Chapter 6

"Leon, Leon you awake?" Nyu asked shaking Leon's shoulder who only shrugged her hand off and rolled over and continued to snore. The sun had just come up not to long ago and Nyu was trying to wake up the small family sleeping in D's bed

Let me try. Aniou said jumping on the bed and walking up behind Leon pushed her head against Leon's back and pushed him off the bed. "Ow, alright who's the wise guy?" Leon asked rubbing the back of his head and looking up at his spot where Aniou was currently laying on her belly looking down at him. "How about a gentler wake up call next time." Leon said looking at Aniou. Aniou just stared at Leon for a while longer before getting up and going over to Leonona gently nudged the small child awake.

Time to wake up Child of Darkness. Aniou said as Leonona sat up and yawned cutely and rubbed her eyes with her hands. Good morning Child of Darkness. White Fang said and jumped up on the bed and sat beside Aniou. "Hmm, White Fang." Leonona said excitedly and hugged White Fang and then hugged Aniou as D opened his eyes.

"Goodness what's all the noise about?" D asked. "Morning mommy, where's daddy?" Leonona asked looking around the room for Leon. "Down here Leonona." Leon said as Leonona crawled over to the edge of the bed and looked down at her father. "How'd you get down there daddy?" Leonona asked looking at her father.

"Your wolf friend decided to wake me up. Hey D what time is it?" Leon asked. "5:30 in the morning Leon. Thank you for waking us up you three." D said getting up out of the bed. "Where in the heck you get three from?" Leon asked standing up. "My sister of course. Come on Leonona time for a bath then you can have breakfast." D said picking up Leonona from her spot on the edge of the bed. "Does your mouth still hurt sweetie?" D asked as Leonona cuddled into his Kimono and nodded her head. "Hey D let me take her you go get breakfast ready." Leon said. "No I got it. Nyu do you think you can make something to make Leonona's mouth feel better?" D asked stroking his daughter's hair. "I can try." Nyu said walking up to D. "Thank you Auntie Nyu." Leonona said quietly. "Leon I do not think it would be wise to send Leonona to school today." D said looking down at Leonona who had tears coming from her eyes.

"Here let me have her." Leon said taking Leonona from D's arms and holding her in his own. "Leonona do you want to go to school today, it's up to you." Leon said kissing Leonona's forehead as she cried softly. Leonona nodded her head gently and looked up at Leon and reached up towards his face. "What you want a ride on my shoulders?" Leon asked. "Uh-huh." Leonona said. "Alright anything to make my little girl feel better." Leon said and put Leonona on his shoulders and walked out of the room with D and into the bathroom where D was already getting Leonona's bath ready. Leon took Leonona off his shoulder and set her on the counter and started to brush his teeth.

While Leon was brushing his teeth he noticed Leonona reaching over for her duck toy. Leon picked the duck up and gave it to his daughter. "Here you go squirt." Leon said. "Thank you daddy." Leonona said before she started to chew on it. "Leonona open your mouth for a minute." Leon said as Leonona opened her mouth and he looked inside.

"Looks like you got some more teeth growing in." Leon said. "It hurts." Leonona said and pouted. "Yeah I know it's going to for a while no chewing on the other kids at school okay." Leon said ruffling Leonona hair. "Okay daddy." Leonona said and went back to chewing on her duck toy. "I think you two have been conversing long enough time for your bath Leonona." D said undressing Leonona and placing her in the tub.

"Leon could you call the dentist and see if she has any openings in her schedule?" D asked. "For who?" Leon asked. "Why for Leonona of course." D said running a damp cloth over Leonona's face. "I really don't think she needs to see the dentist she's just got a few more teeth growing in that's all that is." Leon said. "Oh?" D asked picking up Leonona and wrapping her in a towel. "Yeah here I'll show you." Leon said walking over to D and Leonona and taking Leonona from D set her down on the counter and watched her chew on her duck toy for a while. "Can I have that for a minute I want mommy to take a look at your mouth." Leon said. "Mine." Leonona said cutely and biting on the duck. "Open." Leon said as Leonona opened her mouth.

"See she's got them growing in the back." Leon said gently touching Leonona's back teeth. "Even if her back teeth are growing in I still want to check to see if they are growing in properly." D said picking Leonona up and taking her into her room let her pick out what she would wear for the day. "That one." Leonona said pointing to her Violet Cheongsam with the white swan on it. "you like that one don't you?" Leon asked.

