Sophitia pushed open the door to Neron's bathroom. As he was stepping out, she crossed her arms. "I've decided to back off from Mia. Not because you want her, but because I think she has suffered enough for a lifetime. Even I didn't think you would actually hurt her, but you are doing so well with it." She turned away. "Why don't you just tell her the truth, Neron. You could never love her."

She left him there and walked back to Keith. Sitting next to him, she checked to make sure his breathing was ok.

What the hell? Neron grabbed some boxers and slipped them on before going out to the living room. Grabbing a piece of paper and a pen he furiously wrote on it. Guilt trip much?

"You deserve it," she said with a shrug.

"Deserve what?" Mia asked as she came out of the bathroom. The morning sun was rising and peeking into the windows.

"Much worse that what he got," Sophitia said.

Mia looked at Neron then Sophitia. "Am...I missing something?"

Neron furiously scratched on the piece of paper. She's being a bitch. He then proceeded to show it to Mia.

Mia crossed her arms. "Duh. That's Sophitia. What did you do to deserve it?"

Neron scribbled again. Apparently I deserve it for freezing up during the battle. He looked down at what he wrote and then looked at her. Even though I have no idea why I froze up.

Mia's eyes hardened. "Because you saw Elyssa, you dumb ass!"

That may or may not be the reason. How do we know? I don't even know what she looks like. She was pissed, but it wasn't as if he could do anything about.

"Yes you do! Why else would you have just sat there and done nothing!?" she yelled.

"You might not remember her, but I do. That was exactly what she looked like," Sophitia said.

Mia pointed to her. "There is your proof! In the middle of battle rather than doing your job, you froze up, risking your life. And for what!? A stupid immortal taking the form of your past lover!? She's dead, Neron! Dead! She's not coming back!" she screamed even louder.

You said that you shouldn't trust anyone easily. Well what about Sophitia? I'm not just going to take her word for it. She's still the enemy, and this wouldn't be the first time she's said something just to mess with my head. I could have frozen for any number of reasons. Loki is the master of chaos and tricks.

"And you are the master of heart break and lies!" she spat. "I trust her because I know that if she did anything to hurt me, Keith wouldn't take so kindly to it. Unlike you, he cares about me!" She glared at him, tears welling in her eyes.

What is that suppose to mean?

"It means that I mean very little to you for you to just throw your life away over some stupid memory. You knew exactly what I said before any of this start. I told you I didn't want to be with you because I knew that one day you and I would be forced to leave each other. And you said that we should like in the present, not the future and not the past." She wiped her eyes as the tears started to fall. "And yet...I seem to be the only one thinking about now. You are stuck in the past. With her...and she didn't even want you. I'm risking everything just to be with you...my heart...my soul...and you...you are still with her. Your heart still belongs to her even though you can't remember her face." She shook her head. "How can I compete with a dead girl?"

"Dead? Is that what they told you? My dear girl, Elyssa is very much alive." Loki leaned in the doorway, his wounds already healed.

Neron turned back to him, his blades shooting out from his arms.

"Oh, I'm not going to fight again. It's two on one. I just came by to cause a little mischief."

"Loki, unless you want to die, get out."

"Shut up!" Mia screamed. She looked at Loki as everyone got quiet. "She's...alive?"

Loki smirked. "Didn't they tell you? After champ here won the last tournament she chose immortality."

Neron's eyes widened as he heard this. She had chosen immortality? But Keith has said...

Mia glared at Keith, her hand going over her heart as she cried. "You...you lied to me..." she said through her teeth. "How could you?"

"I didn't lie per say," he told her. "She did wish to forget him. She just got immortality as well. It's complicated, but I didn't tell you because what good could come from that?"

"Where...is....she?" Neron was straining to talk. Every syllable hurt.

Loki smiled. "Here. There. Everywhere. Currently she's in the city. When she heard the games had begun she came back. You see, when she was given a choice about her wish, she knew that she couldn't keep Neron. She wanted to forget him, but she couldn't. So instead she wished for immortality, so that she could find him when he was reawakened."

"And that would be why I left that part out," Keith said softly.

Mia turned her back to them all. She knew she had to do the right thing and yet at the same time, she felt as if her heart was being ripped from her very being. The pain was worse than any she had ever felt and it took her breath away. She closed her eyes. "We have to find her...it's the right thing to do..." she said slowly.

Neron wrote it down once more. Where is she?

Loki chuckled. "That's up to you to find out. I've had my fun for tonight. Toodles!" With a wave, he twisted and turned into his raven form which took flight.

Mia grabbed Keith's car keys. "She knows the game...she's most likely looking for Neron...she's probably traced him to me. The best thing to do is go back to my apartment and wait for her."

"Whoa! It's been what...like four centuries since the last game. A lot can change in that time. She might be psycho and killing people for all you know."

Neron was already gone. He was grabbing new clothes. After pulling on a shirt and jacket, he grabbed the memo pad and wrote down a quick note. Let's go.

