"So Maverick, what is it with you and knives," Sarah asked as she cleaned her gun. "Guns are much quicker and deadlier at long range."

"I'm faster than bullets. And it's a lot easier to use a knife when you don't have to worry about keeping up with you," he said as he sat down next to Lana.

Sarah smirked at that. "Before this trip is over I'd like to see which is better. My guns or your knives."

"I don't fight against anyone who doesn't mean me or other people harm. I will not 'play' with you," he said softly.

"Boy have you changed."

"Changed? How so?" That peeked her curiosity a bit.

"Back in the old days, he was just like me. Laid back and ready to 'play' as he calls it," Evana said with a smirk. "We use to have so much fun."

"Having a child changes a person, I would think," Lana said softly.

Maverick smiled. "You would be right."

"I guess it would," Sarah said thoughtfully. Shaking the thoughts from her mind, she smiled as she sat down her gun. "So what are your stories? How do you two know each other?"

"We met as teens. Back when the city was really bad and there was way more crime. I was the one doing the stealing he was the one playing super hero. I broke into his house, but ended up getting kicked out and cut up really nicely." She stood and pulled her dress down over his shoulder. "He caved his name in me. I still have the scar though it's faded a lot and hard to see. Of course, being the girl I was, I had to go back and even the score," she said then sat down. "I broke in again, but he ended up getting the better of me once more. Next thing I know we are naked and in his bed."

"Evana..." Maverick said as he looked at her. "They didn't need to know every detail."

"Anyways," she said rolling her eyes, "eventually, he got so use to me breaking in that he just left the door unlocked. I'd come in, we would do the deed then I'd leave. Then he asked me to lunch. So we went to lunch and found that we both had a gift. A short time later, he offered me a place to crash if I helped him keep the street clean. A lot of thieves and Raiders died at our hands. Blood lust took us over. We ended up crashing bars for a drink and would leave with innocent people dead."

"It was a long time ago," Maverick said. "After a few nights of that, our company together just seemed dulled. She went her way and I went mine. I met Angelia's mother and the past came exactly what it is, the past."

Sarah just smirked and smiled. "The innocence...or the ignorance of you. You sound a lot like Sven and I when we were younger. Though we never really played the heroes."

"We only played the hero for so long before we got bored."

"And that was why it was better for us to go our separate ways. We were killing innocent people just for something to do. Those people had families and loved ones," Maverick said as he refilled his cup.

Evana nodded. "It was later that I realized that killing innocent people wasn't as much fun as we thought it was when we were drunk. I decided to keep my hands busy other ways."

"Oh? Did you pick up a hobby?" Lana asked with a smile.

"Sex."

Lana blushed and looked away. "Oh..."

Sarah nearly doubled over in laughter. "I knew I liked you for a reason," she said with a small chuckle.

Evana shrugged. "I like sex about as much as I like killing. Man or woman it's all good as long as it's done right."

Lana fisted her skirt. She couldn't stop blushing.

"If that's the case, then you and I might get to know each other a lot better than I had previously though," she teased.

"Sure, I'm open to a little fun. As long as there are no strings."

"Evana, please keep your private talks private. Not everyone wants to know who you spread your legs for," Maverick sighed as he looked at Lana's discomfort.

Evana smirked and placed her hand on Lana's red cheek. "You are more than welcome to join if you want. I could teach you a few things."

Maverick smacked her hand off Lana. "She's a child. Don't corrupt her."

"It's a tough world, Maverick. It's the ones who are sheltered which are usually the first to be corrupted or the first to fall," Sarah said softly.

"As long as she is here with me then I will protect her from those things to the best of my ability. I need to have hope that not all innocence can so easily be lost in this world," he said.

"Fair enough. Everything needs something to hold on to. Just make certain that you have something to fall back on. This world can taint anything pure."

"I'm smart enough to know that but optimistic enough to know that everything can be changed."

"That either makes you stupid or brave I guess." She shrugged and stretched. "Either way...I hope you're right."

"It matters little if I'm right or wrong in anyone's eyes. What matters is that I believe in it," he said with a smile.

Lana looked at him, her heart pounding. She had never met anyone like Maverick before.

Sarah had a small smile on her face as he said this. "You remind me a lot of Sven when he was younger. Back before he sold out his morals for his cash."

"I have enough cash. My morals cannot be bought."

"There is more than one way to corrupt someone morals than to sell them."

"For the sake of my daughter, my morals will not waver."

"Good." She put a clip into her gun and smiled. "Because if they do I'm going to shoot you."

"You can try. But you will fail," she smiled. Standing he stretched. "I think I will call and check up on her. I'm sure she misses my voice," he said then excused himself and walked to the other room.

"So how was it with him?" Sarah asked once he was gone. "He seems like the kind of guy you couldn't forget once you've been with him."

"To this day, he was the best I've ever had. That speed coming in great handy," Evana said as she smiled at the old memories. Lana shifted in her seat. This was not what she wanted to talk about.

Sarah shuddered as she thought about it. "I bet it was," she sighed. "I bet he's big too."

