Chapter 5 - Curiousity kills the cat!
Amanda covered her mouth with a slim hand to hide her weary yawn. She was standing just outside the gate of Seigaku Junior High, waiting patiently for her sister, Angela, to come out. For some odd reason, she felt exceptionally tired that day. The fact that she had been pestered repeatedly by the snobby girls from her class, who belonged to the fan club of 'Atobe' throughout the day was a just added another weight on her weariness. Apparently, Atobe's fan club must have caught wind of her scene with Atobe, and hence were all stalking her predatorily, ever since she arrived at school that morning.
In fact, she suspected that she might have been followed. After all, she had been feeling exceptionally uncomfortable since she had stepped out of the school boundaries. For some reason, despite the absence of footsteps behind her, she still felt piercing eyes eyeing her every move.
Shaking her head to rid her mind of such thoughts, she forces herself to focus on the surrounding areas. Her eyes scanned the school compound, searching for signs of her approaching sister. Upon spotting Angela's small, petite figure heading her way, she slapped a bright cheery smile on her face.
"So how's your day?" Amanda asked before Angela could inquire about her day.
She was not inclined to let Angela worry about her well being at school, and hence was determined to keep the information of her being followed a secret. Not wanting to let Angela see through her fake cheerfulness, she diverted her gaze to looking anywhere but at her sister. She knew that Angela would probably realize that something was wrong if she were to break eye contact abruptly.
There was a slight pause on Angela's part, while the latter appeared to be thinking for some time before answering hesitantly.
"It's fine..." Angela answered lightheartedly, faking a sudden interest in her shoes.
Noticing her sister's strange behavior, Amanda risked a glance over at Angela swiftly but discreetly. A mischievous smile spread over her lips as she took in her sister's dreamy eyes and flushing look. Throwing caution to the wind as curiosity won against log in her mind, she smirked lazily and asked.
"Did anything interesting happen to you today?"
"Eh?" Angela blinked. A blush spread over her face as memory of Tezuka speaking to her for the first time came rushing back to her. Her mouth opened and closed in speechless confusion. Her face grew warmer with each passing second, till finally, she could bear it no longer and blurted out.
"Amanda! Why is it that you are always so interested in finding out about my day?" Angela tried to glare at Amanda, but failed miserably.
A bubble of giggles threatened to erupt from Amanda's throat as she watched the series of emotions that displayed over her sister's face. Her eyes danced with amusement at her sister's clearly embarrassed reaction, suddenly replaced by the mock- glare, only served to contribute further to her humour. Finally, she could hold it no longer and burst out into heaps of laughter.
"Well... that's because, your facial expression is always so amusing whenever you're being teased." Amanda replied cheekily as soon as she regained control of her laughter. Darting another glance in her sister's direction, she continued on. "Judging from your reaction from earlier, it does seems like something did happen ... am I right?"
Angela's eyes widen at Amanda's words, warning bells rang in her mind. "Amanda!" she exclaimed, a warning tone in her voice.
Sensing Angela's upcoming temper, Amanda immediately prevented herself from saying asking that would provoke her sister further. However, that did not mean that Amanda had given up on prying into Angela's private affairs. Despite her bubbling curiosity, she forced herself to quiet down for she didn't want to test her sister's patience. It had always been a common knowledge that those who are usually quiet are usually the scariest person to cross once they were being provoked.
Being Angela's twin, Amanda had no wish to test the theory out. Hence, she decided to give Angela time to cool off before she started firing questions at her sister once again.
