Day 2 At Sea
The pounding headache is what wakes Will. He groans and opens his
eyes even though he'd much rather keep them shut and sleep some
more. He swallows and it feels like he's swallowed an ash tray. The
room is blurry and it's not until he blinks that it comes into
better focus. He doesn't recognize the room, which means it's not
his. Well. It's been a while since this has happened. He groans as
he sits up and swings his legs around the side of the bed; his
lower body is sore. Must have been a fun night. He's totally naked.
And his thighs are sticky. Yep. Something definitely happened. He's
not sure of the extent of what they did or who it was with.
Finally, it occurs to him to look and see if his partner from last
night is still here. He is. Still fast asleep in the bed is David.
Well, maybe they didn't…
That thought is instantly banished from Will's mind when David
stirs. He groans and rubs his bloodshot eyes. When he sits up, the
sheet falls away from his body, revealing that he's naked.
“Ugh, I feel like shit,” he mutters.
“Join the club,” Will says gloomily.
David looks up and gasps when he sees Will.
“Will!” she says.
Will smiles at him. “Morning sunshine.”
“You're in my room,” David says. His eyes travel down
Will's body. “Whoa! And you're naked.”
“Completely,” Will says.
“Ugh, what happened? I feel like I got run over by a
semi-truck.” David rubs his forehead with the palm of his
hand.
“You had too much to drink,” Will says. “That's
why you feel like you wanna curl up and die. Trust me, I'm well
acquainted with the feeling.”
“I don't remember what happened last night.” David
looks up at Will with bloodshot eyes. “Do you?”
“No,” Will immediately lies.
He remembers pretty much everything, though there are some later
parts he doesn't.
“I remember going to the club,” David murmurs almost to
himself. “And drinking one of those glowing tubes. What the
hell were in those things anyway?” Will merely shrugs.
“I remember having a few drinks with you at the bar
and…and…the guy who looks just like you.”
“Willow,” Will supplies.
“Yeah, him,” David says. “I remember dancing with
you too.”
“Yeah,” Will says, too softly for David to hear.
David frowns deeply. “I don't remember much after that.
Somehow, we made it back here. Did we just pass out
together?”
“Based on our state of undress and the stickiness on my
thighs, I'd say no,” Will says.
David's eyes widen. “Then we…we…”
“We had sex,” Will says bluntly. “And judging by
the way my ass hurts, I'd say you were the dominant one.”
“But…but…” David protests.
“But what?” Will asks.
“I'm not gay!” David shouts.
This cuts Will deeply. “Just because you slept with a guy,
doesn't automatically make you gay. You could be bi.”
“I am not bi!” David shouts. “I'm engaged. To a
woman!”
“And yet you slept with a man,” Will points out.
“This was just a drunken mistake,” David says.
“That's all.”
How many times has Will heard this? Far more than he would
like.
“Yeah, you keep telling yourself that,” Will says
coldly.
“Get out,” David says angrily.
“What?” Will stares at David blankly.
“Get out!” David shouts. “Leave!”
“Can I at least get dressed first?” Will asks.
David pauses and for a moment, he looks like he's seriously
considering making Will leave without letting him get dressed
first. Bloody hell, is he going to have to walk back to his room
naked? Won't be the first time.
At last, David sighs. “Yeah, get dressed first. I'm going to
go shower. You'd better not be here when I get back.”
And with that, he heads into the bathroom, slamming the door loudly
behind him.
Will waits until he hears the shower running before getting up. He
does a quick search for his clothes and finds them scattered around
the floor. He dresses quickly, listening all the time for the
shower. Thankfully, David seems to take long showers because the
water is still running when Will is finished getting dressed. He
wastes no time in getting out of there. It takes him a minute to
figure out where he is. Luckily, he's not too far from his
stateroom.
He opens the door slowly, hoping not to wake his twin. It's
surprisingly early, only 7 AM, according to the clock in his and
Willow's room. He was expecting it to be past noon.
Will quietly crosses the room and goes into his suitcase to find a
clean set of clothes.
