Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ The Gifted Moon Academy ❯ More Fighting ( Chapter 28 )

Ki'iro had gone out to the front of the school and done some shadow training. Figuring his abilities would be needed at their highest potential, there was no harm in training them a bit more. Ki'iro sighed heavily as a thought occured to him. He couldn't beat Yumi on his own. She was insanely strong and would be near impossible to hold down. On top of that, he had to make a mental shadow barrier between the two of them? He sighed softly as he watched Yumi walk past him in a cheerful mood. "If only you knew..." he said with a smile tugging at his lips.
On his way back to Nakya's dorm, he gritted his teeth as he attempted to concentrate on the thought of Kai. He knew that Kai had defeated Yumi once already, and had tried to kill her, and would have succeeded if he hadn't restrained himself. "Kai..." he said softly outloud. "Kai, we need your...strength..." Ki'iro paused as he waited for his reply.
"My strength!? You need my strength!? Ha! Of course you do...You pathetic little-" Ki'iro cut him off as he spoke.
"We need to get this settled: We cannot be fighting like this constantly. Do you want to end up like Ichio and Yumi?" Ki'iro questioned as he took on a parental tone.
"N-no," Kai stuttered. And after a moment of thought, he replied, "Fine. I'll help. But if I want out, you best let me next time. In return, I won't put up a fight when the deed is done." Kai blocked off communication with Ki'iro, leaving no room for compromise.
After waking up, Nakya smiled softly as she stretched. Climbing out of bed, she ran a brush through her hair before leaving her room. She hummed softly as she walked through the seemingly deserted hallways. Looking down the hall, she saw Ki'iro and ran up to him, throwing her arms around his neck and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Hello sweetheart." she murmured. "Did you have fun while I slept?" She looked up at him, a playful smile on her lips.
Ki'iro smiled softly as Nakya ran up to him, but faltered when his previous thoughts returned.
"Nakya, we need to talk about this whole thing with Yumi. Not about our relationship or anything, but I've been thinking..."
He sighed heavily as he thought about how he wanted to phrase this. What was he supposed to say? Simply that he wasn't strong enough and he needed to let Kai come back out so he could hold her down? How the hell would she take that? Taking a step away from her, he breathed deeply before speaking again.
"I'm not strong enough to stop Yumi from doing anything to Ichio when we need to seperate them. There's only one person who I know that can stop her easily without any problems. He needs to come back to stop her, and we already discussed it, and he agreed to give my body back once his deed is done. So I just need you to understand, and let me do this and bring Kai back." He finished in a rush and took another step back, waiting for her reply.
Nakya tilted her head as she listened to him. A thoughtful expression crossed her face as she thought over her words.
"Well, how does he feel about me? Is he angry that you left that fling he had this summer?" she asked. "I'm okay with him coming back, as long as he'll give you your body back and he won’t try to hurt me or anyone else."
She smiled up at him as she held his hand, squeezing it gently.
Ki'iro chewed on his lower lip as he looked away from her for a second. Then, looking back, he spoke.
"I can't assure you that Kai isn't going to hurt anybody else. While he has so much power, most likely, I'm going to just be unconscious. Before I leave, I'll try to make sure he's on his best behavior..."

Yumi walked into her dorm, opening her window before lying on her bed. She pulled out a cigarette from her side table and lit it. Staring up at the ceiling, she flipped on her stereo[/url], listening with a smile at the irony of the song playing. Pulling out her mp3 player from its dock, she connected it to a set of earbuds, virtually invisible inside her ears. Continuing the song from where it left off, she put out the butt of her cigarette and walked out of her dorm, pack in hand. She made her way back downstairs, noticing a small group of people in the way. Slowing down, she pouted when she recognized Nakya and Ki'iro. It lightened as she saw Rinsi, then grew even darker when she thought about how Rinsi must feel about her and Ichio's actions. Pausing for a moment, she contemplated how to get around the group without causing a disturbance.
Tahtsu grabbed Rinsi's hand as the male walked out of the room.