Mia couldn't help but feel her heart crushing under each step he took. She looked at Keith. "Will you come with me, not as helping hand...but as my friend?"

Keith sighed. "There's no telling how long it will take her to come to you, if she even does." Looking at her, he looked back at Neron and nodded. "Listen, stay at your apartment. If she contacts you, give me a call and I'll come."

Mia's lips pierced. "Fine. I'm taking your car," she said and walked out. Neron was right behind her. She didn't say two words to him on the drive there and she didn't bother to say anything to him when they got there. She didn't have anything to say. Elyssa and Neron belonged together. The only reason he was drawn to her was because of the bond they shared, but he truly loved Elyssa and she loved him. Mia was just back ground music.

Neron was pacing back and forth, unable to sit still. She was alive. This girl, whose life, whose face, whose love he couldn't remember, was hopefully coming to find him. He remembered her name; and he knew it hurt to think about her. Why? Just thinking about it made his head hurt. In fact, it made it hurt a lot. He held onto the counter to keep from falling to his knees. He didn't know what was going on. Why was it whenever he tried to remember it hurt?

Mia grabbed her head. "If you are going to stress, do it when I'm not your master. Sit down," she ordered. She was reading a book and trying to drown her feelings from her heart.

Neron looked at her and frowned even as his body did what was commanded of him. He slid out a chair and sat down. He rubbed his throat which was tickling. Evidently his vocal chords were healing. "I'm...sorry," he said in a raspy voice.

She looked at him, not bothering to hide her hurt. "Don't. Because I don't want to hear it. I was stupid. I'm learning from my mistakes. Just leave me alone," she said and turned back to her book.

He wasn't apologizing for that, but if that was what she wished he would let it be. He sat there, lost in his own thoughts. Hours passed and he didn't try to move once. Night turned into day and then day turned into dusk. Aside from slight movements to allow for using the restroom and the acquisition of drinks, neither of them said anything, and ate very little. Night fall came again, and while Neron was lost in his thoughts he nearly jumped out of his skin when there was a knock at the door.

Mia stood and grabbed her phone. She opened the door then sent a text to Keith. She looked at the young girl. There was no mistaking it. She was beautiful...she was flawless. Mia was no competition. "Elyssa?"

The girl smiled. "I was afraid that you might never return from Keith's house," she said in a soft tone. "I am glad to see that no one has taken your life yet."

Neron stood in the background holding his breath as he heard her voice. Was it really her?

"How do you know Keith?" Mia said with narrow eyes.

Elyssa smiled. "I was here thirty years ago when the immortals first awakened. I searched for Neron, but I could not find him. I looked for every guardian I could find, Keith was one of them."

Mia stepped aside. She glanced at Neron, her heart feeling completely empty. "I'll...leave you two to talk. I'm going down stairs to wait for Keith," she said and walked out as Elyssa walked in.

"It is alright, Mia," Elyssa told her as she took her hand. "You can stay if you wish."

Mia quickly took her hand. "I think you got the wrong message. I don't want to stay," she said and closed the door behind her.

Elyssa watched as she left. Shaking her head as the door shut. When her eyes fell upon Neron she smiled. "It's been a long time. Your name is Neron now, right?"

Neron nodded slowly. "You're...Elyssa?"

She nodded. "You don't remember me, do you?"

He shook his head. "No...I the gods they-"

She pressed a finger to his lips before kissing him. "It's okay. I know."

Keith pulled up a few minutes later. "She's here? I mean, she actually came?"

Mia sat at the bottom of the steps. She could feel the sense of shock and arousal and knew it was from Neron. Though she tried, she couldn't hold back silent tears. "Yeah...she's up there."

"Huh," Keith looked at her and then up to her door. "I'm sorry. I had hoped that she wouldn't come back for him, once I found out that you loved him I didn't have the heart to tell you."

Neron moved back from her, curious as to what kind of woman was this forward. "Tell me," he whispered. "Tell me about you and about...us."

Mia looked up at Keith. "I'm glad you care about me, Keith," she said. Reaching over, she grabbed his leg, crying into it silently. "I keep telling myself it's just the bond, it's the only reason I care for him. But it's not making me feel better."

He reached down and stroked her head. "It is just the bond," he told her. "But the gods picked you for him for a reason. It wasn't just a punishment. They pick a guardian who will suit their warrior. You suited him perfectly. You were made for him."

Elyssa motioned for him to sit down. "I was your master back in the sixteen hundreds. We were in England, and it took nearly a century for us to win. We suffered great tragedies, but we feel deeply in love in the process. When you won, you begged the gods for your reward, but Perses would not allow his greatest warrior to be freed."

She stroked his hand as he listened to this. His heart hurt and tightened in his chest. Why couldn't he remember any of this?

"I knew that the gods would not free you, so I asked for immortality so that I could wait for you to be awakened again."

Mia hated that answer. "I was made for him... That's a cheesy thing to say. And I don't buy it. Go feed it to one of your harlots," she said. She patted the spot next to her and he sat down. "Just hold me ok?" She moved her arms around him and buried her face in his chest.
