[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Nakya wandered the halls after her run in with Ki'iro. She tried as hard as she could not to think of him, and finally, she just shut her mind off. Walking down the halls, she looked out the windows, a distant look crossing her face. As she walked, she swung her hips, her skirt lifting up just enough. She passed a few random students in the halls, all of them boys, and she couldn't help but smirk prettily as she caught them staring. Typical boys. Only interested in one thing. She continued wandering the halls on the second floor, eventually circling around.
Ki'iro sighed as he walked out of the door, slamming it closed. He shoved his hands into his pockets and cussed quietly under his breath. His hair flew around his head as he walked with speed. A scarf was wrapped around his head like a headband. A moment later, after realizing it was far too long, he ripped it in half and disposed of half of it, keeping the other half securely on his head. He stepped out into the cool, brisk, winter afternoon, a breeze of cold wind wrapped around him. His hair stayed in place, due to the headband. With a sigh and a deep breath, he raised his hands, ready to vent some of his energy.
Overcome suddenly by her sadness, Nakya felt nothing but despair. Running down the stairs and outside, she made her way to the large open field. Pausing momentarily, she took in her surroundings and began running to the lake. There would be ice on it, but it would part for her. It would also close back over top of her. It would be for the best. She only brought pain and hurt to the ones she loved. Ichio.. Ki'iro.. Yumi.. They had all loved her and she had somehow hurt all of them. As she ran passed Ki'iro, her breaths were coming in ragged gasps from the tears streaming down her face, freezing to her perfect skin. As she finally reached the edge of the lake, she stopped, catching her breath. Closing her eyes, she concentrated. Lifting her arms, the ice split down the middle of the lake. Glancing over her shoulder, she took one last fleeting glimpse of her life, and dove in under the water, the ice closing back up over top of her.
Just a moment before he had started venting, he noticed Nakya running past him.
"Wh-?" he started to speak.
But, noticing that something was clearly wrong with her, he lowered his hands. He sighed heavily as he argued with himself over whether or not he wanted to go and find her. With a heavy heart, his conscious got to him.
"Damn it..." he cussed under his breath as he darted into the forest. Zipping past trees, he showed up at the lake.
"Nakya!" he screamed into the forest around him.
"Nakya! Nakya!" And again, and again he screamed into the trees.
Ki'iro began looking around frantically, and began panicking. Suddenly, a thought hit him. The lake. He looked down at the lake and noticed the ice had a crack in it and wasn't even fully closed up.
"Nakya!" he screamed into the water. He stomped his foot down shooting shadows into the lake. They propped themselves up against the iced surface of the lake and kept it open as he threw his hands down towards the water. Shadows darted from his fingertips and slithered down into the deep abyss. Shivers were thrown up Ki'iro's spine as the shadows were pretty much an extension of his own body. The cool water hit him hard, sending his nerves into shock. But still, he pressed on, and finally felt the warmth of a body caught in between his shadows. With all of his might, he stomped the floor again, shooting the surface of the lake apart, by far enough for a body to fit through. His shadows curled around her body and gripped her tightly as he pulled back, yanking her body out of the water and onto the green grass next to the lake.
His breathing was heavy and labored; he hadn't used that much of his energy in quite some time. With another staggered breath, he fell to the floor, but remained consciousness as he attempted to move over to Nakya.
"W-wake up..." he whispered.
As the cold water hit her, her body went into shock. She tumbled through the water, feeling more and more sleepy. She looked up towards the surface to see there was a slight crack. A moment later, she heard someone calling her name, but it seemed so far away. Soon enough all of this would be far, far away. Just before she slipped into unconsciousness, she watched the ice pulled apart by something black. Then there was nothing for a long while. A dim light slowly faded into view. She was in a field. Looking around she saw her parents' house. As she moved through the tall grass, feeling the warm sun beating down on her body, she heard her mother's voice. As she drew closer to her voice, a smile spread across her face. Finally reaching her mother, she threw her arms around her, sobbing and hugging her. Her mother hugged her back silently, stroking her daughter's hair. She heard a man's voice, possibly her father's, whispering 'Wake up..'
