Disclaimer: Power Rangers Wild Force belongs to Buena Vista Entertainment and the Dark Carpathians belong to Mrs. Christine Feehan. I’m only using them, with some of my own ideas, for Fanfic Purposes on the Net only. In the event I put in an original character that you would like to use in a Fanfic, PLEASE E-mail me to let me know that and the story idea.

Rated PG-13 for possible later chapters, but the rating may change by the end of the story…If I’m in the mood to change it.

AN: Would you believe I wrote the rough draft to the prologue while I was at a Pharmacy Law Conference at my college for HIPAA? (Short hand writing for ‘Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act’…for those who want to know.)

Well…I was plotting how to start this story…and the idea of giving the back story on Ebony came to mind. Plus, I touch on a topic that is very…delicate. Child abuse is one…and the other, well…sometimes an attempt of that kind of act is just as painful as the act itself. Did a bit of research…and found out that its true.

(To answer the next question that comes to mind; I’m talking about rape…and no, nothing like THAT happened to me or anyone I know. It’s the work of my imagination…and a little research. If anyone can relate to that, I’m saying this a head of time…I’m so sorry about bringing up…any painful memories.)

Note: “*…*” means Animarium or Hunter language and *…* means talking mentally.

Innocent Love

Deep in my Soul
I know that there’s a part of me
Who is Strong and loving.
A person who can face
The world and prove that I’m a fighter,
Yet Loving and caring to all.
The kind of person my
Parents want me to become.
*
However, there are those
Who tried to keep that person
From coming out,
Keeping me in fear of the world.
They hurt me in way that affect
My mind…yet not touch my Soul.
They hope to keep my Stronger
Self locked away…forever.
*
Then one day, I meet the one man
Who looked into my eyes
And see the me that longs to be release.
He shows me that the world
Is nothing to be fearful about.
He shows me so much…and Loves me as I am.
*
I know what he is,
A person who Protects us from
The true evil in this world.
Even with the Truth in front of me,
I find myself in Love with him…
And helping him remove the
Darkness from his Soul.
At the same time, I release my True self
And stand against those
Who harmed me for so long.
*
My life is now full of joy
And Love of life…with
My one and only Lifemate.
Together, we can face the world
Without any fear in our hearts…and Souls.
*********
(AN: I don’t know why…but this is starting to
become routine to begin a DWF story with a poem.
Well…if it works, go with it.;))

Prologue

Six years ago

“Where are you?!”

Twelve year old Ebony Starr looked towards her bedroom door, which was barred by her desk, to hear her step-father.

She knew in that second that he was in a bad mood after a long day at work. She heard that tone of voice enough to know it in a instant…after her mother’s death.

‘Mom,’ she though as she looked at a picture of her Mom and Dad, ‘Why did you leave me alone in the world…with him?’ She knew that she shouldn’t blame her Mom for marrying that Frank, but at times she can’t help it.

Ebony’s real Father died before she was born; yet from her Mom’s stories of him, she knew that he was a strong and caring person. Even she looks like him with black hair with highlights of golden brown and a gentle Soul. Along with her Mom’s looks and light brown skin, Ebony has a bit of her own personality with her golden brown eyes.

After her Mom married Frank, Ebony felt that there was something wrong about him. When her Mom wasn’t around, he acts like a different person…all mean and evil. Her Mom didn’t believe her at first, but found out the truth…a little too late.

Although, the police state that her Mom killed herself, Ebony had another POV of that.

Without a second thought, she put the picture in the front pocket of her backpack. After years of being treated like trash, she was leaving.

‘He can have the house,’ she thought as she closed the pocket, ‘I have the only thing I want.’ At those words, she touched the Light Green Pendant she got when she was nine. Frank thought that the Pendant was worthless, but she knew in her heart that it was Mystical…and Magical to her.

She took a look around her room before grabbing her two favorite stuff toys and stuffed them into her pack before closing it. Then she carried it to the open window and tossed it out.

“Ebony!” she heard Frank say, “Open this door!”

As quickly as he said that, she was out of the window of the one-story house and putting on her backpack. She ran to his bike, that she adjusted for her earlier, and got on it.

She heard him breaking though the bedroom door as she rode away from the house…and from the person who hurt her so much. ‘If he thinks he’s mad now,’ she thought as she peddle faster, ‘Wait until he finds out what I did to his things…or the extra gasoline he kept.’

In short, she burned all of Frank’s things…in the fireplace he was so proud of.

Two years later

Fourteen year old Ebony was looking out the window of her new bedroom thinking about the last two years.

*********

After a time traveling, she ended up in Angel Grove Little Heaven. There she met Mildred Nieves, who’s a lawyer who helped out there, and told her about Frank. Mildred did some digging and discovered crimes he did…including killing Ebony’s Mom.

There was enough to sent Frank into the courtroom.

