Neron frowned as Loki and his master left. He winced with every movement he made. Going to the now cold pizza he had put on their plates, he sighed as he took a bite. "The gods have forsaken me.... I wish I knew why."

"We...need help, Neron." Going across the room, she grabbed her cell. "Someone with connections...and money," she added. Scrolling down her phone she looked at Keith's number.

Neron hated to admit it but she was right. The fact that so much time had passed since the war began completely changed everything. While he'd been peacefully slumbering away his brothers and sisters had taken to building armies, regaining their powers, and doing who knew what else. He needed help just to stay alive right now.

Keith answered on the third ring. "Yo! Mia, you dump that zero and finally ready to get with a hero?"

"Keith, when we first became friends...you said that you would help me no matter what. You said that you would be there for me when I needed you and it didn't matter what I needed you for you would be there," she said slowly. "Do...do you still mean that?" Keith was her best friend even though they fault all the time and she was the only girl he couldn't score with. Ever since she met him five years ago, he and she had been the closest of friend. They even applied to the same collages together.

Keith took a deep breath as he heard this. "Tell me what you want."

"Can you come over? If I explain it to you on the phone...you'll think I'm crazy, but remember when I said Neron and I share a bond? Well...that bond is part of...a war," she explained slowly. "Just...hurry..."

Keith sighed as he heard this. "I'm afraid I can't come over right now. I'm in the middle of something that's very important. Tomorrow.... I'll come by tomorrow and we can talk."

Mia sighed but agreed. She would take whatever he would offer. "Thanks," she said and hung up. Closing her front door she looked at the bullet hole. "How am I going to explain that to my landlord?"

Neron looked over at the bullet hole and shrugged. "It's not that noticeable," he said with a shrug. He was more preoccupied with the whole, healing himself after being burned and beaten. His skin was still flaking off in dark specs from third degree burns. "I'm certain she'll look right over it."

Neron spent the night on the couch, simply because he didn't want to ruin her bed with dead flesh which flaked off of him as he healed. By the time morning came, the third degree burns now looked like severe sunburns. His stab wounds were scars and his bruises were long gone.

As he promised, Keith was there bright and early, though he didn't particularly look happy about his being there. "Okay. What's up? What trouble has this guy gotten you into and why is there a bullet hole in your door?"

Mia let him in and closed the door. Taking his hand she sat him down. "You aren't going to believe me when I explain it to you, so I'll explain everything I know then give you a demonstration," she said. Taking a deep breath she went over how she first found Neron and how their bond worked. She explained about the knife she had and she held it up for him. She went on and on telling him everything, filling him in...leaving out the part about sex and then stopped. "I know it's a lot to believe, but I'm prepared to show you." Taking her blade, she cut her palm slightly. Showing him the small cut, she reached over to Neron who took her hand and transferred the cut to his own hand. The small cut already started to heal. She then showed him her untouched palm.

Keith was silent as he listened to everything she told him and then when he saw Neron's little trick he simply frowned. Looking between the two of them, he sighed and ran his hands through his hair. "Mia, what the hell have you dragged me into? What can I do about this?"

Mia looked at him, her face soft and apologetic. "I'm sorry. If you don't want part in this, you can just walk away, but I don't trust anyone else with this. You have money and contacts...and a place for us to lay low if something really bad were to happen. Like I said...they are suppose to have armies in this...the closest thing I have to an army is you. Everyone has thirty years a head of me. I...have four days."

Keith groaned and leaned his head back. He looked over at Neron and frowned. "So you don't remember anything about your past?"

"No," Neron told him. "All I have are fragments. Bits and pieces. Apparently I have upset the gods and they are punishing me."
"That's the understatement of the year," he sighed. Rubbing his eyes he shook his head. "So when you win, you get to become mortal, right?"

"Yes, that is our prize for winning."

He nodded once more and looked back to Mia. "I don't really know what I can do. I don't have an army! I mean, I can try to help you the best I can, but I don't know exactly what I can do for you."

"I can't do this alone. It's not like I can walk up to another master and beg them to teach me to do this," she said. "If it was that easy I would have already hunt someone down. After last night...I realize that death is only part of this. I could be tortured or Neron could. Our bond is so strong...even the smallest of pain is shared."

Keith's eyes widened at this. "Really? That sounds more like a curse than a blessing," he muttered.

"It has its advantages," Neron told him. He just wasn't going to state what those advantages were.