Evana nodded. "Maybe if you play your cards right he'll let you play with it," she said then laughed.

Sarah smirked. "Well, I'm a girl who knows how to get what she wants." Her lips curled up as she thought about him. Yes, that would certainly be fun.

"Don't!" Lana said quickly then blushed. The girls looked at her. "He's...a good man, I mean..."

Sarah smirked. "You mean that you want to be the one to sleep with him."

"I....I-I didn't say that," she blushed and stuttered.

"I hate to tell you, sweet heart, but he's too much of a man for you."

Sarah tried not to laugh. "Not only that, but I think that you're too young for him. The way he treats you is more like a daughter than a possible lover."

"I can change! I mean...I'm not a child....I'm not so innocent..." she said.

"Maybe not, but that's the way he seems to see you."

"How do I...get him to see me like an adult?"

Evana laughed. "I'm so not touching that and having him come after me later."

Sarah smirked and shook her head. "When you're older you'll understand, but I'm not going to stick my neck out on this one either."

She stood and nodded. Slow she walked outside and looked around. Seeing Skyla and Maven talking in the tree she walked up to it and looked up at them. "Skyla...I have a favor..."

Skyla jumped down. "I'll help anyway I can."

"I...need you to try and look into my future..." she said nervously.

Skyla's eyes grew big. "Lana...the future could always change... Even if I was successful...there is a big chance that it could change and what I tell you might not be true at all."

"I don't want you to look to far...just a few weeks at the most..."

Maven leaned down and listened, curious as to what she could be asking of her.

Skyla sighed. "If I do this...I could really strain myself." Lana bit her lip and Skyla's face softened, seeing the desperation in her eyes. "Alright. I'll try." She looked around. "I need to be somewhere quiet."

"We can go to the room," Lana suggested.

"Alright."

Maven jumped down from the tree when he realized they were going to leave. He wasn't rude enough to invite himself, so he'd just go find Maverick or Sven to hang out with. Not that he expected either one to really want to hang out, but it would give him something to do.

Lana looked back at Maven. "Aren't you coming?"

"Uh, I just figured that whatever it was that you were going to ask was personal," he said as he ran his hand through his hair.

"I figured you wanted to see her try to look into the future..."

"Well yeah, but I didn't want to butt my nose into your business," he said calmly.

"I don't mind," she said and walked inside behind Skyla.

Maven just shrugged. "Okay." He began to whistle softly as he followed them inside.

Once they were in Lana's room, Skyla got on the bed and patted the spot in front of her. "I've never tried to look into someone's future, just the future in general. But every time I worked too hard, I passed out so we should be on the bed."

Lana nodded and sat in front of her. "I think that the closer I am to you, the easier it is. So let's try holding hands." Their hands came together and Skyla closed her eyes.

Sitting down on the bed adjacent from them, Maven watched with curious eyes.

For a long moment they just sat in silence then Skyla opened her eyes. "Anything?" Lana asked.

She shook her head. "Try to open yourself, like push your inner self towards me like a projection." Lana nodded. Skyla moved closer to her. Letting go of her hands, she wrapped her arms around Lana and laid her head on her shoulder. "Just relax and hold me." Lana nervously wrapped her arms around her and took a deep breath as she leaned her head against her.

Again, Skyla closed her eyes.

Maven leaned closer to watch this. The two girls were hugging now? What next? Would they start making out?

Skyla moved her face into Lana's neck and Lana closed her eyes, feeling Skyla's hot breath on her. Skyla's hands pulled her closer while her hands slid over Lana's back.

He swallowed hard. Okay. Just where was this going? He shifted as thoughts filled his mind. This could get hot.

"Lana..." Skyla whispered. "Hold me closer..."

Lana nodded and pulled Skyla tightly against her. They almost seemed like in another world. Almost like a dream. Skyla pressed her lips to Lana's neck. Almost instantly, she went limp in Lana's arms. Lana slowly laid her back on the bed.

"Skyla?" she said softly and lightly patted her cheek.

"What happened to her?" Maven said as he stood and walked over to them.

"I...don't know... Maybe she over worked herself and passed out..." Lana said as she moved her hand to her neck. "That was so...intense..."

"What did it feel like?"

"I don't know...almost like..." she blushed. "It was just very odd..."

"Almost like what?" He was curious, and the blush on her face didn't exactly help her case.

"Nothing," she said and looked away.

Skyla started to move then slowly her eyes opened. Lana and Maven looked down at her. "I did it...kinda..."

"Are you ok?" Lana asked and helped her sit up.

"Yeah, I'm fine...just cloudy."

"What did you see?"

"Well, I saw you start pack your things for the trip and I saw you talking and laughing with us. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary."

"Nothing about...Maverick?"

Skyla looked at her and smiled. "So that is what this is all for? Maverick?"

She blushed and looked away again. "I...really like him."

"I didn't see too much with him, but I only got pieces and it can always change..."

"So, have you told Maverick that you really like him?" That seemed like an obvious step to him if she felt so strongly about him.

"N-no!" she stuttered. "I couldn't!"

"Why not?"

"I'm not...a mean...he sees me as a kid..."
