Chapter 3

It was quite in the Frasier house. It was breakfast, everyone sat quietly at the table, eating normal food mix with blood. Ronald left the same night that Jane was attacked, heading toward the High Council. The very air tasted dull, the blood old, and the gloomy weather outside did not help with the situation. Everyone had the same thoughts on their mind: Who was that vampire, named Ronald? Why did he attack Jane, and violate the Law, invading their territory? No one had the answer, their father was on his way to get them from the Council. Even then, doubt grew like a wild fire. They did not know the number of vampires in this hostile Clan, nor did they know if their father would make it. They did know, with certainty that if he did die their instinct would let them know almost immediately. When a Clan Master, or the maker of a vampire dies, all in the lower blood line have a vision of their death, and a vision of their new Master. If Ronald were to die, his wife and children would know, and since the wife is the second oldest, she would be the new Clan Master.

The only safe haven was their home, it was spelled to prevent any Dark race from entering without permission. Only a really old Dark one could potentially enter the confounds of their home. However, even this did not soothe Samantha’s worry. They have had this claim for almost 100 years, and the closest Clan was all the way in Savannah. They had little relation with any Clan of the region, and no rogue clans were reported to be in the area since 1807. So this new clan must have came from another state, or country. It was very unlikely they came from another continent. But for the leader to be rogue, and be at least 5 centuries old was a remarkable feat. Her train of thought was broken instantly when she heard Jane’s voice.

“Hey mom. Im going to spend the night at Jamie house. Her mother already said I could.” said Jane, hoping that since it was the weekend, and that she was going to a witches house she would allow it, disregarding the threat of the enemy Clan.

Samantha sighed, “Sure Jane, you may. But I shall escort you to her house” she said, silencing the objection of Jane with the wave of her hand.

Silence took the room again until Marcus went up stairs, dreading that bitter silence. She quickly stood up. Slamming her hands on the table, startling her daughters.

“I shall train you to properly deal with Vampires,” she started, “And how to protect yourself against the Prime Dark Races” she finished. The daughters looked dazed for a moment, then the sun was in the room, hearing the conversation he ran down quickly. He had an excited look on his face, from the topic at hand. They had never been trained to fight, let alone against other Dark races. Marcus was excited, but Jane was none too thrilled. This meant that something serious might happen, since they never received training before.

“When do we start?” laughed Marcus, rubbing his hands together like he was ready for a fight.

“This is no joke, this is serious. Fighting a human is one thing, but a creature of the Dark race is very dangerous.” explained the mother, trying to straighten up her nonchalant son. “What are the three Prime Dark races?” asked Kiara, her curiosity peeking.

“The three Prime races are the original supernatural dark races that have inhabited the planet since the dawn of civilization. These three races are Vampires, Witches, and Werewolves. Vampires however are considered the Supreme Dark Race, since we are on every continent and have the most numbers and power, and since we control many of the world governments. I don’t know the history of the other races, but we vampires are believed to have originated in the city-state of Hamazi, in Mesopotamia. This is based off what the Original’s have told us, but one Original is said to originate from the city-state Ur. Since then we have been the dominate race. The witches however act as guardians to the human race and peace keepers between all Dark races. That is why the High Council’s have Witch Covens living with them. Werewolves, however, are destructive beasts, and were contained in Europe, ever since Dark War 1, which is the equivalent to World War 1. All other Dark races, be it a Changeling or a minotaur, are derived from the three Prime races.”

“Each race has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and their own customs and Laws. So you must know how to defend yourself against them, and also respect their territory. When the High Council gave us this territory, they made sure no other vampires were here, and also made sure no other race had this as a claim. Witches are mediators in any regarding two or more different races who have a conflict. Which is why witches have free territory claims, due to their roles, lifestyle, and because they don’t interfere with any internal Dark race conflict, unless requested. So, I will teach you the basics when it comes to the other races and our race, in case you have forgotten.”

“Come on mom, we know the basics for us, teach us something new” complained Marcus.

“If you do tell me the strength and weakness we have.” demanded Samantha, ready to teach her son his place.

“ Well I know we have: incredible physical strength, supreme speed, can heal any wound, we are immortal and can’t die by normal means, and are senses are better than any Dark race.” said Marcus. He caught his breathe, and continued, “ And are weaknesses are very stereotypical, including; Sunlight, wooden stakes and bullets, and Holy Water and crosses” said Marcus, feeling confident in his brief but detailed description.

Samantha, nodded, “That was good, but you are missing some key details and some weakness you probably didn’t even know about, now son, listen and learn” she said almost mockingly, causing Jane and Kiara to laugh at their brothers lack of knowledge when he should have lacked his cockiness.