She laughed softly as she realized he must be playing a game with her. She ran around the house trying to find him. Suddenly, she was overcome by a coughing fit. It burned her lungs. She fell to her knees and everything went black once more. This time, her wakening wasn't so pleasant. She was coughing so hard, she felt like she would throw up. The next thing she knew, she was. It was all lake water that came out. The dim light shining through the trees was too bright. Through bleary eyes, she saw a figure near her. Her father! He had come back for her. Weakly moving her body over to him, she laid her head in his lap. Through tears, she whispered
"You came back for me, Daddy. It's my turn to cross over now, isn't it?" She cuddled weakly against the warmth of her father trying valiantly to remain conscious.
Ki'iro felt his body stiffen as she laid her head into his lap. His whole being wanted to move away from her and be as far away from her as possible. But she needed help. With a huge gasp of air, he filled his lungs and stood up, laying her head softly on the grass. He managed to sit her upright and held her delicately, yet firmly in his arms. With a heavy sigh, he drew up the last of his energy and darted towards the school knowing full-well that Nakya needed immediate medical attention. She had been in nearly freezing water for who knows how long? At least she was alive, that was the extent of his abilities.
"Rinsi!" he shouted into the sky as he ran.
His breath became heavy and labored yet again as he neared the front doors of the school. Finally reaching the doors, he shoved them open and darted into the nurse's office.
"Rinsi! Help! Please!" his voice was pathetic and scared, like an orphaned dog.
They needed help. Bursting into the office, he laid Nakya down on a bed softly, then sat himself down in a nearby chair with a thud.
She felt herself being lifted and settled comfortably into the warmth of her father's chest. Cuddling in, she felt herself slipping back into unconsciousness. She wasn't sure how long she was out, but she felt the warmth leave her and heard what sounded like a door closing. She could feel panic rising in her chest and she called out.
"Don't leave me again! You promised you wouldn't!"
She curled into a fetal position crying over her father. His last words to her echoed through her head. You'll always hurt everyone you love. Everyone will leave you and it's all your fault..
Cecil was about to return to Rinsi, since she was due to be awake soon anyway, when s/he heard the crashing of doors flying open, and a familiar voice calling out for his/her mistress. Cecil knew that voice from anywhere. It was uncle Ki'iro! But he didn't sound happy. He sounded downright frightened, like Rinsi had been. Cecil flew down the halls as fast as s/he could towards the sound, and found Ki'iro and Nakya in the nurse's station, dripping wet and blue hued from the cold.
"What happened, uncle Ki'iro?" Cecil asked.
Ki'iro sent a death glare to Cecil as s/he entered the room. Although she meant well, he was definitely not in the mood for happy go-lucky Cecil floating about the room. As he raised a heavy finger, he pointed towards Nakya. As he attempted to speak, he was thrown into a heavy coughing spree, but managed to spit out the words "..Fix her..." before his cough overtook his voice again. He covered his mouth as he violently coughed, and blood began running down his mouth from the exhaustion of his powers.
Nakya's body began shaking badly. To anyone else it would look like she was having a seizure, but in reality she was just cold. Her mind began coming back to her slowly, and she opened her eyes as she heard a familiar voice. There was Cecil and Ki'iro. She lifted her head weakly and saw she was laying on a bed. So she hadn't died, but how did she get back here? Hearing Ki'iro begin to cough, she flicked her eyes over to him and saw the blood coming from his mouth. She gasped quietly, and tried to push herself up on the bed. her face was pale with a blue tinge and full of concern. She was to weak to hide it.
"What happened? Are you alright?"
Her voice was no more than a raspy whisper and her body was still trembling from the cold. She began coughing and collapsed back onto the bed. A slight groan escaped her lips once her coughing was done.
"Looks like Cecil needs to fix you both. But Cecil needs to know what happened so Cecil will know what to do to fix you two." Cecil said, not quite so cheerful any more. Especially not with how pale they both looked.
Cecil flew up to one of the nurses and smiled a friendly smile. That's just how s/he was.
"We need blankets please. Warm ones! For both of them. They are really really cold!"
Cecil then flew back to Ki'iro and Nakya.
