Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ The Gifted Moon Academy ❯ Rocky Relationship ( Chapter 27 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Yumi had walked out the front doors of the school, then into the woods. She'd wanted to sit on the shore of the lake, but there were people there. She didn't know who it was, and she didn't care. I'd hoped to be out of here before Nakya returned, she thought bitterly. But you wouldn't let me leave, would you, Ichio? He said nothing in return, sulking. He hoped Nakya's cold look had been for Yumi, but somewhere in his head, something told him Yumi wasn't the only one she was mad at. Yumi wandered about a mile into the forest, taking her time. She probably would return after dark, when most of the students had gone to bed, then return and finish packing her things.
Her room was a mess, clothes strewn about her bed and dresser. She'd attempted to pack, though Ichio's strong will sent her into fits, where she threw clothes into the suitcases, then tossed them back out once more. Ichio did not want to leave, under any condition.
Walking more in the direction of the lake now, Yumi made her way to the shoreline, now almost completely opposite the school. She closed her eyes and sat down on a boulder, crossing her legs and folding her hands in her lap. Prepare yourself, Ichio. I'm going to win this time. I can promise you that. She smiled, and began her attack.
Yumi stood slowly, a smile on her face. Ichio may have the brute strength, but she had the finesse and endurance. Ichio was unconscious once more, laying in the back of her mind like a cyst.
Just one more battle, Ichio. One more, and It'll all be over. You'll see the end of your suffering. I never thought you'd be this easy to kill.
Yumi started off at a run back towards the school, hoping to be packed and gone before he awoke. She ran along the soft shoreline, letting the water lap at her heels. The school grew closer and closer, and Yumi felt amazing, finally free of Ichio for the time being. She was so happy, she began to sing, taking a quick switch between male and female parts. Using her powers felt amazing. She came to the field in front of the school, the training grounds, and felt to happy to do anything but dance. Beginning another song, she felt her body start to move, and pulsed the energy about her form, crystallizing parts of the air, which clung to her skin, making her sparkle. She twirled and dipped, feeling the music take over her body. She couldn't remember the last time she'd felt so free.

Nakya's eyelids fluttered as she began to wake up. Rolling over, she felt a warm body next to hers. Opening her eyes slowly, she saw Ki'iro sleeping soundly. Cuddling up to him gently, she wrapped her tail around his waist, a small smile gracing her lips.
"Good morning, dear. " she whispered softly.
She looked at the clock and groaned softly. She never slept this late. She really needed to remember to sleep from now on.
Ki'iro awoke softly, and heard Nakya's voice. Searching for the memories of the previous night, he sighed heavily as he remembered everything.
"Damn..." he said softly as he realized what today held in store for them. "Good morning, Nakya," he said simply.
He was still exceptionally upset with her, but it wasn't enough to keep him from being civil towards her. Standing up, he zipped his jacket and ran his fingers through his hair.
"Ready?" he asked uneasily.
Hearing the tone of Ki'iro's voice, she sat up as he stood. Frowning slightly, she looked down at the bed.
"There's not much we can do, besides plan, until I get the phone call. "
Still frowning, she cleared her throat and looked up at Ki'iro.
"Do you hate me? You'd tell me, right?"
A crease had formed on her forehead, as she furrowed her brow. She reached up and scratched her neck, before wiping at the corner of her left eye. Looking back down at the bed, she waited for his response in silence
Ki'iro sighed heavily. He didn't want to deal with this drama anymore. He stood up straight, knees locked, hands in pockets. To anyone looking at him, he would look like a person that meant business, and business only.
"I don't hate you," he said softly, but refusing to lower his guard.
He chewed on his lower lip, refusing to tell her that he loved her. He didn't want to be hurt again, and again. Thus, he found it was most affective to just keep his heart locked in a box away from the world for now.
"When do we need to find Ichio and Yumi? What about Rinsi? Are we killing someone? Go over the plan again." He said to her.
His voice was very flat, not monotone, but showed no room for emotion.
Looking up at Ki'iro, she took in his posture. Listening to his tone, she felt her heart sink. She had messed up again. Clearing her throat a couple of times, she tried to make her voice strong, but failed.
"We should find Yumichio once I get the call, Rinsi before them. We're not killing anyone. The man giving his body to Ichio, he was into some bad drugs in Tonga, he angered the wrong people. These people track him by his thoughts. Once we put Ichio into his body, he'll slowly fade away, until he's no more. I didn't approach him about it, he approached me. He knows he's a dead man. He wants someone who will do good to have his body. " Taking a deep breath, she continued.
