"Xavier!" Sarah yelled as they pushed open the door. "We need help! Hailey you take Sven to the operating room and get that bullet out of him."

Boris looked at them, not saying a word as he went down to the supply room where Sven kept his extra ammo. They were going to need it all.

"You're talking about Shepherd taking Maven and Skyla, that is unfortunate," he sighed.

"Of course you know," Maverick groaned. "X-Ray Alpha Victor Indigo Echo Romeo 122352. Another words X-A-V-I-E-R," Maverick said with narrow eyes. Lana gasped and Evana glared at him.

Sarah stopped as she heard that.
"What..."

Xavier sighed and pushed his glasses up his nose. "This is...regrettable."

"Start talking or I swear I won't stop Evana from beating it out of you," he said darkly.

"You do realize that this could be a simple coincidence."

"We are not that slow," Evana snapped.

He took off his glasses and pushed his hair back, his entire demeanor changing as he pushed his glasses into his shirt pocket. Thrusting his hands into his pockets, he shrugged.
"Fine. What do you want to know?"

"Everything. Now."

"I was the first so to speak. I'm a natural genius. Well, unnatural actually. I was born in the radiated zone. Needless to say I was born with high levels of radiation which stimulated my brain light years beyond most people's."

"Go on."

"Shepherd found me when I was seven. I was already doing genetic experiments. With his help I expanded them. I created the Xenomorphs." He smiled at the fond memories. "After many failures I created the perfect killing machine. Maven. Perfect beauty. Perfect skills. Perfect abilities. Shattered mind. Unleash him on a city and not a single soul would survive."

"Heartless."

"Not at all. I was creating the next evolution of humanity."

"To kill other humans. Heartless."

"I didn't kill them. I just created the weapon to kill them. Do you hold the person who created your knife responsible for the lives you take with it?"

"That's not the same. You created a living being."

"A living being? No. He had no free will. No emotions. He was a doll."

"Then what happened?"

"Shepherd and I had a disagreement after the D.C. massacre. I wanted to terminate the project. My doll was perfect, but he couldn't reach his true potential under Shepherd's control. After starting a few more projects for him, we got into a fight and went our separate ways."

"And what of Maven? Obviously he became more than a doll...enough for Skyla to see something in him. Or is she another one of your creations too? And Lana as well?" Lana's breath was caught.

Xavier looked at her and sighed.
"She and Skyla were works in progress. They are nothing more than children in terms of power. They weren't nurtured and trained properly." He deliberately avoided his first question.

Lana looked down. Maverick pulled her chin up.
"You are important to me. That's all that matters," he said softly. He looked back at Xavier. "Obviously, you are wrong about Skyla. Everyone knows the military enhanced Xenomorphs' powers by using drugs. Do you have any idea what Skyla can become if they did that to her? They would know everything before it happened. The world would be completely ruled by them just because she could see exactly what they could do to rule it."

"Which is exactly why I had hoped that she would never fall into their hands. I figured that you would need Maven to get into the facility; and Skyla needed to learn the truth about Maven. I never thought that Shepherd would be close enough to get to them."

"Her powers...how far did you extend them, Xavier?"

"I'm afraid that is out of my hands now."

"What do you mean? You don't know or that you don't want to admit it?"

"She was meant to be an army of sorts. A seer who could channel the powers of others. While her powers wouldn't compare to the original user, it would be very devastating."

His lips tightened. "Why the hell didn't you tell us all this before we started this!? It could have saved us so much trouble!" He calmed himself when he heard his child cry in the other room at his voice. "It's over now. And it's up to you to fix the mistake you made."

"I have cleaned up my mess once before and it did not end how I predicted," he told him.

"You are fixing this! Lives are at stake! You pulled them here to help you and you risked their lives!"

"All of which they did of their own free will. If I had wanted to control them I would have. Well, Maven at least. The control procedures were never initiated in Lana or Skyla."

"Fix this! You did this to them!" Evana threatened.

He smiled pleasantly as he put his glasses back on and ruffled his hair.
"And just what would you demand I do? Go in guns blazing? Sven has a tracker on them. Once Hailey finishes with Sven, you can get ready to go."

"No..." Lana said softly. Everyone looked at her. "You are coming this time. You made us what we are and it's because of you that they are being used for something so horrible. I don't care what you say. You are coming or I will drag your dead body there."

"Believe me when I say you want me to live a very long and prosperous life," he whispered.

