Chapter Three
The First Slaying
and The Dream
The demon roared at me and then with one swing of its claw it knocked me into a tree. I felt my ribs break as I hit the tree trunk. I fell to the ground in a heap. I struggled to get up as the demon, which was fifty feet away, started to walk over to me. I got to my feet and started running. I was sure that the demon could have caught me in a second but it was toying with me. I ran and ran but I could hear the demon at the edge of my hearing. Then I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my back as the demon pounced on me. I fell to the ground again and felt the demon claw my back. I saw a stick nearby and grabbed it. I swung it as hard as I could into the demons skull. I knocked the demon off my back and got up again and ran. As I ran I could hear the demon following behind me. I fell up against a tree and tried to catch my breath but the demon kept coming after me.
I stood up again and started to run away from the demon again towards a cave I found when I was younger. When I found it I could hear the demon crashing through the under brush just out of sight so I slid down into the entrance. The cave was about five by five by five in dimensions and was entered via a vertical hole in the ceiling that was hidden from view by a bush and covered by a plywood board. As I rested I could hear the demon snarling and growling as it crashed through the undergrowth looking for me. All I could think of were my friends. I hoped they were alright. Than my mind started to wonder where the demons came from and what they wanted. I stayed till my head stopped spinning and got ready to leave again. The only thing I could think to do way out here was to find the old building that was out here and get my wooden sword.

As I climbed out of the hole I could still hear the demon searching for me so I started to sneak away. SNAP! I stepped on a twig and I heard the demons bellow of triumph as it crashed out of a bush to my left. I started to run again, weaving my way around trees so that the demon couldn't pounce on me I felt my lungs start to ache and a stitch grow in my side. The rain was still falling but the lightning had stopped as I ran feeling the burn of the rain drops as the hit my torn back. As I turned back to see if the demon was still following me I tripped over some exposed tree roots and fell into a tree with a head sized hole in it. That*s when I got an idea. I stood facing the oncoming demon with my back to the tree and waited.

When the demon came racing out of the bushes and saw me it roared and pounced I knew I had only one shot and quickly dodged to the right. As the demons claws passed me I felt them rip through my upper arm causing me to yell in pain. But my plan worked as I saw the demons head was jammed in the hole and as the demon struggled desperately to extract its skull from the tree I continued to run towards the derelict building. As I ran I felt the rain slowly stop and as I entered a meadow where the building was located I looked up and saw that the stars were out. I didn*t realize it at the time but the constellation Draco was directly overhead. That*s when I saw it. I had passed through this meadow a thousand times and had never seen it before but standing right in the middle of the meadow was a towering pillar of stone. Atop the towering pillar was a flat space that had a large boulder resting near the edge. But I didn*t investigate anymore and continued on towards the building. When I reached it I found that in the month since I had last visited it the building had collapsed. I had just started to rummage around in the rubble when I heard an enormous CRACK! I looked back across the meadow and saw a tree fall to the ground and heard the demons furious roars as it crashed through the undergrowth to get me. I began to search frantically for the wooden sword and had just found it when the demon leapt out into the meadow. I turned to look at it and slowly raised my sword. The demon snarled at me and started to walk forward. As I waited I began to focus on my lessons at the dojo on the best way to defeat a foe much stronger than yourself. Suddenly the demon leapt at me. I sidestepped to the left and bought my sword down on the demons back. I felt my arms ache on the impact. The demon hissed when it landed and turned back towards me. This time it rushed me with its claws raised to slash at my stomach. As the demon approached I slashed downward at its left arm and heard the bone break but the demon struck with its right arm slashing me across the face and then rebounding back to its starting position. I felt warm fluid run down my face as I ran towards the stone pillar. When I reached the pillar I noticed many hand holds that seemed to go to the very top of the pillar. But what drew my attention was a small silver ring sitting on a ledge that was at face height, I completely forgot about the demon and reached out to take the ring. That*s when the demon tackled me, smashing me into the stone pillar and causing my finger to brush up against the ring. I immediately felt my whole body start to burn; it felt like I was being burned alive but not on fire. It lasted less than a second and when it was over I felt that the injuries I had received were healed. I pushed off the stone pillar and spun around to strike the demon across the chest. The demon roared in agony as my sword a large black bruise across the belly and stumbled back a few steps. But it only lasted a second before the demon roared with rage and leaped at me once again smashing me into the pillar and breaking three ribs and my left arm. I cried out in pain and kicked the demon in the chest. The demon was knocked to the ground and I started to climb up the side of the pillar. I was half way up when I felt the demon land on my back and once more start to tear at my flesh. I yelled and shook myself like a dog, the demon fell off and I heard it land on the ground with a thud that was followed by a cracking sound as its leg broke. I resumed my climb upward and when I looked down I saw the demon was less than three feet below me. It reached up and grabbed me by the ankle and started to savagely pull me down. I felt my ankle dislocate as I kicked the demon in the head till it let go and started to climb again. When I reached the top I leaned up against the boulder to rest for a second. I was startled when I felt the boulder move, but it gave me an Idea leaning up against a small protrusion of rock I wedged my sword underneath the boulder and started to push down on the sword, using it like a lever. I could hear the demon nearing the top and knew that I would be dead if the demon reached the top so with the last of my strength I pushed down on the sword. The boulder rolled over the edge of the pillar and fell down atop the demon. I heard the demon utter one last roar of rage before the boulder landed with a horrible crunch. Than I blacked out.

