Author's Note: This is NOT a Misty/Ash fic. None of mine are or probably will be. If you are so closed-minded that you can't envision any other couple, don't read it. If you are open to other pairings, read on. Be warned, If I get any reviews telling me my pairings are all wrong I will have the reviewer blocked if they are signed. If anonymous, the review will be deleted.

Disclaimer: We don't really need to go through this, again, do we? (Talks to lawyer.) Okay, I do. None of these characters are mine. I own nothing, including the computer.

Misty peered out over expansive forest surrounding her. Brock stood to one side. On the other was James. She knew what this meant. Soon she would have to decide where her loyalties were. One she had fallen for and had her attentions ignored. The other was a boy she had seen as an enemy until a few months ago when he had given her a little unexpected help (A/N: See Intimate Hormones for that story). <I love James, but if I choose him Ash and Brock will turn their backs on me. What do I do?>

"Misty!"

Huh? She opened her eyes and looked around. She was in her room at the motel she, Ash and Brock had decided to stay in that night. Except now the sun was rather high in the sky and she was still in her nightclothes. "I'm up! I'm up!" She hurriedly found her clothes and got dressed. As she ran out of the room she knocked over Ash who was standing by the door to make sure Misty really was up. "Morning, Ash!" she called as she passed him.

"Ugh. Morning, I think" he answered, picking himself up off the floor.

As Misty walked to the snack machine she saw Brock hanging on yet another girl. Strangely though, she found it didn't bother her this time. "Morning, Brock."

"Morning, Misty. Now back to us," he began to the girl beside him. < That was really weird. Misty always pulls me away from the girls I talk to. I wonder what's up?>

"Jessie, I'm hungry!" James wailed.

"Oh, shut up! We have to get money before we can eat, Go sell bottle caps."

"(Gasp!) NO! I only have four left! Besides this doesn't look like the sort of town where people collect bottle caps." James said, observantly.

"James? People collect bottle caps EVERYWHERE!!!"

"EEEK! You can't make me!"

"Wanna bet?"

"I'm going for a walk, guys!" Misty called. She decided that a stroll through the town and maybe a little of the woods around it would be a good idea. As she passed Main Street, she saw a man selling bottle caps. It was James! She was very excited to see him but then she stopped. Why was he selling his bottle caps? He loved them more than he did anything else in the world. He must need money. She didn't want him to get heartbroken, but she couldn't risk Ash or Brock seeing her with James. She asked a woman nearby if she would buy the bottle caps for her if Misty gave the woman the money. She agreed. Misty, now in possession of James' bottle caps went back to the motel.

"Jessie, I got $50 for my bottle caps." James mumbled, dejectedly.

"$50?!? See? That wasn't so bad, was it? Now we can go get food."

"Whatever, I'm going for a walk."

"What's with the bottle caps misty?" asked Ash with his usual clueless self.

"I-uh aren't they pretty?" Misty asked blushing.

Ash looked at them with a puzzled face, "Why would you want to collect bottle caps? Is it some girl thing?"

"Uh, yeah. Lets get going. It's still a long way to the next gym."

"Hey, Misty, isn't that James?" asked Brock.

"Yeah." She breathed. She stepped towards James. Her heart was racing. The dream! This was it then.

"Misty, where are you going?" asked Ash.

She stopped. "I don't know."

"Misty!" James called and waved. "I love you!"

"Misty, what's going on? Are you and James together?" Brock demanded.

"Hold on a minute! Who are you to demand answers from me? I don't have to explain anything!" She answered haughtily.

"Misty, are you leaving with James?" asked Ash, still a bit confused.

Misty stood at the gate of destiny, trying to choose her path.

Okay, that's it for now. If you want to see how it ends, review. Even cheap reviews. Just tell me what you think. If I get at least 6 reviews I'll post the sequel.
