Other Fan Fiction ❯ A Trip to Tamriel ❯ Opening Up The Scene ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
So, what am I doing right now…? Not studying for my government test, that's what.
A More Complete Summary: A young, truly ordinary girl is going throughout her day. Things are pretty normal at first (by HER standards, at least) until she finds herself in a complex situation. An angle takes her from her own world, and puts her into an amazing one. She loves this new place dearly, and luckily when she goes back things will be as if she never left (i.e. she'll be the same age with all limbs and junk). Unfortunately, she only gets a year to stay in this place.
However… There is indeed a way for her to stay. Certain tasks are open for her to complete, allowing her to stay a little bit longer. Determined to stay put as long as possible, she undertakes all challenges, but will one of these dangerous feats be her end? If she dies in this world, she dies; with no hopes of returning to her world alive.
Disclaimer: I do not own the character. My Gods do. I do not own the magical world where the girl is sent to. The makers of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion do (best damn game in the world). I do not even own the inspiration to write this. My boyfriend is my muse (interestingly enough, I am his.).

Creek…
Creek….
Creeeeek…
“Jess!” came the shout of an old woman, “Stop jumping on your bed! If you break it, you're sleeping outside!” The girl, assumedly Jess, halted in her fun. She peered out of her window to the porch below, which was so old it had things growing on it. “How can you hear me from there?” she asked, curious as to weather or not her mother had ESP. Her mother sighed, and only replied after taking a drag of her cigarette, “Because I'm your mom, that's how. You're seventeen, Jess! Grow up some!” Jess withdrew her head and just laid down on her bed. It was soft; so soft that she was convinced it could eat her. Her thoughts started wandering over the idea of just what it would be like to have a bed eat you. The digestive track, the `exit' at the end… Or would she be absorbed? Her train of thought was de-railed by her face being licked and bitten.
“Bear!” she exclaimed, “Stop that! No biting me. Okay?” The small brown puppy just wagged his tail so quickly he was knocked off balance. Jess laughed and set him down on the floor. She would have gladly resumed her thoughts, but a more urgent need aroused. She dashed off into the bathroom, and after taking care of `business' went to change her pad. The pads weren't scented, but for some reason every time she changed hers the old one smelt like flowers. “Now why on Earth would my pads smell like flowers…?” Wondering aloud was a nasty habit of hers, especially when she thought she was alone. From the other side of the bathroom door she heard, “Are you smelling your pads? Fucking gross!” It was her younger brother, Jacob, saying this. She stuck her tongue out at him, although he could not see it.
(A note to the readers: The following paragraph is here for those who need to know how people look, as to better gain am image in their head. It serves no purpose whatsoever in the plot, but my sister informed me that most people seem to like knowing exactly what people look like, instead of allowing their imagination to flow. If you have no desire for your imagination to be sullied by these words, then please by all means skip to the next paragraph, where the actual story may continue.)
He thought he was so cool… With his 6' 4” and platinum blonde hair… Jess looked at herself in the mirror, and contemplated her looks. She wasn't unpleasant to look at, but she didn't exactly count as pretty either. She stood at about 5' 7”, much taller than most of her female friends. Her hair, one of her most proud features, was some combination of brunette and auburn. It also traveled down to her waist, and even had a nice natural wave to it. It was the only part of her that anyone ever complimented, but the compliments were many. Her eyes she also adored, for they were dark green and large; not squinty like most people up in Maine seemed to have. She was, however, born in South Carolina, so that probably contributed to it. But back to her self evaluation… Her skin was two shades more on the pale side than she would have liked. The tan she had attained during the summer had faded away in most places. The light sprinkle of freckles were still upon her cheeks, though. At first she didn't like the freckles, but then she changed her mind. They gave her a neat, non-robotic look, unlike the images of the `beautiful' people, whose faces held no marks of any kind due to computer filtering and editing. As for her body structure… She was skinny. Pure and simple. She only weighed 105 pounds. Her bones weren't standing out or anything, in fact she looked quite healthy, because she WAS healthy. She smiled at her thoughts, but the smile soon faded. She had caught a glimpse of her teeth in the mirror. Oh, how she loathed her teeth. She had five wisdom teeth, so her top row of teeth were all shifted off-center. There wasn't a single tooth in the front row, top or bottom, that was straight. All jutted out in strange and nasty ways. Worst was, any time she got her new military ID picture her mom and dad would insist that she smile so ridiculously broad that every single on of her teeth showed. It was bad enough that her last ID picture had to hide her eyes due to her glasses… Even though, at the time, the thick, black, plastic frame was in style. Still is, actually.
By now she couldn't even remember what she had been thinking about earlier, so she departed from the lavatory. She scampered down the stairs as they made pleasant creaking sounds. Her puppy, Bear, stood at the top, whining. He could climb up stairs, but never down. Jess turned back and picked her pup up. His tail wagged, as was his default setting, and she placed him down at the bottom of the stairs. Bear ran off somewhere, chasing an ant or possibly a moth. Jess glanced at the computer, and sad to see that her younger brother was on it she simply left the house to take a walk in the backyard. She opened the door and stepped out onto the porch, wanting to breathe fresh air. Her request was denied, however, by her mother and aunt who were still smoking. Jess coughed in an exaggerated way, hoping to get a message across, but they just told her that she didn't have to be out here. In a way, Jess and her brother were lucky on account that her mother never smoked inside, so their house didn't smell like the nasty stuff.
Departing from the old porch, Jess explored her backyard. It was pretty cold outside, and her bare feet stung a little from the frost they were forced to walk on. She ignored it, knowing that in due time her feet would grown numb and she wouldn't feel a thing. Or at least that's what she told herself.
Although covered in frost, the grass still appeared bright and green. It spanned out for quite a distance, a good 100 yards. After that there were trees, and plenty of them. Mostly pine, though, so walking in the woods barefoot never proved pleasant. There was a small, man-made pond, in which three geese and three ducks were noisily communicating amongst themselves. Closer to Jess were a bunch of blueberry bushed, which she'd like just fine if it wasn't for the fact that she hated having to spend a whole day just picking them in the summer.
Jess found herself wandering near her neighbor's house, where a mighty huge horse named Thunder lived. He was beautiful horse. Strongly built, chestnut in color… And huge. So very, very huge. He was a work horse, and so his breed and exercise had made him tall enough so that Jess' six foot and four inches brother could almost limbo under him (I shit you not, dear readers. I know of a horse that is indeed this big.).
Before she reached Thunder, however, something unusual occurred. She saw what appeared to be a strange… Rift, of sorts, in the air. She assumed it at first to be her glasses just having a smudge on them, but even when they were removed, as blind as she was, she could still see it. She rubbed at her eyes, but by the next time she opened them she was in a place that was white. No different shades, not even her shadow was there. Everything was just white.

There. Chapter one. The storyline will really pick up in a moment or so. That was juts to aid you a little in how the girl behaves and thinks; to an extent. Also, if in some later chapter she goes over what she misses from home, you won't be totally lost. Next chapter is where the fun really starts.
