Xavier's eyes were clouded with tears. "Please go," he whispered. "I need... to be alone." He was having a hard time controlling himself. That never happened, but right now...all those memories going through him were just too much.
"I am sorry, Xavier," Skyla whispered and walked out, closing the door behind her.
Xavier sighed and closed down his computer. He couldn't think. He couldn't focus right now. "I wasn't ready for that," he whispered.
Skyla looked out her window at Hailey chasing Boris around with a stick she found. She sat down on her bed. If she were Xavier...she would still choose to bring back Doc even knowing that Doc would only live for a year and that year not spent with him. But he would get three wonderful, perfect days with the man he loved...those three days could mean everything to someone who had tasted nothing.
Xavier didn't come out of his room that night. He didn't eat and he didn't plan on sleeping at all. He had Maven's corpse still on the table, but his eyes watched the slideshow of him and Doc when they were younger. "I was such a fool," he whispered. "Is there anyway that you could ever forgive me?"
In the middle of the night, Skyla knocked on his door but didn't wait for his answer before walking in. "There...is something I wanted to ask you. It wasn't fair for me to show you only one side of the story...I would like to show you a small piece of what your life would be like if you never brought Doc back. There is something very important I believe you should see."
"I would rather not," he said as he stared at his computer screen. "Seeing one future is more than enough."
"I realize that, however, I want you to know, your future without him...is very important. Please..."
He sighed. "Fine."
She moved to him. Her hand went to his head like before. She showed him a life with Hailey. She showed him how happy she was in the next year being with him. She showed in that in a three years time, he would meet someone by chance. She wouldn't show the face and she wouldn't give him a name, but she showed him that Xavier did fall in love and he spent a wonderful life with him. She showed him Hailey's wedding and her calling him Daddy when he walked her down the aisle. She showed him Hailey's first child and how because of Xavier being such a large part in her life, Hailey grew up happy and healthy. Slowly, she pulled her hand back.
"If you bring him back...Hailey's life will not be so fortunate," she whispered.
Xavier closed his eyes. "Is what you just showed me the truth?"
"Yes, that future will happen regardless if you bring Maven back or not. Hailey's life will be everything Doc ever wanted it to be and you will be very happy," she whispered.
"Give me three days," he whispered. "It will take me that long to get everything I need. I will bring him back. I owe him that much...."
Skyla wrapped her arms around his neck. "You will not regret this decision," she whispered.
"I doubt it," he whispered. "But I’m trying to atone for past sins. Maybe this will help."
"Later, the pain will go away. And every time you look at Hailey's face...you will know you made the right decision. At least for her..."
"Being human is far more complicated then dealing with machines."
"Seeing the future makes me feel about the same way," she said as she pulled back from him. "Goodnight, Xavier," she said. Kissing each of his cheeks she walked out of his room. Skyla stopped just before closing the door, she turned to him. "Xavier...he forgave you when he sent his precious daughter to you to take care of," she whispered. "Why else would he send her here?" Closing the door she went to her room.
Three days. Three long days of standing over a corpse and getting everything ready. He had to reattach his organs, heal them, and clone the pieces which weren't fitting. Once his body was whole, he had the real challenge. He sewed back up his chest. It had been a little over a week. He had no idea what would happen with the bacterial data. He let Doc die. Could he really save Maven? "Okay sweetie," he said softly. "It's time to play the lala game."
Hailey smiled in her little scrubs. She let him pull her hair back before putting a mask on. "I'm ready!"
"Good girl. There's a lot at stake, but I think we can pull it off."
"I always win!"
"Yes you do." He set up the machine, hooking chords into him as they started their game.
An hour later Hailey threw her hands in the air. "I finished round one first! Cookie!"
Xavier chuckled and shook his head. "When we finish you can have a bunch of cookies."