He's halfway to the bathroom when Willow's voice floats toward him
from the bed, “You just never learn, do you?”
Will freezes in place and then turns around. Willow, whom Will
thought was fast asleep is sitting up on his side with his head
propped up by his elbow.
“For the love of God, Willow, don't lecture me right
now,” Will says with a groan. “I've got a fucking
hangover.”
“Well that's what you get for drinking too much,”
Willow says.
“Oh fuck you,” Will says. “I'm going to
shower.”
“Better make it quick,” Willow warns. “Breakfast
is in half an hour.”
“Damn it,” Will mutters and he hurries off to the
bathroom to shower.
Willow sighs as he watches Will disappear into the bathroom. He
loves his twin, he really does, but sometimes he's a real
idiot.
He drags himself out of bed when he hears the shower start and
dresses for the day. When he's finished, he goes out to the sitting
area with his laptop and catches up on his e-mail. When he's
finished with all that, Will still hasn't gotten out of the shower,
so he goes to the door and finds a list of the day's activities
slipped under the door. There's a footprint on it. Rolling his
eyes, Willow dusts the sheet off the best he can and looks at it.
They're going to be a sea for five days before they reach their
first port, but luckily, the ship has a lot of activities available
to keep them occupied in the meantime.
Will finally emerges from the bedroom still looking pretty haggard,
just as there's a knock on the door. Willow glances at his twin
before going to answer it.
“Hello Father,” he says politely.
“Has your good-for-nothing brother come back yet?”
their father asks rudely.
Willow bristles at this, but holds his tongue.
“Yes,” he says as politely as he can manage. “He
came back a little while ago.”
“And where the hell was he?” their father asks.
“I don't know,” Willow says a little more coldly.
“And why the hell not?” their father demands.
“Because I am not my brother's keeper,” Willow has to
keep himself from shouting. “It's not my business to know
what my brother is up to.”
“And where is your brother now?” their father asks.
Trying to sleep in, no doubt.”
“No he's…” Willow says.
“I'm right here,” Will interrupts, stepping forward.
“And I'm ready to go.”
“Well that's a bloody miracle,” their father says.
“You seem to love looking at your reflection for an
hour.”
Will growls softly. Willow quickly blocks his path.
“Will, don't,” he says under his breath. “You
know he's just trying to get a reaction out of you.”
There's a long pause and then Will sighs very quietly. Willow
relaxes a little because he knows that Will won't go after their
father right now, but that can change in a heartbeat.
Their father looks a little disappointed that Will isn't going to
pick a fight with him, but all he says is, “Let's go. Your
mother is waiting.”
They follow their father out. Their mother is waiting in the
hallway. She looks as fashionable as always in a pair of nice
slacks and a black and white striped shirt. Her dark hair is pulled
back into a severe bun and her makeup is perfect, as always.
“Good morning boys,” she says, smiling at the twins.
She sees Will's haggard appearance and her grey eyes widen.
“Oh William. What happened to you?”
Will flinches at the use of his given name. Willow knows how much
Will hates it; he complains to Willow about it every time someone
uses it.
I uh…partied a little too hard last night,” Will
says.
“Well I hope you learned your lesson,” their mother
says in as stern a voice as she can manage.
“Yes ma'am,” Will says only to appease her.
“Good,” their mother says. She kisses the top of Will's
head.
“Aw mom,” Will mutters in embarrassment.
Willow can't help chuckling at Will's embarrassment; it doesn't
happen that often and when it does, it's very amusing. This earns
him a glare from Will and when their parents' back are turned, a
raised middle finger. Willow ignores Will's rude gesture with
practiced ease and follows their parents down the hallway.
They take their breakfast in one of the less formal cafés.
It's already filled with people despite it being quite early. They
join the end of the line and wait. Will doesn't order much to eat,
Willow notes. They get their food and go find a table. They have
just sat down when Will springs to his feet.
“Bathroom,” he mutters.
He literally runs out of the café, his hand covering his
mouth. Willow sighs and abandons his breakfast so he can go check
on his twin.