Ki'iro's body tensed as he saw Yumi walking down the hall. Leaning into Nakya, he whispered in her ear.
"Yumi's here. I believe she's leaving the campus. We need to do this now,"
He sighed heavily and braced himself. Then, reaching to the corners of his mind, he called for Kai. He shoved his hands in his pockets and readied himself for Kai's attack. Well, he couldn't even consider it an attack, since he was...he couldn't believe he was letting Kai take him over willingly. But, the good thing about it would be that it wouldn't make a scene at all.
"Kai," he whispered in his mind. Although he knew Yumi couldn't hear him, he felt like she could.
"Kai, it's time now."
Ki'iro readying himself. Kai nodded and took over Ki'iro's mind like a snake; slithering his way to the corners of his mind. He gently pushed Ki'iro back into the corners of their mind, but it didn't show to anyone. Since they were on good terms about this, there was no struggle.
Kai's eyes flashed quickly as he now had complete control over the body. He shot Nakya a quick smirk, showing himself for what he was.
"Ready?" he said loudly.
Yumi looked up at the small group when Ki'iro moved into Nakya's side. She was still with him? That was good. Maybe she'd gotten through to Ki'iro/Kai after all. A smirk slid across her face, replaced with a confused frown as she caught the last part of Ki'iro's words.
Do what now? She thought, tensing as she watched Ki'iro's muscles brace.
She took a step backwards, not sure what was happening. Summoning her courage, she ignored her instincts, calling for her to flee as fast and as far as she could, and put one foot in front of the other, moving closer. As she came to within a few feet of Ki'iro, he spoke loudly, startling her.
"Ready for what?" She asked, stopping in her tracks.
There was something fishy about how he stood, familiar but different from Ki'iro. Her eyes widened as she realized that it was not Ki'iro in front of her, but Kai. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words emerged.
Kai smiled at Yumi as he turned to face her, trying to act like Ki'iro did as much as he could. Unfortunately, he was never exactly on speaking terms with Ki'iro, so he didn't have much insight to the way he acted in such situations.
"Nothing," he replied to Yumi's question simply.
In an instant, Kai's eyes flashed a bright red, then diminished back to their previous color. His entire being burst into shadows, the energy pulsed through his body like nothing he had felt before. He smiled from ear to ear as he realized this was the kind of power he could have when Ki'iro wasn't in the back of his mind fighting against him. Raising his hands and stomping one of his feet, shadows darted at Yumi as a booming yell escaped Kai's throat.
Yumi felt her heart sink and panic rise as Kai answered her.
Oh. No. She thought, feeling her mind go blank.
Ichio laughed cruelly in her head. Stumbling back, she watched as his eyes flash red, she knew there was no way out. He was much more powerful than him, and the only chance she'd have was if Ichio joined her. Screaming, she tripped over her own feet in her effort to escape the dark shadows that reached out towards her. She threw her hands down as she turned, pulling down the ceiling behind her. She hoped it would slow the shadows enough to let her escape to somewhere fit for her to fight back, at least. She knew she couldn't outrun him for long.
Kai laughed demonically as Yumi made a pathetic attempt to escape his shadows. Quickly, he closed his hands into fists, causing the shadows to wrap around the ceiling that had fallen. Then, raising his arms, he threw it through the wall, paving him a path towards her. He quickly sprinted after her, and, being an already fast runner, was catching up to her rapidly. The shadows now crawled along the walls, like dark fingers reaching out to touch her.
"Where you going, Yumi?" he cooed after her.
Yumi felt a cold sweat cover her face as she ran, head down and feet flying as fast as they would take her. She heard heavy footsteps behind her, Kai's footsteps. He's going to kill me! He's really trying to kill me! But why is he playing with me? Does he really hate me that much? But... Nakya. She must be in on it, or else he would have waited until I was away from her. What is going on here? Yumi's thoughts raced, consuming her concentration. When she heard Kai's voice just behind her, she nearly shrieked in surprise. Instead, she jumped to the side like a fainting goat, barreling into the wall beside her. Her anger flared, and she threw out both arms together, palms outward, throwing a great bolt of lightning from her hands that singed the air and left behind a feeling of emptiness as the heat exploded in the tiny hallway.
