Chapter 7

D and Leon continued to watch their daughter sleep for some hours never really paying attention to the time but thinking about the events that had happened that day. Leon's thoughts lied along the lines of his only daughter and how she was going to make it through the rest of the school year and dealing with the other children. D on the other hand was just worried for his little swan's well-being. D knew very well that the humans could be violent at times but he never thought children could act as adults did whether it be out of pure anger or something else the thought never occurred to him that children would be just as violent as their older counterparts. "but I suppose they are only acting according to their nature." D said quietly and looked down at his sleeping daughter.

"You say something D?" Leon asked looking at D as D looked back at Leon. "No nothing." D said and went back to watching Leonona sleep. "It's alright to cry you know that D I can tell you want to." Leon said gently rubbing D's back and holding him close to him. "Oh Leon." D said and buried his head in Leon's shirt and cried.

"I know D I know." Leon said softly and petted D's hair and let a few tears fall from his eyes as he comforted D. D's crying had calmed down some time later and had turned to sobs he still had his head on Leon's shirt and Leon had stopped petting his hair not to long ago, now D just sat trembling in Leon's arms as he let his emotions take hold of his body something he hadn't done in a long while. Out of all the years in which he could have let his emotions get the better of him this was the one event in which he allowed it, of course D had never had a child before and feels bonded to his daughter just as parents would their children and vice-versa. D knew very well that he was a god and gods seldom cried if at all but this was the one time in which he would allow it.

"Gods what I wouldn't give to do to that kid what I'm about to do." Leon said growling. Seeing Leonona like he did scared the shit out of him and his first reaction would have been to knock some sense into the kid that hurt his Leonona, but she came first she was his little girl, his life, his reason to live and to keep living. When Leon had found out about D being pregnant he was in a state of denial at first but then came to the realization that the child that grew inside his lover was his and that it needed his protection. Upon realizing that Leon suddenly felt like a ton of bricks had been dumped on him here was this little girl, his little girl the one he was suppose to protect, to make sure she has a safe place to grow up in and parents that love her, but he realized that to his horror that things sometimes don't work out that way. Things sure as heck didn't work out that way that day, his little girl had been in a fight and she didn't even bother to fight back she just took the beating she was giving, heck if Leon was there lord knows what he might have done. Leon let go of D and walked over to Leonona who was still in a deep sleep bent down and kissed her on her forehead.

"You're a lot braver than I gave you credit for squirt, I know if it had been me out there I would be fighting back, but you did the right thing not fighting back and standing up to that kid I'm proud of you my baby girl I hope you always stay like you are now kind and gentle. I'll always be proud of you and don't let no one tell you otherwise. Your mother and I are both proud of you we'll get though this together baby girl all of us and your parents will always be here for you if you need us." Leon said as tears fell from his eyes and he kissed his daughter one last time and looked at his one example of true courage and could have sworn he saw tears fall from Leonona's eyes.

"Sleep well squirt." Leon said and went back to D and got comfortable as D leaned back against him and he and Leon fell asleep in each others arms but not before saying a final good night to their only daughter and drifting off into dreams of their own.

Morning came and found D and Leon still sleeping in each others arms. Leonona had just began to stir from the rays of sunlight in her room and opened her eyes and sat up in bed. She yawned cutely and rub her eyes with her fist and looked over at her mother and father sleeping in each others arms. They stayed here the whole night? Leonona thought to herself and yawned again and layed back down in bed and pulled the sheets over her head. "Leonona sweetie time to wake up." D said taking the sheets off Leonona.

"Mommy do I have to go back to school?" Leonona asked sitting up in bed. "No sweetheart you won't be going back to school until this whole little thing with your school is over with. Come on now time for your bath." D said picking Leonona up gently and carrying her into the bathroom where Leon was brushing his teeth. "Morning daddy." Leonona said as D set her on the counter and went to go run her bath.

Leon ruffled Leonona's hair and she made a happy hmm noise as Leon continued to brush his teeth. "Daddy?" Leonona asked looking up at her father. To Leonona the only two people that were most important to her were her parents they have given her a life that only others would dream of having. Kind and trusting parents, parents that loved each other and got along well. So Leon and D were a little rough around the edges when they argued but Leon always managed to make D forgive him with some sweet treat and his kind words. To Leonona her parents were the exact words of paradise.

"Hmm?" Leon said looking down at his daughter. "Can I go to your work with you?" Leonona asked. "I don't know squirt it's kind of dangerous if one of the people sees me with you they'll try to use you against me." Leon said rinsing his mouth out with some water. "Can I stay at daddy's work then?" Leonona asked. "I don't see why not Jill could watch you I'll take you next week." Leon said. "Yay I get to go with daddy to work." Leonona said happily throwing her arms up in the air.

"Now, now don't get to excited sweetie." D said undressing Leonona and placing her in the tub. "Why?" Leonona asked. "Because daddy usually does nothing while he's at work." D said in a teasing manner. Leon knew D was only teasing him but had to come back with a joke of his own. Hopefully he wouldn't get his lover upset.

"Uh-huh so I suppose taking care of a bunch of animals is more time-consuming than chasing down a bunch of bad guys right?" Leon asked. "Quite time-consuming I assure you." D said taking Leonona out of the water and wrapping her in a towel. "You weren't suppose to agree with me." Leon said. "I win once again detective." D said smiling at Leon. "Don't start that again." Leon said. "I'm sorry it's just such a hard habit to drop." D said walking into Leonona's room and got her dressed. Once Leonona was dressed the three went downstairs and ate breakfast and sat down on the couch for a while. Well D and Leon sat on the couch Leonona was on the floor playing with Pon-chan and T-chan. "Are you sure it's safe to let her play with the goat?" Leon asked.