He finds Will in the men's room with his head hanging over a
toilet. Willow winces when he hears Will retch, but dutifully
kneels down next to his brother and holds his braid out of the way.
He gently rubs Will's back with his free hand while Will continues
to retch.
Finally, it stops, though Will doesn't move for a long time. When
he does turn to Willow, he's much more pale than usual. Willow
frowns and puts his hand on Will's forehead.
“You feeling all right?” he asks.
Will gives him a deadpan look. “I have a fucking hangover,
dumbass. How the fuck do you think I feel?”
“Right. Stupid question,” Willow mutters.
“Sorry.” He waits for a few moments and when it becomes
clear that Will isn't going anywhere, he sighs and grabs Will's
upper arm. “Come on. Let's go.”
He tugs on Will's arm until he slowly rises. Will is unsteady on
his feet as they walk out so Willow keeps his hand on Will's arm to
help keep him steady. He's also limping slightly.
“Do I have to?” Will asks like a petulant child when he
sees that Willow has lead him back to the café.
“Yes you have to,” Willow says patiently. “You
need to get some food in you. Trust me, it'll make you feel at
least a little bit better.”
“Ugh, just thinking about food makes me want to puke
again,” Will groans.
“Try. Please? For me?” Willow asks.
Will glares balefully at him, but nods. “Fine. But only
because you asked so nicely.”
“That's the spirit!” Willow says encouragingly.
This earns him another glare from Will, followed by an upraised
middle finger.
“Come on, let's go,” Willow says, rolling his eyes.
They enter the café and Will runs straight into someone.
“Sorry,” the person says.
And Will stiffens. Willow frowns. Will has never acted this way
around anyone before. Even when hung over like this, he at least
makes somewhat of an attempt to flirt. Willow's eyes dart to David
who stands only a few inches away from Will. He looks almost as
uneasy as Will. His eyes travel between the two of them a few times
before it finally clicks what happened between the two of them.
“God dammit Will,” he says under his breath.
Will hears and flashes Willow a warning glare. Then he turns back
to David.
“What do you want?” he asks.
“We need to talk,” David says.
“All right,” Will agrees and he turns to follow David
out of the café.
Wait,” Willow protests, stepping forward. Will turns toward
him impatiently. “Are you sure this is a good
idea?”
“It'll be fine,” Will says. “Really. Back in a
flash!”
Willow watches them go with mounting anxiety. Why does he have the
feeling that things are going to go horribly wrong between
them?
Will's hands shake as he follows David down the hallway. He really
hopes David doesn't see how scared he is; he doesn't want to see
how weak he is. He's been down this road before where one night
stands have gone horribly wrong. He still has scars from them;
jealous husbands are dangerous, but scorned wives are a hundred
times worse. David doesn't look like the violent type, but if
anyone knows that appearances are deceiving, it's Will.
David has chosen a small, narrow hallway out of the way. Very
smart. Not only will no one hear their conversation, no one will
see anything that goes on here.
They finally stop walking and David turns around. He looks only
slightly better than Will feels right now.
“Okay, here we are,” Will says. “Now
talk.”
David nods and takes a deep breath. “I wanted to apologize
for this morning. I…I…” He sighs. “I was
caught off guard, okay? I didn't mean to sound like a complete
jerk.”
Will isn't sure if David is apologizing because he feels like it's
the proper thing to do or if he's being sincere. Once upon a time
he would have believed that David is being sincere, but now he
can't believe anyone. But he's played the game long enough to know
how to pretend.
He gives David a winning smile. “It's all right, David. I
don't blame you for freaking out like that. It's quite a
shock.”
“And why weren't you shocked to wake up in someone else's
bed?” David asks.
Will shrugs. “Not surprising, really.” David stares at
him with such a shocked look that Will laughs. “Babe, don't
you know? I have a bad reputation.”
“Um…well…” Will can see that David is
trying to be polite and it makes him laugh even more.
“Don't worry. I know what they say about me,” Will
says.
“And…is it true?” David looks hesitant to
ask.
“Maybe, maybe not.” Will can't help grinning at the
bewildered look on David's face. God it's fun to mess with him.