Kai shot his hands out in front of him, his shadows smashing against her lightning in an instant.
"Not going to kill you," he smiled widely, revealing his pearly whites. "Give it to me Yumi! Show me what you can do!"
He let out another demonic-tinted laugh as he pushed his shadows against her lightning harder.
Yumi's mouth dropped open as Kai effortlessly blocked her lightning. In case you haven't noticed, lighting doesn't work on him, stupid, Ichio snickered in her head. Shut up. You're in as much danger as I am. If he kills me, and my body isn't functional anymore, you're as good as dead, she replied angrily.
Pulling herself against the wall behind her, she pulsed energy into it, effectively vibrating the molecules enough to allow her body to slide through without bringing the wall down. She winked at Kai as she slipped out of sight, into a classroom. There was a large window in the room, her only escape. Getting away from the wall as fast as she could, not knowing if Kai's shadows could pass through walls, Yumi backed up against the wall, planning her next move.
Kai shot his shadows at the wall he presumed Yumi to be behind. His shadows could not penetrate the walls, but they could definately throw the wall across the hallway. Laughing, his shadows grabbed it and slammed it into the wall across the hall.
"Hello there," he said with a smirk spreading across his face.
In an instant, he stomped a foot and shot his arms out at her, shooting his shadows at her.
Nakya listened quietly, trying to hear Ki'iro. Not having any luck, she wandered down the hall. Turning the corner, she saw Ki'iro fighting Yumi. Feeling panic rise up inside her, she ran down the hall towards him.
"Ki'iro! What are you doing?" she asked. She grabbed onto his arm, trying to make him look at her.
"What am I doing?" Kai asked as he turned, shooting a death glare at Nakya.
"Don't insult me by addressing me as that pitiful creature's name. We need to do this now, Nakya! We need to get them apart from each other!" he yelled at her, not caring if Yumi was clearly in ear-shot of them.
"I'm merely doing what I was brought here to do. Ki'iro isn't strong enough to be doing this," he spat at her, shadows still creeping towards Yumi.
Nakya quickly backed up at the tone of his voice and the glare he shot her. Hearing Kai's temper coming out, Nakya stepped closer.
"No, we're not doing this now. We're not prepared." she said, equally as venomous.
She knew she needed to distract him somehow, but how. She could kiss him, but that might make him angry. Biting her lip softly, she pulled Kai towards her and wrapped her arms around his neck. Pressing her lips against his, she pulled back slowly and looked at him.
"Not right now Kai, please."

"So, now what? Would you care to fill me in on this little creature?" he asked as it floated around the both of them.
"Gladly." Rinsi said as she walked with Tahtsu with Cecil circling them happily. "Cecil is the Starlight family summons. I don't know much about him/her since vital information was withheld from me up until last year, but I know that s/he can heal both physical wounds and sickness, as well as possibly the psychological and spiritual wounds, though I'm not sure about the latter two. S/he is very happy and easily excited, and apparently I was unable to summon Cecil because, for some reason, s/he required that I have a partner."
"Yep yep!" Cecil confirmed. "Cecil cannot link with Mistress Rinsi's mind unless she has a partner. Besides, Cecil needs both a mommy and a daddy."
"Well, while I am glad I can finally summon Cecil again, more so than that I am glad to be with you, Tahtsu. You're the nicest guy I've ever met, and I've met a lot of nice guys."
Tahtsu just nodded occasionally as he listened to her explain about Cecil. His face flushed quickly, and faded as she mentioned that she had to have a mom and a dad. He turned to her and smiled softly when she said that he was the nicest she had ever met. But he silently disagreed with her. Yet, he figured it would be best to just keep it to himself and let her believe he was the extremely nice person.
