Li watched his consort put the mortal's love gift away and growled. How dare the detective bring his beloved such an intimate gift? He had half a mind to burn it up. It was too personal an endowment. It would touch his skin, and that kind of sentiment only meant one thing. Leon Orcot wanted the count for himself.

If Li was not careful, he would lose D, and to a mortal no less.

He was not going to let that happen. He was the count's one and only companion, destined at birth to be with him for all of eternity.

He would sooner die than let Leon have him.

D finished putting away his gift and was about to leave his chambers when he came face to face with a growling red dragon.

The creature sized him up, licked its jaws. Its large, leathery wings unfurled, blocking D's path. Spirals of thick white clouds covered the floorboards beneath its feet.

D took a step back. The dragon shot forward towards him.

He gasped as it entwined itself around his waist and arm.

He felt himself being lifted from the floor.

"Do you remember this, D?"

Li's voice reverberated in his ear like a whisper.

"Li. What are you doing?"

The dragon's hold on him tightened.

D gasped as he felt hands on his thighs. "Li…"

"You do remember."

The hands slid up his thighs in a caress, then reversed direction. They stopped at D's knees and pushed them apart.

"How could you have left this, D? How could you have left us?"

Li was standing between D's legs, his hard arousal pressed intimately against him.

Li leaned over him. His curtain of gray hair fell on either side of D. Amethyst eyes; hazy with lust looked down at him.

"It has been too long, beloved."

Li kissed him. D let him.

"I've missed you," Li went on. "You have no idea how hard it was to go on without you."

"But you did," D told him. "An appetite like yours can't be left to idle."

"This is true," Li admitted. "There were others, but they meant nothing to me, beloved."

"Why do you insist on making this harder than it has to be?" D muttered.

"He can give you nothing. He is only a mortal. He has little time left in this realm. Choose me, beloved. Say that you love me. Say that you want me here with you forever," Li whispered seductively, all the while enticing him with soft kisses along his throat and jaw.

D's face was flushed with heat. His multi colored eyes were hazy with passion. The combination of the dragon scales moving along his flesh and Li's hypnotic voice worked well to arouse him.

Li's soft hair brushed his face. His nipples hardened.

"We are destined to be together, my love. The kami and his dragon prince, his concubine warrior."

"Li…"

"Yes, love," he encouraged him.

"Li…"

The prince dipped his head and kissed the count's aristocratic nose.

"L-Leon…"

The prince froze as he heard the detective's name.

A rage like no other filled him.

"Leon?" his voice was cold and deep. His spirit animal uncoiled itself from D's body and carefully set the count down on the carpet. The creature hissed and climbed on to Li's shoulders, then melded into his skin returning to a mere tattoo.

D lay still on the floor. He was naked and a bit chilly, but he looked beyond that. They were little discomforts compared to what he knew Li must have been feeling.

"He is a mortal! How could you choose him over me?" he sounded hurt.

"You are taking this far too seriously, Li."

"Why do you want to disgrace me?"

D sat up and reached for his torn cheongsam. He donned the ruined silk and gracefully got to his feet.

"You are mine, and no mortal will take my place!" Li's eyes including the one on the tattoo flashed red.

"You will not harm him," D commanded. "If you do, I will not hesitate to kill you."

Li gasped at D's threat. He was thinking that his consort had lost his mind.

Leon Orcot had caused this change in his lover. Leon Orcot was responsible for everything!

Li growled out his frustration. The dragon tattoo rippled on his chest.

He would not stand for this! The American had come between them for the last time!

D was arranging some orchids in a vase when Leon arrived. The blonde haired detective glowered as he looked around the shop, stimulating D's curiosity.

"What are you looking for?"

"The dragon prince," Leon informed him. "He's not here is he?"

"Why do you ask?" D turned away from the bright red and peach colored flowers and faced him.

"He's been following me all day. Every case that I've been on, there he is watching me -across the street, in the park, down town. What the hell does he want from me?"

"Detective…"

"I know, I know, language." He placed his hands on his hips and studied D.

He was wearing a plain white satin cheongsam with light blue embroidered flowers. He looked pure and innocent…sweet. Leon wanted to touch him and make that look of innocence disappear if only for a moment.

"He has done nothing else but watched you?" D asked, feeling a sense of dread.

"Yeah," Leon said. "I figured he wanted to talk or something." Or rumble, he thought. It made more sense, any way. They obviously could not stand each other's guts.

"Then he is stalking you." D said.

"I figured that part out. Is this some weird Chinese tradition?"

D frowned. "He is only trying to make you insecure. I told him not to. He never listens."

"If he thinks that he can scare me of by staring at me, he has another think coming."

"This is nothing to take lightly, detective." D bent the stem of an orchid. "Li is not happy here."

"Then he should leave. It'll make him and me both happier."

D hid his gaze, letting his hair shield his face. "Li has asked me to go with him."

There was silence. It was only broken by the sound of the orchids as D continued to bend their stems.

Suddenly, D felt Leon's arms around him, strong and hard. The detective molded him to his tall frame.

"Don't go, D."

"Leon…"

"Does he mean that much to you? Tell me the truth. If you want to go with him…I'll let you go." Over my dead body.

D smiled and touched his collar. There was a loose thread there. He plucked it and smoothed his fingers over Leon's broad shoulder.

"If I go, detective, will you miss me?"

Leon frowned. "What kind of a question is that?"

D just stared at him.

He shrugged, gave a sigh, and mumbled, "Who else is going to keep me from smoking more than three packs a day?"

D raised an elegant dark brow. "Is that all I am to you, your personal nag?"

Leon was surprised by his classification of himself. "You're not a nag…"

He brushed his knuckles over D's soft cheek. "It's going to be so strange when you're gone."

D blushed and caught his hand. "I don't want to go."

Leon heard the emotion in his voice. He cupped D's chin in his hand and lowered his head. "Then damn it, don't."

A small cry of surprise escaped D's throat as Leon claimed his mouth.

He moved his hands up the sleeves of D's cheongsam and caressed the soft skin hidden beneath it.

"Leon…" the count's arms went around him.

"That's right," he told him, and continued exploring his mouth.

It was everything that he had dreamt of, and more. The count felt as if he was made to fit within his embrace.

"Oh god, D…" he frantically searched for more of the count's silken flesh.

D kissed his neck and tugged on his earlobe with his teeth. The sexual tension between them was intense.

"If you leave, I'll go crazy. Do you want me to go crazy?"

"No," the count managed to answer briefly between the detective's kisses.

Leon widened his stance and pulled D closer, letting his lower half press snugly against him.

D felt his excitement.

"God, I want you…"

"Leon, I -"

D heard the tingle of the bell above the door and froze as Li walked in.

D separated himself from Leon, his face hot with embarrassment. Leon's hands fell free of his sleeves.

Li's amethyst eyes bored into them.

He had seen their all too friendly embrace, and by the look of him, he was none too pleased about it.
