Chapter Four: The Arrival of the Storm
Part A: Boom
Prelude: The Remotest Rainfall
His tormented howls fill the air, and as if they were somehow a cue, the other prisoners begin to scream- their voices in turn bringing about a volley of horrific laughter. He shudders beneath the grasp of his tormentor, desperately praying for oblivion-but despite his terror, oblivion or anguish are completely beyond him, for he does not have the devastating understanding- the only thing that could bring them about. He sobs again, though this time his sobs are incomprehensible, and it probably has much to do with the fact that he no longer knows his name and can't remember anything different from the hell he's in now.
And suddenly, it all stops- all the pain and terror, and the tormentor is gone-he is completely alone and utterly terrified.
Intro: The First Strike of Lightning
Hikari ran blindly from the darkness like a terrified rabbit, without truly comprehending who or what he was running from, knowing only that if he didn't run away, it would find him.
He shivered at the thought but didn't stop running-the effect looked rather like a nervous full-body seizure-twitch with the entire episode occurring in an insane, terrified run-though to be honest, that was what it was.
He continued his blind run through the halls of his mind, calling forth various traps but never noticing the trap his pursuer set for him…

Seiji smiled to himself as he set about making coffee, knowing that Nasuti would bless him for it later. In about twenty minutes, he would hear the voice of his son begging them to allow him into their room. The smile widened as he thought of his wife and son, two things he'd never thought he would have.
He punched the little button on the coffee maker and psychically scanned the area for hostile beings.
Seiji frowned as he sensed the mass of energy, swirling around his house like some grotesque tornado, reaching a vortex within Hikari's room. The energy was gray to pitch black, and comparing it to a tornado wasn't a bad comparison at all.
Either Hikari was working serious black magic, or some dark being had entered his dwelling without invitation.
Seiji didn't like either thought.
The energy changed its manifestation, choosing to slink along the ground like black lava, with occasional "air bubbles" exploding, sending the energy spattering onto the walls. Seiji gritted his teeth and prayed fervently that the energy's source wasn't after Hikari.
[7:50 AM]
Seiji ignored Korin's warnings and prayed that he was right while simultaneously tapping into the energy within, feeling it thunder into his fingers and cause the pain behind his eyes.
He raced down the hallway, stepping in the blackness, sending energy onto the walls where it would ooze down in tiny rivers from the splatter marks.
The energy had almost taken over the house by the time he reached Hikari's bedroom door: Blackness covered the walls and ceiling and floor, and the even the carpeting was horrible to touch. And it was physical: the black slime was almost like watered-down tar, or maybe very viscous gasoline. He slipped in it, flailing for balance and praying for strength. The slime splattered.
Seiji managed to open the door and gasped at the sight that greeted him. The breath spilled from his lungs and he felt his knees grow weak while he searched within himself for the proper spell.
Completely oblivious to Seiji's presence, a veritable army of imps, small demons, obviously living *Can-tahs, *Can-taks and even the tiny *Tak-taks writhed and marched towards Hikari's bed- and all were made of the slime.
Hikari himself was writhing and moving, whimpering against some unseen foe and fleeing within his dreams.
Seiji felt his heart shatter when he realized that there was no spell to save his son that would not harm him. Hikari would have to finish the battle within his mind and then fight the battle in his room.
And Seiji would be forced to watch. Even Korin would be useless- it would destroy everything in the room, and Seiji's spells would do little against the army of slime.
He sent a sweeping light attack at the foremost creatures and tried to prevent the ooze from creating more, but he was only buying time and he knew it.
[8:03AM]
The burst of energy destroyed a blob of slime, and another rendered a hideous imp into pliable energy, which he could use to create an army of fairies, Faeroes, and light-imps, not to mention call forth a few real Tak-taks. They'd still be four inches long and look like leg-less land crustaceans that rolled with insane speed, but at least they wouldn't attack Hikari.
A Tak-tak crawled onto his shoe and began to try to burrow in with its claws. His eyes widened in pain and he destroyed it, then used the energy to construct another Tak-tak. The new Tak-tak immediately began to attack and eat the dark ones, but Seiji sensed that his advantage wouldn't last for long. He would run out of energy sometime, and Korin was not an option.
=====
HAH! YAY! Okay, now I need to plan B, but I can do that later. As for the asterisks:
Living Can-tahs: stolen from Steven King's Desperation, a Can-tah means 'little god' and is a totem. My favorite (although they're evil) is the hungry wolf statue with a snake for a tongue that really screws with Steve's and Cynthia's head. A living Can-tah is what it says- the stone is animate.
Can-taks: 'big gods' they are bigger and more powerful Can-tahs. They are also from Desperation. And they too are stone totems that move, though they (like the -tahs) were inanimate in Desperation.
Tak-taks: One to four inch long leg-less land crustaceans. I stole them off the net; you can find them at http://www.kekkai.org/holychao/wmfl-flamewar.txt.
Anyway, I am assuming that they attack by burrowing in with their claws (rather like cocitas, those miniature-conch-like shells that burrow into sand) and then biting the crap out of you.
This is, obviously, a video game monster. Sometimes Tak-taks and Xenomorphs team up, and an imp-like Xenomorph will fling the Tak-taks at you, doing one HP of damage, while it only takes one hit to kill a Tak-tak because they only have 1 HP.
You get the point.
