Zonta growled under his breath as he made his way down the street, it wasn’t bad enough that there was a bit of a chilly wind blowing though, no it just had to start raining, lightly raining but rain none the less, which meant his ears were getting wet…..

Oh how he hated it when his ears got wet…

Flicking his ears to try and dislodge the tiny droplets of water that were beginning to collect Zonta sighed. Why had he agreed to do this again?

“Please Zonta…come on I’m your brother…and I’m just starting to make some headway with Max…I can’t leave him now, he’ll freak out or something and I can’t take him with me.” Kasan’s words rang out inside of Zonta’s mind.

Oh yeah….that’s why.

So here he was, out in the cold and the rain, making his way to a diplomatic meeting in his brother’s stead while said brother got to stay at home, in his nice comfy bed, with his nice, warm sexy consort…..

Life could be so unfair.

Zonta sighed as he came to a stop for a moment, staring at the building across the road from him, it took him a moment or two but soon the realization jolted him. He knew the building, it had belonged to his uncle and with that little realization came an aching pain in his chest.

Why had Shovak betrayed their family like that? Going so far as to attempt to arrange the death of his own nephew Kasan? It didn’t make any sense to Zonta. His brothers often teased him for being to innocent, for refusing to acknowledge the ways of the world. Zonta didn’t think he was THAT bad, but it was true, he didn’t quite get all the cutthroat business in the world, why would anyone bother with such things?

He wasn’t stupid, he knew why some people chose that path, but their reasoning confounded him. Why not focus on what truly mattered in life, being healthy and happy, food in your stomach and a warm home, family around you and a loving consort/mate at your side.

Zonta knew why those who did not have these things would sometimes perform cruel, wicked acts. It was desperation, a misery that drove them to a type of madness, Zonta recognized this and his heart went out to those poor souls.

He had always felt that, as a member of the royal family, it was his duty to do everything he could to help rid his world of such blight. He had and thus should help those who had not. It made perfect sense to him and although he might not be as skilled or even interested in the ways of blades and blood as his brothers were, if he had his way he would help his race into a world were they were not needed.

But at the same time he recognized his home’s need for a strong defense, especially after the horrors his people had suffered at the hands of slavers, so he both understood and supported their military, but he felt that fighting between Kyashin and Kyashin needed to stop. They were all brothers and sisters so why was there strife?

Tisu tended to call him a dreamer, and that was fine with Zonta, he would dream a magnificent dream and if it came true?

Gloating galore, he vowed, gloating galore.

The sound of glass shattering pulled Zonta away from his mental musings

"YEEEHAAAWWWW!!!!" A voice rang out from above him. What in the world? Zonta looked up, just in time to see two figures hurtling through the air, a smaller one on top of a larger one and his stomach knotted tightly, that was quite a fall….and he wasn’t sure if anyone would be walking away from it.

The two landed with a sickening thud, the smaller one literally bouncing off from the impact, lunching him forward and causing his head to crack off of the hard ground. The smaller one rebounded right back up, taking a few stumbling steps as Zonta rushed over to help. Worry tore at him, for even in the rainy dark he could tell the one still on the ground was dead, his head twisted in a very unnatural angle. Zonta said a quick prayer for the man and whatever family he might have had, it didn’t feel right, but there was nothing he could do, but he could help the other one.

“Are you alright?” Zonta asked “Do you…” He trailed off as he finally was able to see the smaller one clearly. His breath caught in his throat as he took in the sight of the dazed angle in front of him.

Long dark hair across his shoulders and face, with splashes of violet and red at the tips of his bangs, his lips were full and plump, but his lower lip was a bit fuller then the top, giving him a sort of a perpetual pout. His torso was covered in a strange white top, with straps, hoops and buckles hanging off of it, and a faded blue material covered his lower half tightly. His eyes were a rich blue and rounded ears sat on either side of his head, partly hidden by his hair.

But perhaps the most striking future of all was the strange looking flower on his face, a long green stem went across his right cheek, starting just at the edge of the middle of his jaw, half way between his chin and his ear, deep red thorns jutted out of the stem as his went across his cheek and over the bridge of his nose, but then right under his left eye sat the flower, it was a deep orange, with black spots and Zonta couldn’t quite place what type of flower it was, but he knew that it was beautiful.

