Chapter One: Reincarnated in 2006

 

Ryleigh sighed happily to herself, arms behind her head and eyes closed as she lay on the soft grass. She knew it was a dream; in reality, the air was clogged with the smoke from cars and factories, and the grass had never been this soft to her knowledge.

 

Her ears caught the sound of clashing blades, and she opened her eyes while sitting up, glancing in the direction of the noises. Not far away, two blonde elves sparred in the backyard of a large manor, one female and one male. Standing, Ryleigh brushed herself off before striding towards the two, leaning against the manors wall and watching the two hack away at each other.

 

They didn't notice her; in fact, Ryleigh had become aware that she was never so much a part of her dream as she was a spectator of it. Her attention focused on the elves once more when the female knocked the male to the ground, laughing at him when he let out an exhausted sigh and let his head lol back onto the hay behind him.

 

Ryleigh laughed when the female poked the male with her toe, saying “Oh come on Sibel, you should be better at this then me.” The male let out a groan, not looking at the girl.

 

“Keyword, Preia, should be.” The elf that Ryleigh already knew to be Preia laughed, then turned emerald eyes on Ryleigh.

 

“Ryleigh…” The woman blinked, seeing her surroundings becoming blurry.

 

“Ryleigh…” Waiting till everything was black; Ryleigh closed her eyes, wishing she didn't have to leave the dream so soon.

“Ryleigh!” The blonde knew that she had woken up when she heard her room mate call her name and felt her shake her shoulder, groaning and simply rolling away from the girls reach.

 

“Go away,” she muttered into the material of her pillow, now awake but dreading removing herself from her soft sheets and pillow.

 

Mmm, comfy bed…

 

Kayley sighed, throwing her arms up in surrender and heading to the front door of the apartment when the door bell rang.

 

Ryleigh snuggled back down into her comfy pillows and blankets, ignoring the fact that it was still quite warm and just basking in the comfort that her bed gave to her. Her ears twitched when she heard the distinct sound of Nathaniel's voice coming from the front door, but her bed was just so comfy that she couldn't bring herself to care at the moment.

 

“She still in bed?” she heard him ask, Kayley more then likely shaking her head in reply.

 

“You got it.” Nathaniel sighed, peaking Ryleigh's interest.

 

“Darn, I was hoping she was awake, too,” he paused dramatically, and Ryleigh twitched slightly, “I even brought coffee.”

 

“Coffee?” Ryleigh perked instantly, sitting up only to be pushed back down by a pillow to the face, “Hey!”

 

“Oh so now you're willing to get up,” Kayley grumbled, swatting at Nathaniel when he laughed.

 

Ryleigh simply grinned, jumping from her bed and racing through the door and after Nathaniel, who had now decided it would be funny to make her run for her coffee.

 

Ryleigh pounced onto his back, taking a piggyback style position and reaching down towards the ice cap that she knew was meant for her.

 

“Pleeeeaaaassse Nathaniel?” she whined, leaning around so he could see her face and pouting at him. The male rolled his eyes, handing her the ice cap and shaking his head when Ryleigh squealed in joy and jumped off his back.

 

“I see you're as stylish as always,” she commented after taking a sip of her ice cap, blue and green eyes showing that she was finally awake. For as long as she could remember, she and Nathaniel had always been like siblings, and for just as long, she'd never seen him wear anything less then the most popular designer labels he could find. His choice today was a pair of light washed polo jeans, an aquamarine oxford shirt, and a pair of Mizuno runners.

 

Blonde hair perfectly in place and grey eyes sparkling with mischief, Ryleigh knew he was ready and waiting to find his next girlfriend, and simply rolled her eyes at the prospect.

 

“So, we going or are you planning on being unfashionably late for the first day of class, Ryleigh Owen?” Grinning at her friends, Ryleigh downed the last of her ice cap and skipped backwards into her bedroom.

 

“Gimme ten minutes!” she called before closing the door and diving into her wardrobe, reappearing said amount of minutes later with her blue carrier bag hooked over her shoulder. Nathaniel raised his eyebrow at his `sister's choice of clothing, having to admit that she had a good sense of style for the 100th time since he'd met her.

 

“Zellers?” he asked teasingly, plucking at the cream sleeves that peeped out from under the blue printed tee she was wearing, Ryleigh once more rolling her eyes and swatting his hand away.

 

“Fair Weather, dork,” she replied, following after Kayley with Nathaniel on their heels.

 

“The jeans Fair Weather, too?”

 

“Zellers, Nathan, and before you ask, the shoes are from Walmart.” Nathaniel huffed, both girls laughing as they headed downstairs and started walking towards campus.

 

After about ten minutes of walking, Nathanial suddenly ran his hand through a bit of Ryleigh's hair, scrutinizing it.

 

“How can you manage this?” he asked, the blonde blinking un-matching eyes at him.

 

“Manage what?”

 

“This.” He held the bit of hair in front of her face “You never brush your hair in the morning, yet it always looks perfectly messy.” Ryleigh shrugged, shaking her head so that he would let go of her hair, platinum streaked honey blonde strands flying.

 

“I donno, just goes that was naturally I guess,” she shrugged again, blowing a stray strand from her face.

 

Nathaniel went to respond, but was distracted by two girls walking by, throwing them a wink and a grin before continuing to walk. Kayley and Ryleigh glanced at each other and sighed, rolling their eyes.

 

Some things would never change.
