"I can't believe that he's...gone," Sarah whispered. "He was so foolish.... But I never thought he would die like this."

"He gave me and Lana enough time to get to the Raiders. He sacrificed himself for us. It was an honorable death," Maverick said softly.

Hailey silently cleaned and wrapped Evana's hands then Evana stood. "We should keep moving. We need to get this done." She looked at Maven. "There is nothing but dead bodies, you can pull the pin out of her now."

Maven nodded slowly. His eyes never left Sarah until he was finally forced to look down at Skyla. Slowly he slid the pin out. Skyla didn't even react. She just laid there lifeless. Evana took Sarah's hand and pulled her into a comforting hug.

Sarah burrowed her face in Evana's neck. "Kiss me," she pleaded, wanting to feel something other than Sven's loss.

"Are you okay?" Maven asked as he cradled her body against him.

Evana looked Sarah over as she cupped her face. Evana wasn't one to cry but she knew she wouldn't hold anything against Sarah if she wanted to. Slowly her lips pressed to Sarah's. Lana turned her head.

Skyla stilled didn't move. He head tilted back and her body had no reaction.

Sarah pressed her lips roughly to Evana's, her arms wrapping around her neck, pulling them close. Sven couldn't be gone. He just...couldn't be."Hailey, I think something's wrong. She's not responding."

Hailey walked over to Skyla. She checked her pulse then her heart. "Her vitals are fine. She must be in a state of shock. Maybe her body locked up?" she said with a tiny voice.

"Is there anything you can do to fix it?"

"Well, Nanny Doc always said when I person is in shock the only thing you can do is wait. He said that the person is having a small nightmare and sometimes they are too scared to come out," she explained. "Um...what did he say again?" she said and tapped her head as she thought back. "Oh! Talking has been recorded to help those in shock, like coaching them through."

Evana rubbed Sarah's back. "Unfortunately, we don't have time for that. Pick her up so we can get back on track. We'll need to find a place to camp before dark."

He just nodded and scooped her up into his arms. "It'll be okay, Skyla," he promised.

Boris slammed his fingers into the concrete building. It probably wouldn't be permanent, but at least somewhere he would know that they were thinking about him. "Let's go," he whispered, the words 'For Sven', carved into the stone.

With hollow hearts and silent words they pressed on. Tired, sore, and dirty they walked until dark.

Maven laid Skyla down on one of the beds. Maverick had them stay at a hotel this evening, or what was left of it. They needed a good night's rest, and in such a large place, it would be hard for someone to find them. He gently stroked her hair, hoping that she would snap out of whatever had taken over her.

Maverick had Lana help him tamper with the pipes in the hotel until finally he got water running. "There isn't any hot water, but it's enough so we can wash off and shower," he told the rest of them.

"A shower sounds wonderful," Sarah moaned sweetly. "Then again...so does some vodka. Thanks Maverick."

"Sure," he said. He walked to one end of the hotel and stopped. "Lana, coming?"

Lana snapped her head to him. "Yes!" she said and hurried after him.

Sarah smiled as she watched her chase after him. "They're like a little couple already," she sighed.

"After what I saw today," Evana said as she started to one of the room, "I'd swear they were made for each other."

"Yeah. I could really see Lana as his little wife."

Evana smiled. She tugged Sarah in the room. "Come on, I'll take a shower with you."

Sarah's eyes widened and she smiled. "That sounds...really good," she whispered, her hands sliding to pull her dress off.

Lana flopped down on the bed after taking a shower. She dressed in her night clothes and waited for Maverick to come out of the bathroom. While brushing out her hair, Maverick walked out of the bathroom. He sat down on the bed, his back to her. "Lana, when we were out there, I couldn't help but noticed how different you seemed to be."

"What...do you mean?" she asked softly.

"You were smoother, more confident. In these short few weeks, you've grown up." Lana put her hair brush down. He turned to her. His hand went to her face and she blushed.

"To Sven," Sarah whispered as she downed some of the vodka while Evana got the shower running. Shaking her head, she looked back at her with a small, sad smile. "Do you want some?"

"No, I'm good."

Sarah nodded slowly and took another sip. "I just guess that I thought..." She shook her head slowly. "He said he was going to live forever. I've seen him walk through a hail of bullets and come out just fine. For him to go out this way.... I keep expecting him to burst in the door wanting to screw us."

Evana was growing annoyed. Did everything they talk about have to be about his death? She didn't talk about death. When a person died it was over, that was it. Nothing more. The End.