“Human.” Zonta whispered. Oh this was perfect! Little Max would be so thrilled!

However in the middle of his excitement his brain decided to kick back in. The dark haired human had fallen from a great height, and if Max was anything to go by human’s did not like heights, not to mention his research had uncovered that even small falls by Kyashin standards could be fatal to them, but this one had fallen from almost twice the height Max had, it was a miracle he was even alive. It was probably the Kyashin he had landed on that had saved him…but what had happened to send them both out of the building like that…..and a building that he knew was supposed to be abandoned.
Zonta was liking this less and less.

“Where is he?!” A voice boomed from above him, and Zonta looked up to see the faint outline of someone leaning out of a window, the very same window Zonta guessed the large Kyashin and the Human had went out through, before shouting back to someone inside. “I can’t see a damn thing but someone is down there! Find the little shit, break his legs if you have to but get him back!” The head disappeared back inside.

Break his legs?

Break his legs?!

Why in the world would they want to do something like that?

Zonta looked back at the human, whose head had turned slowly upward to look at the source of the sound. Judging from the dazed look in his eyes and the sluggishness of his movements Zonta guessed the poor thing had a concussion. But now that the little one had turned his head Zonta could see the nasty bruise that blossomed on the side of his face, the blood matted in his hair on the back of his head, the Kyashin prince could also faintly see scars on the human’s throat and collarbone area, and he could also see that the human seemed to be favoring his ribs.

Abuse. Big time.

That much was clear….but that didn’t make any sense why would….

“It makes perfect sense. Think about it, who received little Max from slavers?” Zonta’s brain asked.

Well Shovak did…

“And who had owned this building?”
Shovak again….

Zonta’s stomach dropped.

Cursing himself for taking so long to figure it out Zonta focused himself back on the human, who had apparently decided he had stood their long enough, and was now clumsily trying to flee, slipping and nearly smashing his head off the ground once more. Anger spiked inside of Zonta, the poor thing was probably terrified, not knowing where he was or what was going on, just trying to escape the from whatever horror’s he had suffered.

In three bounding steps Zonta had caught up with the semi conscious human, scooping him up into his arms as he raced away from the building. The man made small noises but was mostly limp, probably just fighting to stay awake.

Zonta’s mind whirled, rapidly attempting to churn out a plan, he needed to get them to shelter and try to communicate with the man, it was likely that he didn’t speak Hinta, but Max had taught Zonta a little bit of his language, it was rough but Zonta hopped he knew enough to inform the man he was a friend and wished to help.

Zonta was careful not to jostle the man, or lose the case that was strapped to his back, he wasn’t sure what it was or what was in it but he wasn’t about to deprive the man of his personal belongings. After racing a good sized distance away from the Shovak building and coming into a narrow alleyway Zonta set the man down as gently as he could on a stack of shipping pallets. The human had passed out, which concerned Zonta, but his breathing was steady and he didn’t appear to be bleeding from his head any longer, a quick ear press to his chest revealed to Zonta that his heart was still beating steadily. So he hoped that was a good sign….

He loathed to leave the man alone, but he wanted to make sure they had not been seen and followed this far. These disgraceful Kyashin might be looking for a little human but Zonta didn’t think they knew about him, even if the window head had seen him, he obviously didn’t get a good look. So he could do a little checking without being hassled and then head back, depending on whether or not they were still being pursued he would plan out their next course of action then.

As Zonta made his way through the twisting alleyways his mind began to tick away, it would not do to simply blow off his meeting, despite the circumstances he doubted that the parties involved would be pleased and conflict would arise. No he couldn’t have that, still….technically he was not even expected until tomorrow afternoon, he had just wanted to get it done and over with as soon as he could, but now…hmmm.

He would have to secure them a room for the night, hopefully the human did not require medical attention, he didn’t want to bring more people into this then he needed to. Max had seemed to do better with only Kasan around him, so perhaps this one would be the same? Give him time to get used to a Kyashin, and give Zonta time to show him that they weren’t all out to cause him harm.