Rinsi smiled at Tahtsu. She just couldn't help it. Aside from her cheerful and friendly nature - most of which was a mask so that others would be happy - it was merely his presence that made her smile.
"Tahtsu, thank you for confiding in me. I always wondered, and I'm glad you told me." she said happily.
"Told you what?" Cecil inquired, "CECIL WANTS TO KNOW!"
"No, Cecil. Not unless Tahtsu himself tells you, and that is completely up to him."
"Oh! Mistress Rinsi! Cecil just remembered something! But Cecil cannot tell Master Tahtsu about it. It is something only Mistress Rinsi can do."
"What you can tell me, you can tell him."
"But it's something scary and necessary for emergencies!"
"Then I don't want to know unless an emergency that requires it comes up."
Tahtsu looked to Cecil and shook his head sadly.
"I'm sorry Cecil, maybe eventually I can tell you. Unfortunately, I do not want to speak of it any longer..."
His voice trailed off as he became lost in his mind, thinking about what had happened to his mother.
Cecil looked at Rinsi, a clueless look on his/her face.
"Did Cecil do something bad?"
"Not quite. Well, in a way you did, but you cannot be blamed for it as you do not know. Let's just say it's a very sensitive subject, and it is best not to bring it up."
"Okay. Cecil is sorry, master Tahtsu."
Tahtsu began walking away from Rinsi. He didn't really notice that he was walking away from her, and silently hoped that she would follow. His eyes quickly glazed over as he stared at the ground he walked on. They flashed different colors as a scene played out in his mind.
It was a small village, not even big enough to be considered a town. It was a farming village, to be exact. Chickens ran about the little dirt paths, eating away at any scraps of food they could find. A boy, about fifteen years of age, wandered the streets. A sword, too long for his person, hung from his back. His short silver hair flicked in the wind as he walked down the narrow path towards a house. Behind him, a diabolic scene began to unfold. One house was caught on fire, sending black smoke up to pollute the sky. A small family ran out, coughing as they ran to the river to try to get water. A smirk shot across the boy's face as the majority of the village behind him began to catch on fire. As he reached the house, he ran inside, checking for his family. Nobody was there, he was thankful for that. Perhaps they had already left the village and taken his warning seriously, he thought.
Before she had realized it, Rinsi had fallen behind. She ran to catch up, but something in Tahtsu's eyes wasn't right. They were glazed and far away, as if he were thinking deeply about something, and said something was very serious indeed. Considering their conversation, she figured he was reflecting on his past, thinking about whatever circumstances that took his mother's life and labeled him an outcast in his family. Rinsi wasn't sure if she should wake him from his waking dream, or let him reflect. Knowing how depressing it could be to reflect on such things for too long, she decided on the former.
"Tahtsu, is everything okay? You seem...distracted."
The skies were gray, people were dieing and-suddenly cut out of his daydream. He turned quickly from Rinsi, and not realizing it was her, took a few steps backwards as he unsheathed his sword. He swung at her, but stopped a few inches before it would have sliced her. Staring at her face, his eyes blazed, then calmed a moment later. Looking away from her, he resheathed his sword and stared at the floor.
"My apologies..."
Rinsi didn't flinch, but she didn't smile either. His eyes, how they blazed when they saw her first! And his reaction...He must have been really deep in thought, and not on anything good. His reaction worried her. She was concerned for his future mental health if he didn't quickly deal with whatever he had been thinking about just now.
"I forgive you. Whatever it was you were thinking about had to be pretty bad. Are you okay, Tahtsu?"
Tahtsu brought his eyes back up to meet hers, his temper flaring.
"No," he said as he brought his hands up. He began backing away from her as he spoke.
"You don't...er...You don't want to be around me right now. I need...I need to be alone. I'll kill you!" he yelled.
His voice echoed down the hall as he yelled at her. He was never one to let his temper get the best of him, but this...he couldn't deal with this.
Rinsi was REALLY worried now. She knew he'd never hurt her. She figured that out quite a while ago. So such an outburst sent worries through her mind that she'd never had before.
