That night before James set foot out the door he had kissed his parents and older sister goodbye, and grabbed the duffle bag he had packed. Rachel had been preparing for days, so they had the things they would need. She then used a trick she had learned to make the bag feather-light.

James arrived at half past four and gave Rachel a one armed hug. She proceeded to the ship, having used the trick on James' bag as well. She tied back her midnight hair out of her purple eyes, she would be driving. James got into the passenger seat.

Rachel used the device for cloaking the car as soon as they were on the highway. But that night it was raining so heavily that it was all she could do to see, and when she pulled the gear to make it fly, it got three feet in the air before returning to the ground. They drove the car back to Rachel's house.

James slept in the guest room that night and Rachel was supposed to be sleeping in her attic room. But Rachel couldn't sleep; she wondered what had gone wrong. Was it the rain? Had they not spent enough time testing the ship for weather and flight? No, they had made sure and it got about 60 feet from the ground during a thunderstorm. No, it had to be the flight gear.

James awoke next morning to the sound of scrambled eggs and hash browns being made in the kitchen. He slid into the kitchen silently.

“Morning James.” She said, not looking at him.
“Morning. How did you see me?”
“Peripheral vision.”
“Said what now?”
“Saw you outta the corner of my eye.”
“Oh.”
“Orange juice?”
“Sure.”

They went to school in different directions to make it appear that they weren't at her house all night.

James arrived to a stone cold glare from Max and the cold shoulder from Andrea and Jane.

Rachel arrived to a hug from her friend Emily. The two brunettes talked on as if James had never even existed. Emily walked Rachel to her first class and told her to watch herself and that she would see her at lunch.

At lunch the two girls sat together on the field. After getting his lunch and realizing that he wouldn't be allowed at the usual table, James asked if he could sit with them. Emily had been his friend since second grade. Emily had been Rachel's friend since the first week of sixth grade.

The three at lunch while talking to each other. Then Rachel told Emily and James that the other was in on the project. The three would meet at Rachel's at 3. They would work on the ship together.

After class, Rachel and Emily ran to Rachel's house, but James doubled back to go another route.

When James arrived, the three started tearing the car apart. They turned it into a very Star-Trek looking interior, then started working on programming. The three were very technologically capable teens, so, by the following Friday, the ship was ready once again.
