and ask for more.”
Kellen bit his lip. “Was it like this the first time you fell in love with someone?”
His mother nodded. “Pretty much. Only the guy had no clue who I was and he blew me off without even thinking about it. I cried for a week.”
“That's not very encouraging.”
She reached for another piece of laundry. “There is no reward without risk, Kellen.” She smiled at him. “But I'm heavily biased and I can't imagine Zach turning you down. I think you're quite a catch.”
Kellen ducked his head. “You don't mind that it's a guy we're talking about?”
“Well,” his mother paused, another shirt draped across her knees. “I admit I'd be a little more comfortable if you were asking me about a girl, but my son's happiness is what I care about. So tell Zach how you feel and then invite him to dinner. I think it's about time I met this boy.”
Kellen smiled with relief. “You're a great mom, you know that?”
“I try.” She gave him an affectionate smile. “Now, since you're here, why don't you start taking the folding upstairs for me?”
“Sure.”

Kellen felt relieved after talking to his mother. Maybe falling in love with another guy wasn't such a bad thing. The more he thought about it, the more he came to realize that he was being a coward by not telling Zach how he felt. He was letting his fear of other people's opinions dictate his behavior. He decided he was going to be a better person than that, no matter what happened.
So he arrived at school on Monday fully intending to tell Zach the truth. But when he saw Zach in their econ class, sudden apprehension swamped his courage. All he could manage was a half-smile and a nod of greeting. And in swimming, he couldn't bring himself to approach Zach at all. Some of the other guys were watching Zach swim and whispering among themselves in a way that Kellen didn't like. Their behavior would have worried him more if they didn't have practice after swim class, but Zach would be long gone by the time the rest of them got sent to the locker room. Zach didn't seem to notice it. He continued to swim his laps.
“Ok guys, listen up!” Coach shouted at the end of the period. “I've got to take my wife's car into the shop today, so practice is cancelled. That means I expect more work out of you tomorrow, understand?”
“Yes, Coach!” they chorused.
“Remember, this Thursday is the last meet of the regular season. Win this one and we make the division finals. You want that, right?”
“Yeah!”
“Good. Hit the showers and I'll see you tomorrow.”
Everyone bustled into the locker room. Some of the guys took off immediately and Kellen left quickly too. But he waited outside for Zach. He was determined to talk to him. He rehearsed what he planned to say while he waited.
“Man, this is hard!” he muttered to himself. “It's like trying to come up with the perfect pick-up line. And for a guy I'm already fucking. Geez, I'm pathetic!” He went over the words again and again, until he suddenly realized that he'd been standing there a long time. “What the hell is keeping Zach?” he wondered and then he suddenly remembered the looks the other guys had been giving him. “Shit!” Kellen dashed back into the locker room.

Zach walked through the locker room quickly, his towel slung over his shoulder. Normally, he enjoyed taking a shower after swimming so he could check out the jocks (discretely, of course), but since the rumors started about him and Kellen, he had been avoiding it. He hoped no one would really notice. A lot of guys didn't shower after swimming. But as he turned out of the aisle to head toward the exit, Adam Hastert, one of the best swimmers on the team and the team captain, stepped into his path.
“Leaving already, Zach? Aren't you gonna shower?”
Zach tried to step around him. “I'm in a hurry today.”
“That's funny,” someone spoke from behind him, “I thought fags liked looking at naked guys.”
Adam shifted sideways, blocking Zach's path and forcing him to stop.
Zach sighed. “Only when the guys are worth looking at,” he replied without making eye contact.
“So you admit you're a fag,” Adam leaned toward him.
Zach had to resist the urge to take a step backward. “It's none of your business either way.” He frowned at Adam. “I said I was in a hurry. Would you mind getting out of my way?”
“That's kind of rude,” said the speaker behind him.
Zach now recognized the voice as that of George Hall. He turned slightly and discovered that George was not alone. Jeff McCarthy stood beside him, a half-smirk on his face.
“I hear you've been keeping Kellen pretty happy,” Jeff remarked. “Seeing as how we're all members of the swim team, maybe you could do the same for us.” He rubbed his hand on the front of his Speedo suggestively. He stepped forward and so did George, forcing Zach to step back against the end of the lockers.
Adam planted a hand next to Zach's head and leaned in close. “Yeah. We could all use a little relief, if you know what I mean.”
Zach opened his mouth to make a retort, but he was interrupted before he could speak.
“What's up, guys?”
Zach stared past George's shoulder in surprise to see Kellen standing there with his arms crossed, regarding the group expressionlessly.
Adam pushed away from the locker with a half-sheepish grin. “We were just having a little chat with our buddy Zach, here.”
“I see,” Kellen said flatly. He lifted his chin slightly. “Maybe I should mention that if Zach gets hurt and anyone remembers seeing you guys in here, the whole swim team could get suspended while they investigate.”
The three jocks shifted uncomfortably.