"Ok!" she said with a thumb up. She sang a little song while looking at the notebook and going over every step. She danced a bit where it said "Take a break, Hailey. Time to dance." Doc had left little things like that to make the whole process fun for her so she wouldn't get bored and quit before it was over. Xavier watched as she danced, a small smile going to his lips.
Skyla stood outside the room staring at the door. At times someone would say something to her, but she wouldn't move or say anything back. Instead, she listened to Hailey's song and waited until she would say. "Yay! I win that round too!" Of course, she would then do a victory dance for a few seconds then continue on.
"You're going to stare a hole in the door," Boris said as he placed a hand on her shoulder.
Skyla looked up at him. "Soon...very soon...just half an hour to go..." she whispered.
"Sit down. You already know the outcome."
"It doesn't matter... Until his eyes open...nothing matters."
"Okay." He left her, wondering if she'd even noticed that she had been talking to him.
She stepped closer to the door as the half hour went by. Hailey screamed out. "Lala lala lala! I win!"
Xavier watched as the last of the power and resources went out. "Let us hope," he whispered. With a flick of a switch, the energy surged through Maven's body. He kept his eyes trained on the monitor until there was the steady thump of a heart beat.
Skyla closed her eyes. She took a deep breath.
"Go on and get washed off. I can take it fromThat could have been Doc. He closed his eyes and leaned against the wall as he took of his glasses and set them down on the computer.
Hailey jumped off the little step latter and ran to the bathroom. Skyla leaned her back against the door. Now it was more waiting for him to wake.
"You can come in Skyla...."
"I'm...afraid to..." she admitted softly.
"I didn't bring him back so you could avoid him."
"Yes...I know..."
"Then come in...."
Slowly, she opened the door. She peeked in first the walked in and closed the door behind her. "Thank....you..." she whispered.
He just nodded. He couldn't find any words to say to that other then the obvious. "You're welcome."
Her feet moved finally and she walked over to Maven. Pushing his hair from his face, she tapped his nose. Maven's eyes opened, his black as night. He gasped for air, pain etching his face as he struggled to breath.
"It will take a while before he'll gain full control of his body and voice. Everything's attached...but his brain has been dead for quite a while."
"It's alright. I can fix the brain. The rest he will have to do on his own," she said softly.
"Be careful with your powers. His mind is fragile almost infant like. Too much and we could lose him again. I can't bring him back again."
"Yes...I know," she whispered. A hand went to his head. Closing her eyes, she connected her mind with his, slowly feeding him his own memories and his own life.
His eyes rolled back, at least one could assume that his eyes rolled back. His back arched as he all but lifted off the table.
"Easy," he whispered gently.
"This...is as slow....as I can go..." she said. "I'm...almost...done..." Seconds later she pulled back from him.
When she moved back he fell back to the table and closed his eyes.
"He'll sleep for a few hours..." she said.
"You're more than welcome to stay here with him. We probably shouldn't move him till he wakes up again."
"Thank you," she said and sat down.
He just nodded and left. He hadn't had a drop to drink since Doc left him. Now seemed like a good time.
Skyla eventually fell asleep in the chair. It was in the middle of the night when she woke up, sensing Maven. She looked at him, stroking his face softly. "Maven."
He looked up at her with wide eyes. He opened his mouth to speak, but try as he might no matter what he did his voice was only making hollow sounds. He frowned, wondering why his throat wouldn't do what he wanted it to.
"Remember when I went into shock? And it was hard for me to talk? Well...right now you are going through the same thing almost, just much worse," she said.
He closed his eyes and nodded very slowly. Everything hurt but it felt numb at the same time. He couldn't move, but he was doing everything he could to get his limbs to even respond. He sighed and opened his eyes to look at her. He had a million questions and no way to ask them. The last thing he remembered was pain. Everything she had given him was fragments and hard to understand. His brain felt heavy and his thoughts were slow.
She crawled on the table with him. She cuddled next to him. "I'll wait in silence...for you to talk," she whispered.