When I opened my eyes I was in a cave. I looked around and saw the rest of the demons there holding on tightly to my friends with the exception of Alyx. All of my friends were unconscious except for Erik who was struggling with his demon. I tried to call out to him but I couldn't open my mouth and that*s when I realized I was dreaming.
*You better tell these ugly things to let me go or I*ll beat your face to a bloody pulp.* Erik yelled at the top of his voice. I didn*t know who he was talking to until a short figure in a black cape moved into my field of vision.

*I see you still retain that ever charming vocabulary Norseman.* It said in a sinister voice. The figure lowered his hood. He had red hair and his face was almost featureless. He had almost no nose and his skin was pale and looked like it was stretched to tight on his flesh. He started to pace across the cave smiling to reveal several serrated teeth in his mouth.
*You know what? I*ll have to rethink my opinion of these things that you have holding us. They*re beauty queens compared to you! What happened? You put a plastic bag on your head for so long it became part of your face!* Erik yelled.
*Norseman you are trying my patience. If you do not cooperate than you will be severely punished...* the figure said viciously.
*Good than I*m doing my job you ugly turd!* Erik yelled.
The figure raised a clawed hand and snapped his fingers. A bolt of electricity came from out of nowhere and electrocuted my friends. It lasted for less than a second and when it stopped the figure started to cackle cruelly. Than he suddenly stopped laughing and stared intently into Erik*s eyes. Erik simply glared at the man.
*HA so you like this one* the figure said gesturing towards Corey *Perhaps you*d be more cooperative if I torture her instead.*
*If you so much as lay a finger on Corey I swear that I*ll kill you in the most painful way possible!* Erik said furiously.
This caused the hooded figure to laugh again. It was a cold, heartless laugh that chilled me to the core.
*I*d love to see you try, Norseman.* It said.
The figure snapped his fingers again and the lightning again appeared but this time it only struck Corey. Corey started to scream and writhe even though she remained unconscious. This lasted for well over ten minutes all the while Erik was swearing at the figure to stop in a variety of colorful and vulgar ways. Erik threatened the figure repeatedly but to no avail the figure was enjoying watching the young woman being tortured. Finally the figure snapped its fingers again and the lightning stopped. Erik looked at the figure furiously and grumbled something under his breath.
*What was that Norseman? I didn*t quite hear you. Maybe another dose of torture is required to make you speak up.* the figure said in a maniacally cruel voice.

*I said,* Erik growled *that I*ll cooperate you vicious bastard.*
*Goooood...* the figure said in a pleased voice. Than the figure looked directly at Erik which caused Erik to start screaming in agony as long red cuts started to appear all over his body. The figure started to laugh again and snapped his fingers. The lightning struck Erik only which caused even louder screams of pain as Erik started to struggle against the demon holding him.
That*s when I awoke.
