"Is there a specific reason why?" Rinsi asked.
Rinsi couldn't understand why he had done it, but she figured something had happened. Maybe he had done it in self defense, or perhaps it was an accident. She wanted to believe this, but she couldn't be sure until Tahtsu told her everything about it.
"R-rinsi. You need to leave. I did it on purpose. I murdered her!" he spat at her, his tone of voice had no hint of regret of his decision.
"I need to just be alone for a while," he said softly as he finally met her gaze.
"I need to see my family, I'll be gone for a while..." his voice trailed off.
"I hope you can understand and forgive me," he said before wrapping one arm around her lower waist and dipping her as he pressed his lips to hers.
"I-" he stopped and stared at her before continuing.
"I love you," he said as he kissed her cheek a final time. With that, he turned to leave into the forest.
Rinsi frowned, quite possibly for the first time that year, when she heard he was leaving. She didn't understand anything at this point, except his final words to her. She wanted so badly to go with him! But by the same token she knew that if she tried to go with him, to force her help on him, it would likely cause him to hate her. Thus she resigned herself, and kissed him back when he kissed her.
"I love you too, Tahtsu, and I already forgive you. Just give me all the details when you get back. And please, stay safe."
Yumi stole a quick glance out the window in the few moments before Kai tore the wall apart. Covering her face and chest with her hands, she backed up to the window, peeking around her fingers to see Kai's shadows shooting at her. They slowed just a bit as Nakya stole his attention, it appeared. Placing one palm flat on the windowpane, Yumi tried to concentrate, focusing energy into the window. She was rattled, and barely understood Kai's words as he spoke to Nakya.
Get them... apart? What are they talking about? Does he mean... Ichio... and Me?
Yumi's adrenaline-shocked brain wouldn't process the information. It didn't make sense. Another fleeting glance at the two across the room showed Nakya kissing Kai, and Yumi felt a lump in her throat stop her breathing.
“No. No.... "NO!" She screamed, pulling her palm from the window, molding the glass to her hand before shooting it forward, the glass turning to deadly shards as it left her fingertips.
Without bothering to see if any of her shots connected, Yumi turned and hopped onto the sill, energizing it so she could leap high enough to grab the next floor's windowsill. She had to get away. It was too much for her.
Ichio wrestled with himself in the back of Yumi's mind. She was fighting for her life, and he could do nothing but laugh. He returned his attention to Yumi's exterior thoughts as she leapt. It was Nakya, kissing Kai. He felt his heart drop. He'd done this. All of it was his fault, the fighting, Nakya, Yumi's anger, everything. Ichio tried desperately to pull himself together, to make some sort of move, with little accomplishment.
Nakya turned to look at Yumi as she heard her yelling. Watching the shards of glass fly their way, Nakya ran out of the way, pulling Kai with her. Turning her attention back to Yumi, she watched as she jumped out the window.
"Kai! Now look what happened! The body won’t be here for another two hours!" she exclaimed.
She felt desperate. She needed to get them back. Running over to the broken window, Nakya looked out and saw Yumi hanging from the window sill above them. Panic rose in her throat. If she was able to get away, then Nakya wouldn't be able to help either of them. Her eyes grew wide at the thought.
"Yumi! Hold on!"
Running down the hall and up the stairs, Nakya ran down the second floor pausing momentarily at the windows, trying to see where Yumi was. Seeing Yumi's fingers clinging to the window sill, Nakya flung up the window and reached out, grabbing her wrists.
"Yumi! I need you to help me now okay? I'll get you inside and then we'll talk."
Bracing her feet, Nakya began pulling.
As Yumi clung to the sill, trying miserably to find a decent foothold, she realized what a horrible mistake she'd made in climbing. She would have been better off if she'd simply hopped out the window and started running. The anger in her mind was still strong, and when she felt hands on her wrists, she heard little of Nakya's words. Scrambling up, she didn't refuse the help, though as soon as she knew she wouldn't fall, she shook her hands out of Nakya's. Her heart was beating faster and faster.
"Why should I help you? You're in on it! You're all trying to kill me!" She yelled, backing as far as she could, until flakes of paint fell from the old sill under pressure.
Nakya let out a sigh of relief as Yumi moved onto safer ground. Hearing her outburst, Nakya stared blankly at Yumi.
"Who the hell is trying to kill you, Yumi?!" she exclaimed.
She really didn't want to be dealing with this right now.
"I swear to god Yumi, if you don't calm down, I'll put you to sleep again."
She turned her gaze to Yumi, her eyes seeming as if they were made of ice.
"Nobody is trying to kill you, except maybe, you. So just calm down alright?!"
Nakya could feel her anger growing - that was never good.
Yumi barely held her ground as Nakya's eyes bored into her. The lump in her throat grew larger and her heart seemed to be nearly beating out of her chest.
"Calm. Down?" she laughed stiffly. "You're telling me to calm down, after that son of a B***** you've got for a boyfriend attacks me again without warning?" Yumi felt her face flush.
Nakya's eyes narrowed at Yumi's comment.