"Then you are coming. Like it or not. You are coming!" she snapped and slammed her room door as she walked in it.

Maverick turned to him.
"What happened to Maven to become normal? Why did he suddenly stop being a doll and how did he get away?"

"He died."

Maverick nodded while Evana crossed her arms. "So we kill him. That can be done."

He smiled at that. "I'm afraid you took what I said in far too literal way. If you kill him. If you can kill him, then he will die. What happened that day was a fluke, or perhaps fate. Either way, in a million years it will never happen again. After the massacre, Farrah tried to get him to join the other Xeno's for a celebration. He kept staring down at the bloody teddy bear. She forced him to come, and finally he did. I watched this, wondering what would happen if he fought with anger. He killed because he could, not because he wanted to. What if he had anger fueling his power?"

"Unfortunately when I brought his emotions to the surface, I had no way of realizing the sorrow and guilt he felt for his murders. After slaughtering guards and most of the Xeno force he just fell to the ground crying. He paused as he closed his eyes. I can't quite describe what his face looked like in that instant. It is hard to describe something so pure and so tragic. He had never known emotion until that instant, and due to his past sins he wanted to die. It was for that reason that I took pity on him. He was my greatest work...but I couldn't keep him. I offered him a chance out. I asked him if he wanted to be free from us. To be free from anything we could ever do to him. He said yes, so I gave him a gun and wished him well. He took the gun without hesitation, put it to his head and pow."
He made the little hand motion to go along with what he was saying.

Skyla paced in the forest area. She looked at the door, pausing for a second, then paced again. She could break it down. She could run to him and use his mind, but what good would it do? She wouldn't be able to control him and get them out alive. Her hand went to her head. Xavier and the others were finally getting in the car. Or they would be in the next few minutes. It would take three days. Could she stall for three more days? They would keep drugging her. Doesn't matter. She would get stronger. She would use it against them when needed. Sitting in the grass, she focused on Maven. She missed him so much.

"Medicine time." He smirked beneath his mask as he walked toward her.

She smirked at him.
"Hello, Derek or do you prefer seventeen?"

"I prefer master to those," he replied.

"Blah blah," she said and pulled her shirt down over her arm.

He smirked as he walked over to her, a hand cupped her breast as he pushed the needle into her.
"You're so...fuckable."

She back handed him and he flew against a tree. "Don't do that."

He smirked, not that she could see. "This armor can with stand 15Gs of pressure. You're going to have to do better than that."

"I'm not trying to hurt you. I...don't...like hurting people," she said softly as she pulled her legs to her chest and the future flashed in her head.

"Oh come on. You hate me. You want me dead. I can see it in your eyes. Use it and give me your best shot."

"I know why you are doing this. Tell him I said I'm not testing myself on you. If he wants to know what I can do, he shouldn't bring me someone that I can predict. It's not a fair fight. I know exactly what you are going to do before you can do it. Please. Go away."

"You know everything do you? It seems that your powers have progressed well enough. Fine. Let's see how you fight someone you can't predict." He nodded and another guard entered.

She looked at the door.
"I won't fight. You will only hurt me. And it will lessen your chances to find the vault."

"Very well then." He walked over to the guard and undid his helmet so that she could see his face. "Kill her," he whispered.

Skyla sat there on the grass. She didn't move. Looking into the future, she could see Maverick driving. Soon.
He held his hand out watching her body rise from the ground. Her limbs stretched out and pressure was applied to her throat. Tears streamed down her face but she didn't react. Diving deeper in her head, she saw a door. That was new... Her brow wrinkled. Was it the vault? His grip tightened on her throat.

"That's it! Kill her! Choke the very life out of her."

She couldn't breathe and she was slowly fading. It was ok. She was ok. Death was part of life. She would return to the earth just as she meant to. "I forgive....you..." she whispered to Maven.

Ice rose up around Derek just as a blast was directed toward him. The force of which shattered the ice and sent him crashing through the door. The power which held her was suddenly gone, Maven's entire body trembled as he held his head.

"Damn it! Get Farrah now!"
he yelled, his mask broken and his suit almost crushed.

Skyla landed on her feet. Smiling she ran to him and placed her hands on Maven's head. Reaching in his mind she filled him with thought of her and of him. Of her promises and of...the future she had seen. A good future. A health beautiful future. Her lips pressed to his and she urged him to fight. To fight for himself and for that future. To fight because he could. Because he was good and because he was hers and she wanted him more than anything. She pushed it all in his head. Promising him better things if he just fault.