“Are strength and speed are superior to most Dark races, but werewolves can easily over power a young vampire, that being a vampire who is less than 4 centuries old. That is of course if the werewolf isn’t an aged one, the older they are the stronger, same goes for vampires. At night werewolves have the advantage, especially near the full moon. Lucky for you, no werewolves are in North America. Are healing is limited, we cannot grow back lost limbs, without the assistance of witches, and wooden weapons that wound us take longer to heal. The closer to the heart, the longer it takes to be general, and if are head is cut off, there is no way you’re coming back from that. Our senses are supreme, but some races specialize in certain fields, and werewolves trump our senses when they are transformed. Holy water will also delay our healing. During the day we are weaker than normal, werewolves being the same. Crosses burn on contact and any holy building is a no entry zone. Crosses on non-holy buildings bar our entry as well, unless you are old enough.” she paused, acting as if in deep thought, “ We are also weak against tainted blood. Blood with certain disease, including STDs will cripple us. HIV/AIDS will weaken us greatly, and will basically put us in a coma if we drink it, this is why we rarely feed on blood not from the blood banks. Now do you understand the risks, and why you must be mentally and physically prepared?” asked the mother while finishing her lecture.

“ But why talk about werewolves when we won’t encounter one at all, since they are confined to Europe?” asked Kiara.

“Because, times may change and you must be prepared” said Samantha, “ But be wary, witches can easily over power all Dark races, and not all witches are peace keepers” explained Samantha.

Everyone looked at each other in silence, grasping the knowledge just given to them. They now new everything they needed to know, and since they knew the intruders were old, they would have to use to wits to avoid them out in the open. It was almost midday, and it was time for Jane to head to Jamie’s house. Her mother escorted her, and left. Once inside Jane quickly revealed all of her new knowledge to Jamie, who in turn devoured the information. While deep in their conversation, Jamie’s mom intruded, appearing out of no where by the use of high level Coven magic. Startled, the girls jumped up, only to feel awkward to see it to be her mother.

“Relax girls, I’m only one person” laughed Jamie’s mom, who sat on the rocky chair in the living room, the girls laying on the ground in front of her.

“Hey mom, how was work?” asked Jamie, who really didn’t care but was scolded last time from not being respectful enough to ask the simple question. “The usual” she responded before her gave became fixed on Jane.

“ I don’t believe we met. And you are” she asked, extending her arm hoping for a handshake. “ This is Jamie, my vampire friend. The one from the Frasier clan, remember?” said Jamie, embarrassed by her mothers lost memories.

“ Oh yes, I remember now. How is the barrier my mother erected for you, is it still holding?” she asked to Jane, who politely responded by saying it was working well.

“ That’s good. My name is Janie Hauser, standard witch rank five, of the Atlantis Coven, we oversee all of the United States.” said Janie happily. Jamie whispered in Jane’s ear, stating her mom was up for a promotion to be an Elder witch on the ruling body of the Atlantis Coven. The Atlantis Coven being the largest in numbers of any other Coven.

“What were you kids talking about?” asked Janie.

“I was telling Jamie all the weaknesses and strengths of some Dark races. My mom is teaching me stuff since the rogue clan of vamps arrived” explained Jane.

“ Oh yes, my mother called me when she felt the disturbance, but I was not worried the least bit. Rogue vamps are usually easily dealt with. But Jamie, you would have been learned about this if you would have started your coven training already, but you shall learn this break no buts’ about it either.” Jamie groaned, “But if you want I will also help you, I can teach you some history and tricks your mother might not know about!” winked Janie at Jane, who simply laughed at it in agreement. Jane sensed that her friends mother was extremely gifted witch, if she had been their that night, Cater would not have escaped her family’s wrath.

“ Witches’ are very good at dealing with other Dark races, so I will help your family deal with the situation” confirmed Janie.

“It’s ok, my father has already left to get help from the High Council” said Jane, to Janies surprise.

“Really now?” choked Janie, “When did he leave” she asked.

“The night of the attack, I’m not sure how long it will take. I don’t know the location of the High Council” explained Jane, Janie just nodding, “For the best I’m sure.”.

“ He should come back with assistance to deal with the rogue Clan, since we don’t know their numbers or true strength.” said Jane. Jamie, pulled up on her friend, and said they were going to go upstairs to talk about school gossip. Janie just sat at the chair, and thought about what to cook the girls, who were already out of ear shot to ask what they wanted. Janie sighed, and walked to the kitchen, making sure to sort through the ingredients, separating the ones that could harm the vamp. She decided to bless Jane with a spell, to give her good luck against her vampire enemies, since it was her Covens duty to protect any Dark race that was done wrong, and to protect the balance. She knew she would have to help destroy these Vampires before her father got back from the High Council.