He closed his eyes as he felt her warmth rub against him. He was still cold, but feeling her so close to him made him feel better. He smiled slowly.
She wrapped an arm around him. "Rest...I'll be here when you wake up."
He nodded against her. Resting sounded nice. His thoughts were too slow, his head hurt too bad, and his body needed to rest and recharge.
Skyla fell asleep on him. The next morning, Lana and Evana were asking questions when she came out to fix something for Maven to eat. She gave them an update then went back to the room. Going to the table, she sat him up and moved behind him, propped his back against her chest. She sat the bottle of soup on his lap. "This should be easy to eat," she whispered in his ear and brought the spoon to his lips.
He opened his lips and let the warm liquid trickle down his throat. Almost as soon as it hit his stomach, his eyes widened. He gagged as his body shook and he fell forward, throwing the liquid back up.
Skyla held out her hand. The liquid stopped in mid air and she moved it to the trash can then set the soup aside. "I'm...sorry..." she said softly and rubbed his back.
He coughed once more and closed his eyes. "I...t....ok."
She let him rest against her chest. "If you feel up to trying again...let me know...We can just sit like this if you want..."
"This...go...od." He swallowed hard and closed his eyes as he relaxed her. He didn't want to eat. He didn't want to move. He just wanted to stay like that.
"Alright." She moved her hands over his chest with light touches. With him in between her legs, she bent her knees to get more comfortable.
"So...you can bring back the dead?"
Xavier looked up at Boris. He could tell b the way the large man was standing, the uncomfortable, question look on his face.... He knew what he was going to ask. "No," he whispered softly. "I cannot."
"But you did it for her!"
"I should have never done it."
"I will do whatever you want! I will give you everything I have. Please!"
Xavier shook his head and closed his eyes. "I see it now, Doc," he whispered. "No one should play God."
"Please," Boris whispered as he fell to the ground in front of him crying.
Hailey walked over to him and tugged on his arm. "Teddy...why are you crying?"
"Come on Hailey," Xavier whispered, pulling her up into his chest. "He needs some time alone."
Hailey looked over his shoulder at Boris as Xavier carried her away. "I love you, Teddy," she said softly.
Skyla hugged Maven and buried her face in his back. Tears slid down her face as she thought of Boris's heartache. Yes...seeing the future and the past was sometimes a curse.
"Hailey. Please go to your room and get your lala book."
"Ok!" she ran to her room and came back a few minutes later with the book.
Taking the book in his hand, he went to the kitchen and grabbed a lighter. Holding it to the book, he set the corner on fire.
Hailey screamed. "No! No! It's mine! Stop it! Nanny Doc made that for me! Stop it!" she cried.
He set the book down in the sink and held her close. "Listen to me, Hailey," he whispered. "That game is something that no one should play. No one should have that."
"But it's a special game! It's Nanny Doc's game!" She fought against him as she reached for the burning book. "Nanny Doc! Nanny Doc!" she cried.
"Doc would understand," he told her. "He would agree with me."
"Let go! I hate you! I hate you!" she cried and beat on his chest.
Once the book was nothing more than ashes he turned on the water in the sink and let the water wash it away. Pulling her close, he stood and took her down stairs. "I want to show you something," he said as he opened up an old trunk.
She cried. "Nanny Doc...my Nanny Doc..."
He shifted through the trunk until he found a small leather book. He opened it up, a picture of him and Doc hugging in the very front. "This was Doc's journal," he told her. "He started writing it when we first met. It covers our time up until we went our separate ways. He gave it to me, and now I'm giving it to you."
She sniffled and took the book. "Mine?"
"Yes, yours."
Hugging the book she leaned against his chest. "Will you read it to me at bed time?"
He smiled and nodded. "If you want me to."
"Ok...I forgive you...cookie?"
She was easy to take care of. "Yes. Cookie."
Lana walked around Maverick's room, lightly bouncing Angelia as Angelia sucked on her breast. Maverick was outside doing his best to comfort his giant friend so she was left to tend to Angelia on her own.
