Author's Note: Ahem…I know that I promised some action in this one, but things didn't turn out that way. I assure you, my loyal readers that there will be plenty of action in the following chapter. Leon ate his dessert without tasting it. He was too busy watching the dragon prince and his deceitful consort. He ignored Jill's questions about what went on in the men's room. Some things were better left unknown. He wondered if that was the reason why D had lied to him in the first place.
Li continued to ply the count with sugary treats. Order after order of desserts arrived at the table. Leon was getting a stomach ache just looking at all the serving dishes. If he didn't know any better, he would think that Li was trying to get into D's pants. Instead of getting the count drunk, he was wooing him with sweets.
"He's very attentive," Jill said.
"If you like that sort of thing," Leon replied.
Jill smiled. "Finish your dessert, and stop looking so gloomy. We're undercover, remember?"
Leon took her advice and took his gaze off the count and his consort for a few minutes. After a while, he finally decided to quit their stakeout, telling himself that what he was doing was madness.
Nevertheless, he made sure that D saw him before he and Jill took their leave. He thought that it would be fun to make Li angry.
It worked out better than he expected, perhaps too well.
The count invited them over to his table. D introduced Jill to Li. Li gave Jill a pleasant greeting and pretended that Leon was not there.
Jill complimented the count on his new cheongsam. D informed her that Leon had given it to him as a gift.
"Really?" Jill was shocked.
Li looked positively pissed, another plus in Leon's book.
"Well, we must be going," Leon said, determined to leave the restaurant knowing that he had beat Li for one night, not with his fists, but with his gift.
"You're leaving?" D sounded disheartened.
It was another blow to Li's ego. The China man showed no facial reaction to D's inquiry, but Leon could feel the animosity coming from him. It was almost like a wave of angry heat.
Jill made the first step for them to take their leave. Leon smirked as he escorted her from the restaurant.
"I think that that went rather well, don't you?" Jill asked, breathing in the crisp night air.
"Yeah," Leon agreed. "Everything worked out perfectly."

The next day, Leon could barely focus on his work. He was preoccupied by thoughts of D. He wondered if the count and his consort had had an eventful night together.
It bothered him to think of them in each other's arms.
He wanted D for himself, the count's marriage to Li be damned.
He had to pick up a special package on his way to D's this afternoon.
The parcel would leave a dent in his wallet. He would have to survive on canned soup and cold pizza for months, but it was worth it just to see the look on D's face...
He smiled wickedly.
…and Li's too.
*****
Carrying the special package under his arm, he entered the store. The bell tinkled its customary greeting.
Leon froze as he saw Li and D standing behind the counter.
Leon's gaze looked from one to the other.
D's face bloomed red. His lips looked swollen. Li's smug mouth also seemed to be suffering from the same malady.
The two had obviously been kissing, and god knows what else.
"Looks like I arrived here just in time."
"Detective…" D began.
"What are you doing here?" Li asked.
"Visiting, like I always do." Leon gave him a surly look.
D noticed the package in his hand and instantly changed the subject, "I see that you have brought me something."
"Again?" Li muttered.
Leon set the package down before D and smirked at the tall China man hovering over the count's shoulders.
D was wearing an emerald green cheongsam with satin yellow sleeves. The seams at the shoulders were embroidered with thick red cord. The designs on the sleeves were of white water lilies. Leon thought that the colorful cheongsam made him look very young. It was possible that the color in his cheeks had given him his youthful appearance. His eyes narrowed in irritation. That meant that Li's kisses had caused his pretty glow.
Where the hell is Q-Chan when you need him?
The little fur ball had been absent since Li's appearance. Leon meant to ask D about that, but the count had started opening his present, and Leon prepared himself for his reaction.
D folded back the fragile paper that lined the box and gasped. His fingers shook as he pulled the soft custom-made fabric free from the box.
Leon had given him another cheongsam.
The cheongsam was violet colored. The collar and sleeves were white. Embroidery of fancy white patterns adorned the chest area. The frog closures were violet as well, and were barely discernible from the cheongsam itself.
The matching silk trousers came with a lengthy white sash, to be worn beneath the cheongsam.
Leon had designed it himself, drawing a rough sketch of the garment on a piece of paper and handing it to a tailor. He had come up with the idea while he was having one of his daydreams of D. It had been an innocent dream, at first, but then like so many others of late, it had turned into something more. He had pictured D on a bed of violet silk, writhing beneath him. The image had been so intense that it had left him painfully hard.
"Oh, Leon…"
D was speechless. His eyes wavered with emotion.
Leon smiled.
Li frowned.
Yeah, lose your cool dragon prince. Show D what you really think about me.
"Leon, you shouldn't have," the count gave him a warm smile.
"Yes," Li said stonily. "You really shouldn't have."
"Did you call in another favor?" D asked, ignoring Li's obvious irritation.
"Something like that," Leon answered and watched D's slender fingers run over the elegant pattern. Flashes of his dream haunted him -D wrapped up in silk, his lips parted to receive Leon's kiss, his eyes darkened by lust, and Leon hovering over him, waiting to be inside him where he knew that he belonged...
Shit, if he remained there any longer he'd jump D, regardless of Li's overbearing presence. He was already uncomfortable from the hard on I his pants. Thankfully, Li hadn't noticed the bulge or they would have been exchanging blows in a heartbeat.
"Isn't Leon's gift lovely, Li?" D asked his scowling companion.
Li growled an indistinct reply.
"This calls for some tea," Leon suggested taking delight in making Li envious.
"Yes," D said cheerfully. "Please have a seat, Leon."
Ah, there is that look. He glanced at Li's face, and that one too.

Much later, Leon left the count's shop.
He stood on the sidewalk and breathed a sigh of satisfaction. D had enjoyed his gift. He had told Leon that he would wear it only on special occasions. That had really flustered Li, but the dragon prince hadn't made any comments.
The door opened. Li stepped out, looking as regal as ever n the fading afternoon light.
"No more gifts detective," he bluntly told him.
"Why not?"
"You do not know what you are doing. It is very offensive to us that you are giving him gifts."
"Offensive to us or offensive to you?"
Li tilted his head, and studied Leon from a different angle. "Your actions mean more than you realize, detective. Our traditions are not the same. If you keep coming between me and my companion, I shall be forced to resort to more aggressive means."
"Ah," Leon raised a brow. "Well thanks for warning me. I'll be sure to watch my back the next time that I visit D."
He seemed outraged. "You mock me."
"No. I'm just telling you that your presence here won't stop me from seeing D."
Li laughed at his audacity. "What can you possibly give him? You are not even of his caste. Give up detective and find one of your own kind to court."
Leon didn't respond.
Li dismissed him from his thoughts and re-entered the shop.
Yeah, Leon thought. You're a noble, but that still doesn't make you any better than me.

Why, oh why, did I make this story so soap opera-ish! I hate soap operas! Aaah!*screams tearing out fistfuls of hair* Oh, well…at least I managed to sneak in Leon's daydream about D. Wasn't that just sexy? *I can't believe I said sexy! That's something my English cousin would say.* Anyway, if you leave a review, I may send you an excerpt from my next chapter or current project. I've been doing that lately, giving people sneak previews.*bribe, bribe* So don't be a stranger! ^_^! *insert evil laugh here, preferably Invader Zim style*