"Don't worry my animals are quite fond of Leonona." D said hearing the doorbell ring. "Doorbell." Leonona said getting up and running to the wall and looking at the door saw Victoria talking to Jill. "So are you going to let me in or not?" Jill asked. Jill was wearing a dark blue sleeveless tank top with beaded flowers on the front, she also wore a black ankle length skirt that seemed to flow around her when she walked.

"Come here squirt." Leon said picking Leonona up at Jill walked into the house. "Ah Miss. Jill it's nice of to come by and visit." D said politely and smiled at Jill. "Hello Count it nice to see you to where's Leon?" Jill asked as Leon walked into the room with Leonona sitting on his right shoulder. "Off work today?" Leon asked.

"Of course and I figured I would come by here and visit, who's this?" Jill asked pointing to Leonona. "You don't remember me you said I was a cutie." Leonona said laying her head on her father's head. "Leon last time I checked Leonona was still a baby so how did she?" Jill asked. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you because I didn't at first." Leon said. "You like bunnies?" Jill asked pulling out a stuffed bunny from a bag she was carrying and gave it to Leonona. "Mine." Leonona said cutely and cuddled the bunny in her arms. "Leon she's adorable. Can I hold her?" Jill asked holding out her arms. "Here go with Jill for a while." Leon said taking Leonona off his shoulder.

Leonona pouted at being removed from her father's shoulder but became happy again when Jill held her in her arms. "You're just about the cutest child I've ever seen you know that?" Jill asked. "Really?" Leonona asked. "Yes." Jill said putting Leonona down as she ran back to Leon and Leon picked her up and set her back on his shoulder.

"Brother the tea is ready." Nyu said walking out of the living room. "oh good Miss. Jill would you like to join us?" D asked. "I'd love to." Jill said walking into the living room with Leon and the others and sitting down beside D began drinking her tea.

"So D's who's this your twin?" Jill asked nodding towards Nyu. "Far from it actually Nyu is my younger sister our physical looks run in the family." D said sipping his tea and munching on a strawberry tart that Jill had bought for D. "No kidding shouldn't she be in school?" Jill asked indicating Leonona who was sitting on the floor playing with her bunny. "There was a little incident at Leonona's school yesterday and we won't be sending her back until next week." D said. "She get into a fight with someone?" Jill asked. "The other way around." Leon said.

While the others were talking Leonona just happened to look out the window and see a pair of silver wings fly past the window. Leonona being a child was frightened at first and got up and walked over to D and tugged on his cheongsam. "What's the matter sweetie?" D asked looking towards the window where Leonona was pointing and saw the silver winged bird looking at them. "Sliver wing!" Victoria said and ran to the front door and brought the bird back inside. "Victoria what happened to him?" D asked.

"I don't know his wings are covered in blood, I'll take him to my room and look at him there." Victoria said carrying the bird upstairs to her room D following close behind. "Another one of D's pets?" Jill asked. "'ep." Leonona said and went back to playing with her bunny. "Leon your very lucky to have such a cute child." Jill said smiling at Leonona. "I agree." Nyu said and the three continued talking until D and Victoria came back downstairs. "Is Silver Wing okay?" Nyu asked.

D looked at his sister with sadness showing in them. "I'm afraid he won't live past tomorrow morning. He is badly injured and hurt himself trying to find his way back myself and Victoria." D said sadly. Leonona of course had no idea who Silver wing was but some how knew he must have been important to her mother to make him as sad as he was. Leonona got up from her spot on the floor and walked over to D and once again tugged on his cheongsam. D bent down to his daughter trying to look happy for fear that he might scare her. "Here." Leonona said handing her bunny to D.

D smiled at his daughter and took the bunny and hugged her close to him. Leonona was surprised at first because her mother's hugs were usually warmer than what they were now. Leonona realized that her mother was sad and that might have been affecting it. "Mama what's wrong, why is there water coming from your eyes?" Leonona asked feeling D's tears drop on her cheek. "I'm sorry sweetie I'm just sad very sad." D said as Leon came up behind D and D let go of Leonona as Leon took D into his arms.

"Why is mama sad?" Leonona asked walking up to her parents and touching D's cheek. "Because Silver Wing was special to me and he won't live for much longer." D said. "Won't live?" Leonona asked. "What that means squirt is that he'll close his eyes and never open them again." Leon said holding on tighter to D who continued to cry.

I have to make mommy happy again it hurts to see mommy in pain but what can I do? Leonona thought to herself. Realizing that was nothing she could do she only stood and watched her mother cry in her father's arms.

D continued to cry for some time until he felt Leonona crawl into his lap and wrap her arms around his neck. "Leonona?" D asked looking at his daughter. "If 'ou are sad 'en I be sad to we can be sad together." Leonona said wiping away a tear from D's cheek with her finger and layed her head on D's chest. Leonona didn't know why she was doing what she was doing but she thought if she was sad with her parents maybe it would make them feel better about D's pet dying. D looked down at his daughter and wrapped his arms around her and smiled. My little Leonona you are such a sweet and caring child I'm very glad you came into my life it was worth all the pain I went though to have you, please don't ever change the way you are. My little Swan please continue to bring happiness into this hurting heart of mine I love always and forever. D thought hugging his daughter.