She could tell by the look on Evana's face that her grief was getting on her nerves. Fine. She could suck it up. She'd done that most of her life. Why not now? "So. How about that shower you promised?"

"It's ready," she said and pulled off her dirty clothes. She stepped into the shower, the cold water hitting her hard. It felt like needles but she didn't mind. She closed her eyes and let the dirty wash off her body. She took out her soap and shampoo.

Sarah stripped and followed in behind her. She moaned as the water hit her. It stung, but it felt good to be able to wash off again. She smiled as she grabbed at Evana's ass. Evana turned to her, taking her hands from her ass and handing her the soap.

Sarah looked at her, surprised by that.
"Are you...not in the mood?" That wasn't like Evana at all.

"I'm tired. It's been a long day. We lost someone and now I have to figure out how to get us to our goal and back in one piece. I have a lot on my mind," she said softly then kissed her cheek. "But it's not you. Trust me."

Sarah nodded slowly. "Good. Normally it takes people at least two weeks to get bored of me," she teased.

"If I was bored of you, you would know."

"Okay," she said. She'd been hoping for something more, but she didn't let on. Evana seemed to have a lot on her mind so she wouldn't push it.

After rinsing off, she kissed Sarah's sweetly before getting out. Evana dried off and changed then collapsed on the bed. Sarah stayed in the shower a few minutes longer before getting out, dressing and collapsing beside her. Evana pulled her into her chest and closed her eyes. What a horrible day.

Sarah smiled and snuggled into her chest.
"If you want to talk...I'm here."

"If I wanted to talk, you would know."

"Of course..."

Lana turned to look at Maverick as he slept. Hours before she swore he was going to kiss her, but he only dropped his hand and said goodnight. She moved closer to him and sat up. Moving without a sound, she looked down at him. Slowly, her lips came over his. Gently, she left a sweet kiss before laying back down and rolling over to her side. Maverick's eyes opened.

Maven held her close as he tried to sleep. He had the tape over his mouth again since she couldn't fix him tea. He was worried about her, but holding her close helped to give him some comfort. Inside Skyla's head she was still constructing blocks. She was sorting through every memory, minute by minute just to find what was hers and what was not needed. Those that weren't needed, she locked behind a vault hoping to never see or have them come out again. It was a long process and painful. She felt numb. In his sleep, his lips pressed against her forehead. He smiled and pulled her on top of him, loving her warmth.

In the morning, everyone packed up and started out. Evana looked at Skyla.
"With her like that...she's nothing but dead weight. If we take her with us we will spend all out time protecting her. Same for Sarah without her trigger hand. We need two teams. One to stay behind and one to go with me."

"What? You want me to stay behind?"

"Only because I want you safe. If we get attacked again..." She sighed. "Look, to make sure that there are no more casualties, we need to be smart about this. Having some of you here and some of you with me insures that we can get to the destination and get back here then head home without having to worry about making sure everyone is safe."

Sarah didn't like that. She didn't like that she was being forced to stay behind. "Fine," she muttered. "I'll stay here with bird boy and her."

"Lana, I want you with me because I might need your gun. Maverick, you will stay with them. Boris is with me and Hailey stays. Maverick-"

"We have our coms. I'm not worried. I'll keep in touch."

She relaxed. But Hailey pouted and kicked things around.

"It's okay. We'll be back before you know it," Boris promised as he ran his hand through her hair and kissed her forehead.

"Listen. I'm not the mushy type...but I don't like staying behind where it's safe while you're fighting. So don't get shot. I don't want any bullet holes ruining your hot body when you get back," she as she looked at Evana.

Evana nodded.
"We will be back soon. Try to keep quiet and take turns looking out. If anything happens, don't be stupid. Run, damn it." She walked out, Boris and Lana behind her.

Sarah looked back at Maverick and sighed.
"Well this sucks."

Maverick sighed. "But it's for the best. When we get back to Xavier's, it will be like this until your hand is healed."

"Oh hell no. I'm not just sitting on my ass for a couple of weeks while you guys go risk your lives."

"And what will you do, Sarah? Yell at the Raiders when they attack?"

"If I have to...."

"You will be staying behind. Think of it this way, when you wanted Maven and Skyla to stay behind, this is exactly how they felt. Doesn't feel so nice to be called all this way then to be told you are useless, does it?"

"That's different. They're just kids who can't fight. I can."

"Maven is twenty-two. Not much younger from you. And you can't fight either."