“What are you trying to say?” Adam said defensively. “We weren't doing anything.”
“I didn't say you were.” Kellen continued to stare at them without expression.
Abruptly, Jeff turned away. “I gotta shower.” He marched briskly down the aisle toward the showers.
“Me too,” George echoed and he hurried after Jeff.
Kellen regarded Adam silently.
Adam stared back at him with his hands on his hips. “So what are you doing here? I thought you left already.”
Kellen shrugged. “I forgot something.”
Adam glanced from Kellen to Zach and back to Kellen again. “Yeah, right,” he muttered and headed for the showers.
Kellen and Zach didn't speak until they were outside.
“So what did you forget?” Zach asked casually.
“You,” Kellen answered shortly. “I was waiting for you and I got worried when you didn't come out.”
“Waiting… for me?” Zach stared at him.
“I overheard some of the guys talking earlier,” Kellen said shortly. “I was afraid someone might try something.”
“Oh.” Zach ran his fingers through his hair. “You know, I don't think they would have hurt me. I think they just wanted to get blown.”
“I don't care!” Kellen snapped. He stopped abruptly with his fists clenched. “I don't want you blowing other guys!”
“Kellen…” Zach stopped and studied Kellen's face. He looked angry and upset. “It's not like I'm inexperienced. I've done it with a lot of guys.”
“I know that!” Kellen wouldn't meet his eyes. “It's just… I…” He fell silent, staring at the ground. “I don't like thinking about you being with other guys,” he finished quietly. “I really care about you.”
Zach's breath caught in his throat. “Kellen…” he whispered. He had to swallow a few times to get his voice to work. “I'm trying so hard not to fall in love with you. When you say things like that…”
“Why are you trying?” Kellen interrupted. “Why should only one of us be in love?” He finally looked up and met Zach's eyes.
For a moment, Zach's heart stopped beating. The uncertain, hopeful, lost look in Kellen's eyes shredded what was left of his resistance. “Oh god!” he whispered. The need to kiss Kellen right then was nearly overwhelming. Every ounce of his willpower was tied up in forcing himself to stand there and not openly embrace Kellen and shower his handsome face and lips with kisses.
Kellen abruptly reached out and caught his hand. “Let's go. We need to talk privately.”
Zach didn't resist as Kellen half-dragged him home.
Kellen didn't speak until they were inside Zach's house. But as soon as the front door was closed, Kellen turned to face him with an intent expression. “Zach, I've been thinking a lot about what's going on between us.” He blinked uncertainly. “I think… I think I've been lying to myself.” He met Zach's eyes squarely. “I think I've been in love with you from the very beginning.”
“Kellen,” Zach rasped, “you shouldn't say something like that unless you're really sure. Sex can't make a guy turn gay.”
Instead of answering, Kellen embraced him and kissed him deeply. Zach gave up. He'd been fighting the sweetness of Kellen's kisses all along and he just couldn't do it anymore. Nothing was as wonderful as being held in Kellen's arms and tasting his kiss. He kissed back, completely lost in the pleasure of it.
Kellen pulled his mouth away. “I don't want to pretend anymore, Zach. I love you. I don't want to see anyone else. I want to be your boyfriend.”
Tears sprang into Zach's eyes. He hid his face against Kellen's muscular chest. “I don't believe it!” he whispered. “I've been in love with you from the very first day I saw you. Having sex with you was a dream come true. I never believed… I would never let myself believe that you might…” He fell silent and the tears slid down his cheeks.
Kellen hugged him close. “Let's go to bed. I want to be with you right now.” He turned Zach and walked with him down the hall to Zach's bedroom. They stared into each other's eyes as they undressed. But when Zach started to reach for the desk drawer where he kept the condoms, Kellen stopped him with a light touch on his arm.
“Let's not use a condom this time. I want you to come inside me.”
Zach stared. “Kellen…” he whispered.
Kellen took his hand and pulled him toward the bed. “I want to feel your bare skin against mine. I want to feel your cum running out of me.”
Zach decided to stop thinking. He had clearly fallen into an alternate universe where all of his dreams could come true. He let Kellen pull him onto the bed and lay down between his spread legs. Kellen embraced him, kissing him warmly.
“Take me,” Kellen whispered in his ear. “Make me your one and only lover.”
Zach closed his eyes with a joyful cry. He moved his hips, pressing the head of his erect penis against Kellen's anus. They hadn't put in any lubricant, but Zach's leaking cock quickly took care of that. He went slowly, working his natural lubrication in to help moisten Kellen. Kellen moaned softly, his breath warming the side of Zach's face. They fucked slowly at first, savoring the delicious feel of Zach's bare penis inside Kellen's body. But as their excitement grew, they began moving faster, thrusting against each other eagerly, gasping with pleasure as they drove each other to the brink of ecstasy and beyond. Orgasm captured them simultaneously and they cried out together, sharing their climax.
“I love you, Kellen,” Zach whispered breathlessly.