"It's my favorite one." Leonona said as D help her dress and put on her slippers. "Don't you think it's time we get her some shoes D?" Leon asked. "Don't worry my dear Leon I had her slippers made especially for all the running around and playing she does at school. " D said slipping a head band in Leonona's hair. "There now your hair won't be in your face when you play." D said as Leonona looked at herself in the mirror. "How do I look daddy?" Leonona asked timidly. "Turn around towards me." Leon said as Leonona turned around and faced him. "You look like a princess." Leon said kissing his daughter on the forehead. "Thank you daddy." Leonona said hugging her father. "Breakfast is ready." Nyu called from downstairs. "Come on let's go eat." Leon said walking out of Leonona's room with his lover and his daughter. "Hi Auntie Vicky." Leonona said cutely as she climbed in Victoria's lap. "Auntie?" Leonona asked waving her hand in front of Victoria's eyes. "Hmm, oh Leonona when did you come down?" Victoria asked smiling at Leonona. "Were you talking to the wolves again?" D asked sitting down.

"Yes a wolf mother is going to have her cubs soon and I had to check to see how she's doing in her den." Victoria said. "Here you Leonona a strawberry and banana milkshake." Nyu said. "Thank you." Leonona said and started drinking her milkshake. "Leon should you not be going to work now?" D asked sipping his tea. "Not till nine D." Leon said. "Oh." D said eating a strawberry tart. "So your taking Aniou to school today Leonona?" Nyu asked. "Yep." Leonona said. "Mmm." D moaned painfully and stood up.

"D?" Leon asked going over to D and hugging him. "Leon I don't feel good." D said and moaned in pain and cried out softly. "D come on darling sit back down for a bit." Leon said helping D sit down. "Mmm." D said softly and brought a hand to his belly. "Brother." Nyu said and ran to D. "Victoria take Leonona upstairs." Leon said.

"Alright come on Leonona." Victoria said taking Leonona upstairs to her room. "D hey what the hell is up with you?" Leon asked. "Mm language Leon uhh and I don't know what's wrong with me." D said painfully holding his stomach as Q-chan flew in the room. "Q-chan." D said reaching out for the little rabbit-bat. Q-chan flew over to D and landed on the table. "Uhh, Leon could you get me some water?" D asked looking up at Leon his bi-colored eyes showing pain beyond anything Leon could comprehend.

Leon went over to the sink and got D some water and pressed it up against his lips. D drank the water and seemed to calm down some after his drink but not by much. By the time D's pain had subsided Victoria and Leonona wee downstairs helping D get back on his feet so to speak. "Mommy are you okay?" Leonona asked putting a damp cloth on D's forehead. Victoria and Nyu had moved D to the couch not to long ago and D was currently laying on the couch with his hand on his head. "I'm fine now baby girl I just had a really bad tummy ache Q-chan where have you been?" D asked as the rabbi-bat landed on his belly. "Kee, kee, kee." Q-chan said flapping his wings.

"That wasn't nice to worry mommy like that Q-chan." Leonona said. "Mm what time is it, come on sweetie we better get you to school I would not want you to be late." D said sitting up and getting up off of the couch. "Alright squirt time to leave." Leon said handing Leonona her backpack. "Okay, come on Aniou time to leave." Leonona said as Aniou walked into the room and stood in front of Leonona. "Ready to go?" Leonona asked. Yes, I would like to see this school that you go to. Climb on Leonona. Aniou said. "Alright." Leonona said and climbed on Aniou's back and the four left Victoria's house to take Leonona to school. "Are you sure you feel alright D you really should be at Victoria's house resting." Leon said. "I'm quite fine Leon." D said.

"As long as your okay. Hey isn't that the petshop?" Leon asked looking over at a small building. "Well I see the petshop is not that far from Leonona's school once we move back in we'll start leaving at a later time I suppose. Now Leonona you be a good girl today." D said bending down to Leonona and kissing her on the forehead.

"You are not coming inside with me?" Leonona asked. "Not today little one I'm not really all that well today and I do not want to worry your father so go on now and be good. Aniou please take good care of her." D said getting up and falling against Leon.

"Easy D come on let's get you home you need to rest." Leon said pulling D close to him. "Yes let's go home." D said as he and Leon walked from the school. "Bye, bye." Leonona said. Child your hand. Aniou said as green vines snaked around Leonona's hand. "Hmm, sorry Aniou that happens when I'm really sad." Leonona said and took a deep breath and the vines retracted. "Come on let's go inside." Leonona said going inside with Aniou. Once the two walked inside they were surprised to see the school filled with children and their animals. Most of these animals I could have for my next meal. Aniou said walking beside Leonona. "That's not very nice." Leonona said.