David nervously clears his throat.
“Is there something else I can help you with?” Will
asks.
David is silent for a while. He looks like he's trying to find the
proper words to say, but can't.
At last, he bursts out, “I don't understand it!”
Will is startled by David's sudden outburst.
“What don't you understand?” he asks.
David runs his hand through his hair, making it stand on end.
“There's something that's drawing me to you, Will, though I
don't know what it is or why I'm feeling it. It's wrong… I
know it's wrong. I'm engaged for God's sake. And
you…you're…”
“A nasty slut who'll spread his legs for anything that
moves?” Will supplies. David looks at him, shocked.
“There's no use in hiding what I am,” Will says.
“And okay, maybe I'm being a little melodramatic, but there
is some truth.”
“What's true?” David asks.
“Well, I've never had sex for money,” Will says. David
just stares at him. Will sighs and rubs his forehead. “Look
David, I'm not the kind of guy who sleeps with someone and then
brags about it to the whole world, okay? If anything, I'm
discreet.” David snorts. “I know. Hard to believe,
right?” He sighs again. “Look, I'm not looking for a
long term relationship or any sort of a relationship period, all
right? It's not my thing. Which I'm sure you're fine with since
you're engaged and all.”
“I…” David says.
“Don't worry about it,” Will quickly interrupts.
“I get it. You're engaged. You're going to marry her even if
you're not completely thrilled about it.”
“How do you know…?” David looks completely
baffled.
Will laughs. “Please. I see the way you look at her. Don't
worry. I won't tell anyone. I'm discreet, remember?”
“What do you want?” David asks.
“Me?” Will says in surprise. “What about
you?”
“What do you mean?” David asks.
“Well, you were the one who wanted to talk, weren't
you?” Will says.
“Yeah but…” Will says. “Look, what happened
between us….I didn't mean for it…I didn't go to the
club hoping to seduce you and get you into bed. I was just there to
have a good time. If we had sex, we had sex. No big deal.”
This is only a half truth, but Will is so used to lying that he's
convinced himself that it's the truth. “And if it happened,
it was supposed to only be a one-time thing. However, I'm okay with
making it more than a one-time thing. And what happens between us
will stay between us, you know what I mean? No one will ever have
to know.”
“No, I don't think so,” David says politely.
“Thanks for the offer though.”
“Think about it,” Will insists softly. “Let me
give you my number in case you change your mind.”
He digs a pen and a piece of paper out of his pocket and writes
down his name and cell phone number. He presses the paper into
David's hand before he can say no.
“Call me if you need me,” he says.
He presses his lips to David's cheek and then goes to rejoin his
family at breakfast.
***
David stands at the railing, watching the sun set. He spent most of
the day with Tessa and their two families being an obedient son and
fiancé; this time is his. He takes a deep breath of salty sea
air and for the first time since he boarded this stupid ship, he
feels like he can relax. It doesn't last. David's fist curls around
the piece of paper in his hand and his thoughts turn troubled.
Interacting with Tessa kept him distracted for the majority of the
day, but now that he's alone, there's nothing stopping his thoughts
from turning to Will. He's told himself several times that he
didn't throw Will's phone number out because that would be rude,
but is that really true? What if it's because he secretly wants to
take Will up on his offer? He uncurls his hand and looks at the
piece of paper now crumpled in his hand. He flattens it out and
looks at Will's neat handwriting. Will's words come back to him: no
one will ever have to know.
He exhales sharply and digs his phone out of his pocket. This is
stupid and reckless and he knows it, but he's never acted stupid or
reckless before and he wants to, just this once. He's tired of
always doing the right thing. With shaking fingers, he dials Will's
number. He cradles the phone to his ear and waits. It rings several
times before Will picks up.
“Hello?” he says.
David's heart beats rapidly in his chest and his throat is so dry
he can barely get the words out. “Will, it's David. I…I
want to talk. To you. In person.” God he sounds like a
complete idiot.
Will either doesn't notice or doesn't care; he says brightly,
“Okay! Where do you want to meet?”
