Keith stirred his martini and looked over at Sophitia. "Give her a chocolate monkey," he said with a small wink.
"How about nothing with alcohol in it," Mia said quickly. Glaring at Keith she pinched him. "I don't drink."
"Oh come on. It's like a drop of alcohol," he told her. "Not nearly enough to get you drunk."
"Let me see, you and me...on a couch and me drinking...I'm a light weight, that means it only takes a drop to get me drunk."
“Correction. You, me, and Sophitia," he smirked. When she glared at him, he relented. "Fine, just fix her a hot cocoa."
"Chocolate milkshake," Mia corrected. Sophitia nodded.
"You've gotten better at fighting, but you still need to work on your accuracy with shooting and with fighting dirty. Most of these guardians wouldn't think twice about using a baby as a shield against you."
Mia groaned. "If you can't come up with something else to talk to me other than practice, then don't talk to me at all."
"Well, we can always talk about sex."
Neron stared up at the night sky. He'd fallen asleep beneath the severely mutilated tree, and only been awake for a little while. As he sat there admiring the sky, he felt a familiar presence. Staring up, he noticed a raven staring down at him. "Loki, I know it's you."
The raven fluttered to the ground, as it did it changed shapes into Loki. "So, do you have your memory back, yet?"
"No," Neron replied sourly.
"Pity. I was hoping we could have some fun. B urn a city down like back in the old times."
Neron looked up at him. "Tell me, what kind of person was I back then?"
"Cruel. Vindictive. Manipulative. Great in bed. You were a monster through and through, and one hell of a drunk."
"You talk, I'll ignore," Mia said.
"There are two warriors in the forest," Sophitia said. "Master, what do you wish to do?"
"Neron!" Mia shot up from her seat and ran out the door.
Keith shot up and grabbed his gun. "Any idea who it is?"
Neron looked up at Loki with a frown. "I've won the tournament three times before, correct?"
"Yep. I fought you in each one. Though two of the times couldn't really be considered fights. One time you seduced my master and killed her in her sleep. The second time we were both drunk and you cut off my head." He ran his hand across his throat at the memory. "Not one of my best dates."
"I can only tell that it's two warriors, nothing more," Sophitia said.
Mai ran to the forest, not knowing which way to go. She had no shoes on and it was too dark to see the ground. Her feet were killing her and she was getting slapped by stray sticks that were sticking out from trees. Pushing pass the pain, she called for Neron but got no answer. How far away was he?
"So I'm a bastard. I can live with that."
"Yeah, that about sums it up," Loki laughed. "But you were always fun so it evens out."
Neron's head shot up as he heard Mia calling for him. "Are you here to fight?"
"Who? Me?" Loki looked offended. "Not at all! If I'd come to kill you I would have just gone after your guardian."
Neron's eyes narrowed. "Mia! I'm over here."
Mia turned her head to the sound of his voice. Running to the right now, she came up behind Loki. She froze. She was defenseless, half naked, and really close to the enemy. She swallowed hard. She was better off with Keith.
Neron nodded to her and patted his lap. "Loki, you've already met my guardian."
A hat appeared on Loki's head as he tipped it to her. "Last time we met you wearing more."
Neron rolled his eyes.
Mia pulled at the shirt, wishing she had worn more. She didn't move to Neron. Keith had warned her not to be too trusting with a warrior or his master, no matter how nice they were...unless it was himself of course. She looked behind her. "Keith!" she called hoping he would hear her. But no one responded. He was probably too far away...or didn't come at all.
"Uh...I'm right here," Neron said. Why was she calling for Keith?
Loki smirked. "Keith? Who's Keith? Is he hot?" He stopped as he heard people coming. "Oh, he's a guardian. Must be Sophitia's master. Lucky dog."
"I'm...not suppose to be too trusting..." Mia said and started backing up slowly. Why was Neron just sitting there? Was he asking to be killed?
Loki sniffed the air and smiled. "Ah, the fear of prey," he smirked as he looked at her.
The darkness beneath Loki shifted, and he looked down and frowned. "You're no fun."
The shadows around Neron shifted, sliding down around his throat even as the darkness began to spread up Loki. "Here I was enjoying a nice little chat and you have to turn it into this." He shook his head. "Pity. I was hoping to have some fun first."
"Mia, I want you to turn around and run back home, now."
"But....what about you?" she said slowly.
"I'll be fine," he assured her. The shadows tightened. "Run!"
Mia did as he said and turned around, running to home.
No sooner had she gotten out of sight before Loki's eyes glowed and the shadows twisted Neron's neck. The shadows beneath Loki sprang to life, his hell hounds jumping at Loki's throats.
Keith grabbed Mia as she ran. "Yo! What's going on?"
Mia hugged him. "Please, send Sophitia to help him. I'll do anything!"
"I'll hold you to that." Keith looked at Sophitia. "Go see what's going on."
Neron felt the bones in his neck break as the shadow hands gripped tighter. His blades popped out of his flesh as he cut the ties which bound them. Loki clawed through the shadow beasts and jumped back. As Neron lunged at him, Loki's formed changed into a beautiful English girl. "Come on, Hades. Try to kill me," she said whimsically.
Neron stopped, his blades skinning her flesh but not making any stabbing wounds. He didn't know who she was, but for some reason he couldn't move against her.
Mia's hands went to her throat. She grabbed Keith's gun. "We have to find the master now!"