It is my nature Child of Darkness. Aniou said. "Can the other kids hear you?" Leonona asked. Only you your mother, father, and my daughter can hear me. Aniou said. "That's good." "Leonona." Arlene called running up to her friend. "Hi Arlene, who's this?" Leonona asked pointing to the bird on Arlene's shoulder. "This is rainbow she's a Scarlet Macaw, say hi." Arlene said. "Hi." Rainbow said. "It's nice to meet you." Leonona said. "Oh Arlene there you are, hello Leonona." Arlene's mother said. "Good morning ma'm." Leonona said and bowed. "Your such a nice girl, where are your parents?" Arlene's mother asked. "Mommy wasn't feeling well so I walked in alone today." Leonona said. "Who's this?" Arlene asked looking at Aniou.

"This is Aniou she belongs to my Auntie but she let me bring her to school today." Leonona said petting Aniou's head. "Does she bite?" Arlene's father asked. "Not unless someone in my family tells her to." Leonona said scratching Aniou behind the ears. "Well you can walk with us to your class if you and Aniou want to." Arlene's father said. "Yeah come on Leonona let's go." Arlene said. "Ok." Leonona said as she and Aniou walked down the hall with Arlene's mother and father until they got to the girls room. "Arlene you be good today." Arlene's mother said kissing her daughter.

"I will mommy bye daddy." Arlene said. "Bye sweetheart have a nice day." Arlene's father said and left with Arlene's mother as the two girls went inside. "Good morning Mr. Diamond." Leonona said. "Ah good morning you two are these your pets?" Mr. Diamond asked. "Yep this is Aniou." Leonona said. "And you brought your parrot Arlene?" Mr. Diamond asked as a black cat jumped up on his shoulder.

"Yep." Arlene said. "What's your cat's name?" Leonona asked. "This is Meridian." Mr. Diamond said as Meridian hissed at Aniou. "She must not like wolves very much." Leonona said. I'm to fond of that thing either. Aniou said. "I guess she doesn't like wolves she doesn't like other dogs either." Mr. Diamond said.

"Does she like Parrots?" Arlene asked. "Don't worry she doesn't eat birds." Mr. Diamond said petting the black cat who was still hissing at Aniou who only swished her tail angrily. "Well now are you two ready to talk about your pets today?" Mr. Diamond asked. "Yep." Both girls said together. "Very well why don't you two go ahead and sit down on the carpet over there." Mr. Diamond said pointing to a carpet where the other children were sitting. Meridian hissed once more at Aniou and Aniou barked back at Meridian. "Hey now be nice Aniou." Leonona said. "It's alright Allison about time something decided to stand up to her." Mr. Diamond said as Meridian jumped off his shoulder and curled up on his desk. "Come on Aniou." Leonona said as the two walked over to the carpet and sat next to Arlene and Rainbow.

"What was that about?" Arlene asked. "Aniou put Meridian in her place." Leonona said. I long to devour that thing. Aniou said. "You can't eat other people's pets Aniou just ignore her for now. Come on lay down." Leonona said as Aniou layed down on her belly. "Class today we will take a break from our normal lessons and talk about the pets we brought in today. Is there anyone that would like to go first?" Mr. Diamond asked. "I'll go first." Leonona said raising her hand.

"Alright then come on up Leonona and bring your pet with you." Mr. Diamond said. "Come on Aniou." Leonona said and got up and walked to the front of the class with Aniou and stood in front of Mr. Diamond's desk where Meridian was sitting. "As you guys pretty much know I'm Leonona and this is Aniou. Aniou belongs to my Aunt Vicky but she let me have her for the day, she is a gray wolf although she doesn't look it but they do come in white she is only one of the few that are born white. We like to play together a lot and she's just fun to have around." Leonona said petting Aniou.

"Very nice Allison are there any questions?" Mr. Diamond asked. "Is it true that wolfs howl at the moon?" Andy asked. "They howl but not at the moon they howl to say a hunt is going to be soon or to communicate with each other, and to tell other packs that they are near." Leonona said. "So why is she growling like that?" Arlene asked.

"Because she doesn't like Mr. Diamond's cat." Leonona said. Correction I loathe that that thing. Aniou said. "Can we hear Aniou howl?" a girl asked. "I think that would be over doing it a bit." Mr. Diamond said as Meridian started to hiss again. "Meridian doesn't like Aniou as you can see." Leonona said as Meridian continued to hiss. Go hiss at something else or you shall be my next meal. Aniou said and barked at Meridian as the black cat ran off and into her carrier. "Hey tell me someone got that that was funny." a boy with long black hair said. "Well that was interesting thank you Allison are there anymore questions?" Mr. Diamond asked. "Well then thank you Allison." Mr. Diamond said.

