Chapter 10
“Stop it you two.” Red said, tiring of the argument. Lance immediately gave him a chastened look and bowed his head. “I'm sorry, Master.”
Crystal put her hands on her hips.
“You know, I caught you by accident. You do not have to stay with me.” Red enunciated clearly. “Why are you here anyways, Crystal?"
“Because I love you, Red!”
Red rolled his eyes. He had really had enough of screaming fangirls. A strained love relationship was not something he enjoyed either. “Fine.” With one twist of his fingers, he broke the capture lock on the poke ball.
Crystal gave a short little scream but as Lance took the opportunity to hit her with a Thunderwave, Red made a wish and erased her memories, along with Oak's recorded evidence and the man's mind again.
He should feel guilty, but he didn't.
He had to protect Lance at all costs after all…
Lance knew that Red's feelings had shifted into a more possessive mode, but in all honesty it meant nothing to him.
Being protected and treasured was a warm feeling, the programming reminded him in a sly whisper.
It made perfect sense. To be valued meant you had to have worth, and what better worth than a rare pokémon?
Yes, some things were quite simple after all…
It did not matter if all others would forget the story. They could live for eternity with only a wish at their fingertips…
He had Red; and Red was enough for him.
He only hoped Red felt the same way.
He was tired. He'd been Champion for almost six years, and now, it didn't really matter. He ought to pass the title onto someone else…
Yes he was ready to fade into the mists of obscurity. He had no more fame to content himself with, but did it matter?
He wanted peace and quiet and a life without adventure - well, maybe just a little adventure, nothing like saving a region. Was that too much to ask for?
It was unfair to place so much on the shoulders of the pokedex holders.
Someday, perhaps people would remember their story, but he highly doubted it. The threads had already been spun and theirs were dyed with walnut.
How tragic, but at least it meant a new beginning.
Someday, in the future, will you remember me?
I will never forget you.
I hope I will never forget you either.
I love you.
I know.
Master… we will always be together if you wish it so.
Then… I wish…

Author's Notes: Although Red is an adventurer I figured he might eventually come to dislike his role as hero. What happens when he fails? Considering his reactions in the current Houen/FRLG arc, I'd say that it's possible he'll just want to be himself, and not someone whose face is plastered on billboards and gets blamed for things that are not his fault.
Why did I make Lance a genie? Let's just say that Pikachu's Megavolt and the lava wasn't good for him to stay human, so I made him a pokemon, and pokegenie is just fun to play with!
The ending sucks, you say? Yes, it is kind of inconclusive. However, this is my story so if you don't like it, write your own!