Mia blushed at that. "Yeah..."

Keith groaned. "You guys did it didn't you? I'm pretty certain that's against some sort of rules."

Mia blushed brighter. "Shut up, Keith! It's not like it's easy!"

"You did do it!" Keith didn't know whether he should laugh or cry. "I've been trying for years to score and he just waltzes in and gets you? That's so unfair!" His eyes narrowed as he looked at Mia. "This bond is messing with your mind." He poked her head. "Do you love him?"

Mia rubbed her head. "Stop that. And it's none of your business."

Keith frowned. "No, it was none of my business to know about this. Whether or not you love an immortal killing machine became my business when you dragged me into this."

Mia looked at Neron and then at Keith. "I don't think I have to answer that. It's personal...and whether I do or not shouldn't affect anything."

"How do you know that? For all you know it could affect everything."

"It doesn't," Neron said quickly. "Her emotions affect her heart. As long as they are positive than her heart is strong which means I will be powerful."

"Yeah, that really seemed to help you last night."

"I'm still new at this, Keith. I don't know what I'm doing. You can at least cut me some slack. What would you do if you had been chosen to do this?" she said softly.

"I would have told them to screw themselves," he told her bluntly. Looking back at her, he groaned when he saw her face. "I'll do some digging. See what I can't find out. There's got to be some mention of this in the history books."

She quickly hugged him. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!" she sang.

Keith rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you owe me some naughty pictures for this."

Neron's eyes narrowed as he heard this.

She pulled back and smacked him in the head. "Just because I'm not a virgin anymore doesn't mean you get any special treatment."

Keith pouted. "I wanted to be the one to pop your cherry!" He glared at Neron as he stood. "I'll call you when I find something, but I want at least 10 naughty pics in return for my valuable information."

"You'll get a smile and a hug at the most," Mia said.

Keith waved as he started to leave. "Yeah. Whatever. Don't let your luscious body be destroyed or ravaged while I'm gone."

After he left, Neron growled beneath his breath. "He is a whore."

Mia laughed. "I didn't even know you knew what that meant," she said smiling. "But yes, he is. He has good intentions though. He'll help anyway he can."

Neron could not help but to look somewhat still sour about this whole ordeal. "I will have to lay low until my powers fully return. Last night Loki could have finished me off with a simple glance. Even with him toying around I still realized that I was no match for him." Walking over to her, he began to massage her shoulders. "I wonder how many of my brothers and sisters are left."

"Does it really matter?" she asked. She moved from him and started to pack. She packed her clothes and his clothes as well as all her first aid things. "We can stay at Keith's house. He has a pretty decent size house even though he's the only one living in it. His parents are rolling in the money...oddly....I've never met them." Sending a text to Keith, she told him to keep his door unlocked. She was coming over. "I use to stay at his place when my landlord had to do repairs."

Keith quickly replied to her text. "Now not a good time. House is under repairs. I'll get you a motel room. Will send info."

Neron watched as she packed, not certain really what he could do to help. "Actually, it does matter. Depending on how many are left changes the game considerably."

Mia looked at her phone. "The house in under repairs? Since when?" She looked at Neron. "I see."

Neron grabbed her bag and looked back at her. "It doesn't really matter where we stay. We will be found." He wasn't being pessimistic, he was simply telling her the truth. They could be in an underground fortress and still be found.

"It's been a work in progress. Why else do you think I was gonna stay at the beach house all break?"

Mia groaned and put her phone in her pocket. She looked at Neron. "Then what are we suppose to do?"

Neron looked at the device she was using, but shrugged it off. "If you wish to go somewhere else we can. However, it will only prolong the ensuing battle. Still, hiding may be the best option until we find out more about what's going on and I gain the ability to use more of my powers."

She nodded. Handing him some bags and a shirt, she looked at her phone as it beeped. Keith sent her the information on where to go for a hotel. Grabbing her car keys, they rushed out and got in. "It's not like I want to run from this. But you said we needed to lay low," she said as she started to drive off.

He nodded, watching the scenery fly past them he ended up closing his eyes. He tried to remember anything which might explain why he had been forsaken by his god. "If Loki is able to summon ethereal elements, than I am no match for any of my brothers or sisters now. I just wish that I knew more about what was going on."

While they drove, he opened up his eyes and scanned their surroundings. "Take a right here," he told her.

She glanced at him with question, but took the right. "Where are we going?"
