"True...but the gods are suppose to be just and fair. At least...most of them are suppose to be that way. If I did something good, I should be rewarded. Not punished."

Mia shrugged. "Eventually, I'm sure we will find out."

"Yes, I certainly hope so. I've never been a fan of mysteries, especially not when I'm my own mystery." He knelt down and laid beside her. "We're going to have to go back into town eventually."

She sat up. "Why?"

"Because eventually the pull will force me to find another of my brethren and kill them. It's a safeguard of sorts against us just trying to live our lives here on earth. If we go so long without killing, we will eventually be driven mad by the desire." Looking over at her expression he smiled. "Don't worry. I've already claimed one of my sister's lives, I have quite a while before anything like that will happen to me."

"Stop calling them your brothers and sisters," she said standing. Going to the house she grabbed her keys. "I don't like the idea of someone killing their brother or sister." Getting in the car, she ushered him to join her. Going to town was smart. They needed food and other things.

He frowned as he got into the car. "I believe it was the Greeks who first called us brothers and sisters," he told her. "Me, Zeus, Athena, Apollo, and -" He stopped and held his head tightly. Whenever he seemed to start to recall something it was as if someone stabbed his skull and then the memories would simply fade away. He winced as he opened his eyes. "My past is the key to this. If we can uncover this we can figure out everything."

Mia's hand went to her head and she hissed. "If they feel like that...I'm not sure I want you to get them back," she joked. Starting the car, she headed back to town, avoiding main roads.

"If you can't handle a little mental stab then you'll never make it through it if I start corroding away from acid." He shuddered slightly. "So, are you going to pay Keith a visit while we are in town?"

Mia tensed at the sound of Keith's name. "No..." she said sadly.

"He might warrant another visit," Neron told her. "He's hiding something."

"I know, but he asked me not to go to his house. Besides, I don't want to show up there and someone attack us...I don't want to be around him if it means I'm risking his life. It's why I think staying at the farm house is smarter than staying in town. If someone were to attack us, we are far enough away so no one will get hurt," she said as she drove.

He was silent at this. She was worried about others. Soon she would learn that some sacrifice would have to be made. When they neared the major part of the city, he reached back and pulled on a shirt and the shoes she had bought him. He still had to play the part of blending in. "What all do you need to get?"

"Towels, food...toilet paper," she laughed at the last part. Pulling to a store she got out.

Neron looked at her with a small smirk, but followed her into the store nonetheless. While she shopped, he looked around. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. It had been a constant feeling for quite some time now, but with the recent activity he was on guard more than ever. Two immortals had already found him. How many would come after him and try to pick him off while he was weak?

Mia grabbed food, towels, candles, toilet paper, and many other things they would need to get by for a few weeks. Going to the register, she paid for it then looked at him as they started back to the car. "We really have to make this stuff last. Since I'm not relying on my parents for money anymore, we really have to budget." She put the bags in the back seat and got back in the car. "You feel tense."

He was zoned out when she talked to him. When she finally touched his arm he looked over at her. Shaking his head he gave her a weak smile. "I'm sorry. I've just been.... Well, I think that I'm being followed, though I have no idea why one of my-" He stopped suddenly and sniffed the air. "What's that smell?"

Mia paled. "Oh my God..." she whispered. "Gas..." Grabbing Neron's hand she pulled at him. "We have to get out of here!"

Neron saw a flame. Blades extended from his arms and he twirled around them. His blades easily cut through the metal of the roof. Kicking it upward, he grabbed Mia and kicked the roof back. The fire hit the roof, protecting them as he jumped, but the fire ignited the gas which in turn made the car into an enormous fragmentation device.

Mia screamed as her body suddenly felt the heat. She screamed not because she was hurt but because it had scared her when the suddenly flames danced about them. Clinging to Neron she closed her eyes tightly while her car exploded.

Pieces of metal flew at them, but with his free arm he was able to block or cut most of them. The pieces that embedded in their flesh was nothing more than a small nuisance to him. Setting her down on the ground, he watched as people began to run and scream for help. Other people had not been so lucky to avoid the flames or shrapnel. He looked everywhere, trying to find his assailant.

Another fire blast erupted from the street corner. Grabbing one of the remnants of the car, he hissed as the hot metal burnt into his flesh. Still, it was better than the alternative. He used the metal as a shield against the flames, batting it away. As soon as he lowered the shield a fist caught him in the face sending him crashing into a building.