Just the idea of some ruffian beating on the poor little human made Zonta’s ears bristle.

Alright, so get a room, try to communicate, see what the man knows, or at least what he can tell and then Zonta could hide him away during his meeting, get that over with, and then haul ass all the way back home. It was far to much of a coincidence for yet another human to pop up and just happen to have connections with his uncle, Shovak had probably acquired him at the same time as Max, who knew why he chose Max to go to Kasan instead of this one.

In Zonta’s opinion the new human was even cuter, especially with that strange looking flower on his face, Zonta had to wonder if it had texture to it as well, he doubted it was natural…but who knew? He was a bit bigger then Max too, thicker all around….

“Why don’t you focus on what needs to be done?” Zonta chided himself, the little human’s life could be at stake and here he was acting like some kind of heat stricken fool.

After a bit of searching Zonta decided that they had not been followed, at least not in force and he was really getting anxious about the human being all alone, he was totally defenseless! What if he woke up or someone stumbled across him?

Quickly Zonta retraced his steps, hurrying back to the double hair colored human, relief flooding his system to find him right where Zonta had left him. The man had rolled over onto his side, curling up slightly, which was both cute and vulnerable looking, and it had to be a good sign right? He wouldn’t be moving if he was to terribly hurt. Zonta’s studies had shown the human skeletal system to be much like a Kyashin’s….but there had been warnings that it was not as durable as their own, and that had been a very serious fall.

But Zonta’s relief quickly melted into worry as he caught sight of another man approaching, Zonta was still closer to the human however and maybe the man was just a passer by.

That idea flew right out the window as the new Kyashin, who was smaller then Zonta himself the prince noted, grinned triumphantly and began to jog towards Zonta’s human. Reaching the unconscious man first Zonta cocked his head to the side as if he wasn’t sure what he had come across.

“Stay away from it brother!” the approaching man warned.

“What is it?” Zonta asked, feigning confusion as the smaller Kyashin came to a stop near him.

“Some type of mutant! Be careful, its already killed two of our brothers.” The man said. Zonta made his eyes go wide as if shocked and began to back away cautiously. He needed to cease this man’s interference…he just needed the opening…

“Oh my…” Zonta gasped.

“Yes, so stay where you are brother, I will take this thing back to be locked up properly.” The man said as he stepped in front of the human. Out of the corner of his eye Zonta spotted a rusty metal bar resting on a filthy ledge near him. Bingo…

As soon as the other Kyashin was no looking Zonta reached out to grasp the bar, inwardly flinching as his fingers squished into the grime that covered it. The smaller Kyashin turned his back on Zonta completely as he bent over to pick the human up.

“Mistake.” Zonta thought as he brought the bar crashing down onto the back of the other man’s head. Hard.

A sickening thud echoed thought the alley as the wretch collapsed in a heap.

“Your certainly no brother of mine.” Zonta sneered. Tossing the now bent bar away Zonta wiped his hand off in the hair of the unconscious Kyashin, served him right, though he was glad that he had not killed the man, the last thing he wanted was to have to explain where a corpse came from. Besides he wasn’t keen to have blood on his hands anytime soon….

Scooping up the human up once more Zonta began to quickly make his way through the alley, there could be more coming after all. As he jogged he scoffed at the now severely concussed Kyashin’s words.

The adorable little creature in his arms a killer?

HA!

How ridiculous….

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Zonta shook his head as his entered through a doorway, wet ears again! He hated that….

The woman at the counter smiled at him, they knew him here, he had stayed here many times, so he didn’t have to worry about not being able to get a room.

Shifting the bundle in his arms Zonta flashed his best smile as he approached her, he had already wrapped his little human up in his cloak, hiding him from view.

“Prince Zonta.” The woman, who Zonta was ashamed to admit possessed a name he could NEVER remember, greeted him. She stared curiously at the covered human in his arms, so clearing his throat Zonta prepared to lie. Which he hated to do.

