Chapter 1
"I'm home!" Oishi announced happily as he entered his house.
"A-ra? Welcome back!" Oishi's mother greeted him back in response. Upon sighting the bright cheerful smile on her son's face, she couldn't help but ask. "Shuichiro, did anything good happen today?"
Oishi blinked, not understanding his mother's question. "Eh?"
He must have looked pretty shocked, as his mother said. "Oh, you were smiling so happily... so I thought something good must have happened today. After all, you haven't been smiling since ..." His mother stopped talking suddenly, not wanting to upset him.
Oishi couldn't help but smile at his mother antics. "Since my break up with Eiji?" he supplied helpfully.
His mother looked up at him strangely, "Shuichiro?" she asked, concern lurking in the depth of her eyes.
"Mom, it's fine. You can talk about Eiji in front of me. I'm no longer upset by our break-up." Oishi assured his mother, before he headed upstairs to his room.
Oishi's mother stared after Oishi's departing figure for a moment, before shrugging and returning to her task of preparing dinner. She had no idea what changed her son, but she was thankful for the change. Somehow, her son seems happier than before and she hoped that it would continue to keep her son happy.
Upstairs, Oishi was in the process of doing his homework when his cellphone chimed, signalling a new message had just been received. Smiling at the sight of Shishido's number, he couldn't help the happiness he felt at the memories of their lunch meeting came flooding back to him.
During their lunch meeting, they had a wonderful time together. Despite the obvious avoidance of the subject of Eiji and Momo's relationship, the both of them spent their time asking general questions of each other's lives. At the end of the lunch , they'd exchanged contact numbers and Shishido even walked him to the bus stop.
Oishi's face warmed at the memory of Shishido walking him to the bus stop. It was strange to him as it was usually he who walked his date home. Yet, it touched him as well.
After all, when he was going out with Eiji; it was always him who showered Eiji with little gestures of appreciation, affection and consideration. At the thought of Eiji, Oishi couldn't help but sigh wistfully. As if sensing his thoughts, his cellphone rang; startling him out of his reverie.
Oishi answered it on the third ring, all the while wondering why Shishido was constantly checking on him.
"Hello?" he said.
"What have you been doing?" Shishido asked from the other end.
Oishi frowned at the phone for a while, wondering why Shishido was asking him something like that. However, he answered. "Nothing, just thinking about things."
His frown deepened when he thought he heard a muffled curse from the other end. He was about to say something else in return, when Shishido's muffled statement caught his attention. Curiousity getting the better of him, Oishi couldn't help but ask. "I beg your pardon, what did you just say?"
"Atobe was right, you think too much." Shishido repeated, not caring if Oishi understood his words.
Now Oishi was absolutely bewildered, he had no idea why Atobe would claim that he thought too much. He was about to get clarification on the matter, when Shishido asked. "Have you been thinking about your ex-boyfriend again?"
When Oishi made no response, Shishido continued on. "I'm not saying you can't think of him, after all, it's your life not mine. I can't control what your mind wants to think about, but bear it in mind that it's over. You'll have to move on, not constantly turn back."
Shishido then stopped talking, realizing that he'd been babbling. "Sorry, I've been babbling. I shouldn't interfere. It's your life, not mine."
Oishi sighed. "Never mind, you're right. I'm thinking too much." In a lighter tone, he added. "How would you like it if we meet up some other time for another meal or if you want, we could watch a movie instead?"
For a while, Shishido didn't respond. Just when Oishi thought Shishido wasn't going to respond, he heard Shishido's voice from the other end. "Sure, I'd like that."
Oishi smiled at Shishido's response, and was about to say more when he heard his mother calling him for dinner. Covering the mouthpiece with his hand, he answered his mother's call before turning his attention back to the phone.
"I need to go now, my mum's calling me for dinner. I'll talk to you another time." Oishi told Shishido apologetically.
"Sure, my parents are calling me too." Shishido replied lightly.
Cheerfully humming to himself, Oishi hung up and headed downstairs to join his parents for dinner.