"Mooney, please follow Tahtsu, and make sure he's okay. Don't let him see you, though. If anything happens, alert me first."
Mooney meowed his affirmation and ran after Tahtsu, being as silent as the wind itself.
Rinsi herself wondered towards the library. She had to help him somehow!
Tahtsu immediately ran out of the school and into the forest. His sword clanked against the floor as he ran. Silent tears streaked down his face as he scurried up into a tree. Sitting on a branch, his mind began wandering again. His memory skipped to his sword, her head, the blood, everywhere. Tahtsu screamed, slamming his fist into the trunk of the tree.
Mooney stood a good distance from Tahtsu so he wouldn't be seen, as instructed. He did nothing but watch and wonder what his mistress liked about him so much.

Meanwhile, Rinsi was in the library, madly looking up all the psychology books she could get her fingers on. Since she had photographic memory - at least to an extent - she didn't need a notebook.
"Mistress Rinsi, what's wrong with Master Tahtsu?" Cecil inquired, looking as sad and worried as she felt, "Why did he attack you and run away?"
"He's got some things he needs to straighten out in his head. I think I caught him a little too off guard while he was thinking about things in the past."
"Is that why mistress is looking at big books like that?"
"Yes. I want to help him, but I need to know how." Rinsi said.
Rinsi could hardly hold back the own sadness in her voice. She didn't like how he looked when he ran off, and she was afraid for him. However, she knew she could not let her facade falter at any moment. She mustn't worry others with herself. So, instead, she forced on the best smile she could manage, and willed away the tears that threatened to break down the dams of her eyes that held them back.

Tahtsu leaped down from the tree branch he was in and began mindlessly punching at the tree trunk. He punched until his knuckles bled red, and the color stained his clothes.
Tahtsu let his hands drop to his sides, blood dripping from the tips. His breathing was labored and heavy. Looking over his shoulder, he saw a cat. One that he recognized as Rinsi's.
"What do you want?" he spat at the feline.
Tahtsu even seeing him had surprised Mooney, but there was no real way he could show it. Instead he looked up and put on the best kitty smile that he could and meowed. He hoped Tahtsu would understand and calm down some.

As Mooney watched Tahtsu beat the living hell out of the poor tree he came across, Rinsi was in the library, reading madly. She didn't know how to help him, and she was hoping the books she found would have some information, but so far there was no such luck. It frustrated her to no end to not find the answers she was looking for, but she wasn't about to give up just yet.
"Cecil, is there any way you can help?" she asked.
"Cecil is not sure. Cecil can heal body ailments, but Cecil has not trained much in healing mind ailments. Is Master Tahtsu okay?"
"I'm not sure. It seems like he needs someone to talk to, but right now he needs some space. It's really rather confusing. I don't know what to do right now."
"Perhaps Mistress Rinsi should go see Tahtsu." Cecil said, "If Tahtsu needs to talk to someone, Mistress Rinsi is the best one to talk to."
"You know, I keep forgetting that you're far older than I am." Rinsi mused. "I guess I should, but at the same time I know he needs space. Admittedly, I'm a little afraid. He's not himself right now."
"Maybe Mistress Rinsi can bring him back then." Cecil said cheerfully.
"Here's hoping." Rinsi said as she left the library, not even bothering to replace the books on their shelves.
Rinsi walked out of the building and towards the forest. She was anxious, but mostly for Tahtsu's sake. If at all possible, she wanted to bring him back to himself, no matter what happened to her. As she approached him, she saw how bloody his knuckles were and walked up to him, neither frowning nor smiling. Gently, delicately, she placed her hands on his and watched as the glowed dimly as she healed the minor wounds on his hands and the possible crushed bones from punching the tree.
"Are you feeling better now?"
"I killed her," he said with a flat tone of voice.
His eyes were once again glazed over, but his mind and memory was empty. He stood there limp, not caring about the dark clouds above them that threatened to soak them.