“The little one somehow managed to swipe a bottle of tanga, guess he wanted to try and prove he was a man, I wonder if he is prepared to deal with the consequences tomorrow.” Oh please let her believe this was one of his bother’s children or something like it, please let her believe he had in fact stole a bottle of the most potent liquor Zonta could think of and NOT think that he was a little alien from a race that was supposedly died out long ago.

Zonta smiled as she chuckled.

“Kids…I take it you will be needing a room?” She asked.

YES!!

“Yes please.” Zonta affirmed. As she turned to a set of hooks to get Zonta a pass-key the red haired Kyashin had to wonder just how he was going to reach his money pouch and keep the receptionist from discovering just what REALLY was under his cloak at the same time, it was still not widely known that Kasan had taken a human for a consort, Zonta wasn’t sure how people might react and he couldn’t help but flash back to all the chaos that had occurred at Kasan and Max’s Greeting.

Yeah…he did not need that.

As the woman turned back to face him Zonta had to ask.

“How much?” He would have to somehow balance the human on his shoulder, he didn’t dare try to set him on the counter, the woman could mess with his cloak or the human could move, he had stirred a few times on the walk there, and uncover himself.

“There is no charge young prince, you know that.” A gruff male voice suddenly spoke, Zonta looked up, spotting a face he did recognize, Zuma, the mate of the woman at the desk.

“It just doesn’t feel right.” Zonta began, he had been so preoccupied that he had totally forgotten all about Zuma.

“Nonsense.” Zuma insisted. “The honor of having a member of the royal family within our establishment is payment enough.” Zonta opened his mouth to speak but before he could get a word out Zuma’s consort whispered to him.

“Its no use arguing with him prince, you know this.” Zonta nodded reluctantly and began to proceed down the hall, following Zuma, after being beckoned by the older man.

“Has you business in our town gone well?” Zuma suddenly asked after they were away from his consort.

“It had..” Zonta replied.

“Oh? Passed tense young prince.” Zuma said and Zonta winced, Zuma was very perceptive, not much got passed him. Zonta would have to be cautious here….or perhaps…..he could use that.

“Yes…I ran into a rather unsavory presence.” Zonta confessed.

“Unsavory you say.” Zuma muttered, his voice turning to steel. Zuma had been a good warrior and a fine trainer of men before age and injury had forced him into retirement, but he was still not one to trifle with. “And you were inconvenienced by this presence?”

“Slightly, but not much chance was given.” Zonta informed. “Though I would very much like to not be bothered by such things again.”

“Mmmm…” Zuma grunted. “Well then young prince I think I have just the room.” Zonta watched in rapt fascination as Zuma touched a camouflaged panel on the wall, causing a hidden door to slide open. Zonta shot Zuma a look, who merely shrugged and said. “Once a solider always a solider.”

Zonta chuckled as he walked inside, placing the little human gently on the bed, being careful to keep him covered, the little human and twitched in his arms several times, Zonta hoped that meant that he was alright and would awaken soon.

“Press here to summon one of us should you need something.” Zuma said, gesturing to a panel near the bedside table. “And….should you become curious.” Zuma explained as he slid back a little panel on the wall, signaling for Zonta to exam it. Zonta rose from his place at the human’s side and made his way over to it, then he realized it was a peephole of sorts, pressing his face close to it Zonta grinned as he was given a perfect view of the main lobby from behind the desk.

“Not normal décor to be sure.” Zonta whispered.

“But handy.” Zuma beamed.

“Indeed.” Zonta agreed as he stepped away, sliding the plate back into place. Still covered with Zonta’s cloak the human stirred once more, groaning softly. Zonta froze, trying not to glance over and give anything away. Zuma gave the little bundle of hidden human a curious look.

Tanga eh? Something tells me it’s a little more then that.” Zuma said. “But I do not wish to intrude, however I would like to know if my establishment is in danger.”
Zonta was torn, he did not want to get into it with anyone, it was dangerous, especially to the poor human, but Zuma did have a right to know that trouble had been brought under his roof. But what could he say without giving everything away? After a little thought Zonta whispered.

“Slavers…”

Zuma’s ears flattened against his skull as his eyes widened.

“What?!” The aged solider hissed. Zonta nodded.

“There is an ongoing investigation, I fear this man is caught up in it..”