“I love you, too.” Kellen kissed him gently on the lips. “But now that I've had you the way no one else has, I want to be the only one who gets to have you from now on.” His cheeks were flushed and he regarded Zach a little uncertainly.
Zach smiled. “I don't think that will be a problem. I haven't been able to think about anyone but you for weeks anyway.”
Kellen stroked his fingers through Zach's hair, a relieved expression on his face. “I'm really happy I met you.”
“I'm really happy you asked me to help you with your homework. I would never have had the courage to approach you on my own.”
“You had the courage to ask me to pay you with sex,” Kellen pointed out.
“Well…” Zach grinned. “I wasn't actually serious. I expected you to say no. I would have helped you anyway. I was really smitten with you, you know.”
“What?! You mean I didn't have to fuck you to get help on that assignment?” Kellen stared at him in astonishment.
“No, but I am really glad you didn't realize that.”
Kellen shook his head and laughed at himself. “I don't believe it. I end up having an affair with another guy because I was too stupid to realize I was being teased.”
“Pretty much,” Zach nodded.
“Man, you owe me big time for that!” Kellen exclaimed. He smacked Zach on the butt. “Start moving. I expect to be swimming in cum in the next hour.”
Zach laughed and embraced him. “As you command, lover!” He started moving, letting the delightful sensation of Kellen's tight anus sliding over his penis get him hard again. “But you only get half-an-hour. I'm making a beef roast for dinner tonight and I have to start preparing it at four.”
“That sounds good. Can I stay for dinner?”
“Yeah, but my parents will suspect we're dating.”
“That's all right. I already told my mom we were.”
“You did what?!”
“And she expects you to have dinner with us sometime this week.”
“You want me to meet your parents?”
“Of course. You're my boyfriend. Our parents have to know about us if we're planning to start going out publicly.”
Zach stopped in mid-thrust. “P… publicly?”
Kellen tipped his head to one side. “Embarrassed to be seen with me in public?”
“Are you serious?”
“Completely.”
“You really are in love with me!” Zach declared in a choked voice.
Kellen laughed and nodded. “Yes, I really am in love with you.” He kissed Zach. “Now keep going. That was starting to feel really good.”
Zach slipped his hands under Kellen's shoulders and started moving again. His heart was singing. Kellen loved him! He snuggled his face against Kellen's shoulder. “I'm really happy!”
“So am I.” Kellen arched his back with a soft sigh. “It's kind of a relief to finally admit how I feel. It's weird that it was harder to say the words to myself than to you.”
“Will you mind saying it to me every day?”
“Not if you promise to say it back.”
“I will!” Zach's joy mingled with his desire as he moved inside Kellen. He was making love with his boyfriend! It was not a phrase he had expected to apply to himself, certainly not with someone like Kellen. He wasn't sure if it was the absence of the condom or the unbridled happiness in his heart that made Kellen feel so good, but at the moment, he could not remember a time when Kellen had felt better to him. His deep tight anus clung to Zach's penis, swallowing it eagerly when he plunged in and releasing it reluctantly when he pulled back. Kellen's hot breath rushed against his face as he panted with excitement in response to Zach's deep thrusts. Zach kept moving in him until Kellen bucked up against him and cried out with joy. He rocked wildly, gasping helplessly as climax filled him. His body clenched tight on Zach's penis and sudden orgasm made Zach's mind go blank. His cock exploded with pleasure and he came, shooting cum into Kellen's body. They held onto each other, shaking and trembling as satisfaction flooded them.
“Oh, that was good!” Kellen gasped. “I love being with you, Zach.”
Zach could only nod. He was out of words to express how happy he was.
Kellen stroked his hair. “I do regret one thing, though.”
“Oh?” Zach tried to keep the worry out of his voice.
“I'm sorry I cheated on you.”
Zach blinked in surprise. “We weren't dating then.”
“Still…” Kellen kissed his cheek. “It won't happen again.”
Zach nodded. “I'll quit the computer club.”
Kellen grinned. “So we're going to date each other exclusively?”
“Looks that way.”
“Good.”
Zach glanced at the clock. “Oops. It's time for me to start dinner. You can take a shower while I get things started.”
“I don't want to take a shower,” Kellen pouted. “I want to smell like you.”
“Kellen, I think we should break my parents in gently. We can tell them we're in love first. Later on, we can let them figure out we're fucking.”
“Oh, fine!”
Zach pulled on his jeans while Kellen went into the bathroom. But before he could leave the room, Kellen stuck his head back through the bathroom door. “Say, Zach?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you think this is gonna work?”
Zach paused for a moment and then he gave Kellen a big smile. “Yeah, it's gonna work, because you're the greatest guy I've ever met.”
Kellen grinned back. “So are you, Zach. So are you.”
-o- The End -o-
That's the end of the story for now! I may write more about the boys later; perhaps when they start college. But in the meantime, I'll let them live happily ever after. Until next time, thanks for reading!