A man stood before him. A smug smirk on his face as his blue eyes pierced Neron. Pushing the brown locks from his eyes, he ran his hand over a long scar which traversed his face resembling claw marks. "Time to pay you back for these," he chuckled.

People were running past Mia to get away and call for help. An Asian girl collided with her, scraping Mia's arm in the process. "I'm sorry!" She said and knelt to help her up. "Come on! This place isn't safe."

Mia pulled from her. "I can't...this is my fight," she said. Looking at the car she rushed to Neron. Her blade was in the car. Ripping some of her shirt she wrapped it around her hand and grabbed a chunk of metal from what was left of her car. It wasn't large, but it wasn't small either. It burned through her make shift glove but she bared the pain. She couldn't be defenseless.

Neron wiped his jaw as blood dripped from his lips. "And who might you be?"

"You don't remember me, do ya? You don't remember this scar you burned into my face?" The immortal spat with anger. Without waiting for Neron's reply he lunged at him. His hands transformed into claws as he tore through Neron's flesh. As soon as Neron's blades ripped from his hands, the two immortals began to clash. They were but phantoms, dancing on top of cars, flipping off of buildings. The only signs of their movements were the gashes which would appear on metal and brick as they moved.

Mia didn't know what to do. She stood there watching and eventually started helping people move to safety. She still hadn't seen the warrior's master yet, but then again, she didn't see the last one either. Scanning the area, she watched as Neron and the immortal move to the next street. Mia ran as fast as she could to try and keep up with them, the metal shards from before digging deeper into her body making her grind her teeth with every step.

The immortal flipped around a light pole, his feet slamming into Neron's chest sending him skidding back until he hit a car. Landing gracefully, on his feet, the immortal licked the blood from his claws. "Unluckily for you, this dog's bark is worse than his bite." His eyes glowed with yellow power as he took a deep breath. He growled, though it was unlike any growl than any mortal ears had heard in centuries. The vibrations which occurred, ripped flesh from bone, turned bricks to dust, and steel bent under its force.

Neron watched as three people who were running screamed in agony before their heads erupted. He tried to drown out the horrific sound, but the pain was overwhelming his senses. He fell to his knees in pain as blood dripped from his ears, eyes, nose, and lips.

Mia stopped running when she suddenly fell to her knees screaming. She grabbed her ears, crying out but she had no idea what was happening. In the distance, she could hear something screeching. She couldn't see it or Neron because she hadn't caught up with him yet, but as she sat on her knees screaming, she knew it was Neron's pain she was feeling.

"Neron..." she whispered through the pain.

Forcing herself to her feet, she started running again with her hands over her ears. Her heart was pounding hard and through the pain she started to think of the night before when they were in the water. She needed to hold onto that feeling in her heart so Neron could get stronger. Stopping because of the pain, she leaned against a car and slid down. Closing her eyes, she went over and over all the things he said that night. She did this until she could feel his hands on her skin and the goose bumps rising. Her heart sped up with adoration and she pushed it towards Neron. Giving him everything her heart had for him.

Neron coughed up blood as his flesh began to peel off his limbs. Altogether it wasn't a pleasing feeling at all. Rather it felt like, well, it felt like someone was peeling his skin off. There wasn't much that he could compare that feeling to. He suddenly had a deep regret for every banana that he ever ate.

The immortal took another step toward him. His sonic screeched tearing up the ground as he walked. Neron could barely make out the signs of someone shouting and yelling. Looking in the direction, he saw several men his dark blue uniforms pointing something at the immortal.

They shot something. It was fiery, hot, and fast and slammed into the immortal's chest. The immortal didn't stop. Instead he just turned his head toward them and watched as the flesh was ripped from their bones.

That distraction, however, brief, allowed Neron to get his bearings. This guy's voice could only be directed in a straight pattern. While he was dealing with whoever was attacking him, Neron was safe. As blood pooled down his limbs he tried to move his arms, wincing at the pain. When he moved his hands, he noticed the blood moved with him. A bloodied smile graced his bleeding face as a tiny drop of blood floated into the air.