There was a snap, and suddenly he crumpled to the ground. Another guard entered, this one female. "Pity. I thought he could handle it. You have no tact. You just overloaded him with too many thoughts and emotions. It's going to take us a while to get him up and running again," Farrah said as she kicked his unconscious body.

Skla smiled and looked at Farrah.
"You are so very predictable, Farrah," she whispered. Reaching down, she pulled Maven's head off, wires came with it, revealing that he was a robot. "Everything I do...every little thing a say is all for a reason," she smiled. "I already knew this was going to happen." She dropped Maven's fake head.

Ice suddenly covered Farrah's body, her suit freezing. Before Derek could get up, Skyla threw her hand at him, and invisible force keeping him perfectly still
. "You see, I knew you would send this thing to me. And I knew the only way to get your here was to pretend that I thought he was the real deal." She punched the frozen suit on Farrah, it shattered. "And that pretty little suit to keep me from getting into your head...is useless now," she added as she backhanded Farrah had, the mask shattering. "You should be afraid, Farrah." Her eyes were hard and dark.

Flicking her hand, Farrah flew across the forest, hitting a tree. She screamed out.
"I know you are watching, Shepherd. I know you have cameras on me. I know everything. You want to see what power I have? The biggest mistake you made was letting your precious slave walk into my area." She flicked her hand again and Farrah was forced to her. Skyla backhanded her again, her jaw cracking as she landed on the ground at Skyla's feet. Skyla moved over her body as Farrah was forced to lay still.

"You look scared. You should be," she whispered. "But don't worry. I'm not going to kill you. I've already seen your death, Farrah. And just as I said before, you die alone and bitter, but not today. No...I need you alive." She grabbed Farrah's arm and crushed it turning her head as Farrah screamed and screamed. "Does it hurt? I'm glad. It should hurt." Her hands went to Farrah's head. "From now on, I don't care what you do to Maven. You just became my slave," she whispered and closed her eyes, pushing images and thoughts deep within Farrah's head. They were so deep and so carefully planted that Farrah would never see them. She would never know they were there. They weren't meant for her. They were ment for Maven. From this day forward, everytime she forced Maven to do something, everytime she used her powers against him, Farrah's mind would subconsiously transmit little pieces of Maven's past with Skyla to Maven. And little by little...Maven would see the real person he was.

Skyla pulled away from Farrah and stood.
"Run away, Farrah. Run anyway and cry."

Several darts stabbed into Skyla's back injecting her with the tranquilizer. As her body fell to the ground, invisible hands pulled Farrah out of the room, Derek joining her a second later. Four sets of black eyes stared down at her broke body. There was no emotion on their faces, they just went to work, scooping he up and taking her to the infirmary so that she could be healed.

Hours and hours later, Skyla finally woke. She knew what had happened and she knew Shepherd was going to be pissed. It was worth it. There was nothing they could do to stop her plan. They didn't know about it. But with Farrah now subconsciously feeding Maven his personality and the love Skyla had for him, it was only a matter of time before things would fall into place.

"She's awake."

"Leave us alone, Derek." Shepherd ordered. Derek nodded and quickly left the room. Shepherd looked down at Skyla and shook his head. "Why did you attack Farrah? What did you do to her besides break her body."

"Why else? She puts Maven in pain. I wanted revenge. Now I have it," she said as she stood on wobbly legs. Grabbing a tree for support, she knew she had changed so much. The drug they were giving her had changed her from her sweet innocent self, to a cold, harden women. It made her heart hurt more than anything. "I just wanted to beat the shit out of her."

"And the reason you said that you could get in her head. The part about you making her your slave?" Shepherd's eyes were cold, calculating and unrelenting.

She smirked.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" She held out her hand and an orange feel into it. "Perfect timing," she whispered. "Orange, Shepherd? It's very sweet."

"I'm not hungry," he stated bluntly. "And yes, I would like to know, but personally I would like to know the location of the vault first."

"Oh. Speaking of which. I saw it," she said as she peeled the orange. "I'll tell you what I saw if you let me see Maven."

"Fine." He started toward the door. Open opening it, he was handed a set of hand cuffs. He tossed them at her. "Put them on. They'll keep you from using your powers."

"I want him to be able to hold me. I want it to be worth the trip." She held the handcuffs in her hands. "You can be there if you want and bring anyone you like. I have no intention of playing with his head. I just want to be in his arms." Slowly she put on the cuffs. "Make it worth the trip and I'll even draw you a picture."

