Reunion
If enough time has passed to make a good friend seem like a stranger, how would one react to seeing them again?
What would be polite; what would be customary?
It was this situation that she found herself in, and had come to the conclusion that no matter the response, the entire mess would be awkward.
Especially since this particular person was one she had not parted ways with on the best of terms.
Misunderstandings and fumbled explanations always make the most complicated un-resolved issues.
So they stood there; him nearly staring at her; her trying to return his gaze, on the sidewalk, unmoving, as bodies brush past them as if they weren't there at all.
Both were waiting for the other to speak. Both knowing they had no idea what to say.
How does someone start a conversation with a person they had almost succeeded in forgetting purposely?
He finally looks away.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
“It's been a long time.”
“Yeah, it has.”