“Up on the Observation Deck,” David says. “Come
as soon as you want.”
“All right,” Will says. “I'll be there in like
ten minutes.”
“Okay,” David says.
He puts his phone away and turns back to stare at the water
again.
The sun has almost completely disappeared beneath the horizon when
Will appears.
“Hello David,” he says pleasantly, walking over to
David.
“Hi Will,” David says.
They fall silent. Will turns to study the sea; David's eyes never
leave him. Will is dressed in a black turtleneck tonight, which
really brings out the blue in his eyes. David is kind of surprised
that Will is covered up so much, but then again, it's still pretty
chilly, especially at night. It won't get warmer until they get
closer to Hawaii, their first port. Will also wears jeans so tight
David wonders how he can be comfortable in them and an assortment
of earrings.
David clears his throat, trying hard not to think about how tight
Will's jeans are and how desirable it makes him look. The stupid
bastard probably did that on purpose just to mess with him. Will
turns toward him and his lips curl up into a smirk, as if he knows
where David's thoughts currently are.
“I…I…uh…” David quickly tries to
gather his thoughts and fails miserably.
“You wanted to talk,” Will says.
“Yes,” David says. “I um…” He's not
exactly sure how to say what he wants to say so he just says it.
“I changed my mind. I want to take you up on your offer. I
don't…I don't know why. And it scares the hell out of me, but
I…I want to spend time with you, Will. I don't want
sex.”
Will raises his eyebrows.
“Okay, I don't only want sex,” David clarifies.
“I know you don't do relationships and this is not a
relationship. It's…it's…well I don't know what this
is.” He takes a deep breath. “I want to spend time with
you and get to know you a little better during this cruise. And if
there's sex…well there's sex. But no one can know, okay? And
I…well I have to spend time with my family. And my
fiancée. They'll know something's up if I don't.” Will
nods. “Will.” Will looks at him. “You're okay
with this? It's not going to last past the end of this cruise after
all. I don't want to force you into anything…”
Will bursts into laughter. “Oh please. My own parents can't
force me to do anything. You have nothing to worry about. I'm going
into this voluntarily, okay?”
“All right,” David says.
“Anything else?” Will asks. “Let me guess, no
kinky shit?”
David blushes. “Uh…no.”
“That's fine,” Will says. “I can do no kinky sex.
Though who knows? Maybe I'll change your mind. Any other
demands?”
“Protection,” David blurts out. “We should use
protection. I mean…I'm not saying you're a slut and have all
sorts of diseases. I just want to be safe, you know?”
Will nods. “That's fair. Anything else?”
“Uh…no,” David says.
“Okay then,” Will says. “I have a question for
you. Are you gonna kiss me now?”
David stares at him and he only smirks. David runs his hand through
his hair. Once again, it seems as though Will knows what he's
thinking. He quickly glances around the deck. There are a few
couples out for an evening stroll.
“We can't…not here,” he says in a low voice.
“People might see and then they'll start talking.”
Will looks disappointed, but nods. “Shall we retire to your
room, then?”
“Why my room?” David asks curiously.
“Because I'm sharing mine with Willow and I'd rather not have
him around to watch us. Unless of course you want to have a
threesome,” Will says without missing a beat.
David blushes. “No. That's…okay.”
“Your room it is,” Will says.
David leads him back to his stateroom. Will comes along quietly,
which is kind of surprising. Also surprising is the fact that Will
keeps his distance as they walk. That quickly changes when they
enter the elevator. As soon as the doors shut and they are alone,
Will has David pinned to the wall, their mouths pressed together.
David stands there awkwardly, not really sure what he's supposed to
be doing.
“Just relax, David,” Will whispers in his ear.
“I don't know what I'm doing,” David says.
“Just go with it,” Will says.
He presses their lips together again. David wraps his hand around
the back of Will's head and brings him closer.
“Open your mouth,” Will says.
David obeys. He nearly chokes when he feels Will's tongue in his
mouth.
“Relax,” Will whispers.