“You need say no more prince, I will do whatever I can to aid you.” Zuma vowed much to Zonta’s relief, it was nice to see that were was still decency in the world.

“Is there anyway I might be able to contact my family?” Zonta asked, he would feel a lot more secure if he had some kind of backup, his brothers would be nice as well. Zuma however shook his head sadly.

“I’m afraid this storm is much worse north of here, and its somehow wrecking all manner of havoc on our communications, you’d be lucky to be able to contact anyone in this area, let alone so far away.”

Crap…

Zonta sighed, well there went that idea.

“I cannot leave just yet, my business here is very important, but I think I can conclude it either late tomorrow or the next day and then I must be on my way home, I will probably have to hide the little one until then.” Zonta said. “But what I do with him will depend on how well I can communicate with him.”

“Will it be difficult?” Zuma asked.

“It appears he had been abused, I even noticed scaring, by Kyashin no less, so I am unsure of how he will react to me.” Zonta answered. The red headed Kyashin could hear bones popping in Zuma’s hands as he clenched them tightly.

“Bastards..” Zuma snarled. “Fear not…I think I can have a transport ready for you the moment it is required.” Zonta chewed on his bottom lip, it was risky to leave the little human alone, Zonta wasn’t sure how he might react, Max had tended to say within Kasan’s room, but this one had obviously been trying to escape, and Zonta wasn’t sure he knew enough of the language to properly explain the plan to him. “Well I think I will leave you to get some rest.” Zuma said as he moved to leave the room.

“Zuma.” Zonta called out, causing the silver haired man to stop and turn to face him. “On my behalf and that of my charge, I thank you.” The ex solider simply smiled.

“No thanks are needed, I know the meaning of loyalty and honor.” Zuma said, and then he was gone, the secret doorway closing behind him.

Turning back to the human Zonta wondered when he had started thinking of the man as his charge, though it did make sense, he had found him after all, and it was obviously his uncle who had drawn the poor man into all of this, it was only right that he take responsibility.

Uncovering the man, Zonta positioned him more comfortably on the bed, the human muttered something Zonta couldn’t understand, Zonta was getting worried, should he have remained unconscious for so long? Bending down Zonta buried his face into the crook for the smaller man’s neck, inhaling deeply, the scent of Argenta lingered on the man, ah ha….so that was it, the human was still working the drug out of his system. Though if the man still had that much of the drug in his system…how had he been up and moving around? Clearly this one had something of a high tolerance….an extremely impressive one at that.

Pulling away Zonta stood up, but not before he reached out and brushed the a few of the dark strands of hair away from the man’s face.

“You really are quite the looker my friend.” Zonta whispered, though he really needed something to call the human, thinking of him as -the human, the man- and all that was getting a little old. “How about Nikea? He was a hero in a story I remember reading years ago, an pure angel with unrelenting determination. I think that fits quite nicely, don’t you?” It had been one of his favorite stories, and he was saddened when he had finally reached the end of all the tales, Nikea had indeed been an angel, he wasn’t the biggest, and he wasn’t the strongest, but he always found a way, noble of heart and pure of beauty, and for a creature who had managed to escape despite being drugged and surrounded by beings much larger and stronger then himself, Zonta could think of no better name for the little human. Not to mention Zonta wasn’t sure if he had ever seen such a beautiful face before…

Cracking his neck Zonta looked around the room, nothing much to do until Nikea woke up and Zonta didn’t have any books to read or anything like that, so he decided to get cleaned up, it wouldn’t do to try and converse with little Nikea while covered in dirt and sweat from their little alley dash.

Turning to the panel that would uncover the shelves that held the necessary items Zonta suddenly remembered he hand never grabbed his back that he had dropped when he first saw Nikea and the Kyashin falling.

“Well there went my extra clothing, good thing that was all that was in there.” Zonta muttered, oh well perhaps Zuma would have something he could borrow, or he could just wear what he had on.

“You won’t care will you Nikea? I can wear whatever and you’ll be happy right?” Zonta asked the man. It was strange but he almost couldn’t wait for the man to wake up, he was rather excited by the prospect.