Neron just stood there, even as Loki sliced through his neck and his chest. Though this was an immortal, an immortal which was trying to kill him, he knew this; and yet he couldn't fight against him. Not while he held this form. This girl, who made his very being shudder. He couldn't move or breathe. The later was caused by the blood which was bubbling in his throat.
Loki smirked. "You're making this too easy."
"Then let me cut in!" Sophitia's whip caught Loki's hand. Blades popped from it, and as she pulled it back the blades tore through flesh and bone, his hand falling on to the ground.
Loki grabbed his bleeding wrist and hissed at her. "That wasn't very nice. How would you like it if someone did that to you?" Shadows reached out and pulled at Sophitia, stabbing into her flesh like needles sewing through fabric.
In that instant of anger his form shifted back to its original state, and Neron was able to grasp what little control he had left. His blades slashed through Loki's chest, and the immortal demi-god hissed in pain.
In a blur of darkness and feathers, Loki took to the air in the form of a badly damaged raven. It squawked in anger as its blood dripped down on them. The shadowy blades disappeared into the darkness, dropping Sophitia to the ground.
Mia kept rubbing her neck, feeling Neron's pain. She scanned the forest. "Loki's master is cocky...and old. He won't be far, and he will be watching." She looked up at the trees. She saw something sparkle and knew it was the old man's cane. "He's in the trees, Keith."
Keith cocked back his gun and fired into the tree. The shiny object fell down, revealing to be the old man's cane. He continued shooting until the clip was gone. He then pushed another clip into the gun and cocked it back. Picking up the cane, he looked it over. "I know this cane it's-" Gas expelled from the bottom of the cane, engulfing Keith in the smoke. He fell to the ground, coughing as the old man's laughter filled the air.
"Really? You really thought I was able to climb into a tree. I'm flattered." The voice came from a small radio that was also up in the tree. "Loki is long gone and so am I. We'll be back though when the fights are more fair. Two on one, really? And after I made you tea."
"Coward! Must you always run away!" Mia screamed. Covering her mouth with the shirt, she kicked the cane from Keith and grabbed his arms. She started dragging him again. "It's ok, Keith," she said as she pulled him into her lap while she sat on the forest floor. "I've got you."
Keith coughed and shook. "Damn. That's the second time he's got me with that."
Neron looked at Sophitia who was trying to push her skin back on. He spit some blood out of his lips while trying to piece his throat back together. He tried to speak but every time he did he just gurgled up blood. Rolling his eyes, he nodded for them to go check on their guardians.
Mia looked up at the warriors and paled. They looked like hell. "What...happened?"
Sophitia looked beyond pissed. "Dumb ass over here was side tracked by his old loving master, Elyssa. He just stood there while Loki tore into him! If I hadn't shown up, he would be dead!"
Mia's heart stopped. "Elyssa..."
"Loki took the form of her and he just froze up while staring at him! Some warrior!" Sophitia groaned.
Mia helped Keith to his feet and she let him lean on her. She looked away from Neron, hurt that seeing Elyssa would so easily sway him from his duty...and from her. Could he so easily forget her? Of course...he didn't love her. His only obligation to her was one of master and warrior.
Neron held his throat as he looked at them. Elyssa? That was Elyssa. He shook his head. It couldn't be. He tried speaking, but more blood kept him from doing so. He looked at Mia who couldn't even look at him.
Keith groped a feel while Mia helped him walk. Smiling at the feeling. The warriors would survive. They hadn't won, but they hadn't lost either. So he considered it a good day.
Mia didn't bother to slap Keith's had away. It wouldn't have matter, he would have just ripped her shirt off if she did...and at the moment, she really didn't care. She was completely twisted and conflicted at the moment. When they got back to the house, she helped Keith to the couch and got him a glass of water. She then grabbed the first aid kit and bandages what Sophitia would let her. She then turned to Neron, not even looking him in the eyes as she started working on his throat and chest. Her shirt now covered in his and Sophitia's blood.
Neron looked at her and then to Sophitia. Why in the hell had Sophitia told her that? He didn't even know if it was true, but it wasn't like he could argue against it. He held his hand to his bandaged throat and reached out to take the bandages from Mia. He looked down at her legs and knelt before her so that he could doctor the small wounds. They weren't worth taking onto himself. They would heal on their own by tomorrow.
Mia pushed his hands away. "I can take care of myself," she said and grabbed the bandages she threw them on the table. "Shut up, Keith. I know you are going to say something, but just shut up. I'll clean it later."
"Huh? Oh yeah," Keith was flipping through the television, not even fazed by what had just happened.
Neron looked at Mia and proceeded to move back to their room so that he could wash off.
Mia went to the other side of the house, to the spare bathroom. She set her legs in the tub and ran the hot water over them, wincing at the feeling. The water washed over her cuts and she took her shirt off then her panties and started the shower. Standing in it, she let the water wash over her body, mixing with her tears. She had no idea why her heart hurt so much. She knew Neron had loved before and that he didn't love her, but the thought of him nearly dying at just the sight of Elyssa hurt more than she thought possible.
Neron held his chest as her pain washed over him. All of this for one of Loki's tricks. It barely seemed like the time to be worrying about something such as this. So what if Loki took on one of the forms of his previous masters? One of the many that he presumably loved. Shaking his head he wished that he could remember. He felt like the only one who didn't know an inside joke; and the joke was his life.
Mia got out of the shower and saw a fresh set of clothes waiting for her. She dried off and dressed in them. They had Sophitia's faint smell of perfume on them.
"How about nothing with alcohol in it," Mia said quickly. Glaring at Keith she pinched him. "I don't drink."