Then his sticks his tongue back in David's mouth. David has never
had anyone's tongue in his mouth before, male or female, and
it's…weird. A good weird. He starts kissing Will back, though
he has no idea what he's doing. Will seems pleased. At least he
thinks Will is pleased.
The elevator finally reaches David's floor and Will reluctantly
pulls back.
“You're a natural kisser,” he says with a grin.
David blushes. He makes sure no one is around before letting Will
into his room. He makes sure the doors to the hallway and his
parents' bedroom are locked and that all the curtains are
drawn.
“Wow. Paranoid much?” Will remarks.
“I'm not taking any chances,” David says.
Will laughs softly and brings their lips together again. David
groans when Will starts kissing his neck.
“Don't leave a mark,” he says.
“I won't,” Will promises.
He slips his hand beneath David's shirt and lifts it up. David
gasps when Will's lips close around one of his nipples. Will smirks
and sucks on the nipple until it's hard. Then he does the same to
the other. He places several light kisses on David's belly while
his hands work to remove his pants and boxers. David is surprised
when Will forces him to sit on the couch. His heart starts beating
wildly in his chest as Will smiles that cocky smile of his and
drops to his knees. David sucks in his breath as Will's mouth goes
lower and lower, lower than he could ever imagine.
“Oh god,” he utters as Will's mouth closes around his
cock.
“Just close your eyes and relax,” Will says, pulling
back. “Enjoy the pleasure. I'm gonna make you feel so
good.”
Then he puts his head between David's legs again. David is barely
able to suppress a groan. He never knew that Will could make him
feel so good, that Will could make him hard; he has always thought
that women would arouse him, not a blue eyed boy.
He lets out a low groan as Will's tongue finds a sensitive spot. He
threads his fingers through loose strands of Will's hair as the
pressure builds. He has to muffle his cries with his hand or else
the entire floor will hear him. At last, David throws his head back
and comes, gasping loudly. He leans back against the couch, dizzy,
and closes his eyes
David's head jerks up when there's a knock on the door connecting
his room to his parents' and he opens his eyes.
“Fuck,” he mutters.
It's his absolute worst nightmare. Will looks unconcerned but he's
Will so he doesn't have to be concerned about anything. Especially
since he's still fully dressed. The knocking persists.
“Just a minute!” David calls.
He quickly pulls on his boxers and his jeans and then turns to
Will.
“Bedroom!” he hisses. “Hide! Now!”
Will scurries to the bedroom, closing the door behind him. David
makes sure Will is completely out of sight before going to answer
the door.
“Good evening David,” his father says.
“Good evening Father,” David says politely.
David's father scowls at him. “Why are you half
naked?”
“Because I was about to get in the shower?” David says
coolly.
“Oh.” David's father looks surprised. “My
apologies.”
“What do you want?” David asks.
“Don't use that tone with me,” David's father says
sharply.
“I'm sorry,” David immediately apologizes.
“I just wanted to let you know that breakfast will be at 7:30
tomorrow morning with the Whites,” David's father says.
“All right. I'll be there,” David says.
Breakfast with his fiancée and future in-laws. He can't wait.
Shoving bamboo splinters beneath his fingernails would be so much
more fun though.
“Also…” David's father continues. “You did
well today, interacting with the Whites like you did.”
“Thanks,” David says.
“Keep up the good work,” David's father says.
“It's important that we impress the Whites.”
“I know,” David says irritably.
“Just remember how much is riding on this marriage. The
future of our family's company depends on it,'” David's
father says. “Good night David. I will see you in the
morning.”
“Good night father,” David says glumly.
He breathes a sigh of relief when the door connecting his parents'
room to his closes.
He whirls around when he hears Will's voice, “Wow. And I
thought my father was bad. No pressure, huh?”
“Yeah,” David murmurs.
“Well, I suppose I should get going,” Will says.
“You have a shower to take and a company's future to
contemplate. Fun! See you around.”
He places one last kiss on David's lips, his tongue briefly probing
David's mouth. Then, he sashays out of the room. David bangs his
head against the wall and dissolves into cursing.