"How's the feeding going?" Sarah asked as she opened up the door.
Lana looked over at her. "Good... I...have been stuck in the room these last few days. I grew out of my bras and Sven keeps staring at me..."
Sarah smirked. "Your boobs do defy gravity now."
"Yes...which is uncomfortable most the time. I seemed to be feeding her all the time just so I'm not always full of milk..."
"Seems like Xavier's shot cranked up your hormones too much."
"Yes..." she blushed. "I'm sure...you hear us..."
Sarah nodded. "You've been going at it more than Evana and I...." She trailed off at that and shook her head.
"I'm sorry...it's really hard when he's always staring at my chest... "
Sarah looked at her breasts and nodded. "Your hips are getting wider too. Who knows? Maybe that shot increased your pheromones. Everyone will be going after you."
"Don't say that..." she blushed. Angelia stopped eating and she pulled her from her breasts the burped her and set her in her crib before pulling her shirt down.
"From the way you look it sounds like you might like it. Having more than one person. Maybe even a little girl on girl." She smirked as she sat down on the bed.
She blushed brighter and pulled at her skirt to make it longer. "I..I love Maverick...he's the only person I'm interested in."
"Is that the reason you're wet now?"
"I'm always wet," she said and sat down. "Another reason why Maverick and I are always going at it."
"Going at it?" Sarah smirked. "You've certainly got more confident about doing the naughty. Must be hard to keep underwear if they're always soaked."
"It's easier to talk about it when I'm with you or Evana. Evana keeps telling me that she went through the same thing when she was going through puberty."
"Really? I mean, I was a horny little thing, but I wasn't always wet."
"Xavier says it's because of the shot...it's speeding things up and multiplying it..."
"Turning you into a hormonal, large breasted, wide hipped, sex addict...."
"I'm...not...a sex addict..." she blushed.
"You're thinking of Maverick's cock right now aren't you?"
She blushed. "Why are you tormenting me?"
"I'm not tormenting you. I'm teasing you. There's a very big difference. If I wanted to torment you I'd tie you to the bed, touch you places, and talk about Maverick's throbbing cock inside you."
She shifted. "I...don't think Maverick would like that..."
"I notice you always talk about what Maverick would like." She moved in closer to her with a smile. "But what would you like?"
"Maverick..."
She smiled and patted her head. "Want me to go get Sir Fucksalot?"
"Don't call him that..." She couldn't help but giggled though.
Sarah smiled and stood. "Please. Anyone who goes at it like you two do deserves that title."
"Um...if you say so..."
"And if you ever want some girl on girl, I'd be more than happy to help with that."
"I'm...fine with Maverick."
"Your loss." She laughed and waved to her before heading back to her room.
Lana looked over at Angelia. "This is so not what I had in mind for girl talk..."
"Hey. What are you up to?" Sarah leaned against her door watching Evana who looked mopier than usual.
"Just bored," she said. "I've been watching Maverick console Boris. The poor man's been crying for a good while..."
"No wonder. He wants his family back. I can't blame him. Though it is hard to see someone as strong as him break down like that."
"Everyone has their moments..."
"I know. I just feel bad for him."
"I think we all do. I'm a little afraid if he will end up being a little cold to Maven and Skyla."
"I've been worried about that as well. When he heard that Maven came back he was so excited.... But now I'm afraid that excitement will turn to hate."
"Understandably so and rather scary to think about," she whispered.
"I am sorry, Xavier," Skyla whispered and walked out, closing the door behind her.
Xavier sighed and closed down his computer. He couldn't think. He couldn't focus right now. "I wasn't ready for that," he whispered.

"I doubt it," he whispered. "But I’m trying to atone for past sins. Maybe this will help."
"Later, the pain will go away. And every time you look at Hailey's face...you will know you made the right decision. At least for her..."
"Being human is far more complicated then dealing with machines."