"I'll need you to bind Yumi if she tries anything when I approach her. It would be best if you and Rinsi hid and snuck up. As I go into her mind, to get to Ichio, I'll need her to be bound. Once I begin pulling Ichio out, I'll give a sign, a flick of my right wrist, and a barrier needs to go up around Yumi. Once I put Ichio's mind and soul into the new body, another barrier, hopefully provided by Rinsi, will need to go up around him. I may collapse from exhaustion, but ignore it. Keep focused on the two of them. They'll try and hurt each other."
Looking away from Ki'iro, she pulled her long, blonde hair over one shoulder, appearing emotionless.
"Fine," he agreed simply as he nodded his head. He headed out of the dorm room. "I'm going to shower, I'll be back soon," he said as he hurried off to his room.
Hearing Ki'iro agreeing and watching him walk out the door, Nakya felt sick. She buried her face in her pillow and began crying. Tears streamed down her face as she continued thinking she had destroyed everything. With every tear that fell, she could feel her heart breaking into even smaller pieces. She had taken a chance on him, telling him how she felt. She didn't understand why he was still so angry. He had wanted her to talk to Ichio. She had. She couldn't let her friend die, could she? She hadn't meant to fall asleep with him. As she thought more and more about her situation, she cried harder. Reaching into the left breast pocket of her jacket, she reached in and pulled out a set of dogtags. On one side, she had her paw print. On the other, she had had words inscribed.
Ki'iro,
You are my light in the darkness,
The sun in my sky.
I can only hope that I'm your rainbow,
And comfort in the night.
I love you.
Squeezing them tightly in her hand, she threw them at the wall. Listening to the clattering noise they made, she continued crying until it moved into soft whimpers.
Quickly hoping into the shower, Ki'iro relaxed in the warm water that trickled down his skin. After a few minutes of washing his hair and body, he stepped out and dried himself. Then, stepping into some clean clothes, he began walking back to Nakya's room. He began rehearsing what he wanted to say to her.
"Nakya, I'm sorry. I'm just overreacting, and we just need to start over," he sighed and changed his way of thinking. "You need to be with Ichio. I'm no good for you, and I can't give you all the love and attention that you need. You need to be cared for with an unimaginable amount of love and compassion."
He sighed heavily, his selfishness kicking in.
"But you're mine..." he whispered softly as he stood outside of Nakya's dorm room, debating whether or not to go inside.
As her sobbing grew to soft whimpering, Nakya sat up. She looked at the dog tags on the floor and felt nauseous. How could she have been so stupid? Quiet tears still rolled down her cheeks. Hearing footsteps walk down the hall and stop outside her room, Nakya moved silently to the door. Pressing her ear against it, she heard Ki'iro talking to himself, rehearsing how to..... break up with her? Nakya felt the color drain from her face. A hundred different emotions filled her. Fear. Heartbreak. Despair. Those were only a few. She looked around her room, eyes wide, breathing rapidly. Finally, she was able to calm herself down. Setting an uncaring, emotionless expression on her face, she picked up the dog tags. Looking herself in the mirror, she frowned slightly before quickly applying make up to hide her puffy eyes. Knowing there was nothing she could do to hide the redness, she took a deep breath before opening the door. Still keeping the same emotionless expression on her face, she walked by Ki'iro, dropping the dog tags in front of him.
"I'll be looking for Yumichio. Go find Rinsi, fill her in. I got those in Tonga for you. Custom made." As she was about to turn the corner, she paused momentarily. "And don't worry. You don't have to leave me, I'll go on my own."
Staring hard at Ki'iro for a moment before turning the corner and running down the stairs, Nakya punched the wall, cracking it as a few more tears escaped. Walking through the door, she took a deep breath. What the hell was she thinking? She couldn't do this alone! Oddly enough though, she didn't care anymore.
Ki'iro rushed after her, and in his running, placed the dog tags around his neck. As he ran, they jingled against his chest.
"Nakya," he said softly as he walked up to her.
"I wasn't going to break up with you..." he paused as he thought. "I was just thinking about what to say, and that I..." he gulped heavily and stepped back from her a few feet. "I was wrong," he said through gritted teeth.
Hearing footsteps running down the hall after her, Nakya stopped, keeping her back to the person following. When she heard Ki'iro's voice, tears sprung to her eyes again, but this time they were caused by anger. Spinning around to face him, her tear filled eyes narrowed.