"Don't test me Maverick. I still have one hand that I can use. That's plenty. Even if Maven is twenty-two we both know that mentally he's not."

"Get hot headed all you want, Sarah. The facts won't change and Evana sees that. Otherwise she would have told you to come. If we held another vote, you would be staying behind with them at Xavier's."

"Whatever," she muttered. "She's the one who made me to where I can't shoot. She better as hell come back alive...."

Maverick stood. "Take Skyla back to the room, Maven. Hailey, come on. Let's find something for you to do. Maybe we can find some crayons." Hailey smiled and took his hand happily.

Maven nodded slowly.
"Sure thing." He noticed how Sarah looked. Like a child who lost her best friend.

Evana looked at the digital map. She then looked at the building in from of them.
"Library of Congress...this is it," she said. Lana made sure her gun was loaded as they walked up the steps.

Boris took a step back as he heard something loading up.
"Is it just me or does it sound like a weapons powering up?"

"Oh, fuck me!" she yelled. "Move!"

Boris grabbed them and pulled them back against the stone wall just as an energy blast ripped through the spot where they were standing.

"This...isn't good..."

"No shit."

"Stay low," Boris said. Grabbing the edges of the stone wall, he groaned as the stone broke apart. As he moved it, he located the source of the energy blast. It was an armored military guard.

"Halt!" He charged up his gun again, but the stone slab slammed into him with crushing force.

"He was just one. There will be others."

"We need to move and get what we came here for."

"Agreed."

"Boris, let's make a door," she said and slammed her fist into the wall.

Boris smirked and nodded.
"That I can do." His fist slammed into the wall, cracking it. With another powerful swing, the wall was all but decimated beneath his might.

They ran in and Lana pointed to a jack.
"There!"

Evana plugged up Xavier and when he popped on the screen she glared at him. "Better be quick and tell me what the hell we are here for!"

"Ooooh! Look at all the books! They're still in good order. Mind going down to the secure vaults to get me some of their more precious items?"

"Do you have any fucking idea what we lost getting here!? I don't have time for this you ass hole!"

"Actually that wasn't a joke. I need you to go down to the secure vaults. That's where they keep the good files. Where is everyone else?"

"I had to leave the others behind. And Sven...is dead. Skyla's body has gone in shock." She pulled the computer along to the vault and ripped the door off. "What am I looking for?"

"Sven. That is a shame. He wasn't finished yet.... Oh well. You're looking for-"

"This..." A box slid across the ground, bloody hand prints were on it.

Evana smiled while Lana's mouth dropped.
"Well I'll be damned. Bastard."

Sven slowly stood. There were large gashes across his chest, legs, and a huge blood stain on his crotch. "Don't happen to have any smokes on you do you?" He winced with every step he took.

She walked over to him and cupped his face.
"Reckless ass hole." She pressed her lips to his with a hungry kiss. After a few moments she parted with him and picked up the box. "See you soon," she said before unplugging Xavier. "Boris, get the gimp. Let's go."

"I knew you loved me," he smirked. He nearly screamed when Boris picked him up. "Fuck...easy. I left more skin at the building then I have on me."

"It is good to have you back comrade! We all feared the worst!"

Luckily, the way back to the hotel was easy. The sun was going down so there was a lot of shadows to hide in.

"Is there anyone here who knows first aid that isn't an six year old munchkin?" Sven moaned.

Hailey grabbed her bag.
"Do you want me to paralyze you again?"

"Welcome back, Sven."

"Sven!?" Sarah looked out her room. "You're alive! You bastard!" She walked up and slapped him. "Damn you!"

Sven winced and smiled. "Evana gave me a kiss and you slap me? What's up with that?" He stopped as Hailey looked at him with her bag. "Uh...nothing against you...but my...stuff...was really fucking hurt in that blast. I'd rather not have a little girl touch down there. I'm a perv, but even I'm not that pervy."

She shrugged. "Nothing I haven't seen."

He winced as he was set down a bed. "What is an eight year old girl doing looking at men's junk?"

"Medical research!"

"You get his body and I'll look at his man hood ok?" Hailey nodded and set to work on him.

Sven closed his eyes and tried not to wince as she pulled his pants down and took his shirt off. The area near his crotch was burned and heavily damaged. It was hard to tell that there was anything left of his manhood at all.
"How bad is it?" he asked, biting his lip.

"Bad..." Evana said.

"Move," Hailey said and pushed her out of the way. "Second degree burn." She pulled out a needle.
