Keith rolled his eyes and pulled two cigarettes from a pack. "You're immortal now. You'll be fine. A girl who smokes is hot."
Mia smiled. "Don't tell my parents. I haven't smoked since dad came back from his second trip from Iraq. Every time he leaves, mom stressed out and put a lot of pressure on me. I only smoked one per week or so, but it helped." Taking the cigarette from him, she light it and took a drag. "Seriously, how did you find me, Keith?"
He lit his own cigarette and took a deep drag of it as well. "Like I said, it was an educated guess." Sitting down by the fire, he motioned for her to sit as well. "I found out some info about this whole thing. Do you want me to tell you what I found out?"
Mia watched the fire and nodded to him. "I don't buy the educated guess. No one knew I knew of this place or that I came here. But you can keep your secret. Just know that I'm not letting this go."
Blowing out smoke, he smirked. "First, you told me the god he fights for is named Perses correct?"
Mia nodded again. Leaning her head on his shoulder, she smoked the cigarette.
He wrapped an arm around her, the smirk never leaving his face. "So, did lover boy over there tell you about Perses?"
"He knows about as much as I know about this war. And the only thing I know is that we fight until no one is left," she said. "Keith, I'm sorry I called you earlier. You were right before, I shouldn't have drug you into this."
Keith shrugged. "I still want those naughty pics, but I'll take this for now." Plucking the cigarette out of her mouth he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers.
Mia's eye got wide. She didn't snap back, but she did pull back, slowly. Looking at him, she scanned his eyes, her face soft, and unsure. "Don't...do that."
He smirked. "Why not? You can't tell me that you didn't enjoy that. At least I'm human," he said, casting a glance at the resting Neron.
Mia looked at the fire again. "I'm immortal, Keith. And you are not use to having one girl. You will want a fling. I don't want that," she said slowly. Yes, she enjoyed it. In fact, in the past, she had thought long and hard about being with him, but it always came back to the fact that he didn't want her the way she wanted to be wanted. Though...she was sure Neron didn't either, but at least Neron would stick around.
He chuckled at that. "That's the thing with immortality. You have all the time in the world, so why waste it on just once person." Handing her back her cigarette, he took another draw from his. Blowing it out, he stared out into the night sky. "Perses, according to the wikipedia...is the titan god of destruction."
Mia looked at him. "You speak as if you're immortal, Keith," she said quickly. Looking back at the fire, she started smoking again. "So...I'm working for a God that wants to destroy everything. And I'm all freaking alone in this. Why don't I just admit my life sucks so bad right now?"
"Oh come on. You're immortal. You get to do whatever you want," he told her. "Live. Enjoy yourself. Pleasure yourself...let me watch. But seriously, enjoy it while you can." Flicking the remnants of his cigarette into the fire he pulled out another. "So, do you want me to tell you what all else I found out?"
She took the cigarette from him. "You've had too. You're not immortal, so two is enough for now." She grabbed the rest of his cigarettes and moved them to the side. "And you will never see me naked. Just like Neron said, you really don't deserve me," she smirked. "And you aren't immortal, so why are you going through girls like food?" She took the last drag of her cigarette and threw it in the fire. "Continue."
He groaned. "Right and he does? What's so special about him that you'd let him pop your cherry anyways?" He reached around her to grab his cigarettes. His eyes danced about the fire, awaiting her answer while he thought of his own to her questions.
"He...is with me until we win...or die." She looked back at Neron. "And I think it has a lot to do with the bond we share. I kind of feel like we are one person." Her eyes met Keith's. "It's not like I haven't thought about us before. But with you being with wouldn't mean as much to you as it would me. I didn't want to be another notch on your belt. I know I deserve better than that."
Keith shrugged. "If you say so, but you're missing out. I'm a god in bed." He smirked as his eyes ran over her. "It's not my place to question, but is sleeping with a demi-god really what you want?" Shaking his head he silenced her. "Never mind. I don't want to find out all your dirty perverted secrets. Let's just talk about the mess you've gotten yourself into. What all do you want to know about this? I only found some brief mentions of it in old books, but it's still more than you probably know."
"I already told you what I know. We fight, we die, the end."
"There's more to it than that," he told her. "A lot more. You're his guardian, right? I think that's what the books called it. You're his master. He has to follow any order you give. Literally, he has to follow it no matter what it says. Once he wins, or once he dies you will lose your immortality. However, it is said that the guardian of the winner gets granted one wish by the gods....So if he wins, he could still be immortal."
"But only if he wishes to be immortal...." she said catching on. "But who wants to live the rest of their life alone? Sure you could fall in love, but they will eventually die. You could see the world, but there is only so much to see. Sounds so lonely. At least when your a guardian and an immortal, you have company."
"I dunno, given a few centuries it might get boring, but what else would you wish for?"
"Well...if we win, and my God has control...I would wish for him to leave the world alone so he doesn't destroy it. Or maybe I would wish that a more benevolent God would have control instead," she said. "After all, if we win...the world is over anyways so the fight will be for nothing, Neron's freedom would only last so long. It's unfair."
He smirked, but there was a darkness to it. "Do you really have to ask? A harem full of girls to fulfill my every pleasure."
Mia laughed. She leaned her head on his shoulder again. "I really doubt that, Keith. I know you have a good heart. Really, what would you wish for?"
"I don't know," he admitted. "I'd probably take the immortality. I mean, why not? Sure it might get lonely, but I'm not really the type to settle down with anyone, so I think it would be fine. I could do the whole Dracula thing and lure unsuspecting maidens to my dark, foreboding, beach house condo!"