"Your welcome." Leonona said and walked back with Aniou to her spot on the carpet. "Now is there anyone else that would like to come up and show us your pet?" Mr. Diamond asked. After everyone had shown their pets the children just sat around and either played with each others pets or found something else to do. Leonona was one of the few that chose to just sit in her spot beside Aniou and watch the other kids play.

Why do you not play with the other children Child of Darkness? Aniou asked. Leonona gently stroked Aniou's head and continued to watch the children play perfectly content to just sit where she was. What was going through Leonona's head no one knew but she seemed to just be absorbed in her own little world all by her lonesome. Being the daughter of a Kami that used to not be fond of humans and a human father who was a cop growing up feeling different than all the other kids was a mystery to the girl that sat by herself the only company she had was Aniou who sat with her never leaving her side until the child told her to leave. Aniou on the other hand was deeply worried for Leonona it would be hard for her to admit it but the child sort of grew on her.

Leonona was like a second daughter to Aniou and would give her life for the small child just as she did Victoria. Aniou and White Fang were immortals like D and Victoria so Aniou knew very well that she could always keep watch over the child while she went through her stages of life. Although no one knew of it Aniou swore to protect Leonona from the moment she was born. As far as Aniou was concerned when Leonona's parents weren't around she was to be the guardian of the small child and took that job very seriously carefully guiding the child down the path to adulthood.

"Aniou why don't you go play with the other dogs?" Leonona said stroking Aniou's head. Are you sure I don't like to leave you alone your mother told me to take good care of you. Aniou said. "Don't worry I'll be fine go on go play with the others." Leonona said as Aniou got up and went to play with the other dogs. Leonona. a small voice said. "Huh who is calling me?" Leonona asked closing her eyes. I am. the voice said appearing in front of Leonona. "Why do you look like me?" Leonona asked.

That's because I am you your darkness so to speak the one that will guide you through life. the voice said holding out her hand. "What's your name?" Leonona asked looking sideways at the mirror girl in front of her. I am called Prisma and you Leonona are my light. Prisma said floating up into the darkness. "Hey where you going?" Leonona asked reaching up for the small girl that so much resembled her.

Do not worry I will be back whenever you feel sad or alone I will always be here to cher you up and make you happy. Prisma said and disappeared into the darkness. "Leonona?" Arlene asked waving her hand in front of Leonona's face. "Huh?" Leonona asked. "You okay you were staring into space." Arlene said. "I'm fine." Leonona said smiling at her friend. "Okay come on it's time for recess." Arlene said. "Yay Aniou and I can go play." Leonona said getting up and following the rest of the students outside. "Aniou!" Leonona called as Aniou ran up to her. "Let's go play." Leonona said running with Aniou chasing her around the playground. "Ha-ha Aniou this so fun." Leonona said running beside Aniou. The two soon stopped to rest for a while and just stood listening to the wind. Come on let's go to the swings. Aniou said. "Okay let's go." Leonona said running with Aniou towards the swings. The two weren't that far from the swings when someone pushed Leonona to the ground. Child of Darkness I'm coming. Aniou said running towards Leonona. "Ow what did you do that for?" Leonona asked.

"Hmm your new around here aren't you I'm from another class and everyone has to do what I say or they get hurt." an older boy said. "I don't listen to anyone but my parents." Leonona said as the boy grabbed her and held her above the ground. "Let me go. Aniou help me!" Leonona yelled. "Too bad for you your dog can't help you." The boy said throwing Leonona to the ground. "Aniou!" Leonona yelled looking at the white wolf who was cornered by a few other older boys. "To bad for you." the boy said backhanding Leonona. "Ahh!" Leonona said falling back against the ground as the other children started gathering around. "Hey stop it right now!" Mr. Diamond yelled pulling the boy away from Leonona. Child! Aniou said running up to Leonona. "Aniou I'm glad your okay I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." Leonona said hugging Aniou.

It is my own fault for not looking after you child. Aniou said sliding out of Leonona's embrace and letting her climb onto her back as Leon and D walked onto the playground took one look at Leonona and ran to her and Aniou. "Leonona! What happened?" Leon asked picking Leonona up from Aniou's back.

"Mr. Orcot." Mr. Diamond said. "What happened to Leonona?" Leon asked stroking Leonona's hair as she cried against him. "One of the older children started to pick a fight with her I managed to stop the fight before it got to bad." Mr. Diamond said.

"Leonona my gods what happened?" D asked trying to take Leonona who only clung to her father tighter. Leon put a hand on D's shoulder and shook his head no. "Hey shhhh it's okay Leonona we're here now calm down squirt." Leon said.