"I don't want to do this anymore, Ki'iro. Why can't we just be happy? I don't want any of this drama crap anymore! I don't want to make you feel horrible all the time, and I know I do. Ichio and I are friends. That's it. I know you'll always be doubting me. You don't trust me, I can see that. I don't know what you want me to do. I don't know how I can prove that I love you. Maybe you don't want that though. How the hell do I know? You've never once told me that you love me. Maybe you're just with me because you feel sorry for me. I don't know anything anymore, and I hate it!"
As she spoke the last of her words, her hands balled into fists and her words dissolved into silent sobs as tears began streaming down her face. She loved him so much, but if he wanted her gone, if that would make him happy, she would go.
Ki'iro grabbed her hands and pulled them up to his chest. He opened his mouth to speak, but stumbled over his words. His eyes filled with tears as he slowly let her hands go.
"I'm sorry, I do love you," he said quietly. Ki'iro let his hands fall to his sides as he turned away from her.
Feeling Ki'iro take her hands and pull them to his chest, she looked up at him with tear filled eyes, and listened to him stumble over his words. As he let go of her hands and his eyes filled with tears, she watched as he turned away. Listening to his words, her breath caught in her throat.
"I..Are you sure? I don't want you to say it just because I made you feel bad.."
Her words were no louder than a whisper. Her breaths were shaky as she moved in front of him. Stepping closer to him, she wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his chest. She continued crying, but she wasn't angry anymore. She just wanted everything to be okay.
Ki'iro just sighed and softly hugged her back.
"Nakya, I love you but..." he choked over his words. "I'm too paranoid. I don't believe I can make you happy, and that's all I want. If you're willing to put up with my constant paranoia...and if that's what makes you happy then...then I'll respect your decision and happily stay with you. But if you want a more care-free relationship, I suggest you find someone else. That someone else is probably Ichio. Because once they're separated, he won't have any more problems. And frankly," he pulled her face up to look at his, a flash of bright red shot through his eyes as she looked at him. "I do have problems Nakya," he concluded.
Nakya let herself smile softly when he said he loved her. When the word but escaped his lips, she felt her body tense up. Why was he doing this? She listened to his words, her mind reeling with confusion.
"Why.. Why are you saying these things?" she asked, her voice breaking.
As she heard him tell her to be with Ichio, she felt her heart break all over again. Feeling his hand pull her face up to his, silent tears rolled down her face.
"Just shut up! I only want you! I don't care if you think you have problems! I think you're perfect!" she exclaimed softly, jumping into his arms.
Her tail wrapped around his waist as did her legs, pulling them closer.
Ki'iro was taken by surprise at Nakya's assertiveness.
"O-okay..." he whispered softly. He returned her embrace by hugging her softly.
Feeling Ki'iro's arms close around her, Nakya let out a content sigh. She nuzzled his neck softly, before continuing.
"I'm not the same girl I was last year, you know? I grew a pair I guess you could say." Laughing softly, she yawned quietly into his neck.
"I need a nap, will you come with me?" she asked, not loosening her grip.
"Of course," he nodded as he carried her towards her dorm room.
Not being that far away from her room, they made it there relatively quickly. He opened the room for her and placed her down on her bed.
"I'm not going to nap right now, but I'll come back for you, okay Nakya? I'll be outside probably," he said softly as he tucked her into bed.

Rinsi had slept very little that night. She spent most of the night mulling over the situation. She was afraid for Yumi and Ichio, but especially Ichio. Just what was wrong with the person's body that was causing them to die and could not be cured by medical science? Whatever it was, she was afraid it would still affect Ichio, and she likely couldn't do a damn thing about it. If it was a disease, Cecil probably could have, but she wasn't sure s/he'd come back yet. If it was a poison...there was nothing she or Cecil could do.
Rinsi began walking about the school, her staff and her violin in tote. She was looking for Tahtsu. She had been interrupted yesturday, and there was no helping that, but hell would freeze over before she let anyone interrupt them today. She wanted to show him something. It was something he needed to see, and it wasn't necessarily bad. If anything, it would help out a lot. Who knows? Maybe he would laugh. She certainly hoped so.
After her morning jog and shower, she still felt rather gloomy about it, but chose not to show it. She wanted her friends to think she was okay.
Tahtsu wandered around the front of the school, running, actually. Figuring his physical strength might be needed today, he might as well get a good work out in. After a few minutes of excersizing, he headed towards the music room. Taking his sword off his back, he sat down at the piano and began playing the Moonlight Sonata.
