Disclaimer: I make no profit from the characters of The Pet Shop of Horrors. They do not belong to me. Li however is of my own creation and does belong to me…, D…, and no one else.

Warnings: This story contains the suggestion of a Yaoi relationship.

Author's Note: Many people wanted to know why a kami needed a bodyguard. Well now, you are all going to find out. This is my second attempt at a D/Leon story, so let me know what you think.

"You're crazy." She told him and pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "What makes you think that I'll go with you?"

Leon hadn't expected this reaction from her. "It's a standard stakeout. There should be no problems, Jill."

Jill sighed and placed a hand on her hip. "You know, this is highly unprofessional."

"Are you in or out? I'm pressed for time."

Jill pouted and said, "Now tell me again why I should do this?"

"A free dinner."

"All right, but why do I have the feeling that I'm going to regret it?"

"If anyone is going to regret anything it's going to be me," Leon muttered to himself.

He still didn't understand why he was going through with it. He had told Jill about the count's guest and his suspicions about him.

"You honestly believe that he's trying to steal the count's money?"

"Why else would he be all over him like that?"

"Leon," Jill was shocked by his accusation. "I'm sure that the count has friends. You said yourself that the count has known him for a long time."

"That guy is rotten. He's up to something."

"Or maybe you're just jealous."

"Don't be ridiculous…" a muscle in his jaw twitched.

Jill shook her head and told him, "This better be some dinner."

They were parked down the street from the count's shop.

D and the mysterious Li exited the store.

As he had promised, D was dressed in the cheongsam that Leon had given him. He looked as refined and gracious as always.

Li was dressed in a traditional Asian black and ivory silk suit. His long gray hair was tied at his nape revealing his strong, masculine features.

"Is that him?" Jill asked breathlessly.

"Yeah."

"He's gorgeous."

Leon shot her an irritated glare.

"Well he is. It makes you wonder if all of the men from the count's homeland are as attractive as they are."

And what an attractive couple they made -D and his bodyguard.

Leon had the urge for a cigarette. Jill had threatened to go home if he made her new dress smell like smoke.

He watched as the two men approached a sleek black luxury car.

Leon clenched the steering wheel. Oh, this guy is a piece of work.

"A limo," Jill said. "This Li certainly is a bad individual. Let's arrest him now for being such a gentleman."

Leon ignored her sarcasm and started the car. "His bodyguard, my foot…"

"What was that?"

"Nothing."

They followed the limo at a proper distance.

A half an hour later, they were in the very posh part of town. An area frequently visited by wealthy businessmen and modern day nobles. No thug dared to sully its pristine streets.

The limo parked before a large building. Leon parked his car several cars behind it.

After a brief study of the front of the eatery, Leon and Jill exchanged an amused look.

The count and his companion had stopped at a gourmet dessert restaurant.

"This is the count's idea of dinner?" Jill smiled.

Leon groaned and told her, "I should have known. It looks like I owe you dinner."

"Oh, that's all right. Dessert will do. I'll just order the most expensive thing on the menu."

"Fantastic."

*****

There was a lot of touching going on. Mostly by Li. To Leon's consternation, D did not seem to mind it one bit. In fact, he was more interested in the chocolate tart that was before him than in Li's obvious displays of affection. He did once laugh at something Li had said, making Leon wish that he had brought along surveillance equipment. He wanted to know just what the hell they were talking about that was so damn funny.

He and Jill were seated in a corner of the eatery out of D and Li's sight. Li and the count had been seated at a choice location, a reserved table in front of a large plate glass window with a great view of the sprawling city.

A waiter brought D a fruity peach colored drink. D was delighted. He got that child like look of his that he often got whenever Leon brought him his favorite pastries.

Li apparently had ordered the bubbly peach treat for him. The count showed his appreciation by kissing Li on the cheek.

"Wow, they must really be very close friends," Jill said and took a sip of her champagne.

Leon held his fork in a death grip.

Suddenly, Li excused himself from the table and headed to the back of the restaurant.

"He's going to the men's room."

"And where are you going?" Jill asked him.

"To the men's room," he answered.

Jill grabbed the end of his dinner jacket and said, "I thought this was a stake out."

"It still is. You watch over D, make sure he doesn't choke on that dessert he's devouring."

"If you get us thrown out of here, I swear Leon, I won't do you any more favors," she warned.

"No rough housing, I promise."

When he entered the restroom, he found Li facing the door, waiting for him.

"I was wondering when you would come in here."

Leon raised a brow in surprise. "You saw me?"

"You followed us from the store," he stated.

"Okay, maybe you did."

"What do you want?" he asked.

"I want to know a few things. I want to know why you're here and I want you to tell me who you really are." He paused to take in the China man. "You're not his body guard are you?"

"No," Li said, "but I would do anything for him."

"That's sweet, but that doesn't tell me what I want to know."

Li frowned. "I also want to know a few things…detective."

He had spit out the word detective as if it was a bad taste in his mouth.

Leon really hated him.

"How close have you been to my D?"

"My D?" Leon repeated.

"You heard me…detective."

Leon scratched his head. "Let me get this straight. You and D?"

"Yes," Li smirked arrogantly.

Leon had the sudden urge to slam his fist into the dragon prince's face. "You're a god damn liar."

"Watch your tongue," Li warned him. "I have no reason to lie to you."

Leon lit a cigarette. He took a long pull and blew the smoke out into Li's face. Li breathed in deeply of the gray cloud. The plume of smoke, now white, was released through the man's nostrils. There seemed to be more than Leon remembered blowing out. Li's actions reminded Leon of something that he had seen in a children's book when he was a kid.

"Clever trick," Leon said. "You want to finish telling me who you are?"

"Very well." He looked into the mirror and smoothed a strand of hair into place. "D has certain…needs. When we were children, I was chosen to be his consort."

"You mean you two had an arranged marriage?"

"Some call it that, but yes."

Leon flushed.

"D and I have enjoyed a very long relationship together. I was opposed to his decision to leave China, but I had no say in the matter."

Good.

"But I am here now, and we can resume our relationship."

"It sure took you long enough to get here."

Li glowered at him. Leon had struck a nerve.

"Why did it take you so long to get here?"

"I had prior engagements."

"Uh, huh." I bet you did.

"I want you and your female companion to leave. D doesn't know that you are here, and I would prefer it to remain that way."

"Me and my lady friend will leave when we're good and ready, your highness."

Li's eyes narrowed. His lips tightened into a thin line. "Don't think that I don't know what you're up to, detective."

Leon ground out his cigarette in the pristine white sink and straightened his tie. "Oh, yeah?" He stuck his hands into his pants pockets, giving him the go ahead to take the first shot. "Then let the games begin."

Li gave a low growl and clenched his fists. He walked past Leon and muttered under his breath, "You disgusting American mortal."

Leon grinned. So, Li didn't want to have fisticuffs. Fine with him. He didn't want to stain his suit either, especially since it was a rental.

Li's revelation about his and D's past lingered like a bad hangover.

A consort. They're practically married. Shit.

What right did he have to interfere in their relationship? They were legally joined together. Li had every right to be with him.

But D had left him, years ago, and that meant that the count had not quite enjoyed his former life. He had even lied to Leon about Li's association to him.

Li was obviously trying to talk D into going back to China with him. But Leon knew something that the dragon prince didn't know, and that was that D wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon. At least not while Leon was still alive and breathing.

Fisticuffs…*snicker* I love that word so much I had to put it in there. The story is all coming together now. In the third chapter, there will be some romantic encounters. Will it be between Leon and D or D and Li? *When will these confounded rhymes stop tormenting me?* Aaahh! Please leave a review! ^ _^