The blood drop thinned out, forming a needle of blood. With nothing but thought, the needle shot through the air and sliced through the throat of the immortal. The immortal quickly grabbed its bleeding throat as its voice began to dim. Glowing yellow eyes turned to Neron as a feral growl escaped his lips.

Mia stood once the pain suddenly stopped. She looked around and spotted the area she knew Neron was. She took two steps and suddenly grabbed her head. Her world began to spin around her and she couldn't focus.

"What's...what's wrong with me...." she whispered.

She grabbed the car to steady herself and threw up. Coughing and trying to clear her thoughts, tears poured from her eyes and the spinning continued. Mia collapsed on the pavement while her body suddenly felt like it was on fire. She began to sweat. Looking in the direction of Neron, she reached out.

"Help..."

As the immortal tried another trick, Neron was already moving. His blood flowed from his open wounds, but now it flowed for him. The rivers of blood rose up, forming deadly scythes which moved with his arms. Stepping forward, he reached out to strike the immortal. The beast jumped to avoid it, but with a thought the blood stretched forward and stabbed into his shoulder.

The immortal growled, and sliced through the blood with his claws. He disappeared, moving faster than even Neron could keep track of. Pain erupted from his back as the immortal sliced through his flesh and his teeth dug into Neron's shoulder. Pulling back, he ripped a chunk off of Neron's shoulder.

Spitting the flesh onto the ground, the immortal growled into Neron's ear. "I have already won this." With one powerful jump, he pulled them both into the air. He tossed Neron onto the ground of the roof, but before Neron could recover he was upon him once again. His teeth sinking into Neron's arm as he held Neron down.

Neron screamed in pain, but his new wounds reacted to his wishes. Blood shot out like spikes, spearing through the immortal's jaw and back. His arms which held Neron fell to the ground as he howled in pain. Neron, turned and kicked him off of him. While the immortal staggered back, Neron pushed himself up. Blades of blood danced dangerously around him. "It's done," he spat through blood. "You can't fight without arms. I've won."

The immortal laughed loudly. "Please! As if I'd fight fair after what you did to me! Your master is already dead. My master saw to it with some nightshade. Fitting isn't it? By the time you get to her, she'll already be dead."

Neron's eyes widened. Through his own pain, he could barely feel the pain which was racking her. Why hadn't he sensed it sooner? He ran and jumped off the roof, landing on the ground with a sickening thud, he pushed past the pain. Rounding the corner, he saw a purple haired woman kneeling over Mia with a needle shoved into her arm. With a flick of his wrist the blood sent the woman flying as he hurried to Mia. "What the hell did you do to her?"

Mia was shaking vigorously and her vision was so blurred that she couldn't see anything. Things were going black and she could hear the faint sound of Neron's voice. It was muffled and sounded so far away. She was covered in her own sweat and in the back of her mind, she knew she was dying. How did this happen?

The woman that had just been over Mia flipped her hair back as she watched Mia. She glanced at Neron. "She'll be fine in a day or two. I gave her and antidote. My master made sure that I was to cause her no harm. I promise you...she is safe," the woman said. She disappeared on seconds later.

Neron growled as she left. He looked over Mia, and stroked her face, smearing blood on her pale cheeks. Their car was destroyed...what would they do? He didn't know his way around the city, and had no idea where they could go. Lifting her into his arms he jumped up to the roof and surveyed the area. "Mia," he whispered as he nuzzled her face. She was unconscious. She wouldn't be any help.

That woman.... Her master had asked her to help Mia. That didn't make any sense. Anyone who wanted to win should have let her die right there. With another leap he landed onto the roof of the adjacent building. He recognized the area as the place where they'd gone for pancakes that one day. He hoped that at least his new memories were as vivid as he thought they were. Retracing his steps, he found them back at her apartment complex. Going up to her room, he tried the door, but it was locked.

His blade shifted from his wrist as he slid it up the crack. A second later he was inside setting her down on the couch. Going to her bathroom, he grabbed towels to wipe himself and her off. Nightshade was a deadly poison. It kills quickly, and since she wasn't dead yet he could only assume that the woman had been true to her word and had given her an antidote.

He worked first to remove the shrapnel from her flesh. After that he placed his hands over her wounds one by one until her body was fine once more. The only thing he could do was take the poison out of her system. Taking off her clothes, he put a wet rag on her head while he worked to get the blood off of her.