As Rinsi passed the music room she could hear the familiar tinkling musical notes of a piano. It wasn't just any song, either. It was none other than one of the songs Beethoven was famous for. It was the Moonlight Sonata, the first movement. She herself had learned that song for piano - that being her first instrument, though she preferred violin. Carefully opening the doors so as not to interrupt whoever was playing, she peeked in and smiled at what she saw - the big old tough guy Tahtsu playing such a slow and sad song on the piano. She had never figured him for a musician, much less one that was proficient at the piano. She liked it. She liked it a lot. What beautiful songs they could play together now.
Smiling to herself she removed her violin from it's case and rested it on her left shoulder. As it nestled between her shoulder and her chin, her right hand delicately drew the bow across the strings as she played along. It was the same song, at the same tempo, and she played it perfectly on her violin.
Tahtsu didn't turn around as he continued playing. He just smiled as he felt the music pulse through him. Thankful for the addition to the music, he played with more passion than he had been.
Rinsi smiled as she played. As sad as the song was, it cheered her up. Most of that was due to the fact that she found out that Tahtsu did, indeed, play an instrument, and more so than that was that they could play such a song together in a beautiful duet, sad song be damned. It lifted her spirits as she heard the song played by both of them and filled her with energy. It was strange how it could do that, in spite of how the song seemed to cry, but now the tears were not of sadness, but of joy.
As the song came to an end she placed her violin in its case and clapped for Tahtsu.
"I had no clue you played an instrument. You play beautifully, my love."
Tahtsu stood up and walked over to Rinsi, holding one of her hands softly in his.
"I learned to play a tad when I was in my younger years," he said with a simle.
"Rinsi, I feel I must tell you about my past and who I..." he sighed heavily and sat down.
Motioning for her to sit down as well, he began to speak.
"Do you recall when I mentioned I could not save some one?" he asked softly.
Tahtsu pulled out his phone and began flipping it open and closed.
Rinsi's smile faded a bit at his solemn air, but quickly perked up again. She was glad he felt he was ready to tell her about his past, and she was glad he trusted her with such information. She took a seat, and nodded her head when he asked if he remembered his previous near slip of the tongue. It was something she couldn't forget, and had nibbled at the back of her mind since then.
"Yes, I remember."
"I couldn't save my mother," he said flatly.
He dropped his cell phone onto the floor and clenched his hands into fists. His hair dropped in front of his face, covering his clouded eyes.
"That's why I left. My family hates me because I deserted them."
Rinsi wanted to frown, but she knew that doing so would not do any good. Instead, she kept smiling, but it was a bit more forced than usual. She picked up his phone and wrapped her arms around him.
"It's okay, Tahtsu. Whatever happened, you shouldn't blame yourself. There are things that are unavoidable. If your 'family' is going to hate you for coming here, rather than being there, then that's their problem. I'll be your family, if you want me to. Which reminds me, I have something to show you."
Tahtsu just tried to slap a smile on his face as Rinsi spoke. "Alright. Show me," he said as he took his phone back from her.
Rinsi smiled up at Tahtsu, knowing his smile was fake. She just hoped she could cheer him up, as he had cheered her up. She knew he was hurting and she didn't blame him. She remembered what it was like to blame herself for her parent's death, though she hadn't told him about that yet. She didn't want him to go through the same thing, so she vowed to herself silently that she would help him, make him stop blaming himself, and help him cope with whatever had happened.
Rinsi picked up her violin and the bow once more and began to play a beautiful lullaby. Again, it was the one her mother used to play for her every night at bed time, and again as she played, she began to glow. Her heart filled with joy and she knew that this time the spell would work. Half way through the song a pair of beautiful, ethereal wings sprouted from her back as the beautiful, but soft lilting melody played through both her and the music room itself, as well as all who were in it.
"Celestial Wind!" she said happily as the song ended.
Suddenly, a little furry creature appeared out of nowhere. It was white, borderline powder blue, and had feathery ears and fur as soft as down.
"Mistress Rinsi!" the creature called out as it made a beeline for her chest again.
Rinsi had almost forgotten Cecil's tendency to cuddle her bosom, and was taken aback. She carefully pried him away, flushing bright red.
"Hello, Cecil. I want you to meet someone. Tahtsu, this is our family summons, Cecil. Cecil, this is my boyfriend, Tahtsu."
"Master Tahtsu!" Cecil said cheerfully, making a beeline for his chest next.
Tahtsu stared in awe as Rinsi played and the little...creature formed in the air.
"Erm...hello," he said softly as the thing ran into his chest.
"Oof! Friendly, aren't you?" he asked as he pet Cecil on the head.
Looking at Rinsi, he shot a somewhat questioning look at her. He had never heard of this little thing before, and he silently questioned it.
"Where might you be from, little thing?"
