Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Through Harushi's Eyes ❯ A Melancholy Beggining ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
The moon glowed brightly. “I like to think of the moon as the night’s sun. I sometimes feel its spirit. Its free spirit, unlike mine, trapped in the place I live in called the world. I love sitting up here, on the roof of our milk-bar. It’s the only place where I can think clearly.”
“Harushi Kazuma! Come down now!!!” Mum yelled. Then, it happens again. Harushi’s brown eyes turn a light, crystal blue. It’s a vision, from the past. She sees her mother. She is at work, and then se drops the numerous plates she was holding. Tears sneak out from the corner of her eyes. Suddenly, Harushi snaps out of her vision with a jerk of the head.
“Mum. She was fired.” She said in a weary voice. A gust of wind blew Harushi’s hair around. “I should head down now.”
She walked through the crammed aisles of shelfs, until she reached a door, leading to her house. She opened the door to find her mother with her head in her hands, on the table. Mum looked up at Harushi with guilt in her eyes.
“Harushi, I-“Harushi interrupts.
“You lost you job at the café and now we can only rely on the store for our money.”
The silence filled their heads with thoughts of sorrow and anger.
“Harushi. I’m sorry.” She said. Then, she gets up, with slight determination. “Time to take your temperature.” She said in a more confident voice. Harushi put the thermometer in her mouth. Then, they wait. Beep-beep. Mum stared at the thermometer in horror. “You’re not getting better!!”Mum yelled. Mum put her head in her hands again and started crying, like before. Harushi looks worriedly at her mother, and then runs away to her room. A few hours later, Harushi is still awake in her bed. She heard her mother’s conversation with the doctor on the phone. “But she could die! We don’t have the money, but can’t you just have a heart and do something?! “Mum yelled at the phone. “What!? How can you not know what's wrong with her?! I can’t believe you people!”
Harushi hears the faint muffled voice of the doctor.
“I’m sorry lady but we just don’t know! We can give her a thorough check-up in the hospital for a while, but if you don’t have the money, we can’t do anything!” the doctor tried to explain.
“What, how can you say that?!” Mums voice rises to a scream, and then she hung up. Harushi hears the faint sobs of her mother.
“So there is something wrong with me! I’m going to die?! Maybe it has something to do with... the...” Harushi was so tired from thinking, she fell asleep.
