Chapter 2: Trial and Error?
He casually adjusted the gold braid that held his cloak together, but it was all for show. After all, the media loved having eye candy to show.
He would oblige them to some extent. After that, there was something known as privacy. If that line was crossed, well…
Kairyuu and Hakuryuu and his others could deal with it.
Then, he recalled his pokemon and walked out of the stadium.
He had won, of course. Chosen do not lose easily. Plus, he was the most powerful of them.
Stupid idiots.
“Lance!”
He stopped, eyes lighting on Lorelei. “Yes?”
“Some bastard used Explosion on my Dewgong after I had won the match legally.” Lorelei spat.
“Healing? Just a second then.” He followed her down the hall and quickly applied his power, channeling energy into the seal and watching as it was restored.
“That should do it.”
“Thanks for the help.” Lorelei said. “I would have done it myself, but…”
“Ice isn't big on healing. I understand. Do not worry about it.”
“Hai.”
Lorelei waved as Lance walked back to his room.
“And what are you doing in here?”
Candice eeped.
“Oh for goodness's sakes…” Lance said, striding over to his closet and yanking out a purple jumpsuit that had somehow wound up in there. `Put this on, for the love of God! I don't know whatever possessed you to try this stunt but I'm not interested!”
The Dragon Master sat down and picked up his Game Boy Advance, carefully keeping his eyes averted until all motion had stilled.
“Now.” Lance said, eyes never leaving the screen. “What do you want?”
“Tell me how to become a pokemon master!”
“Even if you did, who would you replace in our gym configuration?”
“Brock!” Candice said immediately. “I'm stronger than him.”
“Indeed.” Lance said dryly. “But you'd have to be a rock-type gym like his then.”
Candice scowled. “That's why I came to ask you!”
“Ask me…”
“How do I become a Master! Karen wouldn't tell!”
“That's because it's a secret revealed only when a certain amount of training is completed.”
“Huh?”
Lance resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Basically, you train your pokemon like crazy, and yourself as well, and one night you'll find the answer or answers in a dream. Happy now?”
Candice stuck out her tongue at him as she flounced out… er, well, it was a credible attempt.
“I really hate girls.” Lance muttered.
Dragonair glared.
“I didn't' mean you, or Kairyuu either. I meant those air-headed sluts who think I'm just a pretty face.”
The sound of giggling drifted out of an air vent.
“And quit hiding in there, Ash. You might break it.”
Ash squirmed out and grinned. “Well, I was, er-…”
“Jealous?”
“A little.”
“Understandable.” Lance said, as he placed a kiss on the tip of the trainer's cheek. “Well, now that she's gone…”
Ash beamed.
Ash's Umbreon and Pikachu dashed out of the room quickly, not wanting to see what might happen next.
“I think we scared them off.” Lance remarked as he pulled out a deck of cards. “So...”
“I'll beat you at Gin Rummy this time, just you wait! And if you hadn't kissed me, they would have been fine!”
“I'm sure you will.” Lance paused. “It was perfectly innocent.”
“You always cheat!” Ash looked flustered. “And I disagree! That kiss was not innocent!”
“I'm a Chosen. I don't `cheat', as such.” Lance said, shuffling the cards before handing them to Ash so he could do the same. “And it's your opinion on the latter.”
Ash sighed. “Well, you're lucky.”
“Blame my statistics class.”
“Hmm?”
“I can calculate the probability of everything I draw.” Lance said, taking the seven cards. “Let's begin.”
Ash nodded grimly, and the battle was on.
Twenty minutes later…
Ash cheered. “Yatta!”
“Well, you finally won on the third round.”
“Hai~!”
Lance put the cards away and checked his watch. “Dinner's not for a while, want to grab a snack?”
“I would, but there were fangirls surrounding the plateau last time I checked.”
“That could be a problem…” Lance nodded. “Well then. We'll do this the hard way.”
“Wha?”
Ash did not have time to reply further as Lance yanked him into the bathroom and splashed something into his hair.
“Yeek! What was that for?”
Lance put away the blue hair dye and studied Ash critically. “Not dark enough…”
“LANCE! Can't I at least pick what color my hair will be? It's my hair, you know!”
The Dragon Master laughed. “As you will.”
Ash humphed as he rinsed out his hair. It was still bluish though. Well, maybe it would be a deterrent.
He put on his lens-less purple oversized glasses and took a deep breath. * Here goes… *
Fortunately, Ash made it to the candy store and managed to buy his favorite chocolate-covered caramels and candy apples before the fangirls realized it was him and chased him all the way back to Indigo plateau.