On the day the judge gave his verdict…of guilty, Frank went nuts…and almost attacked Ebony in the courtroom.

“I’ll get you!” he yelled at her as he was taken away by the guards, “One day, I’ll get even with you!!”

For her safety, the judge and Mildred decided to send Ebony to a foster home…in Turtle Cove.

*********

“Ebony,” a soft voice said.

Ebony looked to see her foster mother at the doorway.

Tia Reyes was looking at the teen with her light green eyes. As her dark red hair was brushed back from her pale beige skinned face, she was caring and nice to everyone, including to her new foster child.

AN: For some reason, I’ve been thinking of Hayley from PRDT as Tia….she seems the ‘motherly’ type to me. Hey, its writer’s POV.

“So…how do you like your room?” she asked as she entered the room.

“It’s big,” Ebony said as she looked at Tia, “and nice.”

“I knew you would like it,” Tia replied as she walked to sit on the window sit near Ebony, “This was my room when I was a kid and it has a great view of the Forest.”

Ebony looked at the sight of a grand Forest on the edge of town. It was untouched by man, yet so beautiful and peaceful. “What’s so special about it?” she asked as she looked back at Tia.

“Ever heard of the local Legend?” Tia asked.

At Ebony’s look of ‘no’ on her face, Tia added, “Some say there’s a place in the Forest where giant animals live and beings that fight against evil monsters.”

“Really?” Ebony asked.

“Really,” Tia said, “The Hunters look like normal people, yet they have the Power to destroy the orgs.”

“Have you met one…a Hunter, I mean?”

“Once when I was a kid,” was Tia’s answer, “I was at the edge of the Forest when an org came out of nowhere to grab me. Then a Hunter hit it hard enough that it let me go…after scratching my arm. I fell to the ground and saw the Hunter fight the org. It didn’t take long before the Hunter destroyed the org. Then the Hunter looked at me.”

“You must have been scared,” Ebony said.

“At first I was, but one look into his face and I calmed down. As he healed my cuts, he was so gentle and looked like an angel with his dark hair and sliver-gray eyes. He made sure I got home safe and I never told anyone about what happened that day…until today.”

“Wow,” Ebony said, “I wish I could meet one in person.”

“You never know,” Tia replied with a warm smile, “You just might see one…if you stay here with me.”

“Maybe I will,” Ebony said as she returned the smile, deciding to give Turtle Cove a chance…and start a new life.

********* ********* *********

Over two years later

Seventeen year old Ebony was coming home from school when she saw some boxes on the front pouch. ‘What’s up?’ she thought as she ran up the stairs.

*********

Once in the house, she almost ran into a young woman as she was heading out. “I’m so sorry,” Ebony said as she backed away, “I didn’t see you.”

“It’s ok, I understand,” the young woman replied with a smile, “Anyway, I’m Alyssa Enrilé and I’m renting the room here.”

“Really?” Ebony said, “You look about my age.”

“I just look younger than my age,” Alyssa replied as she noticed Ebony’s Pendant, “Love your Pendant. It looks like my Pendant…except for the color.”

She pulled on the chain to show her Pink Crystal Pendant before adding, “I got this when I turn eighteen.”

“My Mom gave me mine when I was nine,” Ebony replied, “She told me it was in my Dad’s Family for centuries.”

“Same with mine,” Alyssa said, “Maybe our Families came from the same area.”

“I hope so,” Ebony said with a warm smile.

Alyssa returns the smile and a Bond of Friendship was born between them.

“Hey you two,” Tia said as she joined them, “Looks like you’re getting along.”

“We sure are,” Alyssa and Ebony said at the same time.

Tia looked at each of them before saying, “Ebony, why don’t you help Alyssa with her things before doing your homework.”

“I can help you with that when we’re done,” Alyssa added.

“Ok,” Ebony replied as she dropped her school bag.

As the two went outside, Tia looked at them and said softly, “I believe I made the right choose of letting Alyssa stay here.”

With a smile, she headed upstairs to check the room that’s now Alyssa’s.

Six months later

Same time as the events from 1st half of ‘Dark Lion’: Chapter 7

It was a beautiful afternoon as Ebony stopped reading her book.

She was on the pouch swing for a half hour before her thoughts turn to Alyssa. It’s almost been two weeks since Alyssa moved and Ebony misses her. ‘With Rick mad at her for choosing Cole I don’t blame her,’ she thought as she closed her book, ‘but I wish she was here.’

Over the past months, her and Alyssa have become the Best of Friends and can Trust each other. Even when she found out about Cole, she wasn’t mad at Alyssa for keeping that from her…after meeting him in person.

‘I can understand why Alyssa didn’t tell me about Cole before,’ she thought, ‘He’s strong, friendly and kind hearted. I wish I could have a guy like him as my Boyfriend.’

Just then she heard a motorcycle stop in front of the house.