"I can't control him Yumi. What he does, he does on his own. I didn't tell him to attack you!" she exclaimed.
Taking a step closer to her, her expression softened slightly.
"Yumi, please. Calm down. Let's go sit and talk okay? Just you and me?"
Nakya gave Yumi a small, sincere smile to show she was telling the truth.
Yumi's heart felt fit to bursting. Her face was turning a deep crimson, from both her anger and something else she couldn't quite place.
"Stay away from me." She whispered quietly as Nakya came closer. "I have no wish to speak with you. There is no point." She said, leaning farther out the window.
If she tried, she could probably make it to the ground running, and escape before anything else happened. She hesitated a moment, looking down at her feet.
Seeing Yumi lean farther out the window, Nakya leaned forward and grabbed her hand, pulling. At the same time, she closed her eyes, searching for the same memory that put her to sleep last time. Searching for what felt like hours, but was only seconds, Nakya's mind began tugging on that. A slight grunt escaped from her lips as she pulled both physically and mentally. She could only hope this would work.
Yumi felt her skin jump when Nakya took her hand.
"No. Don't touch me." She whispered, feeling the world spin.
There was a twitch in the back of her mind. Nakya was trying to bring up that memory again. The jail. That man.
No. I won't let you. Stop. Please, make it stop! she thought at Nakya, not caring if she heard or not. Her breath become labored.
You're fighting a losing battle now. I'm in full control of my home territory, with no other opposition..
She continued, focusing on her hand in Nakya's.
"I told you. Don't come near me." She whispered, pushing the pain Nakya inflicted down her hand and into that of Nakya's. Hopefully that would make her let go, so she could escape.
Hearing Yumi's thoughts, Nakya ignored them. Feeling the pain transfer into her hand, Nakya let out a sharp scream but didn't let go.
'I'm not letting you hurt him anymore Yumi. Hurt me all you want, but leave him alone." Tears began rolling down Nakya's face as she pulled harder on the memory.
Yumi's breath hitched again as Nakya tugged even harder on the memory.
"NO!" She screamed, falling to her knees.
She could hardly breathe. Her free hand latched onto Nakya's, holding it tight as she fought against unconsciousness. Summoning her strength, Yumi focused on a song, a smile creeping on her lips as she worked her way through the lyrics. Her eyes turned to Nakya's face, a taunting pain contorting her face.
You've never tried to understand anything my way, have you? She asked in her mind, still singing.
Nakya tried to ignore Yumi as she began singing.
''You never gave me a chance, did you?! You just constantly cut Ichio down. I'm doing this to help both of you, Yumi. I care about both of you.' Nakya said, hearing her words.
Nakya pulled once more on the memory, before the connection broke. She collapsed to the floor in pain. She could only hope that the last tug had worked. She tried to move, but the pain throughout her body was too strong.
Tears of pain and what she'd finally recognized as sorrow streamed down Yumi's face as she fought for consciousness.
"Never gave you a chance? As if." She whispered as Nakya collapsed, finally breaking Yumi's concentration.
The memory came in slow motion. Standing, Yumi backed away, forgeting she was on the windowsill.
When I followed you... I wanted to prove myself wrong. I wanted proof that I could trust you.
She wasn't trying to tell anything to Nakya, she was simply reminding herself. Her body was going into something akin to shock, it seemed. It moved on its own, continually moving back from Nakya as she lay on the floor.
What Ichio felt was nothing. I'm the one who told him to go ahead. I knew from the start that you wouldn't want me. You only wanted him. So I tried to make him the bad guy. That obviously backfired. You always wanted him, never me. I was just the vessel to you. Nothing more.
The tears came faster now, and she was now hovering with her toes on the sill, shaking her head pitifully at Nakya as she laid on the ground in pain. She wanted to go to her, wanted to hold her and make sure everything was okay, that she'd be okay. Her body wouldn't move, it had become its own master. Yumi felt energy compounding on her body, weighing it down.
"Nakya."
She whispered low, unable to speak louder. Her voice was emotional, close to cracking. The energy pushed her back, down, forcing her toward the ground.
"I loved you."
She managed, just in time. Yumi's head snapped back, eyes staring soullessly at the sky as a small gasp escaped her lips. She leaned back, falling towards the ground. It wasn't far, only two stories, but if she landed on her back, she'd most likely die.
Yumi! Yumi! YUMI! Ichio screamed in her head, though she could not reply. She felt suspended, trapped somewhere in between consciousness and dreams. Adrift in her painful sea, Yumi did not react as Ichio forced his way to the surface, taking over the body.
I won't let us die, even if you don't care.
Clothes ripped and cartilage tore and reformed as Ichio emerged. Landing heavily on his hands and feet in a crouch, Ichio fell to his knees, tears falling steadily down his face.
You're such an idiot, Yumi. How could you not tell me? It's my fault, isn't it? He asked in his head, receiving no answer.
As Nakya lay on the floor, still paralyzed from the pain, she couldn't disconnect her thoughts from Yumi's. She laid there, listening to what she was saying. As Yumi's words sunk in, Nakya felt her heart breaking all over again. She had no clue Yumi had liked her. And.. Ichio.. had never cared for her..? A wave of nausea hit Nakya as feeling came back to her body.