She laughed again. "How did I end up being your friend? Do you even have any other girls for friends that you haven't slept with?"
"Nope!" He laughed and smiled. "No one could resist my charms, and I'm telling you, none of them regretted it afterward."
"Well, even if we ever did sleep together, I wouldn't have much to compare it to," she said. "You should go home," she yawned. "It's really late. And you still haven't told me why you are here and how you found out I was here."
"No way you're staying here," he muttered. "I'm paying for a perfectly good hotel with a vibrating bed. You're going there and you're using it."
She shook her head. "I know the cops are looking for me, and I'm not leaving Neron. Besides, it's not like I can show up at a hotel with a sleeping guy that has two broken legs and a missing arm."
"You talking about the gas explosion over at the construction site? Cause all the media is talking about is how the construction owners are getting sued for faulty wiring, which resulted in sparks and explosions that nearly leveled a city block." He stood and nudged Neron with his foot. "Whoever these guys are, someone higher up is making certain that their fighting is kept away from public eye. You guys could probably fight in the middle of a mall and people wouldn't do anything about it."
Mia looked at him in disbelief. "I can't believe that they could just cover it up with such a lie. All those people..." She looked at Neron. Place her hand on his face she sighed. "Can't we just stay at your place? I don't care about the construction." Looking as him she moved closer. "Please...I don't want to stay in a hotel. I'm already so alone as it is."
He frowned as she moved closer. "It's just...it's not a good idea. What would I tell my parents if my house suddenly exploded due to supernatural demi-gods fighting?" He places his hands on her shoulders and smiled. "The hotel isn't far from my house, if you want just give me a call and I'll come to you."
She stood and shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I want to stay here. No one lives around here for miles." Pushing him to the door, she smiled. "Go, I'll be fine. And don't come back. I don't want you in this anymore. You can't really help me...and I don't want you hurt."
He muttered something as she pushed him out the door. "Keep a strong heart," he told her as he looked at her. "For both of you. A strong heart. A happy heart. A loved heart. Those three features are what will make him stronger. Will keep him safe. His powers will come back according to your heart's desire."
Mia stared at him suspiciously. "Keith...what are you hiding?"
He smirked. "Me? Hiding something? You've got to be kidding. I'm the one who leaked my own sex tapes. I've got nothing to hide. I was just offering you some advice that I read. That's all."
She didn't buy, but she nodded. Leaning in she pressed her lips over his, massaging them for a moment before pulling back. "So you'll remember me...because I think this is the last time I'll see you. I won't come to you anymore, Keith. I'm sorry I ever did. You didn't deserve to know all this."
His hands wrapped around her waist as he stopped her from moving. "Just a kiss? I think I'll need more to remember you by."
"Sorry, I don't have anything else to offer you," she said shrugging. "But, Keith...please...be careful out there. I don't know what I'll do if I find out something happened to you."
Before she could say anything else he pressed his lips roughly against hers as he let his tongue dip into her throat. He smirked into the kiss as he pressed her against the wall. She had more to offer him, and he wasn't going to let her simply walk out of his life like this.
Mia's body tingled. Her hands went to his chest and pushed him lightly until he broke the kiss. "Please...don't..." she begged. "I can't."
"Why not?" He whispered a she stared at her. "You know whatever you're feeling for him, it isn't real. You thought about us before, that was real. These...emotions, or whatever it is. That's forced on you."
"It doesn't matter if it is or isn't. What I feel I know he feels too, and even if it isn't real, it's more than I can say for you. I told you, I don't want to be another notch. I refuse."
Keith groaned and pulled away. "Well there goes my boner." Reaching into his pocket, he fished out her cell. "I'll be in touch." He winked as he waved and started to leave.
Mia quickly grabbed his hand and placed the phone back in it. "I said no. I don't want your help. You can't help me. And I don't want you in this anymore. Unless you could get me some actual contact with a guardian that isn't willing to kill me, you are no help." She could feel her heart aching. "I mean it, Keith. Don't come around."
He reached up and dropped the cell phone down her shirt. "Take it," he told her. "You never know when you'll need a friendly face." He then proceeded to drop plastic card down her shirt. "That's for the hotel room if you ever decide to use it."
Taking the things out of her shirt she glared at him. "When you leave, I'm burning them."
"I wouldn't advise it, but do as you want. Though I'd at least call your parents one last time before you decide to push everyone away. Sometimes it’s easier to hide in plain sight than to hide in the middle of nowhere where no one can hear you scream." With one last wave, he pulled out his keys and turned on his car before sliding in. Dust kicked up behind his wheels as he spun off into the night.
Mia looked down at the phone. Her parents...already she missed them. She had been seen on the construction sight...maybe people would think she was among the dead and someone would notify her parents. It was better that way...right? Going back to the fire, she sat down in front of it. First, she threw the hotel key in it, watching it burn. Again, she looked at the phone. Placing her hand over her heart, she knew this was a sacrifice she had to make. Her parents would never understand and she would never be able to go see them and show them like she showed Keith. If she threw that phone in the fire, it would really mean that she was alone. Tears slip from her eyes. Shaky hand finally threw the phone in the fire. Pulling her knees to her chest, she placed her arms on her knees and her head buried in her arms as she cried.
Morning came sooner than she wanted it too. She watched the sun rise and sat on the porch of the old farm house while trying to decide what to do next. Grabbing her blade, she went to the yard and started practicing.