His lips curved slightly. "This will be worth the trip," he promised. He started down the hallway, not even paying attention to her. Not that she would do anything, the place was lined with guards. After getting into an elevator and going down to the bottom floor, they found themselves in an icy chamber. He entered the access code and two large doors opened.

Maven was sitting in a chair, his eyes covered with glowing optical wires. Computer wires were fed through his arms and legs, snaking through his body like veins.

Skyla sighed.
"Just as I saw..." she said softly. Walking over to him, she pushed some of the wires aside and curled up in his lap. With a small smile, she moved his arms around her and snuggled close.

"I rather like him this way. He's quiet. Doesn't talk back. Doesn't even think really. We don't even need to give orders. We just take his DNA and a few other things and program them into robots. Imagine, and entire legion of Mavens. No one could stop me."

"Shut up. You are ruining my moment. If you ruin it, I won't talk," she said with her eyes closed as she took in his scent. God she missed him.

Shepherd rolled his eyes. He reached over and started typing keys on one of the accompanying computers, watching as fluids traveled through the wires and into Maven's body.

Skyla pulled back a bit. Kiss his lips lightly, she tapped his nose with a smile.
"Soon. I promise," she whispered in his ear. Standing she slipped and orange slice in his lips. She forced him to chew then rubbed his throat to swallow. Smiling, she turned to Shepherd and patted his shoulder. "We go."

He gave her a pen and paper. "I want you to draw what you saw, and you better be a damn good artist."

She pushed it back to him.
"Too bad. I said make it worth my time. And instead you gave me...what was it that Xavier called it in his past..." she thought a moment and scanned Xavier's memories. "Oh right, a doll. I'll tell you, but you don't get a picture. You want something you have to give something."

"What exactly do you want?"

"Are you slow or do you just not listen when I talk?" she groaned. "I want time with him. It can be guarded time. You can have whoever you want there. I want time to be in his arms. Even if he is stuck being controlled. I want to talk to him. I'll even wear these stupid cuffs if you want. But I want him to at least listen when I talk too."

He sighed and closed his eyes. "Fine. I can take him off the machines for thirty minutes. You can have that time, but that is all."

"Good. I want to go back to the forest to finish my dress while you get him ready."

"Guards!" Four armed guards surrounded her, taking her back to her area while he began the preparations to get Maven detached from the machine.

Skyla's handcuffs were taken off just long enough for her to get out her dress. It was the dress she wore when she was forced to be part of this, but she had been fixing the tears and redoing some of the work on it to make it new and fresh. After she finished the last bits on it, she took off the ugly outfit she had been forced to wear and cleaned herself up. She put the dress on the covered her hair in flowers. Taking a deep breath, she finally felt like she was back in her forest. She felt more comfortable wearing her own things and the things nature made. She put the cuffs back on then sat in the grass and waited.

In fifteen minutes the doors opened and Maven walked through. He was shirtless, wearing only the pants that he had been wearing before and no shoes. His chest and arms were covered in bandages and IV's so that he could be easily hooked back up to the machine.
"I was told to see you."

She patted the ground in front of her with a smile.

He looked down at the ground, sighing as he moved slowly and tenderly toward her. It was obvious that he hadn't moved in quite a while. He sat down beside her as requested.

"It's pretty here, isn't it?"

"No. Not really."

"I'm sorry you feel that way." She pushed his hair from his face. "You look well considering."

"Considering what?"

"Everything." She moved closer to him and pressed herself against his chest. "Don't worry. I won't force you to sit here and talk. In fact, you don't have to say a word for the next thirty minutes. Just put your arms around me and I promise I'll be still. The time will go by fast and you can go back to your chair doing what Shepherd wishes of you."

He looked at her in his chest. "Okay. If that is what you wish." He slowly moved his arms around her and held her to him.

Just as she promised, she didn't move. She laid against him as her eyes closed and thought of everything that was to come. Every step she was about to make was going to put things in place. She was terrified, but she couldn't show it. She needed to be believable and trusted.

After thirty minutes, he moved and stood, gently pulling from her.
"My time is over."

"I know," she whispered softly. "Goodbye."

He looked down at her and nodded. He didn't say a word. Instead he just went to the door, and exited down the hallway. He felt something. Something he could describe. He'd done what he was ordered, so why did he want to stay?