She looked on to see a guy get off his bike and remove his helmet. ‘Danny always have good timing,’ she thought as she saw Cole’s Best Friend walking towards the pouch.

Danny was wearing a white t-shirt under his black jean jacket, matching jeans and boots. The outfit makes him looks tough, but friendly at the same time. “Hey Ebony,” Danny said as he sat near her on the pouch swing, “What are you doing?”

“Nothing much…” she said, “Just reading…and thinking about Alyssa.”

“Don’t be sad, she misses you too,” he said, “She just wants to keep you safe from Rick. I was lucky I came when I did that day.”

“I know,” she replied, “He was really angry that she picked Cole over him. If you didn’t show up when you did, he would have…”

“Ebony,” he said when he saw that she was getting upset, “It’s ok. What matters is that I got here to save you. Plus…this isn’t the first time…something like that happen to you.”

“Yea,” she said as she looked away from him, “My step-father was like Rick…only worst. He would hit me and say things to bring me down. After my Mom died, he got worst and went as far as touching me…in a bad way…” She stopped as she felt tears going down her face at the memory of Frank touching her.

If the phone didn’t start ringing at that moment…things would have ended differently.

Then she felt a soft, gentle touch on her chin before she found herself looking into Danny’s dark brown eyes, so full of Strength…and gentleness. “Did he…?” he asked softly as he used his handkerchief to dry her eyes.

“No,” she said, “I ran away before he got the chance…to…” Before she knew it, she was crying into his jacket as he held her in a one arm hug.

Normally she would back away from a guy’s touch, but Danny’s was full of calm…that only wanted to help her. Then he started to hum a melody that reminded her of someone…she knew in her childhood.

It wasn’t long before she stopped crying.

“I’m sorry,” she said as she pulled away, “I wet your jacket…”

“It’s ok,” he replied as he gave her his handkerchief, “It doesn’t show against black. At least you feel better.”

“I guess,” she said after drying her eyes, “Beside Tia and Alyssa, I never told anyone about…that part of my life.” Even after two years of being in a support group/ self-defense program, she still can’t talk about her life with Frank…without ending it in tears.

“You think that’s going to keep me away,” Danny said, “No matter what happened to you, you’re someone I’m honor to have in my life.”

Hearing him say those words made Ebony see for herself a side of her…she didn’t know of. She looked into his eyes and saw herself as a Strong person full of Love in her Soul. “Thank you,” she said with a smile.

He returned the smile before saying, “Now that I got a smile, I’m off…but I’ll see you again.”

With a glow in her eyes, she said, “I would Love that.”

********* ********* ********* *********

Present day

Ebony was enjoying a beautiful day of shopping with Taylor and Alyssa at the Turtle Cove shopping center.

At first, Ebony wasn’t sure that Taylor and she would get along. However, the two got along the second they met. Now, Ebony and Taylor are the best of Friends…as if they knew each other forever.

“I just can’t wait to try on my new outfits,” Ebony said as the three sat down on a bench, “especially the ones you picked Taylor.”

“I knew purple was your color,” Taylor replied with a smile, “You’re the type of person who can pull off wearing the color.”

Ebony returned the smile, happy that she’s being herself.

As Taylor and Alyssa were talking, Ebony thought about how much she changed since she became Friends with Alyssa. Now she’s getting to know Alyssa’s Friends and believes that Danny might ask her out on a date.

‘I can’t believe this is happening to me,’ she thought as she fingered her Crystal Pendant, ‘I only hope nothing will spoil it.’

Just then, she saw someone in the crowd…she thought she would never see again. She quickly got to her feet and bumped into Taylor.

“What Is It?” Taylor asked as she and Alyssa got to their feet.

Ebony was still looking into the crowd, but the person she saw was gone. “I though I saw…him,” she said in a low tone, “Now...I’m not so sure.”

‘Please, you know you saw him,’ she thought to herself as she took another look around, ‘Even after four years of prison life, you know it’s him. Now he’s going to live up to his promise of destroying you.’

Alyssa gave Taylor a look before saying, “Listen, why don’t we drop the bags at your house before we heard for the party…and the guys.”

The idea of seeing Danny cheered Ebony up as the three headed for the car.

‘Even if he got out, it doesn’t matter. Mildred made sure that he can’t get me back…since she helped revoke his parental right to me. Plus, I’m with Friends who will help when I need it. For once in my life, I know everything will be ok,’ Ebony thought as she followed her Friends.

********* *********

As the SUV passed a group of trees, a man watched the car go by…with the one person he wants to get. “After three years, you’re within my reach,” he said in an undertone, “Soon my dear Ebony…soon you’ll pay for taking everything from me. When we meet face to face, I’ll make sure to take everything from you…and make your life a living hell.”

With one last look at the disappearing SUV, he blended into the trees…to plan his next move.