''Yumi.. I didn't know.. I'm sorry.." she said, her voice no louder than a whisper.
Seeing Yumi fall backwards, a muted scream left her mouth. Pushing herself up, she struggled over to the window. Reaching it, she leaned heavily on the window sill. Looking out, she saw Ichio on the ground. Seeing him, after hearing Yumi's words, a sorrow filled scream escaped her mouth. Her knees gave out and she collapsed to the floor in a sobbing heap. Everything that happened last year, it was all for nothing. He had lied to her. Ki'iro was the same as Yumi. He probably didn't care either, it was actually Kai. As the realization of everything hit her, she let her head drop as she sobbed. Her body was shaking with pain and sadness in a corner on the floor.
Kai's body tensed as Nakya had kissed him. And although a scene was unfolding before him, he didn't care. His temper flared, and he near charged at Nakya. But before he could, a booming voice shouted in his head.
"Kai! Later! We have to do this later! I gave you your time! Now cooperate and let me back," Ki'iro hissed. Rolling his eyes, Kai laughed and agreed.
"Fine, have your filthy girlfriend back," he laughed again as he faded into the back of their mind and Ki'iro emerged. Running over to Nakya, he wrapped his arms around her quickly.
"Nakya! Nakya! Are you...are you alright? I-I..I'm so sorry. Ichio..." he couldn't even bring himself to look at him, so he just turned and stared in the opposite direction.
Hearing footsteps running down the hall towards her, Nakya didn't even try and look up. She hurt so much. She was so weak. Feeling Ki'iro's arms go around her as he spoke to her, she snapped.
''Don't touch me! You're just like them! You don't mean it either!"
Her voice had taken on an almost hysterical scream. She pushed Ki'iro away with all the strength she had left. Her body continued shaking as her sobs increased. Everything she had ever felt, everything she had ever said, was all a joke to them. They didn't care at all. Why should she?
Ki'iro was rather taken aback, he had no idea what was wrong with her. What had he done? They had a deal. Kai would take over while the whole Yumichio thing was going on, then he would come straight back. What the hell had gotten into her?
"W-what?" he managed to stutter out as his eyes filled with tears.
"If that's how you really feel, I'll be going," he said flatly as he stood up from her and stared down at her.
"If you don't believe me, fine, that's your own decision."
Looking up at Ki'iro, she saw tears fill his eyes.
''Why are you pretending? Why do you have to be like Ichio?! He didn't care! He lied to me! It was Yumi who liked me all along! You and Kai are just like them!"
Her eyes were wide with fear and pain. Why did they have to be so similar? Why couldn't everything just be okay? Her body trembled as her fear joined her pain. She just wanted everyone to be happy. She just wanted Ki'iro to love her.
Ki'iro just stared at Nakya, his eyes burned from the tears that threatened to spill over. His temper flared as Kai nagged in the back of his mind.
"Nakya! I've been with you through a lot of shit now! And you keep pressuring me to tell you that I love you when I don't yet! I would apologize, but I have nothing to be sorry for!"
His voice threatened to crack, and a silent, hard tear rolled down his cheek.
"And you think I'm like them? What do you want me to do about it? What?" he yelled at her now, his voice echoed down the hall.
Hearing Ki'iro's words, Nakya felt as if she had been punched in the stomach. She lifted her hands to her head, both of them shaking like leaves in a windstorm. She had been so selfish. She should have never come back. Pushing herself to her feet, she stood in front of Ki'iro shakily.
''I'm sorry.. I-I'm sorry.."
Her pain and regret was evident in her voice. She began stumbling her way down the hall towards her room, bumping into Ki'iro on the way.
"You should have never come back, Nakya.. Never.." she said out loud to herself as she continued bumping into walls.
She had almost reached her door when she collapsed from exhaustion and pain. Her head hit the floor with an audible thump. Her eyes struggled to stay open as she fought unconsciousness.
Ichio knelt on the ground for a long moment, hearing nothing and seeing little more than the ground beneath his hunched form. Yumi was out cold, and wouldn't answer any of his calls or blows. He could have killed her if he'd tried. Heaven knows he wanted to. But he didn't, because he knew how true Yumi's words had been. He'd loved Nakya, yes, but Yumi's feelings were so much stronger.
How had I not seen this? How could you have hidden this from me for so long?
He leaned down onto his back, staring at the sky. Tears dripped lazily from his eyes, turning the shadows and shades of grey even blurrier. His vision had not returned, and most likely would never, until he died.
Rolling back to his stomach before standing, Ichio walked around the edge of the school, avoiding the window and hallway where Yumi and Kai had fought. Arriving in front of the school, Ichio wiped away his tears, trying to focus on the door before him.
Idiot.... He opened the door and started toward his dorm, needing a cigarette worse than ever.
Rinsi couldn't understand why he had done it, but she figured something had happened. Maybe he had done it in self defense, or perhaps it was an accident. She wanted to believe this, but she couldn't be sure until Tahtsu told her everything about it.