"Where's the kid that did this to her?" Leon asked. "Back with his teacher and the principals." Mr. Diamond said. I am sorry I did not protect her as I was supposed to. Aniou said. "It's okay Aniou I'm pretty sure you tried to protect Leonona to the best of your abilities." D said. "I'm sorry this happened Mr. Orcot." Mr. Diamond said. "As long as Leonona is safe you have nothing to be sorry about come on D let's get home." Leon said and he and D left with Aniou and Leonona still sobbing in Leon's arms.

The walk to Victoria's house was a quiet one with the exception of Leonona's cries every now and then. Blood stained parts of her clothes where the boy had injured her and a small bruise was forming where she had been slapped also a bruise was forming around her neck where the boy had grabbed her by the collar of her cheongsam.

Leonona just clung to her father tightly as she continued to cry tears falling from her eyes her black and blond hair covering her face and hiding the pain in her eyes. Leon just continued to soothe the small child rubbing her back and whispering words like everything's okay now or you're safe now as Leonona continued to cry and bury her head into her father's shirt. "It's okay squirt." Leon said at a loss for words to comfort the crying child in his arms. D only looked at Leon who was holding onto Leonona as if she was his only thing in life. D too had been hit hard by what happened to his little girl that he gave birth to not but just a week ago. It was bad enough that he had not been well the whole day and his heart felt heavy in his chest, but when he saw his little girl clinging to her father in a way she never had before his heart shattered into many pieces.

As he continued to watch Leonona cling to her father tears began to well up in his eyes and he quickly blinked them away not wanting to worry Leon. Once the four had reached the front door and walked inside they were met by Nyu who had just come downstairs and saw Leonona crying in Leon's arms. "My god what happened?" Nyu asked running up to Leon. "Some kid decided to pick a fight with Leonona here and hurt her pretty badly." Leon said walking over to the couch and sitting down with Leonona in his arms turned on the TV. "Daddy?" Leonona asked hiccupping. "D could you get Leonona some water?" Leon asked watching D go into the kitchen and come back with water for Leonona. "Here squirt drink this." Leon said pressing the glass against Leonona's lips and let her drink little by little until the water was gone.

"You okay now?" Leon asked as D sat down beside him. "Uh-huh daddy my ankle hurts." Leonona said timidly. "Here sit on mommy's lap for a while and I'll go get an ice pack." Leon said. "No wanna 'tay wif 'ou" Leonona said. "Alright come on." Leon said taking Leonona into the kitchen and setting her on a chair went to the freezer and pulled out an ice pack and went back over to Leonona and placed it on her ankle.

"That feel better?" Leon asked. "A little." Leonona said looking down at the floor. Leon only looked at his daughter in wonder about what she was thinking about while staring at the floor. "Daddy it hurts right here." Leonona said putting her hand on her chest. "Does your heart hurt?" Leon asked as Leonona looked up at him a mixture of fear sadness and pain showing in her eyes. "Yes." Leonona said turning her head and started to cry again. "Mine does to Leonona mine does too." Leon said wrapping his arms around the small child. "Why does your heart hurt daddy?" Leonona asked looking at her father.

"Because when I saw you hurt today I thought my heart would stop beating." Leon said looking at Leonona. "I'm sorry I made you hurt?" Leonona said. Leon gently put his hand on Leonona's cheek and she leaned her head against his hand and closed her eyes. "It's not your fault squirt kids can be mean sometimes and pick on younger kids like you." Leon said hearing the phone ring. "Wait here squirt." Leon said going over to the phone and picking it up. "Hello, what no I can't. I just can't I'm needed at home at the minute. Yeah we're fine it's just I have family business to take care of." Leon said as Leonona watched him talk from her chair. Leon looked back at Leonona and smiled at his daughter then went back to talking on the phone. "Yeah, yeah I'll be in next week, bye." Leon said. Hanging up the phone Leon walked back over to Leonona took the ice pack off set it on the table and picked Leonona up and carried her back into the living room where Victoria, Nyu and D were sitting down and talking.

"Oh your back come on Leonona let's get you out of those clothes and into something more comfortable." D said taking Leonona from Leon and walking upstairs with Leonona in his arms Leon not to far behind D. "Leon maybe we shouldn't Leonona back to school for the rest of the week." D said setting Leonona down on the bed and going over to her closet pulled out a white Kimono and began to undress Leonona and then dress her in the white kimono after he had taken care of her wounds and layed her down in her bed as the small child yawned and closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

"D are you okay?" Leon asked wrapping his arms around D waist as the two parents watched their daughter sleep in a somewhat peaceful sleep. "I will be my dear Leon." D said leaning into Leon's embrace as the two just sat and watched their daughter sleep.