"Auntie Nakya is telepathic right? If so, maybe Cecil can talk to her." S/he said as s/he sat on Nakya's face.
In reality, as Cecil was sitting on her face, s/he was making their own diagnostic of what might have happened. It was obvious they went for a swim, and with the cold weather outside, hypothermia was definitely an option. With the blood coming out of Ki'iro's mouth, Cecil surmised that he had coughed so hard that his throat bled somewhere from the effort. As for Nakya, she looked like she had nearly drowned. S/he quickly began to draw the water from her lungs so she could breath better, while simultaneously healing Ki'iro's throat so it would stop bleeding. Cecil knew that, first and foremost, they had to get warm, but could not produce any heat of his/her own aside from what came naturally, so s/he had to wait for the blankets to arrive.
Ki'iro immediately felt his throat healing, and he could speak decently now that his throat wasn't making an attempt to cough up all the blood. He stood slowly and walked over to Nakya's bed. His face became extremely emotionless again, he couldn't bear being around her for this long. As he clenched his fists, together, he told the story.
"Nakya had the brilliant idea of trying to drown herself in the lake," he said, tossing his head towards the direction of the forest.
"I ran out to find her after I realized something was wrong with her. Saw a crack in the lake, and figured she was trying to off herself. I pushed myself too hard and exhausted myself," he finished quickly, but his voice trailed off into sadness.
Cecil covered his/her mouth with his/her paws. His/her eyes grew wide, and watery with tears. Why would she do that? Cecil never could understand why humans were so anxious to kill themselves or each other. Then again, Cecil was from another world, one full of happiness, so it was easy to understand why Cecil didn't understand.
"But....why would Auntie do that?" Cecil said with a little sniffle, as if s/he were about to cry.
Nakya felt the water being drawn out of her lungs and began coughing once more. As the water poured out of her, she was gasping for air in between each cough. Once all the water was clear, she felt herself giving way to the darkness that was threatening to overcome her. Struggling to stay awake, she heard Ki'iro's voice, although it sounded far away.
"B-because you d-don't c-care.." she said weakly, her voice barely a whisper. Her eyes closed and she continued to fight to remain conscious.
"Stop telling me that I don't care about you!" he yelled at her, his temper flaring.
Shadows whipped violently around his feet, he didn't have enough energy for them to feed off of in order for them to raise any higher.
"If I didn't care about you, I wouldn't have saved you! I would have let you drown in that freezing lake. I wouldn't have shattered a violin against a wall if I didn't care about you!"
His stone hard expression didn't offer any room for sadness. Although his face clearly showed his frustration, he didn't want Nakya to be with him anymore. He wasn't good for her, and they both knew it, whether Nakya wanted to believe it or not.
Cecil began to cry. It was the first time, at least for Rinsi or anyone in the school to see. Even if she thought Uncle Ki'iro didn't care, she didn't know that for a fact, and had acted rashly. Even more than that, she had forgotten about Cecil, and Mistress Rinsi.
"B-but Cecil cares. And Mistress Rinsi cares. You forgot about Cecil and Mistress Rinsi!" Cecil cried.
Hearing Ki'iro's anger come through in his words, silent tears rolled down her face. As she listened to him finish, she wrapped her arms around Cecil, silently sobbing into his/her body.
"I know you guys do, Cecil but.."
She trailed off as her voice lost its power. How could she explain it to anyone if she couldn't explain it to herself? A nurse brought over a few blankets for Nakya and Ki'iro and began laying some on top of her. Without opening her eyes, two whispered words left her mouth.
"Thank you."
She felt the darkness trying harder to overtake her, but before she let it, she whispered three words to Ki'iro, not caring what his response was.
"I love you.." Letting the darkness over take her, her body went limp and everything else was gone.
Ki'iro just stared at Nakya, he had no idea what to say to her. Quickly, he wrapped the blanket around him and sat down in the chair next to her bed. With a heavy sigh, he thought about what he should do.
"God damn it..." he said quietly under his breath as he leaned his head against the wall. "Why won't you stop loving me..." he looked over at Nakya, his eyes heavy and tired.
