Jess turned this way and that, feeling more and more confused. She didn't know if she was in a room or open place, if she was moving at all when she walked or just staying still, even the direction of up and down was a puzzle. There was nothing here. Just white.
The next time she turned around she saw someone in front of her. Or maybe it wasn't a person at all, she couldn't tell. Whoever or whatever it was, it raised a hand, signaling her to stop turning around so much and to stay still. This served to further confuse Jess, as she didn't know why on Earth she'd understand so simple a signal. Sure, raising a hand meant stop, but she got a more complete message put of it than that.
The figure itself looked human enough, except for the giant wings coming out of its back. The wings were something interesting in themselves, sort of white and yellow, and looking to be made of light, not feathers. It wore a hood, which effectively hid its face. The rest of what he wore was a series of white silk garments wrapped around him. At this point in Jess' train of thought she came to the assumption that it was indeed male, being that it had to breasts to speak of and the rest of the figure seemed masculine enough.
A soothingly deep voice came from within the hood, and the voice also confirmed her assumption of it being male, “Mortal, you have been brought here so that you may be given an offer. Listen carefully to what I have to say before answering,” His voice echoed about, although Jess had no idea what the sound was bouncing off of, “There is a place, far from you own home. This land is as different from your world as it is far, and you are being given an offer to live there for a short time. Know this; if you choose to accept, then you will be allowed to return home briefly to gather whatever items you wish to take with you. Also, whatever amount of time in total you spend in this new world will have no effect on you after returning home. In plainer terms, if you spent a decade there you would return home the same age as when you left. If you lost a limb then when you came back home it would be there again. The only thing that will change if that you will still have the memories of that place. If you choose to refuse my offer, then I will send you back home and you will remember nothing of our encounter. If you accept, then I will give you more information on this land you will be sent to among other things. What say you?”
At first Jess thought that a million questions would be running around in her head, but upon reflection realized that there were only a few aimlessly floating around. Before answering, she decided to mull over in her head what she had just heard. She had no idea who he was or why he'd offer her this, but from what he said it sounded like a dream come true. She spent a lot of her time reading fantasy books and playing games of all kinds with similar features, so this would also be like a game; but an unbelievably fun one.
“Well… Okay! I mean, it sounds like a good offer to me… But why would you give me this?” Although she could not see his eyes, she could have sworn that she felt his glare as he replied, “Who are you to question me? Does my reasoning matter? You have some nerve, mortal. I never thought that anyone would be so impudent and rude as to question my motives so brazenly.” Jess was startled, as she hadn't meant to offend him, she was only curious. Feeling slightly hurt, she mumbled an apology. The uncomfortable feeling of his gaze went away, and he set off filling her in on the rest of the details.
From what she gathered of what he said, she was going to some place called Tamriel. Or at least that was the name of the continent. The country she'd be sent to was known as Cyrodiil. There were many different species on this world. There would be High Elves (yellow or golden skin, tall, snooty… typical fantasy elves), Wood Elves (short, also a relatively typical elf type), Dark Elves (pretty cold bunch, dark blue skin and red eyes), orcs (you know what those are!), Khajiit (cat-like people), Agonians (lizard-folk), and various races of humans. The human races were Bretons (think of the stereotype for the British), Imperials (main inhabitance of Cyrodiil, guess who they're like. *coughROMANScough*), Nords (barbarians, I guess), and Redgaurds (I know this might sound bad, but black people. They're black.).
Confusingly enough, the Elvin races call themselves something different than what most humans would call them. The High Elves call themselves Altmer, the Dark Elves say Dunmer, and the Wood Elves say Bosmer. Luckily, they were the only ones with a difference. Although each place had its own native language, she'd be given knowledge of Cyrodiilic. Her stay there would initially be one year, but she would have chances at extending her stay there by completing certain tasks. Each task could gain her a year, and some more challenging ones would grant her five more years. The latter, though, could prove to be very perilous indeed. She was also told as an afterthought that if she died within Tamriel, she'd be dead without a hope of returning home safe and sound. This news didn't unnerve her, really, as she was too overjoyed at the prospect of the adventures she could have.

Jess dashed off as quickly as she could manage to her house. She ran upstairs and grabbed the old leather sack that her mom had always wanted her to use. She never did normally, because she found her backpack far more useful, but she figured that this would blend in much nice while she was in Tamriel. She wasn't sure weather or not to bring her sneakers, but in the end decided to do so. They were more comfortable than her boots or her sandals, and as long as she didn't grow anymore then she'd be set for her stay there. She grabbed some basic hygiene objects, like soap, a razor, shampoo and all… This took up the bulk of her space, but she managed to fit in a set of pajamas and a notepad. She figured that after her journey she'd not believe what happened was real unless she had some proof.
After assembling these things, she ran back outside. She decided to wear a rather tight fitting pair of blue-jeans and a white, long-sleeved, button-up shirt. She jumped back into the rift and found herself now not in the white room, but in what appeared to be outer space. It was much more stable than that, though, and there seemed to be some kind of ground beneath her. Far below was the world that she assumed she'd be going to soon. The angel (or at least she assumed that was what he was) began to make a gesture that Jess was sure would send her off, but before he managed she blurted out, “Could you make it so that I can see just fine? I really don't like my glasses, and they'll be such a hassle for me…” The angel halted what he was doing and just nodded wordlessly. He made not gesture this time, but instead Jess just instantly found that her glasses made things fuzzy, so she removed them and smiled broadly. Things looked so much nicer now that her vision wasn't halted by glass frames…
She wasn't paying attention to the angel, being so fascinated by everything else, so she didn't see him when he waved his hand and sent her down to Tamriel. A yellow light surrounded her, and when it all cleared away she found herself atop a hill, looking down on the capital of Cyrodiil, the Imperial City.
The capital itself was surrounded by water, and seemed to have been built atop a lake. Things were mostly clear of trees and the like around the city, but farther out there was a dense forest. The flat grasslands were spotted his farm houses and the farm fields themselves. The sun shone brightly upon everything, making the corn fields look like a golden blanket. A very empowering tune rang through her head, and she happily ran down the hill towards the city, overjoyed at all of the open land around her. The Imperial City was surrounded by a vastly high wall, and what she could only assume was the palace towered over these walls. There was a very high and long bridge leading from the land to the city, and she made her way towards it. Being here, thinking about all of the things she could do… It gave her more than enough energy to dash over to the bridge.
Or at least, she THOUGHT it would give her enough energy. By the time she got
